02x14 - A Close Shave

Duck puffed sadly into Edward's station.

“It's not fair. Diesel has been telling lies

“and all the engines think I'm horrid.”

Edward smiled.
"I know you aren't. Wait and see.

“Help me with these trucks."

Duck felt happier
and set to work at once.

(Whistles)

The trucks were heavy and noisy.

The engines pushed
and pulled all afternoon.

They reached the hilltop.
“Goodbye,” whistled Duck

and rolled over to the other line.

Duck loved coasting down the hill.

Suddenly, a guard's warning whistle.

“Hurrah,” laughed the trucks.
“We've broken away.

“Throw him off the rails!"

“Hurry, Duck," said the driver.

The trucks were catching up. "Faster."

The driver gained control.
“We'll do it. Glory, look at that!"

James was just pulling out.
There could be a crash.

“It's up to you now, Duck.”

Duck put his weight against the trucks.

“It's too late.” Duck shut his eyes.

He veered into a siding,
where a barber was shaving a customer.

The trucks had knocked the guard
off his van and left him behind.

But the trucks were pleased
with themselves.

(Panting) “Beg pardon,” said Duck.
“Excuse me."

“No, I won't,” said the barber.
“I'll teach you.”

He lathered Duck's face. Poor Duck.

Thomas was helping
when the Fat Controller arrived.

“I do not like engines coming through
the walls."

“I appreciate your feelings,

“but this engine prevented an accident.

“It was a very close...shave."

The barber said, "Excuse me."

He washed Duck's face. "I'm sorry.
"I didn't know you were so brave."

"I didn't know either."

“You were brave,”
said the Fat Controller. "I'm proud.”

The Fat Controller watched the rescue.

Then he had news. "When you are
mended, you are coming home."

“Home? Do you mean the yard?”
“Of course."

“They don't like me. They like Diesel.”

“I sent Diesel packing.”

-"The engines want you back.”
- (Whistling)

A few days later,
there was a rousing welcome

for Duck the Great Western engine.
