NARRATOR: The year is

and Collinwood is filled with bitterness and hatred

and at the old house on the estate,

revenge is being plotted.

For Barnabas Collins's secret

has been discovered by a woman

who is determined to destroy him

and whose attempts to do that

have been thwarted by the one person

who refuses to let Barnabas's curse end.

But now the battle lines are drawn

and on this dark and cloudy day,

each woman knows that she must destroy the other

or be destroyed herself.

[ ominous music ]

Quentin, Magda did well.

Now we can begin.

You have the Book of the Dead?

Here it is.

No, I just bought it.

You will perform the ceremony.

Me?

What's the matter, Quentin?

Are you suddenly feeling sentimental

about the lady you once betrayed?

No, I wasn't thinking of Laura.

It's the ceremony I don't like.

It comes to close

to the angry ancient god for comfort.

I assure you,

the only one who will feel any discomfort

will Be Laura herself.

Pity that truth.

And now, I will place you on your funeral pyre.

A bed of flames for you to sleep in... forever.

[ match striking ]

[ fire crackles ]

Begin the ceremony.

Amon-Ra...

Prince of Light and Radiance,

creator of things which came into being

when the earth took form in the beginning,

master of the bounds of eternity,

Shining One, Dweller in Light,

accept this sacrifice to thee.

[ fire crackling ]

Great one, son of The Great One,

Fire, Son of Fire,

accept this sacrifice,

homage to thee, Lord of Creation,

whose abode is hidden.

Homage thou claim

which come forth from the horizon

and passes over the sky

and homage to thee

who puts an end to the darkness

of the night.

[ fire crackling ]

Oh, Great god Ra,

giver of warmth and power,

hear me!

Protect me...

and crush my enemy.

[ dramatic music ]

[ waves crashing ]

[ eerie music ]

Oh! No!

Oh, Great God Ra, why are you punishing me?

With Jamison, with Collin, send him here in your place

to ruin Angelique's plans.

Oh, please send Jamison.

Do not forsake me.

Send Jamison!

[ eerie music ]

[ moans ]

Jamison.

Fire, fire burning.

Darling, you're having a dream.

Old house, fire.

Jamison, can you hear me?

Water...

Old house.

Water.

Water, water!

Yes, yes, I'll get it right away.

Oh, Ra, call to thee thy servant, Laura.

Take her to thy breast.

Look!

She's fighting.

Ra needs her here still.

The fire won't last.

It's gone out again.

It won't light.

You must call on Set.

- No, no. - You must!

No, it's not good to disturb the god of death.

Why are you frightened, Quentin?

You have much more to fear from Laura if she lives.

She'll know your part in this.

Hear my voice

in the depths of the underworld, oh Set,

God of Air,

who first brought death to mortals,

enemy of Osiris,

show your green face to her

who's Ra's servant.

Rekindle the fire.

Show Ra your powers are greater than his.

Let her burn for your glory!

Oh yes!

Yes!

Oh, thank thee, Oh Set.

Oh, thank thee, Oh Set.

Let not the innocence of Ra

nor the desire of Osiris stop you or defeat you.

Let not the innocence of Ra

nor the desire of Osiris stop you or defeat you.

Let no one push you back into the fireless darkness.

Let no one push you back into the fireless darkness

to the black darkness which is your home.

To the black darkness which is your home.

No!

You're hurting her!

I won't let you, I won't!

[ fire crackling ]

ANGELIQUE: The fire, Get him out of here!

Jamison!

No, don't come near me.

I know what you're doing.

I know, I know what that doll is.

Oh, Jamison.

Darling, are you alright?

I've been so frightened.

You shouldn't have...

You know how sick he is.

Why are you just standing there?

Why didn't you bring him home?

He just walked in.

You must lie down.

No, I can't.

- Not until... - Until what?

Tell me, Jamison and I'll see that it's done.

Darling, you're so cold.

It must be a reaction

from all that fever you've been having.

You must lie down.

I can't.

Not until they promise.

Promise what?

Promise what, Quentin.

You know what he's talking about.

I don't at all.

Why, he's delirious!

No, that's not true.

You know that's not true.

Now, now, Jamison, it's no use getting yourself so upset.

It'll do you no good.

Now, Jamison, it really won't.

JAMISON: Why don't you tell her what you were doing?

What were you two doing here?

Oh, Mrs. Collins, we were just here by chance.

I came here to wait for Barnabas

and Quentin came to see him. That's all.

What about that doll?

The doll, that'll surely show you.

Come, look at the doll.

JAMISON: Look.

Why, there's nothing there.

What are you talking about?

Oh, my poor darling.

[ ominous music ]

He is still so cold.

Perhaps this will help.

Rest, darling.

Rest and then Quentin will carry you back to Collinwood.

It's as if he believes his dreams are real,

the doll in the fireplace, this house burning.

Oh, what's happening here.

All so strange.

The doctor said nothing is wrong

but there is.

It's so weird.

Have you ever thought how upsetting

his mother must be for him?

Well, of course she is

and to the rest of us as well.

Do you think she has anything to do with this?

I wish I could be more definite.

Whatever I think of Laura,

I can't believe that any woman

could be so lacking in love that she--

You should be able to tell us, Quentin.

You know her infinitely better that the rest of us.

Now, sister--

Yes, but you do and I-- Oh, no!

What's wrong?

He's gone.

But he couldn't have gotten far.

- Come. - Oh, yes, you go on.

No, but Quentin, I need your help.

Well listen, he must be just down on a path.

I'll be with you shortly.

What are we going to do now?

- Give me a minute to think. - You don't have a minute.

I know.

Laura knows you have powers.

She should by now, shouldn't she?

She's plotting something this very minute.

You're the victim.

- Or you are. - You'll be first.

Well, then I should protect myself, shouldn't I?

Exactly.

Alright, then I will.

Get me a mirror.

A full length mirror.

I've got to find Jamison.

Don't worry, do what I tell you, Quentin.

Laura needs Jamison alive now.

She won't bother with us until she's, with him,

until she's finished Barnabas and me.

But Judith will think that something...

It doesn't matter what Judith thinks.

Surely you're old enough now

not to worry about that.

Go upstairs and get me the mirror.

Why?

Because I want to look at myself.

That's right, somehow I've forgotten, right now,

what I look like.

Don't worry.

You can leave as soon as you bring me the mirror.

I have my secrets even from you.

Now go, quickly.

[ eerie music ]

Mother!

Jamison.

Thank you. Thank you!

You gave me such a scare when I saw you like that.

I'm fine now.

Honest?

You are the reason I am.

Darling.

Why do they hate you so much?

It's Angelique.

Not Quentin?

I know now that Quentin is a very weak man.

You should feel sorry for him.

He just does what he's told to do.

Well, is that wrong?

For a boy, no,

but for a man, yes.

Well, then why does Angelique hate you so much?

Because I know a secret.

A terribly important secret.

One that no one should know

but she may force me to tell it.

JAMISON: I like secrets.

Oh, so do I , darling. So do I.

Well, tell me what it is.

It's about Barnabas

and why he's never seen during the day.

I know that secret.

He goes to Bangor all the time.

Oh yes, yes he does. [ laughs ]

Oh darling, oh it's so good to hold you again.

Soon I shall be able to whenever I want.

Oh, won't it be marvelous.

I shall have you and Nora with me always.

Darling, you still want to come with me, don't you?

You haven't changed your mind?

No, I still want to come with you.

[ ominous music ]

[ door opening ]

Jamison?

You haven't found him?

The servants are looking for him.

Really, Quentin, you should have come with me.

You could have run up the path and caught him

but no, you had to stay.

I won't even think about why.

You obviously already have, dear sister.

You are incredible.

- [ Quentin laughs ] - How could you?

Going behind Barnabas's back.

I won't have it. You leave Angelique alone.

[ door opening ]

Jamison.

Yes, Judith, your patient.

Why did you leave the old house?

Darling, I want you to go upstairs and go to bed.

I'll take him up.

No you will not, Judith.

Please, dear, go upstairs.

Judith, I said no!

He's sick.

Your concern does not impress me now.

You let him wander out of this house.

If that's the kind of care he gets here...

I'm surprised, you brought him back, Laura.

LAURA: I nearly didn't.

Hmm, for some reason it suited your purpose

to do it?

I realized that Judith and Edward

would be to the cottage by evening, screaming angrily.

I had no desire to subject the child to that.

Ah.

But Judith, I do think

you should have someone sit with him

until he is well.

I'm perfectly willing to do it.

Not now.

I have a surprise for you, Judith.

One that I dislike having to tell you

but I'm afraid I must.

That will be interesting.

If you don't mind Quentin,

I'd like to tell Judith alone.

I mind, of course.

You know my insatiable curiosity.

Well, perhaps she'll tell you.

She'll certainly have to do something about it.

Judith, I must warn you, it's not pleasant,

not pleasant at all.

Shall we go inside?

It's about what's happening at the old house.

[ Laura laughs ]

What is happening at the old house?

Has it to do with David, Jamison?

Why he went there?

It's about Barnabas Collins.

Cousin Barnabas?

[ laughs ] Cousin?

I don't see that that's so funny.

He is our cousin. You can see that.

All you have to do is look at the portrait in the hall.

You look at it, Judith.

Only after you hear what I have to say,

I doubt very much that you ever will again.

You will take it from the wall and burn it.

I don't understand.

That portrait and Barnabas Collins...

[ dramatic music ]

I-I...

What is it, what's wrong?

I...

She seems to have lost her voice, Miss Collins.

[ eerie music ]

[ gasping ]

We must call a doctor.

Ah, from here?

Oh, but surely a doctor could help you.

[ gasps ]

Laura!

At least let, let me walk home with you.

JUDITH: Laura!

[ door slams ]

What happened to her?

Why didn't she tell you her secret, sister mine?

No, no, I've never seen anything like that.

I wouldn't have believed it myself

if I hadn't been here.

It's as is something stopped her

from saying what she wanted to say.

Was she talking about Barnabas?

Laura lies so much.

I'm surprised she hasn't strangled

on her stories by this time.

What did she mean about Barnabas

and the old house.

I do wish I trusted her more.

But you do have no reason to.

You needn't remind me of that.

I'll be upstairs with Jamison if she comes back.

I doubt if she does.

You're very gifted, you know?

Besides being beautiful, dangerous,

all the things I like.

Why do you want Barnabas Collins, not me?

Because I love Barnabas and not you.

Listen to me carefully.

Laura will be at the cottage

already planning her revenge.

We have no time, even for nice compliments.

Go to the old house, now.

Don't stop anywhere along the way

and wait for me there.

I will join you after I've finished with one thing.

When are you going to tell me what's going on? [ laughs ]

I bring you a mirror and you say, "leave".

I walk in her and you say, "go there".

Shall I simply make you do it, Quentin?

[ door opens and closes ]

You're still such a child, Quentin,

but what a surprise I have in store for you. [ laughs ]

[ fire crackling ]

[ Laura choking ]

Oh, Great God Ra, why have you forsaken me?

Why have you left me to fight alone?

Help me, help me.

I thought you were going to be at the other place?

How did you get here?

I beg your pardon?

I just left you.

Shall we play a game of cards?

- Now wait a minute. - Any game you like.

No, no, no, I don't understand.

You can't have completed the whole game.

Sit down, Quentin.

[ laughs uncertainly ] But then...

Why should I understand?

If I had your power...

oh, if I did.

Now, are you going to tell me why I'm here.

I simply wanted you to be here with me...

when it happens.

QUENTIN: When what happens?

[ foreboding music ]

[ fire crackling ]

Give me the strength to crush my enemy.

Give me your precious fire.

Let it start in the depths of her soul.

Let her fear the flames inside her.

Let it happen, Great Ra,

for I am lost unless you do.

QUENTIN: You know what's going on, tell me!

Are we in danger?

Are we?

Your arm, it's hot!

What's happening here?

What's happening?

Oh great Ra,

the heat grows in her body, thank you.

The heat like coals, smoldering.

Like red coals about to burst into flame.

Let the flame come, Great Ra.

Let the flame come!

[ flames crackling ]

[ Angelique screaming ]

[ dramatic music ]

[ screaming ]
