- Hi. - Hi, Mario.

- Hey, did you know there's a great big,

scary spider here in the bandstand?

- Really?

Where?

- Right here.

- That's not a scary spider.

I think he looks cute.

- Like the itsy bitsy spider.

♪ The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout ♪

♪ Down came the rain and washed the spider out ♪

♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪

♪ And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again ♪

Now you try.

Come on. - Okay.

- Try it. - I'll try it.

- [Sarah] Doesn't that sound fun?

♪ Down came the rain and washed the spider out ♪

♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪

Hey, that was a lot of fun.

- Yeah, let's do it again. - Yeah.

- Hi, everybody.

So what's up?

- A spider, that's what's up.

- Oh, really?

Up where?

- Up on your head.

- Up on my head?

Oh, oh no, oh my, oh, oh.

Can you take him off? - Over here, Barney.

- Oh, okay.

- There, I got I'm down.

- Thank you, Mario.

- Okay, you're welcome.

- I thought you liked spiders.

- Oh, I do, I just don't like them on me.

(children laughing)

- Well, this isn't even a real spider.

I made it out of paper.

- Oh, very nice.

- And I made something out of paper too.

- Oh, hi, Tony. - Hi, Tony.

- Hi Barney, hi guys.

Check out my new kite.

- Wow. - It's a really nice one.

- Yeah, it is.

- Did you make this yourself?

- Uh-huh, with a little help from my dad.

- Can it fly?

- It can fly way up in the sky.

Only not today.

- Why not?

We have a nice breeze.

- But we don't have any string.

- Oh, and you need string to hold

onto your kite when it's flying.

- Right.

- Well, even if you don't have any string

to fly your kite, it can still be fun to pretend.

- Yeah.

(happy playful music)

♪ Flying so high with its tail in the breeze ♪

♪ Up in the air with the greatest of ease ♪

♪ Flipping and dipping with colors so bright ♪

♪ I love to fly my kite

♪ Whirling, twirling, high in the air ♪

- Wow.

♪ Hear the wind blowing it high off the ground ♪

♪ Feel the string tugging, but just hold on tight ♪

♪ And you can fly a kite

♪ Whirling, twirling, high in the air ♪

♪ Whirling, twirling, floating up there ♪

♪ At the end of the string, it's a wonderful thing ♪

♪ I love to fly my kite

- That was so much fun.

- That's neat.

- Say, this really would be a wonderful day

for kite flying.

- Uh huh, sunny and breezy.

Hey, my kite.

- Uh oh, maybe a little too breezy.

- There it goes, up, up, up.

- Oh no.

- And here it comes, down, down, down.

- Oh no.

It's headed right for--

- [Everyone] The tree.

- Oh no, it's stuck.

How will I get it down?

- Well, if one breeze blew it up there

I think another breeze will probably blow it down.

So all we have to do is wait.

- You think so?

- Uh huh.

- [Sarah] Or if you don't want to wait.

- We've got a ladder.

- Oh, that is a good idea.

Ladders are just right for climbing up and down.

Okay, let me help you with this here.

- I hope this works.

- Me too.

- It looks kind of short.

- Maybe it'll seem bigger when you climb up.

- Okay.

- And I'll hold it steady for you Tony.

- Thank you Barney.

- You're welcome.

- Nope, this ladder is too small.

- Maybe we will have to wait for another breeze

to blow it down.

- Oh, and while we're waiting

we can all look around for other things

that are up or down.

(children cheering)

It'll be fun.

And maybe we'll see something

that will give us an idea

to get Tony's kite down.

- [Children] Okay, yeah, great idea.

- Oh that's right, up is up and down is down.


Oh, very good everybody.

That was great.

(slow whimsical music)

- Well, we found a lot of things that are up or down

but I still don't have an idea

of how to get my kite down.

- I guess we'll just have to keep waiting

for another nice big breeze.

- [Children] Yeah.

- I don't know how to get a kite down from a tree

but I do know how to get apples down.

- Really?

- How?

- Once my grandparents took me to visit an orchard.

- A what?

- Oh, an orchard.

It's a special kind of farm

where there are trees

that grow fruit or nuts.

- Oh.

- Right, and at this orchard

people used big machines

that lifted them up, up, up

until they could pick the apples

right off the trees.

- I wish we had one of those machines.

Then we could get my kite.

- That would be handy

and after that we could pick apples

and pears and oranges and cherries.

- I didn't know all those things grew in trees.

- Me either.

- Oh, all sorts of tasty things grow up in trees.

And if we use our imaginations, whoa,

we can pretend to bring them down.

Oh boy.

♪ Apples, peaches, plums, and pears ♪

♪ Maple syrup for a pancake meal ♪

Oh there it is.

There in the tree.

You all did a great job picking fruit from the trees.

This basket is really heavy.

- [Children] Wow.

- You worked so hard reaching up to pick things

I thought it would be nice to sit down

for a picnic.

Help yourselves, there's plenty for everyone.

- [Sarah] Oh thank you Barney.

- [Boy] I got a pear.

- So did everyone get enough to eat?

- [Children] Yeah, thank you Barney.

- I had an orange and a peach.

- I think I had a whole fruit salad.

- We ate everything in the basket

except one last apple.

(apple crunching)

- It sounds like somebody is eating the apple.

- But who?

- [Barney] Baby Bop.

- Wow, oh hi Barney, hi everybody.

- [Barney] Hi.

- Thank you for the yummy apple.

- Oh you're very welcome.

- What are you doing today?

- Well, I was showing everybody my kite

but it got stuck up in the tree.

- Whoa, that's way up there.

- And we've been playing some up and down games

while waiting for the kite to blow back down.

- [Children] Yeah.

- Oh, oh, I know an up and down game.

I do.

We can play London Bridge.

- Oh, that is a good up and down game.

- Oh goody, let's go play.

Oh, wait for me.

I thought of it all by myself.

Up, up, up the stairs.

- Maybe we'll find something in here

that will help us get the kite down.

- I sure hope so.

- And as long as we're looking for things

why don't we play a game of I spy?

- How do you play it Barney?

- Well it's easy.

You see something, you say I spy,

and then you give clues

so everyone can guess what it is.

- Oh goody, let's do that.

- Let's see here.

Oh, I spy something up high.

It has feathers, it goes tweet, tweet, tweet.

Do you know what I see?

- Um, oh, oh I know, I know.

It's that birdie right there.

- That's right Baby Bop.

You found it, great job.

- Now I've got one.

I spy something down low.

It's blue and red and it has wheels.

Do you know what I see?

- I know.

It's this toy truck.

- Right Mario.

- [Barney] Oh yay, Mario way to go.

- Now I've got one.

I spy something up high.

It's got wings but it isn't a bird.

Do you know what I see?

- I see it.

It's got wings but it isn't a bird.

It's this toy airplane.

- Oh yay, oh good job.

Well, I spy some friends

who just might like to go on a make believe airplane flight.

- [Children] Yeah.

- Climb aboard everybody.

Flight number is getting ready

to go up, up, and away.

- Here we go.

♪ Oh we are flying in an airplane ♪

♪ Looking out the window

♪ Watching the clouds go by

♪ Flying in an airplane

♪ Looking out the window

♪ Up so very high

- [Barney] Up so very high.

♪ We can see the wings

♪ And cars so small

♪ It makes me feel like I'm really tall ♪

- Remember our game about the itsy bitsy spider?

Down came the rain and washed the spider out.

- Oh I see, so you think that maybe rain

could wash the kite down too.

- [Kids] Oh.

- Um, um but wouldn't the kite get wet?

- Well, not if it was a very special kind of rain.

- [Baby Bop] Whoa.

- But I don't think my kite is ever coming down Barney.

- I know it seems that way.

There must be something we can do

to get it down.

- But I'm all out of ideas

and right now I need a really good one.

- Then maybe you can think of one right here.

- Yeah, the idea bench.

♪ If it doesn't happen right away ♪

♪ I'll think a little more

♪ I'll sit a little while

♪ Imagine what could be

Oh, I made a leaf fall down.

- That's it, I got an idea.

- [Barney] All right.

- Hey everybody, I know how to get my kite down.

- [Barney] Okay Tony.

- So what's your idea Tony?

- Hopping.

- [Everyone] Hopping?

- Right, when Baby Bop was hopping by herself

she made some leaves fall down.

So maybe if we all hop together

my kite will come down.

- It's worth a try.


- Oh, and I can show you how.

- Oh I see, okay.

- Watch this.

- Whoa.

- [Baby Bop] Oh look.

- I got it, I got it.

(everyone cheering)

- Good job Tony.

- Thank you for helping me get my kite down guys.

I couldn't have done it without you.

- Oh you're welcome Tony.

We all had lots of fun today.

- [Children] Yeah we sure did.

- And besides, it's always nice to help someone you love.
