♪ Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination ♪

♪ And when he's tall, he's what we call a dinosaur sensation ♪

(cheerful music) (girl giggles)

♪ Barney's friends are big and small ♪

♪ They come from lots of places ♪

♪ After school they meet to play and sing with happy faces ♪

♪ Barney shows us lots of things like how to play pretend ♪

♪ A B C's and one two three's and how to be a friend ♪

♪ Barney comes to play with us whenever we may need him ♪

♪ Barney can be your friend too ♪

♪ If you just make believe him. ♪

(cheerful, carefree music) (birds chirping)

- It's fun painting you, Barney, you're such a pretty color.

It's a good thing I have plenty of purple paint. (chuckles)

There, I'm done with purple.

There's just one more thing, so hold still.

(twinkling music)

(Barney giggles)

- Hello Sarah.

- Barney!

- It's good to see you. (laughs)

Mm.

Um, do I really have to hold still?

- (laughs) That's okay, Barney, I'm almost done.

You wanna take a look?

- Oh, I'd love to. (giggles)

Let's see.

Oh, what a nice painting.

Is it a picture of me?

- Uh huh, but it won't really look like you

until I give you a big smile.

- Oh, you're right about that, Sarah.

Wherever I go, I like to wear a great big smile.

♪ Early in the morning when I get dressed ♪

♪ Because I always want to look my best ♪

♪ The first thing I do, so everyone will see ♪

♪ Is put a great big smile on me ♪

(Barney chuckles)

♪ I put a smile on, a smile on my face ♪

(chuckles) Oh, it's true.

(Barney laughs)

And that makes me very happy. (laughs)

- Now it looks like you, Barney.

- Oh, I think your picture is super-de-duper.

- [Sarah] Oh thanks.

- Oh. - Hi Sarah,

hi Barney. - Hi Nick.

- Wait Nick-- - Wait a minute, Nick.

Oh wait, oh. (easel clatters)

Oh.

- Oops, I'll get it for you.

- Oh, hm.

- [Nick] Barney, you look funny in this picture.

- He wasn't supposed to look funny.

- Are you mad at me, Sarah?

- Well, look what you did to my picture.

- I'm sorry, it was an accident.

- I know, but it still makes me angry.

- It's okay to feel angry, Sarah.

Oh, anger is one of your feelings,

just like feeling happy or sad.

- But I don't like being angry.

- Well, why don't you tell Nick why you're angry,

that might help.

- You knocked over my picture and now it's all messed up

and I was making it for Barney.

- Oh.

Could I help you paint another one?

- Well, I guess so.

- (chuckles) If you paint another picture,

I could pose like this. (laughs)

- I like it better when you smile, Sarah.

When you were mad, you looked like this.

- (laughs) Well how do I look now?

- You look happy.

- (chuckles) Oh, sometimes the way you look on the outside

shows everyone how you feel on the inside. (laughs)

♪ I can tell what you're feeling by the look on your face ♪

♪ Each and every feeling has its time and its place ♪

♪ But feeling mad or sad should only last a little while ♪

♪ So happiness can fill your heart ♪

♪ And give you back your smile

(chuckles) Oh now it's your turn.

Can you show me your happy face? (chuckles)

♪ Sometimes I feel happy and that's just fine with me ♪

♪ I think feeling happy is my favorite way to be ♪

♪ You can tell I'm happy by the smile on my face ♪


♪ Yes sometimes I feel happy, you can see it on my face ♪

(chuckles) Now can you show me

what your face looks like when you get angry?

♪ Sometimes I feel angry

♪ Some things make me mad

♪ I get so upset whenever someone treats me bad ♪

♪ You can tell I'm angry by the frown on my face ♪

♪ Yes sometimes I feel angry

♪ You can see it on my face

(laughs) Oh my.

♪ I can tell what you're feeling by the look on your face ♪

♪ Each and every feeling has its time and its place ♪

♪ But feeling mad or sad should only last a little while ♪

♪ So happiness can fill your heart ♪

♪ And give you back your smile

♪ Yes I can tell what you're feeling ♪

(humming) (laughs)

- Now that I'm not angry anymore,

this is pretty funny. (chuckles)

Let's put everything away.

We can paint another one later.

- Okay, I'll help you.

- That's very nice of you, Nick.

(children chattering) We have everything.

Oh, hi there. (chuckles)

- Barney! - Oh hi Jacqueline,

hi Matthew, how are you doing today?

- Fine Barney.

- Oh good.

- Hi Barney.

- Oh well what's wrong, Whitney?

I can tell by the look on your face

that you're not very happy.

- One of the kids at school drew on my new book bag.

See, and now it's ruined.

- Oh, oh.

- I think she's really mad, Barney.

- Oh, I can see that.

I'd better go talk to her.

- Bye Barney, see you later. - Bye Jacqueline.

Bye Matthew, it was good to see you.

I'm sorry about your book bag, Whitney.

- I just got it and now it's all messed up.

- [Together] Oh hi, Whitney.

- [Whitney] Hi guys.

- Is that your new book bag?

- Yes, but now it's ruined. (door thumps)

- Oh, that's too bad.

- I'm so mad, I could hit something!

- Well Whitney, it's never okay to hit anyone or anything.

Let's see if we can do something to help you feel better.

- Sometimes I play a game when I get mad.

- I talk to my stuffed animals.

- Those are both good ideas.

- Let's go find something.

- Okay. - All right. (chuckles)

- [Whitney] Let's go.

- How about this?

- (laughs) Oh wow.

- [Sarah] I like green, this is cool.

- Hey, this clay is great.

- All right, this is one way to help you feel better.

Maybe we'll think of some more ways today.

- No it isn't, you don't even know how to play baseball.

- Then I don't like baseball.

- Oh yeah, well you wanna know what I don't like?


- What?

- (muttering) I don't know yet, but I'll think of something.

Now give me back my bat!

- Well B.J., Baby Bop, why are you two so angry?

- Oh hi Barney.

- Hi Barney. - Hi guys.

- Hi everybody. - Hi Baby Bop, hi B.J.

- Oh we're having a little problem.

- Oh, what kind of problem?

(talking over each other)

Whoa whoa, let's slow down a little.

(talking over each other more slowly)

Oh, oh my. (laughs)

- I think Barney means you need to stop yelling.

- [Together] Oh.

- Why don't you both take a deep breath and count to .

(pair inhaling)

- [Together] One,

two,

three,

four,

five,

six-- - Mmhmm.

- What comes next, B.J.?

- Seven, Sissy.

- Oh, thank you. (laughs)

Seven, and then what?

- Eight,

nine,

.

We're done.

- Now tell each other how you feel.

- Oh it makes me mad when you don't follow the rules, Sissy.

- But B.J., it makes me mad when you tell me what to do

and you don't share.

- Okay, now you know what makes each of you feel angry.

So let's think of some ways to help you feel better.

(B.J. grumbles) ♪ Sometimes

♪ everybody gets real mad

♪ It's even true for your mom and dad ♪

♪ So if that feeling gets hold of you ♪

♪ Tell me some things that you might do ♪

(cheerful music)

♪ Sometimes I run, I jump up and down ♪

♪ I color with black and red

♪ Or I might hold tight to an old stuffed animal ♪

♪ Mines a monkey named Fred

- Oh. (giggles)

♪ Then I talk about my feelings with a friend ♪

♪ Or my teacher or my mom or dad ♪

♪ And after I do, it seems to be true ♪

♪ That I don't feel so bad

♪ I talk about my feelings when I'm mad ♪

Oh, that's the idea. (laughs)

- Oh yeah, how about this?

♪ I make a fist or stamp my feet ♪

♪ Or shout with lots of power, oh! ♪

♪ Or I sing a song that's fast and loud ♪

♪ Once I sang for a half an hour ♪

♪ La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la! (gasps) ♪

♪ Then I talk about my feelings with a friend ♪

- Really?

I think I need to sing fast and loud.

(Barney laughs)

- Oh please, don't let her do that.

- I think maybe you should try something else, Baby Bop.

- Yeah, something quieter.

- Does anyone have an idea?

- I do, I think B.J. should say he's sorry.

- Me?

You should say you're sorry.

- Maybe it would help if I tell you a story

about three bears and a little girl

who made them very angry.

- You mean "Goldilocks and the Three Bears?"

- Oh, that's right. (laughs)

(everyone talking)

I like this story. (chuckles)

Once upon a time, there were three happy bears,

Papa Bear,

Mama Bear,

and Baby Bear.

- Oh. (giggles)

- One day,

Mama Bear made a delicious porridge for breakfast,

but there was one little problem.

- Uh oh. - It's hot, hot, hot.


- Why don't we take a walk and let it cool down a little?

- I wanna walk all the way over the mountain.

- All right. - Okay, let's go.

(cheerful music)

♪ The bears went over the mountain ♪

♪ The bears went over the mountain ♪

♪ The bears went over the mountain to take a little walk ♪

♪ Their porridge was too hot

♪ So they went for a walk

♪ The bears went over the mountain ♪

♪ The bears went over the mountain ♪

♪ The bears went over the mountain to take a little walk ♪

(cheerful music)

- While they were gone,

a little girl named Goldilocks

discovered the three bear's house.

The door was wide open, so she went right in

and took a look around.

When Goldilocks saw the three porridge bowls,

her tummy started to rumble.

- I know I shouldn't, but I'm so hungry.

- She ate a big spoonful of Papa Bear's porridge.

- Uh oh. - Oh.

- Yikes, this is too hot.

- Then she tried Mama Bear's bowl.

- Oh, it's too cold.

- But when she tried Baby Bear's bowl--

- Ah, this is just right.

- Goldilocks ate Baby Bear's porridge until--

- Uh oh, it's all gone.

Now I need to sit down, I'm really full.

- Goldilocks went into the next room

where she found three chairs.

First she tried Papa Bear's chair.

- [Whitney] This is too hard.

- She tried Mama Bear's chair.

- This is too soft.

- But when she tried Baby Bear's chair--

- [Whitney] Ah, this is just right.

- Goldilocks bounced on Baby Bear's chair so hard,

that she broke it all to pieces.

- Oh. - Uh oh,

I should try to fix this chair, but I'm too sleepy.

- Goldilocks went into the next room

where she found three beds.

She tried Papa Bear's bed.

- [Whitney] This is too lumpy.

- She tried Mama Bear's bed.

- [Whitney] Whoa, whoa, this is too bouncy.

- Then she tried Baby Bear's bed.

- Ah, this is just right.

I'll stay here for a (yawns) a little bit.

- Goldilocks fell fast asleep.

But while she was dreaming,

(cheerful music)

♪ The bears came back from the mountian ♪

♪ The bears came back from the mountain ♪

♪ The bears came back from the mountain ♪

♪ To have a bite to eat

♪ To have a bite to eat and rest their tired feet ♪

♪ The bears came back from the mountain ♪

♪ The bears came back from the mountain ♪

♪ To have a bite to eat

(cheerful music)

When the three bears came back from their walk,

they went inside to eat their breakfast

- [Together] Uh oh.

- Someone's been eating my porridge.

- Someone's been eating my porridge.

- Someone's been eating my porridge

and they ate it all up.

- [Together] That makes us angry.

- The three bears went to the next room

to sit in their favorite chairs.

- [Sarah] (gasps) Someone's been sitting in my chair.

- [Whitney] Someone's been sitting in my chair.

- [Nick] Someone's been sitting in my chair

and they broke it all to pieces.

- [Together] That makes us very angry.

- By now, the three bears were grumpy and tired.

They went to their bedroom to take a nap.

- Someone's been sleeping in my bed.

- Someone's been sleeping in my bed.

- Someone's been sleeping in my bed

and she's still there!

- [Together] That makes us very, very angry.

- [Sarah] When I'm angry, I know I shouldn't hit.

- [Whitney] I know I shouldn't scream.

- [Nick] And I know I shouldn't say mean things.

- [Together] Then what are we going to do?

- [Nick] I know, let's exercise.

♪ Exercise by running fast, running fast, running fast ♪

♪ Running can be a lot of fun, now we feel much better ♪

(cheerful music) (Barney laughs)

♪ Exercise by hopping around, hopping around, hopping around ♪

♪ Hopping like a kangaroo, now we feel much better ♪

(everyone singing)

♪ Exercise by reaching high, reaching high, reaching high ♪

♪ Stretching up to touch the sky ♪


- Oh, oh. (laughs)

♪ Now we feel much better.

Oh boy. - Oh yeah.

- I do feel much better.

- Now what should we do?

- I know!

I'll use my words to tell her how I feel.

Little girl with the yellow hair, wake up.

- [Whitney] What, where?

Who are you?

- [Nick] I'm Baby Bear and you ate my porridge,

broke my chair and messed up my bed

and that wasn't very nice.

- [Whitney] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make a mess.

I'll help you cook more porridge,

fix your chair and make your bed.

- And Goldilocks did just that.

In fact, Baby Bear and Goldilocks became good friends.

The end.

- All right! - Oh,

Barney, thank you for the story.

I really liked it.

- Ah, me too.

- (laughs) Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

- I guess we better pick these things up.

- Okay. - Oh, I'll help.

- Me too.

- Oh, that's very nice. (chuckles)

(Barney humming) - Hey Nick, look at this.

- What?

- I think I know a way to fix Whitney's book bag.

- Really, how?

- Can we take that off and we sew it onto the backpack.

- Sissy, there's something I wanna say to you.

- What?

- Oh, I think you're the best little sister ever

and I'm sorry if I was bossy.

- And I'm sorry too, you're my best big brother.

- Aw, but Sissy, (chuckles) I'm your only big brother.

- And you're the best.

- (laughs) Everyone gets angry now and then.

(chuckles) But it's a lot more fun to be happy.

- [Together] Sure is.

- You're right. - Yeah.

(clapping hands)

(everyone laughs)

- Oh, oh brother, not that again.

- Oh B.J. (laughs)

- Come on, Sissy, let's play.

I should tell my mom about my book bag.

Nick and I have something we want to show you.

Look.

- [Whitney] Isn't that Baby Bear's little bib?

- Yes and we thought maybe it could be a patch

to cover the marks on your book bag.

- We can have my mom sew it on.

What do you think?

- I think it's just right.

Thank you.

- [Together] You're welcome.

- Oh, (giggles) I think your book bag

will be better than ever.

And every time you look at it,

you'll remember how much your friends care,

just like I care about all of you.
