NARRATOR: It's the Jubilife City Pokémon Contest, and Dawn

couldn't be giddier with excitement about her debut!

The beautiful dress her mother had given her didn't hurt

matters, either. Making things more interesting, Aipom has

convinced Ash to compete as well!Adding to their circle of

friends is the introduction of a powerful Coordinator named Zoey,

already with one ribbon under her belt.Never one to be left

out, a disguised Jessie, or Jessilina,

also entered the fray, making Round One truly exciting!

And so, between Dawn, Ash, Zoey, Jessilina, and the many other

contestants, who will survive the first-round judging?

I can see why you already have a ribbon.

JOHANNA: Of course I was watching!

JOHANNA: Congratulations on getting to Round Two.

DAWN: Thanks, Mom!

JOHANNA: Remember, this is a whole new ball game.

make your Pokémon look their best!

MARIAN: Okay, ladies and gentlemen, time for our second

round, and here's the battle board!

MARIAN: So, let's give the board a random shuffle and see

our matchups. And there they are!

DAWN: I'm sure you'll be great!

MARIAN: And Ash makes the first move!

ZOEY: Stay, Glameow.

DAWN: Why won't Glameow move?

BROCK: She's got something up her sleeve.

ASH: You wanna lay back, fine with me! Aipom, use Focus Punch!

MARIAN: And Aipom descends from above with a Focus Punch!

ZOEY: Grab Aipom! GLAMEOW: [EFFORT]

AIPOM: [SHOCKED] MARIAN: Surprise, surprise.

MARIAN: With a quick flick of the tail,

Glameow's stopped that Focus Punch cold!

DAWN: Glameow's so fast!

BROCK: That was some strategy.

MARIAN: Using Aipom's att*ck for a counterattack

DAWN: How did Glameow get through Aipom's att*ck?

BROCK: Not only did that show off Glameow's power,

it showed how clever Zoey is as well!

JAMES: Looks like the Twerp's up to his cap in calamity.

MEOWTH: I guess contests aren't just another day at the Gym.

JESSIE: Of course they aren't! It takes finesse.

Something a member of the male persuasion doesn't have.

ASH: Don't give up! Aipom, Focus Punch!

ZOEY: Glameow! Iron Tail, let's go!

ASH: Whoa.hit at the same time!

ZOEY: Straighten your tail!

MARIAN: Somehow Glameow managed to use Iron Tail

while at the same time straightening its tail

for a soul-rattling hit! AIPOM: [PAINED]

MARIAN: Well, we've just passed the -second mark,

and at this point Zoey has a huge advantage!

ASH: Yeah, so?

ASH: Aipom! We just can't let 'em b*at us like this!

AIPOM: [DETERMINED] ASH: Now, Focus Punch!

AIPOM: [AFFIRMATIVE]

MARIAN: Guess Ash isn't about to give up yet!

MARIAN: And Aipom sets its sights on Glameow

with a Focus Punch!

ASH: Shadow Claw? All right, now's our chance!

DAWN: Hold on. That's a Ghost-type move!

That won't work on a normal type like Aipom!

BROCK: I don't think it's the hit that Zoey's going for.

GLAMEOW: [SHADOW CLAW MOVE] AIPOM: [IMPACT]

MARIAN: And both att*cks smash into each other,

but it looks like the Focus Punch is getting through!

ASH: Let's go!

AIPOM: [FEROCIOUS]

ZOEY: Jump, Glameow!

GLAMEOW: [AFFIRMATIVE] ASH: [SHOCKED]

MARIAN: And Glameow's out of there and quick,

leaving Aipom in a daze! BROCK: [SHOCKED]

MARIAN: That Shadow Claw was just a bluff!

ZOEY: Now, Glameow! Iron Tail!

GLAMEOW: [IRON TAIL MOVE] AIPOM: [IMPACT]

MARIAN: And Glameow's Iron Tail makes a super-clean hit!

AIPOM: [WEAK]

MARIAN: We're down to the wire here.

MARIAN: Has the end result been decided?

ASH: Not if I can help it!

ASH: Aipom! Use Focus Punch, max power!

AIPOM: [FOCUS PUNCH MOVE] MARIAN: Talk about determined!

MARIAN: This is a battle to the finish!

MARIAN: Will Ash and Aipom somehow create

a miracle turnaround?

MARIAN: And the winner of this awesome high-tension battle is.

CONTESTA: Well, that was impressive! To use a move that

would normally be ineffective in such a way was just striking!

SUKIZO: Yes.remarkable as well!

NURSE JOY: I forgot I was watching a contest!

ASH: You worked really hard, Aipom.

AIPOM: [PLEASED]

DAWN: That was one of the most exciting battles I've ever seen!

My heart was b*ating so fast!

BROCK: Yeah, but if you ask me, uh.

Don't you think things got a little wild?

I totally forgot about making sure

my moves were all looking good.

DAWN: Hi, Zoey!

ASH: Congratulations on your win.

ZOEY: That last Focus Punch...

It was so powerful, I froze in my tracks!

ASH: Yeah? I guess I was just concentrating so hard.

ZOEY: If time hadn't run out when it did.

I'm sure you would've beaten me.

ZOEY: Still, if you don't mind me saying,

I don't think a Contest Battle is where you shine.

ASH: Yeah! I guess I had to try it. But I know you're right!

Ash entered the contest because Aipom wantedto take a sh*t!

DAWN: Of course! Don't you see? This is the first time

I get to battle a high-level Coordinator like you?

ZOEY: Oh. That's sweet of you to say.

ZOEY: So! The last thing I want to do is let you down!

DAWN: Great! I'll give it all I've got as well!

MARIAN: Now we head into the first of the second round

of appeal battles!

MARIAN: Our contestants are Dawn.

MARIAN: So, with five minutes on the clock, are we ready?

MARIAN: Then let's go!

BROCK: They've already shown what they've got

in the second round,

so whoever wins this will show they can change it up!

MARIAN: How cute! And powerful, too!

MARIAN: That's the name of the game!

ZOEY: Glameow! Use Shadow Claw!

GLAMEOW: [AFFIRMATIVE]

ASH: Shadow Claw again?

DAWN: But you know Buneary's a normal type.

ZOEY: That's true. But sometimes being indirect works.

ZOEY: Like now! GLAMEOW: [SHADOW CLAW MOVE]

MARIAN: Awesome! Glameow's Shadow Claw just grabbed

the Ice Beam!

MARIAN: Not only that, the Shadow Claw's caught

the blue light from Buneary's Ice Beam,

creating a stunning contrast!

MARIAN: It's a sight to behold!

ASH: Zoey's using all of Dawn's

att*cks to make her own moves look better!

BROCK: That's what Contest Battles are about...

DAWN: Okay, watch this! Buneary! Use Bounce, let's go!

BUNEARY: [BOUNCE MOVE]

MARIAN: Another combination of cute and toughness!

ZOEY: Glameow, jump too!

ZOEY: Fury Swipes!

MARIAN: A Fury Swipes direct hit!

Buneary's ears seem to have a certain Glameow by the tail!

ZOEY: I'll admit that's an attractive move you made...

But perhaps you've forgotten you always need to follow up!

MARIAN: Oh my! That tail has such power.

MARIAN: Buneary's in a tail spin!

DAWN: Buneary!

ZOEY: Time for a little toss!

GLAMEOW: [EFFORT]

DAWN: Buneary, straighten out! Then use Ice Beam!

ZOEY: Dodge it, quick!

MARIAN: What do you know!

Glameow's getting slipped up on that ice!

- ZOEY: Dumb luck! - ASH: Now's your chance, Dawn!

ZOEY: Glameow!

DAWN: And now let's use Bounce!

Dawn and Buneary are right in sync.

And the audience is totally loving every second of it!

ZOEY: Now use Iron Tail!

GLAMEOW: [AFFIRMATIVE]

BROCK: [SHOCKED] DAWN: Buneary!

MARIAN: That Iron Tail hits it right home!

DAWN: Buneary! Get up now! BUNEARY: [WEAK]

DAWN: Be strong! You can do it.!

MARIAN: That's it! Time's up!

MARIAN: And that means, moving on to our final stage will be...

the winner, Zoey!

DAWN: Well, guess that's it.

BUNEARY: [DISAPPOINTED]

DAWN: Buneary, don't be sad. You were wonderful out there!

BUNEARY: [SAD] CONTESTA: Excellent!

The way Glameow used its tail was a sight to behold!

And as far as Buneary and Dawn, it looked

to me like they were trying to overpower things a bit too much.

SUKIZO: Right! Remarkable!

NURSE JOY: I can't wait to see what beautiful moves Glameow

will show us up on the final stage! I'm sure we'll be seeing

lots more from Dawn and Buneary as well!

ASH: I'll tell you, that sure was an awesome battle...

PIKACHU: [SAD]

BROCK: Sure was! And even more amazing is,

it was Dawn's first time!

ASH: Yeah, you're right! Don't you think, Pikachu?

PIKACHU: [AGREEMENT]

DAWN: Mom, I'm really sorry I lost...

JOHANNA: You don't have to apologize to me.

Apologize to your Pokémon if you need to be sorry.

- DAWN: Okay... - JOHANNA: Stop crying, Dawn!

JOHANNA: There are better things to do!

You'd be smarter thinking about what went wrong!

Then you can figure out what you'll be doing

MARIAN: Now we've already seen both Carnivine

and Glameow usingevery move they've got.

MARIAN: So how will they mix it up this time?

JAMES: Our girl just might win!

MEOWTH: Then take cover!

JESSIE: That ribbon is mine! All righty then, Carnivine,

use Bite! CARNIVINE: [BITE MOVE]

ZOEY: Shadow Claw!

GLAMEOW: [SHADOW CLAW MOVE] CARNIVINE: [PAINED]

MARIAN: And Glameow gets out of a tight spot

with a quick Shadow Claw!

ZOEY: Now use Fury Swipes!

GLAMEOW: [AFFIRMATIVE]

- JESSIE: Carnivine! - MARIAN: Wow! Beautiful!

MARIAN: That Fury Swipes looks like a thousand flashes

of glorious white light!

DAWN: Wow. Awesome!

BROCK: That just goes to show you what

incredible speed can do!

CARNIVINE: [PAINED]

JESSIE: Give me a break! b*llet Seed, tout de suite!

ZOEY: Dodge, then Iron Tail!

GLAMEOW: [EFFORT]

MARIAN: Oops! She's all out of points!

MEOWTH: Just like old times.

MEOWTH: Back to bottlecaps.

MARIAN: Let's give a big hand to Zoey as she receives

the prestigious Jubilife Ribbon!

MARIAN: A gorgeous ribbon, an appreciative crowd,

and a great champion!

- ASH: Good for you, Zoey! - BROCK: You deserve your win!

DAWN: Now you've got your second ribbon!

ZOEY: Thanks. To all of you! Dawn, so tell me!

How was your first contest?

DAWN: It felt like riding the biggest roller coaster ever!

But it was a lot of fun.

Zoey, will I see you at another contest?

ZOEY: You'll just have to show up!

DAWN: I've got one more thing I wanna say to you.

DAWN: I know I may not look like much now, but I'm gonna keep on

training until I become a great Coordinator, too! The best,
