- The terror of the living dead has returned

and on this night, has claimed as its victim,

one who lives in the great house at Collinwood.

Barnabas Collins has known how great the danger is,

and tonight he will find out how close it is.

- I want you to tell me why you were unconscious when

Willie found you last night?

And why you remained in your room

today and refused to see me?

And, finally, why are you wearing that scarf

around your neck?

- Well, it-- it was cold out.

I-- I needed something to keep my neck warm.

- Well, it isn't cold in here.

Why don't you take it off?

- Barnabas.

- Take it off, Julia.

♪ [dramatic music]

♪ [eerie theme music]

I feared this all day long, but somehow I

kept telling myself it might not be true.

- I-- I tried to-- to keep it from you.

- How long did you expect to fool me of all people?

- What are you going to do?

- What do you think I'm going to do?

I'm going to go out and find that Tom Jennings,

and I'm going to destroy him, and you're going to help me.

- Good night, Barnabas.

- Where did you meet him tonight?

- I don't know.

- Have you seen the coffin yet?

Do you know where it's hidden?

[sighs]

- As you know, I couldn't answer your questions.

even if I wanted to.

- Now listen, Julia.

You know what this man is, and you

know that I'll destroy him when I get the chance.

- If you find him.

I know a great deal more about his affliction

than ordinary people.

I will get him, but I must get him before he destroys you.

- It's too late to stop him.

- No it isn't.

You can tell me where you're going to meet him tonight.

I will follow you there, and I will find out

where the coffin is.

- Barnabas, you know I can't do that, and you know why.

[sighs]

- Yes, I do.

I will take you to the old house with me tonight, now.

- Why?

- Well, you're not going to be safe if you remain here alone.

- I won't be safe no matter where I am.

- Listen.

I will take you to the old house,

I will keep you locked up in a room there,

and that way, you won't be able to go and see him.

- Barnabas, you know that won't stop him.

- Of course it won't!

But if you won't go to see him, he'll be forced to come to you,

and I will be ready for him when he does.

- You can't do that.

- Why not?

- Well, you'll be--

you'll be placing yourself in danger.

- Don't worry about me.

can resume with the experiments.

we said that we would go through with this.

Now, a great many lives depend on our going through with it.

And if we don't, then Adam will carry out his threat.

- Oh, Barnabas, I know all that, but--

but there's nothing I can do.

I'm-- I'm too weak during the day.

I can't go on with the experiment

no matter what Adam does.

[wind whistling]

- Adam!

- What did you call him?

- That's the man who kidnapped me.

I remember now.

- Why you!

[thud]

- Jeff!

- Julia, Barnabas, it's Jeff. He's been hurt.

He-- he came out of the bushes over there.

Julia, will he be all right?

- He has a bad bump on his head.

We've got to get him into the house.

The same man who hit me was the man who

attacked Vicki in the woods.

- I thought you couldn't remember what happened to you?

- I began to as soon as I saw him.

Let's get into the house before he gets too far away

for the sheriff to find him.

- Adam will be on his way to the old house.

He'll be expecting us to be working on the experiment.

We must go to him.

If we don't get there, Vicki will be in danger tonight.

[birds calling]

- On the terrace.

Yes, at Collinwood.

No, I'm absolutely sure.

It was the same man, Sheriff.

He ran into the woods after he hit me.

He's only got six men, but he's sending all of them

up here to search.

- That's good.

You called that man Adam, didn't you?

- Yes.

Are you sure that was his name?

- I'm positive.

It's not possible.

- What isn't?

What are you talking about, Jeff?

It's just-- just a hunch I had about a week ago.

- What kind of a hunch?

- Vicki, I want you to tell me about the incident

in the woods.

- There's not very much to tell.

I was walking along back here and suddenly Adam

appeared out of the bushes.

I screamed, and he picked me up, and then I think I fainted.

- Where did he take you?

- I don't know.

- Well, don't you remember waking up?

- The next thing I remember was coming back here to see you.

- Oh.

So the two days you were missing were a total blank.

- I'm afraid so.

- Vicki, you've got to try to remember anything at all,

anything that might help us find out where that man took you.

- Jeff, I've tried, and I can't remember anything, except--

- Except what?

- There's something Adam said.

- Well, what was it?

- "You will help me."

That's all he said.

What could that possibly--

- I don't know.

- Vicki, I want you to wait here for me.

- Where are you going?

- There's something I have to check on.

- What?

- Something to do with that hunch I mentioned earlier.

I want you to stay here. I won't be long.

- Jeff?

Why can't you tell me?

- Oh Vicki, look, I'll tell you everything, absolutely

everything, just as soon as I get back.

[wind whistling]

[crash]

[door slams]

[approaching footsteps]

- I've been waiting for you, Barnabas.

- Yes, I know. - Where have you been?

- Dr. Hoffman and I have been to Collinwood.

We just heard about what happened on the terrace.

- Yes.

Vicki recognized me.

The man she was with tried to stop me.

- Adam, you are not being very careful.

That young man has just called the police.

They'll be out looking for you again.

- They won't find me.

- I don't know where you've been hiding,

but sooner or later, you're luck's gonna run out on you.

You can't keep eluding the police forever.

- You'd like them to find me, wouldn't you, Barnabas,

so that maybe you won't have to do what you promised to do?

- I have not gone back on my word, Adam.

- It has already been two weeks since you

agreed to give me a mate!

- Adam, please don't be unreasonable.

- Barnabas, we have an agreement!

I have done my part.

No one at Collinwood has been hurt.

Now, why have you not done yours?

- Surely you don't think that we can finish this by now?

- You said it would be done as quickly as possible.

- Julia, please try to make him understand.

- Adam, even-- even though I am a doctor,

there are many complications, there are many things in this

experiment that I don't understand.

It-- it must take time.

- How much time?

- Several weeks.

- Why several weeks?

- I've just explained that to you.

- I don't like your explanation.

Why does it have to take so long?

- I'm afraid it's--

it's my fault that we haven't progressed as quickly.

- Why?

so you won't have to do the experiment?

Now, we're willing to go through with this thing,

but you must give us the time we need.

- You say you need several more weeks.

What does that mean?

- Adam, it's impossible to be that specific.

There's no way of telling.

- Well, I want to know how long, Barnabas!

- Julia.

- I would say, I--

I-- I might be able to have everything ready in four weeks.

- All right.

I will give you four weeks.

- But Julia said we might be ready.

That depends if everything goes well between now and then.

- Well, you will see that everything goes well, Barnabas.

- It isn't that easy, Adam.

- Barnabas, you have four weeks.

That is all!

- All right, Adam.

We'll try to be finished in that time.

But meanwhile, it would help if you left us alone.

- You mean, stay away from here?

I will come back sometimes to see how much progress you

have made and to remind you of what will happen if you fail.

Remember, Barnabas, Vicki first, then one by one,

everyone at Collinwood will die.

- It isn't necessary to remind me of that.

- Yes, it is!

And you will do what I have asked.

- I-- I didn't know what else to tell him except that I'd been

sick.

- You couldn't very well tell him the truth.

He wouldn't have known what you were talking about.

- What are we going to do?

- Well, I'm going to go out and find Jennings and destroy him.

- I wish I could help, but-- - I know.

I understand, Julia.

It's not your fault.

- What are we going to do when he summons me again?

- Well, I'll do everything possible to keep him away

from you.

- It will be very dangerous for you.

- What other choice do I have?

We must finish the experiment, and we only

have four weeks to do it in.

- Yes, and we've barely gotten started.

- Well, you must try to get some work done tomorrow.

- Well, I'm willing to try.

- Good.

Now, I'll take you upstairs to Josette's room.

We'll keep you locked up there.

[wind whistling]

- [THINKING] They've got all of Lang's equipment down here

and all of his instruments.

His private journals.

I was right.

Barnabas lied to me.

They didn't dispose of the creature's body after he died.

They went ahead and completed the experiment for him.

They-- they brought that thing to life.

They created Lang's monster.

But why?

What interest could they have had

in doing something like that?

What do they hope to gain?

And-- and why did they move all of Lang's equipment

into this house?

They must have had some reason, some--

some reason to do this.

[gasps]

Oh, no.

No!

No!

They're going to--

- Yes, Mr. Clark.

We're going to create another one.
