- On this night, the great house of Collinwood is serene.

But beyond it, in the old house on the great estate,

one man is about to make a terrifying discovery, one which

will change the course of his life

and place him in greater danger than he has ever known.

♪ [suspenseful music]

- [THINKING] They've got all of Lang's equipment down here

and all of his instruments.

His private journals.

I was right.

Barnabas lied to me.

They didn't dispose of the creature's body

after Lang died.

They went ahead and completed the experiment for him.

They-- they brought that thing to life.

They created Lang's monster.

But why?

What interest could they have had

in doing something like that?

What do they hope to gain?

And-- and why did they move all of Lang's equipment

into this house?

They must have had some reason, some--

some reason to do this.

♪ [dramatic music]

[gasps]

They-- they're going to create a--

- Yes, Mr. Clark.

We're going to create another one.

♪ [dramatic music]

♪ [eerie theme music]

What are you doing here? - What is this?

Barnabas, what are you doing down here?

- Your curiosity is most unfortunate.

- You lied to me.

You didn't destroy Adam.

- It-- it was necessary.

- He is Dr. Lang's creation, isn't he?

- Yes.

- But Lang died before he completed the experiment.

You and Dr. Hoffman must have brought Adam to life.

- Yes.

Julia and I are responsible for Adam.

- And you want to do this whole thing over again?

You're-- you're going to create another monster.

- Because we must!

- Oh.

Oh, I didn't particularly like you,

but I didn't think you were capable of something like this.

- You don't understand why we're doing this.

- I don't want to understand!

- Clark.

- No.

You're not going to get away with it this time.

I'm gonna call the police. - You're going nowhere.

You're going to listen to me. - That's what you think.

- Do you want Vicki to die?

If you call the police, or do anything

to stop this experiment, Vicki will die.

- What are you talking about?

- Adam has threatened to k*ll Vicki

if we don't create a mate for him.

- What?

- He wants a mate.

And if we don't create it for him, he will k*ll Vicki.

That's why we're doing this.

- I don't believe you.

- Do you believe that Vicki was kidnapped by Adam?

- Yes.

- Why do you suppose he kidnapped her?

- I don't know!

- It was a warning to tell me that he'll

stop at nothing to get what he wants, and he wants a mate.

He knows how I feel about him.

Now, he knows that--

that her death would affect me more than anything else.

Now, surely you can believe that.

- Yes.

Yes, I can believe that.

- Vicki's life is at stake.

If you love her as you say you do,

you will not stop this experiment, you will help us.

- Help you?

- Yes, that's right.

We need help.

You see, Julia is not well, and the experiment

isn't going as it should.

- Well, what can I do to help?

- You helped Dr. Lang when he started to create Adam.

You should know something about it.

- Yes, but I just did what Lang told me to do.

- Then you can do the same for Julia.

You could be a great help to us.

- I can't do these things.

I can't just get involved in the stuff that I was before.

- Then you don't love her as you say you do.

- Oh.

I love Vicki, Barnabas.

I love her, and I'm going to do the sensible thing.

I'm going to go to Collinwood tonight--

- Do you think--

- --and I'm gonna tell her to pack her things,

and we're gonna get out of here.

- Do you think that she will leave without an explanation?

- She'll do anything I tell her.

- Perhaps.

But Vicki isn't the only person whose life is in danger.

If we don't go ahead with this, Adam

has threatened to k*ll every member of the Collins family.

Now, do you want to see Carolyn die, or Elizabeth, or David?

- Of course not.

- Then you will help us with the experiments.

If you don't, and if we fail, every one of the Collins family

will be destroyed, and you will be equally to blame.

- What kind of a monster have you and Dr. Hoffman created?

And why did you do it?

- For reasons I cannot explain.

But I will tell you this, I wish I had never started it.

- And suppose-- suppose by some miracle you manage to create

this mate.

What then?

- Adam has promised to go away with her and leave Vicki

and the rest of the Collins family alone.

- And-- and you trust him?

- I have to trust him!

I have no other choice, and neither do you.

- No.

There must be some other way.

- Well there isn't, so you must cooperate with us.

- I'm sorry to disturb you at this hour

of the morning, Barnabas, but I can't find Julia Hoffman.

She isn't in her room at Collinwood.

Is she here by any chance?

- Yes, she's staying here for a few days.

- Really?

- Well, she's doing some research on her book,

and she's using my library.

It's more convenient for her to stay here.

- Please wake her.

I must see her immediately.

- Well, what's wrong?

- Liz has escaped from Windcliff.

- Escaped?

- Yes.

She disappeared from her room some time last night.

The hospital just notified me, and I'm nearly frantic.

- She's escaped from Windcliff. [gasps] And

- Roger is downstairs.

He wants to see you.

- Oh Barnabas, no.

- But he wants you to get in touch

with the people at Windcliff.

He seems to think that they have some information for you.

He insists upon seeing you. - No.
