Eevee even used Fairy Wind.

After that, we met the Eevee of a friend who lives in Alola.

She's Lana.

There's one more. The Eevee path.

Eevee could always just stay Eevee.

So then, there are nine paths available for Eevee.

Lana taught me something back then about all of Eevee's possibilities.

Those are all the evolutions you can choose from.

Completely. The thing is, it can't choose.

I don't know what to do.

Why do you think Pokémon evolve the way they do?

Humans change just a little bit every year as they grow,

which means they evolve a little at a time, right?

But when a Pokémon evolves, it's a very different thing.

They wanna get stronger.

That's true.

I'm sure there are many Pokémon out there who evolve for just that reason.

[Chloe] The more I think of Evolution,

the more confused I get as to whether Eevee wants to evolve

or just stay as it is.

I can't figure it out.

-[Cerise] That's just wonderful. -Huh?

That means you and Eevee are truly spending quality time together.

You're wondering why Pokémon evolve the way they do.

We Pokémon researchers call that an eternal question.

One with many, many answers.

It has many answers?

Here's what it boils down to.

You could say there are as many reasons to evolve as there are Pokémon.

As for humans,

each and every one of us is completely unique.

Only one of each person exists and it's just the way it is.

That's only making me even more confused.

The swirl on its body is its internal organs

seen through its skin.

The swirl can look different depending on where a Poliwag lives.

Poliwhirl can live on land or in the water.

Its skin always feels slippery.

Staring at the swirl on its belly can result in drowsiness.

You see, Chloe, Mr. Grover takes good care of this forest.

He was always helping me out back when I was a young child.

When you were a young child?

And he's still helping me with my research now, too.

[laughs]

Truth is, I'm really not doing all that much.

There weren't nearly as many as there are now.

But even so, back then, when I was a young child,

it was such a magical place.

That's Bellsprout.

It's the Flower Pokémon. A Grass and Poison type.

They like hot areas with high humidity.

And when they extend their vines to grab their food,

they're incredibly quick.

-Isn't that just amazing? -Yeah, you bet it is.

And not just Pokémon.

The trees and grasses, you and me.

Everything's amazing.

Wait. I'm amazing?

Sure. The act of being alive is amazing.

[Young Cerise] Really?

So even Dad experienced times like that, huh?

Well, I was very little.

About Parker's age.

And this Pokémon Professor started out as that little tyke.

Time flies much faster than we can imagine.

Come to think of it.

There was the time when little Cerise rescued a Clefairy.

Wow. I'd love to hear all about it.

and they might have an evolution ceremony.

if you see Clefairy dance, you'll find true happiness.

This is a very important ceremony for them.

You know what, I think I have a better understanding

about what you were saying before

that there are as many reasons as there are Pokémon.

And how each one is completely unique.

Were you happy to have seen that Clefairy again?

It goes way beyond being happy.

I experienced what I call a miracle and I want even more

for people and Pokémon to be closer.

I'd like to help create a world where we can all get along.

And that's the reason why I'll keep researching.

This just renewed my resolve.
