♪ Barney's friends are big and small. ♪

♪ They come from lots of places. ♪

♪ After school, they meet to play ♪

♪ and sing with happy faces. ♪

♪ Barney shows us lots of things, ♪

♪ like how to play pretend, ♪

♪ ABCs and --s and how to be a friend. ♪

♪ Barney comes to play with us whenever we may need him. ♪

Oh, hello.

I'm so happy to see you that I feel like dancing.

Do you like to dance?

Oh, hello, Stacy.

What game are you playing?

We're playing "Simon says."

You can only move when you hear "Simon says."

That's one of my favorite games.

May I play, too?

( All Agreeing )

Would you like a turn being Simon?

Oh! Well, that would be great.

Now, let's see.

Simon says reach up to the sky as high as you can.

( Barney Chuckling )

Simon says wiggle this way.

( Barney Chuckling )

Simon says wiggle that way.

KidsOkay, yeah.

Oh, stop wiggling.

We can't!

Simon didn't say so!

Well, then, Simon says let's wiggle some more.

♪ A gaggle of giggling, wiggling geese ♪

♪ came galloping through the grass ♪

♪ on their way to the farmer's house ♪

♪ to teach a ballet class. ♪

♪ And there before their very eyes ♪

♪ stood every animal♪

♪ cows, pigs, sheep, chicks, and even Mr. Bull! ♪

All♪ To do the gaggling, giggling wiggle, ♪

♪ come on, here's your chance! ♪

♪ So start by putting hands together. ♪

DavidOh, look at the cute ducks.

( Kids Admiring Ducks )

BarneyWatch how they move.

They do a little wiggle.

And they waddle.

KamiThey flap their wings.

StacyAnd shake their tails.

BarneyIt looks fun.

Why don't we do what the duckies do?

( Kids Agreeing )

Will you join us?

We can wiggle and quack just like ducks.

Come on.

(♪ Music Begins )

♪ Who knows how to paddle all around the pond? ♪

♪ Quack, quack, quack-- the duckies do ♪

♪ Who knows how to waddle all around the lawn? ♪

I think it's neat that ducks can do so many different things.

Oh, you're right, David.

Ducks wiggle...

waddle...

walk, swim and fly.

Oh, and quack, of course.

( Kids Laugh )

I wonder what they are quacking about?

Maybe they're telling us something.

Maybe they're hungry.

Oh, can we please feed them, Barney?

I think that's a good idea.

Mr. Boyd has some duck food in the tool shed

for our feathered friends.

Let's go get it!

Okay.

Did you have fun moving like a duck?

Oh...me, too.

I like the way ducks can swim in the water

and people can also swim.

Some of my friends are swimming right now.

Would you like to see them play in the water?

Sometimes it's fun to play a game in the water.

A beach ball makes a great water toy.

Or you can play ring toss.

It's fun to swim to the bottom of the pool

and pick up rings.

Lots of swimming pools have slides

and this one goes around and around.

When you get to the bottom, you can make a big splash.

Oh, it's fun to swim underwater.

And it's fun to splash on top.

When you're swimming, be sure to have a grownup nearby.

Swimming is a great way to get moving.

Oh, you bet.

There's also walking...

running...

jumping...

( All Boing )

and, of course, dancing.

Oh, ooh--I like to dance.

Do you?

Oh, goody.

Well, let's dance together.

Would you like to dance like a dinosaur?

We can show you how to do it.

Baby Bop, you can show our friends

the first part of the dance

because I know it's something you really like to do.

Uh-huh--hop!

First you hop like this.

Hop, hop, hop, hop-- oh, that's good.

Hop, hop, hop.

That's good, everybody.

Now it's your turn, BJ.

What comes next?

Well, you shake your dino-tail, like this.

( Dinosaurs Giggling )

That's great.

And now for the fancy footwork.

Do a little twisting...

and turning...whoa!

( All Exclaiming )

And the most important part is to have fun.

♪ It's a lot of fun and we all hope... ♪

All♪ First you hop, hop, hop

♪ All over the place. ♪

Baby BopThat's it!

All♪ Shake your dino-tail ♪

We fed the ducks.

And now we're running races.

Kami won this time.

BarneyOh, great job, Kami.

( Laughing ) Hi, everybody.

AllHi, BJ.

I'm racing Sissy, and it looks like I won!

( Baby Bop Panting )

Oh, hi...hi, Barney.

Hi, everybody.

( All Greeting Baby Bop )

You won again, BJ.

I'm so slow, I'll never win a race.

Baby Bop, have you ever heard about the race

in the story called, "The Tortoise and the Hare?"

Um, no, Barney.

( Kids Talking Excitedly )

Would you like to hear it?

Yeah!

Sure.

I always love a good story.

Me, too, Sissy.

Well, this story is about a race between a tortoise...

( Everyone Exclaiming )

KamiLook at that tortoise shell!

And a hare.

Whoa!

( All Exclaiming )

Those are some big ears.

Oh, look at the tortoise

and the hare.

Kami, would you please help me tell this story?

Sure, Barney.

Oh, great!

Let's go to the starting line.

AllWhat?

Oh, the starting line!

( Everyone Exclaiming )

Now, once upon a time, there was a tortoise and a hare.

The tortoise moved very slowly

everywhere she went.

And the hare moved very fast.

(♪ Fast Music Playing )

One day, the hare asked the tortoise if she wanted to race.

So, tortoise, how about a race?

First one around the park wins.

Sure, I'll race you, Hare.

The hare was certain that he would win.

I'm the fastest animal in the park.

And I'm the slowest, it's true.

So the race began.

On your mark, get set...

go!

Oh, the hare moved very quickly.

And the tortoise moved very slowly.

Come on, Tortoise,

you're going to have to move faster than that.

The hare was very proud, and he liked to show off.

Baby BopWow! Oh, he's really fast.

The hare showed off so much that he tired himself out.

KamiAnd he had to stop and rest.

( Yawns )

That tortoise moves so slowly,

I'll have enough time to take a nap and still win the race.

KamiThe hare fell fast asleep,

while the tortoise kept going-- slowly but surely.

Baby BopLooky, looky, the tortoise is winning!


BarneyThe hare kept on sleeping,

while the tortoise moved slowly toward the finish line.

Excuse me, Hare, it's time

to wake up now.

( Mumbling )

Wake up--

you're going to lose the race!

Oh! The race!

Oh...oh, man!

But the hare was too late.

And the tortoise wins!

Oh, goody! Yay!

The slow tortoise won the race.

And the tortoise proved

that even though she wasn't the fastest animal in the park,

slow and steady can sometimes win the race.

The end.

( Kids Cheering )

That was a good story, Barney.

I'm glad you liked it.

Hey, let's have another race now.

Good idea, BJ.

Who would like to run in a race where everybody wins?

( Kids Clamoring )

Um...what kind of race are you talking about, Barney?

Well, it's the kind of race where you run in one place.

Let's try it.

Okay, yeah!

We're going to run, but before we do,

warming up is important, too.

Squat right down like an old bullfrog.

Stretch your legs before you jog.

Stretch...stretch...stretch...

stretch.

Now stand.

(♪ Music Begins )

♪ Run, run in one place ♪

♪ Run in the pretend race ♪

♪ Start off very slow ♪

♪ Soon you'll see how fast we'll go! ♪

All♪ Run, run, pick up speed ♪

♪ Exercise is what we need ♪

♪ Stay with the music's b*at ♪

♪ Keep the rhythm with your feet. ♪

( Kids Exclaiming )

♪ Run, run, let's go fast ♪

♪ Run, run, it's a blast ♪

♪ One, two, lift your knees ♪

♪ You can almost feel the breeze. ♪

All right!

( Solo ) ♪ Run, run, you're doing fine ♪

♪ Run across the finish line ♪

♪ Don't give up, it won't be long ♪

♪ Till we end our running song ♪

♪ Run, run, run, run, now stop! ♪

All♪ Stretch, stretch, way up high ♪

♪ Reach up to the sky ♪

♪ Take a breath, we've had such fun ♪

♪ Now our pretend race is done. ♪♪

Oh, that was fun.

I liked that race.

I think I need to do some more stretching.

( Chattering )

I think I've done enough running for today, though.

Swimming and playing in the water is good exercise

and fun for the whole family.

is an exercise you can do almost anywhere.

Learning to move in new ways

can help make children more physically confident,

so encourage your children

to have fun dancing and exercising.
