♪ And when he's tall he's what we call ♪

♪ A dinosaur sensation

♪ Barney's friends are big and small ♪

♪ They come from lots of places ♪

♪ After school they meet to play ♪

♪ And sing with happy faces

♪ Barney shows us lots of things ♪

♪ Like how to play pretend

♪ ABCs, and one two threes

♪ And how to be a friend

♪ Barney comes to play with us

♪ Whenever we may need him

♪ Barney can be your friend too ♪

♪ If you just make-believe him! ♪

(upbeat music)

(birds chirping)

- Wow, I can see way over to the other side of the park.

Here, take a look.

- Oh yeah!

Oh, and there's a pretty bird.

See it? (bird chirruping)

- I can't see, the sun's too bright,

but I can hear it.

- Hi guys.

- [Whitney And Nick] Hi, Beth.

- What are you doing?

- We're looking at things with the telescope.

- Would you like a turn?

- Yes, please.

My dad and I use a telescope to look at the stars at night.

- Well, you can't see the stars in the daytime,

but there are a lot of other neat things to look at.

- [Beth] I see something.

- [Whitney] What is it?

- It's someone very special.

- Who? - Who is it?

- Whoa! (magical music)

- [Children] Barney!

- Oh, hi, everybody.

I see some very special people too.

And there's nothing I like better

than being with my special friends

on such a fun, fun, sunny day.

(upbeat music)

♪ Yes, it's a perfect day for having fun ♪

♪ We'll run and play out in the sun ♪

♪ Let's jump and sing

♪ Can do anything

Oh, that was great.

What else would you like to do on such a beautiful day?

- We could play catch.

- Or a game of tag.

- Or we could... (yawning)

Excuse me, I guess I'm a little tired.

I had some friends over for a sleepover last night.

- Sleep over, what's that?

- That's when you spend the night at a friend's house

or friends sleep over at your house.

Some people call it the slumber party.

- It was a lot of fun.

(Beth yawning)

Excuse me.

- Oh, it looks as if you didn't do

much sleeping at your sleep over Beth.

- You're right, Barney.

We stayed up way past our bedtime.

- Sleepovers can be a lot of fun,

but it's important to get plenty of sleep too.

- I've never been to sleepover.

What did you do?

- Well, I could tell you,

but it might be more fun to show you.

- How?

- I know it's day time,


but we could have a pretend sleepover

in the caboose right now.

- Ah, good idea! (Barney laughing)

- What a good idea!

We can use our imaginations to pretend it's nighttime!

- Yeah, let's go!

- Okay.

Oh, come on, everyone.

So much to do, so much to pretend.

- So what did you do at your sleepover, Beth?

- Well, we play games and read stories

but my favorite part was when watched movies.

My mom made us two big bowls of popcorn.

- Oh boy!

Oh, popcorn is great.

It's almost as much fun to watch it pop, pop, pop

as it is to eat, eat, eat.

- Yes, it sure is. - I love popcorn.

- Maybe we should have some right now.

- Oh, that would be great!

- Oh, here you go.

Ta da! (magical music)

- Wow! - Popcorn!

Wow, look at that! (children applauding)

- [Barney] So good. (laughing) (popcorn popping)

♪ You can smell it

♪ You can eat it

♪ You can hear it, see it, smell it, eat it ♪

♪ Popcorn is really neat

- [Barney] Smell's good too.

♪ The corn starts little, then it pops ♪

♪ To a popping popcorn b*at

♪ Fills the popper to the top

♪ And then it's time to eat

- It was good.

- Thanks for the popcorn, Barney.

- Yeah, thank you. - Thanks a lot.

- You're very welcome.

- I could eat popcorn anytime, day or night.

- [Whitney] Me too.

- Yeah.

- Say, would anyone like to play a guessing game?

- I want to! - Yeah, sure!

- Okay, I'm thinking of something else that you do

during the day and at night.

- Day and night. - Hmm.

- What do I do?

- It's something you do every day after you wake up

and every night before you go to bed.

- [Beth] I can't think.

- What is it? - I wonder what it is.

- It's also something you do after you eat

and it makes up funny sound like this.

(Barney shushing)

- I know what it is, Barney!

We brush our teeth!

- That's right! (triumphant music)

- [Together] Tooth brushes!

- There you go, one for all of you.

(upbeat music) - I need a toothbrush

after eating all that popcorn.

- Me too.

- Then let's get our teeth clean and shiny.

- [Together] Okay!

- That's right, we'll make them nice and clean.

(Barney singing)

♪ Oh, I'm brushing my teeth on top ♪

♪ It's so much fun, I hate to stop ♪

♪ But while I'm brushing my teeth and having so much fun ♪

- Ho ho, that's right!

- Brushing your teeth is very important.

Show me how you brush your teeth.

- Oh no we don't!

(Barney laughing) (Beth laughing)

- Are your teeth nice and clean?

- Yeah, Barney. - They sure are.

- [Barney] Good.

(happy music)

Oh.

- Excuse me.

- Since you're so tired, maybe you should go to bed.

- But it's day time.

- Well, I could use a short nap.

- Yeah, me too. - Me too.

- We do sleep longer at night, but during the day,

a short nap is a great way to get some rest.

Now, just snuggling it real comfy.

I'll turn off the light and be very quiet

so you can all get some rest.

Turn this off here.

Tiptoe away.

(slide whistle blowing)

Whoa! (Barney crashing)

Oops, sorry.

It's a little hard to see in here.

- That's okay, Barney.

- I won't make another sound.

(car horn honking)

(car engine rumbling)

- Hey, I can hear cars going by outside.

(children laughing)

- And I can hear kids playing in the park.

(birds singing) (uplifting music)

- And I hear birds singing.

- You can hear lots of interesting sounds in the daytime

and different sounds at night.

I can hear...

(Baby Bop giggling)

Baby Bop giggling!

- [Together] Baby Bop giggling?

- Oh! (laughing)

Hi, guys! - Hi!

- Hi BJ, hi, Baby Bop. - Hello!

- We saw that the lights were off

and we wondered what was going on.

- We were going to take a nap,

but we ended up listening

to all the neat sounds in the daytime.

- Oh, cool.

- Well, I've already had my nap for today,

but I could help you listen.

I'm a very good listener.

(Baby Bop giggling)

♪ We can listen to the sound of the frog in the water ♪

♪ Listen to a mommy talking to her daughter ♪

♪ Listen to the animals playing in the woods ♪

♪ And listen to the sounds of our neighborhood ♪

♪ And listen to the sounds of our neighborhood ♪

♪ Listen to the sounds of the day and night ♪

(birds singing) (children laughing)

- That's right!

♪ We can listen to the sound of a train going by ♪

♪ Hear the parade on the Fourth of July ♪

♪ Listen to the animals playing in the woods ♪

♪ And listen to the sounds of our neighborhood ♪

(dog barking) (children laughing)

♪ If we try to listen with our eyes and nose ♪

♪ We get all mixed up and never hear a thing ♪

♪ We couldn't hear a bell ringing ding, ding, ding ♪

- That's right! (laughing)

- I didn't realize there's so many different sounds

during the daytime.

- Oh, well, you'd be surprised at what you hear


when you take some time to stop and listen.

- The daytime has lots of things to see too.

- Well, the night has lots to see.

Sometimes, my dad and I go outside to look at the stars.

- Ooh, I want to see the stars.

- Oh, you can't see the stars in the daytime, sissy.

You can only see 'em at night.

- Well, if we try, we can imagine that it's nighttime.

- We can, we can. - Oh yeah!

- Let's close our eyes.

- [Baby Bop] Okay.

- Now imagine that the sun is setting

and the sky is getting darker.

(peaceful music)

The air is a little cooler now.

The birds have gone to sleep,

and the crickets are waking up.

Now, open your eyes. (crickets chirping)

- Ooh! - Wow!

- It is nighttime!

- And look, there are the stars!

- Oh, cool.

Whoa, there's the moon too!

- [Nick] Oh, whoa!

- Look Barney, that star looks like it's winking at us.

- Oh, I see it.

But I think it looks more like it's twinkling.

♪ Twinkle twinkle little star

♪ How I wonder what you are

♪ Up above the world so high

♪ Like a diamond in the sky

(Barney laughing)

- [Baby Bop] Wow.

(magical music) - Look,

there's a sh**ting star!

- Whoa! - Cool!

- When you see a sh**ting star,

it's fun to close your eyes and make a wish.

("Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" instrumental)

(owl hooting)

- Barney.

- [Barney] Hmm?

- Where do the stars go when it's daytime?

- There still in the sky, but we can see them

because the sun shines so brightly.

- Um, Barney?

- Yes, Baby Bop?

- Stars are supposed to be up in the sky, right?

- That's right.

- And not down near the ground.

- Oh, you're absolutely right, Baby Bop.

Stars are up in the ground, not down near the ground.

- Well then, I think you better tell those stars over there,

They must be lost.

- Hey, look! (children exclaiming)

- [Baby Bop] See, look at 'em.

- Oh, those aren't stars, sissy.

Those are lightening bugs.

- [Baby Bop] Lighting bugs?

(BJ laughing)

- No, sissy, lightening bugs.

- Oh, lightening bugs, oh!

- Some people call them fireflies.

They come out at night, fly around

and twinkle just like little stars.

♪ Twinkle little lightening bug, twinkle ♪

♪ Twinkle little lightening bug for me ♪

♪ Twinkle little lightening bug all through the night ♪

♪ Your twinkles are so special to me ♪

- Oh look, everybody!

Isn't it cute? (laughing)

♪ Your glimmers are so special to me ♪

♪ Your sparkles are so special to me ♪

♪ Your twinkles are so special to me ♪

(Barney laughing)

- [Baby Bop] Oh, bye bye little lightening bugs!

- [BJ] Bye! (children laughing)

- [Barney] Bye!

(owl hooting)

- Oh, oh, what was that?

- It sounded like an owl.

- An owl?

Well, why isn't it sleeping?

- Well, an owl is a bird that sleeps during the day.


And is awake at night.

Animals who do that are called nocturnal.

- Not turtles?

(BJ laughing)

- No, sissy, nocturnal.

- That's right.

If you listen carefully,

you can hear the sounds of nocturnal animals all around us.

(crickets chirping)

- I hear crickets chirping.

(frogs croaking) - Whoa,

I hear some frogs!

They're saying, "Ribbit.

Ribbit."

(children laughing)

- Oh, oh I hear the frogs too.

The ones that are not turtles.

- Sissy, the word is nocturnal.

- I know, nocturnal.

But frogs are not turtles either.

(everybody laughing) - Oh boy.

(owl hooting)

- There's the owl again.

- Where is it?

- Well, maybe we could use these to look for it.

(magical music)

- Wow! - Awesome!

- [Baby Bop] Oh, look.

- Here you go, Baby Bop.

- Thank you. - I've got a spare one.

- Okay, now let's look and listen very carefully,

and maybe we can find it.

♪ Listen to the nighttime

♪ You can hear the wind a-whistling ♪

♪ You can hear the froggies singing ♪

(wind whistling) (owl hooting)

- But what do you mean, who?

It's me, Baby Bop. (laughing)

Oh, hey everybody, I found the owl!

Hurry, over here! (laughing)

- [Barney] That's great!

- Sh, sh. - Oh, where is it?

- Look.

- Oh. - Oh, way to go, Sissy,

you found it!

- It's pretty.

- Look at those big eyes.

- [Nick] And those big ears.

- [Barney] Those aren't really ears, Nick,

they're feathers called ear tufts.

- Hello, owl! (laughing)

Didn't your other bird friends come out to play?

- [Barney] Most other birds sleep at night, like we do,

and come out during the day, Baby Bop.

- So in the daytime, the other pretty birds come out.

- And the owl and all the crickets go to sleep.

- [Baby Bop] Oh.

- The sun brightens the sky,

and everyone wakes up, gets dressed, and has breakfast.

- [Baby Bop] Mm, breakfast sounds good.

- It does.

- I am kinda hungry.

(cockerel crowing)

- [Whitney] Hey, it's daytime again.

- I can't see the stars anymore.

- But I can hear the birds singing again.

- And it's a lot warmer now.

- That's because the sun is shining down on us once again.

Oh, hello, Mr. Sun!

♪ Hello sun

♪ Sun, the day's begun

♪ When you shine bright, we have fun ♪

♪ The sun is warm, the sun makes light ♪

♪ When the sun goes down, it's time to say goodnight ♪

♪ Fun, fun for everyone

- Oh, do you like to have fun in the sun?

Why don't you show me how?

♪ When the sun comes out, the rain goes away ♪

♪ The sun's so bright, don't look him in the eye ♪

- There they go.

- That was fun, Barney.

- Yeah, it sure was. - Yeah.

- Uh huh!

- There are a lot of differences between day and night,

and I think we found lots of ways to enjoy both of them.

- I didn't know there was so much to do at night.

- I usually just sleep.

- Yeah, when you're not up asking me for a drink of water.

- Well, I get thirsty sometimes.

- Hey sissy, since it's morning,

I say we go have a big breakfast.

- Oh goody, can we have pancakes?

- Sure.

- And waffles?

- Okay.

- And peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?

- Peanut better and jelly? (Barney laughing)

For breakfast?

- Why not?

- Yeah, why not. (upbeat music)

Come on, sissy.

- Bye, everybody.

- Bye! - Bye, Baby Bop.

See you, BJ! - Bye bye, BJ!

- [Barney] Bye bye, see you later!

- [Nick] Bye!

Barney?

- Yes, Nick?

- When we saw the sh**ting star, what was your wish?

- Well, I didn't make a wish.

- You didn't?

- Why not?

- Because I already have my wish.

To spend time with the people I love, day or night.

(Barney laughing)

- I'm going to ask my grandparents

to look at the stars with me tonight.

Bye bye, I had fun today.
