02x19 - Daisy

Percy and Toby were worried.
Thomas's accident caused trouble

and the Fat Controller
had important news.

“Here is Daisy, the diesel railcar,

“who will help
while Thomas is indisposed."

“Will she go
when Thomas comes back, sir?"

“That depends,” he said.

“However long she stays
I hope you will make her welcome.”

“Yes, we'll try, sir."

"Good. Show her the shed.

"She will want to rest.”

Daisy was hard to please.
She shuddered.

“This is very smelly. I'm highly sprung
and it is bad for my swerves.”

Next they tried the carriage shed.

“This is better,
but what is that rubbish?"

It was Annie, Clarabel and Henrietta,
who were offended.

“We won't stay to be insulted."

Percy and Toby spent the night
soothing their hurt feelings.

The engines woke exhausted.
Daisy felt bright and cheerful.

“Ooh, ooh" she tooted,

as she came out of the yard
to the station.

“Look at me," she purred.

“I'm the latest diesel, up to date.

“You won't want
Annie and Clarabel now."

The passengers waited for her to start,
but she didn't.

A milk van was being coupled to her
and she was indignant.

“Do they expect me to pull that?"

“Surely you can pull one van."

“I won't. Percy can do it.
He loves messing about with trucks.”

She began to shudder violently.

“Nonsense. Come on. Back down.”
Daisy lurched backwards.

She was so cross she blew a fuse.

“Told you,” she said.

Arguing with her was no use.
"It's fitter's orders.”

“What is?"
“My fitter’s very nice.

“Every week he examines me carefully.”

“He says I should never pull.

“I'm highly sprung
and pulling is bad for my swerves.

"So that's how it is."

“Nonsense,” said the stationmaster.

“Whatever made the Fat Controller
send a feeble...”

“Feeble,” spluttered Daisy. “Let me..."

“Stop arguing,” said the passengers.
"We're late."

They uncoupled the van
and Daisy was pleased.

She could enjoy her journey.

“That's a good story. I'll do what work
I choose and no more."

But she said it to herself.
