NARRATOR:Barnabas Collins has come back to the past

to save the lives of two people in the future.

But for him, there will be neither present nor future.

For he is the c*ptive of Count Petofi,

and the four walls of his coffin have become his prison.

Yes, this arrangement will do very well.

We can give our distinguished friend

the attention he requires more easily here

than we could in the west wing.

He'll be very surprised

when he finds himself here when he wakes.

I don't think so, Aristede.

Barnabas Collins and I have been at w*r for quite a long while.

This is one more battle in that w*r.

But it is the last one.

It will go on until he gives me what I want.

It won't be easy to convince him to give up

his mission that brought him to this time.

No, it will be difficult.

But I assure you, I shall do it.

How?

Military strategy, my boy.

I shall do what one does to win any crucial battle.

Increase the pressure,

intensify the enemy's discomfort

until he can bear it no longer.

Until he has no choice but to surrender.

How are you going to increase the pressures, Excellency?

Thus far, only those who Barnabas Collins

cares for in this time have suffered.

Now, I shall attack from another side.

Hit him from both directions, so to speak.

Catch him in a pincers from which he cannot escape.

Until he gives me what I want.

Now I shall start working on those whom

Barnabas Collins loves in his own time.

But you can't see that time, Excellency.

How are you going to know who those people are?

Barnabas Collins mentioned one name.

With that one name,

with the knowledge of that one person,

I can begin my attack.

My attack that will make Barnabas Collins

realize he must go back to his own time.

And take me with him.

Who is that person, excellency?

Why,

David Collins.

Of course.

[ dramatic music ]

[ eerie music ]

I don't understand, how are you going to use David?

Put out the lights, Aristede.

Why?

Because darkness must call to darkness.

Jamison Collins,

your spirit is still under my control.

I command it to enter into the darkness

of the yet to be born.

Let it welcome the form, the feelings,

and the knowledge of one

who lives in a future time.

I command it.

No matter what the cost.

No matter what the pain.

[ Jamison screams ]

NORA: What's the matter?

Why are you screaming?

Quentin, get Quentin.

Are you sure it's all right to leave you here alone?

Get him, hurry.

Well.

Where are you going?

You said to get Quentin.

Call him on the telephone, Amy,

the way you always do.

Jameson, why are you calling me Amy?

Why are you looking at me so strangely?

Something terrible's the matter.

Don't play these tricks on me, Amy.

My name is David, you know that.

I better get Quentin, or Beth.

No, don't go.

Call Quentin.

I said I was going to call him, Jamison.

Use the telephone.

But he's right here in this house.

I know he is, and everyone else is away.

Aunt Elizabeth and Roger, he drove them all away.

Jamison, what's the matter with you?

Stop calling me that name!

Just get Quentin, call him.

Amy!

All right, I'll do it myself.

[ ominous music ]

Quentin.

Quentin.

Quentin.

Here, I'm here.

You've come for me, haven't you, Quentin?

Yes, I'm come to make sure you're all right.

Come on, I think you better lie down.

Why is Amy back in the house?

Amy?

Yes, he thinks my name is Amy,

and he thinks his is David.

David?

David Collins.

NORA: I don't know.

Why is Amy back in the house?

Does that mean everyone else is here?

Aunt Elizabeth and Carolyn?

Are they here, Quentin?

I don't want that.

Now, lie down, everything's going to be all right.

What's the matter with him, Uncle Quentin?

Now, Nora, you be a good girl and go to your room.

Who is David Collins?

I don't know, Nora.

Jamison.

David.

David.

David, do you know me?

Yes.

You're Quentin.

David, how do you know me?

[ ominous music ]

Jamison didn't mean to frighten me, I know he didn't.

It's just that, well, he's been sick.

And when people are sick, they sometimes get mixed up.

[ knocking ]

Who's there?

VOICEOVER: Tim Shaw, Nora.

Tim.

Tim, I'm so glad to see you.

Why, what's the matter?

I was trying to explain to my doll,

but I don't think that she understood.

Explain what?

The way Jamison's been acting.

Well, why, what do you mean?

Well, he frightened me before,

but I really don't think he meant it.

Well, I'm sure he didn't.

Nora, you, you know why I'm here?

NORA: You want your package.

The one with the pretty box in it.

How do you know about the pretty box?

NORA: Because I unwrapped the package.

Nora.

Did you see what was in the box?

NORA: I couldn't open it.

Then you didn't see.

Good, but you should not have opened the box.

Please don't be angry at me.

TIM: Well, I won't be if you bring it to me now.

I can't.

You can't, why not?

NORA: Because Jamison has it.

After everything I told you,

you gave that box to Jamison?

I didn't give it to him.

He took it, I couldn't help it, Tim!

I didn't want to do it,

but he made me do it.

He forced me.

Did he say anything about what was in the box?

No, he couldn't have done that.

He just took it.

He's been acting so strangely these past few days.

Tim, why are you looking at me that way?

I'm sorry.

[ Nora sobs ]

Stop it, stop it, will you?

Stop that crying.

I didn't mean to make any cause

for trouble for you.

I know it, I know you didn't.

Perhaps there isn't any trouble at all,

all I have to do is get that box back from Jamison,

and everything will be all right.

But he isn't in his room.

He's downstairs.

He's sick.

Sick?

He hasn't been

acting himself lately,

he's been very,

very strange, no.

He couldn't have opened.

He wouldn't have used.

He wouldn't dare.

[ dramatic music ]

Is Jamison in there?

- Why? - I must speak with him.

You can't, he's sleeping.

Wake him.

He's not well.

I say I must talk to the boy.

Well, well, you're suddenly in the habit

- of giving orders, aren't you? - Quentin.

And that's a startling change, isn't it?

I just want to speak to the young whippersnapper.

And I said you couldn't.

Jameson doesn't have the hand.

How did you know he had it?

Did he give it to you?

- QUENTIN: No. - Who does have it?

Quentin, who has that hand?

You know, Tim, you're going to have to stop

demanding things now that you don't have anything

to back you up with.

I intend to get that hand.

Would you like to make a wager on that?

You know, I,

I could use some of that new found

fortune of yours.

Or, perhaps instead of money,

the winner could have an evening with

that very beautiful young lady

I saw you with at the inn.

What about her?

That's what I'd like to know.

What about her?

Why has she come to Collinwood?

You know, Tim,

I don't know what you're up to.

But I don't think I like it.

Whatever I'm up to, Quentin,

is none of your business.

And I'll thank you to

tell me if you know where the hand is.

All right.

I'll tell you where you can find it.

You go to the abandoned mill at the end of North Road.

Your friend Aristede is there.

Oh, does he have the hand?

QUENTIN: No.

But he can lead you right to

the person who does have it.

Hello.

Was I sleeping long?

QUENTIN: Quite a long time.

That's how I always thought it would go.

QUENTIN: How what would go?

Been waiting for such a long time,

and now it's finally happened.

And you were right.

QUENTIN: What are you talking about?

Well, you said that I wouldn't be frightened.

And I'm not.

Just as long as I'm here with you.

QUENTIN: Jamison, you've got to tell me what

you're talking about.

But you told me.

Don't you remember?

You said that we could be together, forever.

Now that I'm dead, like you.

But you're not dead.

And neither am I.

Now, Jamison, listen to me.

Jamison.

What's happening to him?

Barnabas.

Barnabas can help me.

He's got to.

Barnabas.

In this dark hour,

I know you can hear me.

I know you can come to me.

So wherever you are, please come to me and to Jamison.

We need you desperately.

Barnabas.

Can you hear me?

Barnabas.

TIM: If you would be so kind, Aristede,

to hold it right about there.

What are you doing here?

TIM: I've come for the hand.

You can't be serious.

Oh, but I am serious.

I'm going to k*ll you unless you tell me

where that hand is.

ARISTEDE: You can't have the hand back.

I'm getting it back, Aristede, or you die.

I should k*ll you, just for the way you treated Amanda.

Yes, indeed, you deserve to die.

ARISTEDE: What do you get then?

Aristede dead, but no hand.

Oh, you'll never get the hand.

TIM: Won't I?

I shall if I have to turn this place inside out.

I'm afraid I can't allow you to do that, Mr. Shaw.

- TIM: Who are you? - It would make a dreadful mess.

TIM: Who are you?

And this place isn't exactly a palace, but

it is quite pleasant, I think.

Grown rather fond of it, and I'd hate to see it

torn apart by your eager and misguided treasure hunt.

How, how do you know me?

PETOFI: I make it my business to know anyone

whose path crosses that of the hand of Count Petofi.

Petofi?

You're connected with him?

You could say that.

Well, just as well,

there are enough b*ll*ts in this g*n for you both,

I suggest that either of you

begin now to tell me where the hand is.

No, Mr. Shaw.

You're mistaken.

There aren't enough b*ll*ts in your g*n for me.

A man who's lived for years isn't easy to k*ll.

years.

PETOFI: Yes, and I've spent of them traveling

from one end of the Earth to the other,

searching for just one thing.

One thing, Mr. Shaw.

And now I've found it.

Aristede was right, Mr. Shaw,

you can't have the hand.

No one can.

It's mine!

It's mine again!

[ suspenseful music ]

You can't be Count Petofi.

PETOFI: Can't be?

I am.

It's impossible.

Come now, my dear Mr. Shaw.

Surely you've had the hand long enough to know

some of the things it can do.

Long enough, so that expression of fear

and surprise should be missing from your face.

But, even the hand,

even the hand itself cannot reattach itself.

Why?

Because it defies what you know of the world?

My dear Mr. Shaw, your knowledge

of the world is limited to your own moment of time.

The hand is mine again.

And it will remain mine, no matter

who tries to take it from me.

What's the matter, Mr. Shaw?

I find this all rather

difficult to believe.

Then, pretend it was a dream.

Now you've waked.

And the world is as it was before.

Before you fell asleep

and imagined a magic hand.

And the fact that it has brought no evil.

Though good can turn to evil.

TIM: But

I wish to hear no "buts", Mr. Shaw.

The hand has made you a happy man.

No.

Not happy, not happy at all.

I shan't be happy until I

have revenge on two people who did me a most

terrible injustice.

PETOFI: Who are they?

Trask and Evan Hanley.

PETOFI: I congratulate you on your choice of enemies.

Oh, then, perhaps you'd be willing to help

me wreak my revenge.

PETOFI: I rarely do anything without a price.

Oh, that's all right.

I have plenty of money.

And you have a beautiful and devoted young lady.

But neither of your assets

is of the least interest to me, at the moment.

But who knows.

Times may change.

And when one has lived years,

one has seen them change a good deal.

Good afternoon, Mr. Shaw.

We may meet again.

[ Petofi laughs ]

He just tried to k*ll me,

and you let him walk out of here.

Really, Aristede, you're being childish.

Haven't you realized the thrill in danger,

the excitement of a g*n in your ribs?

The knowledge that you're only a few seconds

from extinction.

My dear Aristede, I

envy you the pleasure of almost dying.

Now, get out of here.

ARISTEDE: Why?

Two visitors, in fact,

and they're almost here.

Who are they?

You'll see on your way out.

I'm going to the Blue Whale for a drink.

Have one for me, my dear Aristede.

And if you happen to see

a particularly beautiful young lady,

tell her that the Count Petofi

sends his compliments.

[ ominous music ]

Mr. Collins.

He's dying.

Why bring him here, then?

Take him to a doctor.

A doctor will do no good.

- He's been possessed. - Really?

Listen, an alien spirit controls him.

One who will k*ll him unless you do something.

An alien spirit?

- Do you know whose it is? - Someone named David Collins.

An ancestor from the past?

I don't think so.

What do you think, Mr. Collins?

I'm not sure.

Have you heard the name before?

Jamison had a dream about David Collins.

Told it to Barnabas.

Barnabas explained it away,

saying David Collins didn't exist.

But he must exist in some time.

Otherwise he could hardly possess the boy, could he?

I don't know!

All I know is he's going to die unless

you do something to save him.

I, Mr. Collins?

I know you can.

And besides, you owe it to him.

What an interesting and presumptuous idea.

Oh, now why is it presumptuous?

He did your work for you while you were

too weak to look for the hand yourself.

Now, surely you owe him something for that.

What I wanted, I took.

I owe the boy nothing.

All right.

You owe him nothing.

And I apologize for thinking there were any

human feelings in your heart.

But how very human you are, Mr. Collins.

I find it extraordinary.

The question is,

do I find it extraordinary enough

to save the boy?

And do you?

To be brutally frank, Mr. Collins,

I don't know.

Quentin.

- Quentin. - I'm right here, Jamison.

The Quentin, he's calling for.

Is that you?

Yes.

But how can that be?

You told me he was possessed by a David Collins who--

who lives in the year .

He is, completely.

And this David Collins is...

calling for you?
