welcome to the world of amazing
rainforest animals this is bad this is
very bad
what's the matter Henry disaster how
about it chocolate wow what a
catastrophe I think you've probably had
enough already you can never have enough
chocolate there's gotta be more around
here somewhere
you won't find any in there although
they do come from the same place the
chocolate comes from where the factory
no chocolate comes from a plant in the
rainforest well what are we waiting for
Hey
suddenly everything went green we
realize you could be almost anywhere
Central America Southeast Asia West
Africa Australia rainforests grow
wherever the climate is always warm and
there is plenty of rain but this place
isn't wet cancel that rain forests are
very wet though I say in fact they have
at least 60 inches of rain a year that's
enough to bury a grown man up to his
neck in water that's way over my head
most things are Henry but all that water
doesn't fall at once it slowly drains
through the trees and into the rivers
enough water comes out of the Amazon
River alone for everyone in the world to
have a bath every hour
[Applause]
rainforest animals must be very clean
and pretty wrinkly do at least those
parrots didn't have to line up for the
shower but that's true because there are
a lot of different animals here
rainforests have a greater variety of
animals than anywhere else in the world
no kidding
they must really love it here you know
even though it's wet it feels so healthy
that's because there are so many plants
here and plants actually make all the
oxygen we breathe the rainforests are
known as the lungs of the world well I'm
not gonna breathe easier until I found
me a chocolate plant no Henry Henry
where are you take me till your
chocolate that Python can't help you
Henry you're at the very top of the
trees the chocolate is way down below
you oh yeah whoa okay maybe I'll stay do
a while there may not be any chocolate
but there are a lot of other interesting
things in the rainforest canopy
hmm not really they're not interesting
don't be so sure the rain and the warmth
mean that there are more plants and
animals in the rainforest canopy
ever imagine over half the world's plant
and animal species live in the tropical
rainforest not species I hate getting
wet having so much rain is essential up
here in the canopies where there are no
lakes or rivers so they store it in
cloaks just take a look some plants have
evolved to collect water like this
bromelia animals use these to drink Shan
Shan even live in cool a swimming pool
on steps whoa it's an umbrella / looks
like he ate something that disagreed
with there sure are a lot of weird and
wonderful creatures up here noisy - it
is a bit yes
[Music]
I guess it's like the rain he just gets
used to it rain traffic noise we might
as well miss downtown Louisville
Micanopy why not go down to the ground
at least there's no danger of falling
off some canopy animals never visit the
ground they spend their entire lives up
here because they're so well adapted to
life in the trees many of them have
grasping hands and fruiting tails to
help them get around and instead of
roads they use branches to get from A to
B hey where's that banana nosed rat
going that's not a rat it's a 2-man juoh
a kind of anteater and that's a tree
porcupine both in a hurry hey someone
tell that guy this is a one-way branch
and someone else wants to go the other
way maybe it's a traffic jam hey Becky
guy no reversing down a one-way street
you can get a ticket for that
a long way down isn't it how are you
going to get to the forest or your more
than 10 stories up exactly what I do in
the building take the elevator
oh that isn't an elevator Henry who
cares place ship it's going down all
furnishings and lemur curiouser wonder
who lives out there okay going down on
the forest floor are you okay oh where
the chocolate is right right then I'm
okay Oh was I really all the way up
there
you sure were some of those trees are as
high as an office building no wonder
those canopy animals don't come down
it's like a different way down here it
really is with very different animals
and it's a lot darker yep the treetops
are really thick they block out nearly
99% of all the sunlight whoa spooky that
is anything grow with great difficulty
well it looks like those leaves are
moving out no they're being carried by
leaf cutter ants the ants take the
leaves back to their enormous
underground colonies then chew them up
into a compost on which they grow their
favorite food fungus you have to be on
the forest floor Henry
Oh yep the Jaguar the biggest predator
in the Amazon jungle he's not gonna
leave a little treat porcupine is he I
love that porcupine I don't think so
Oh No watch out Finn unless you want to
be porkchop
it's a peccary Henry but I get your
point
oh not those cute little guys kawauti is
Henry cloudy babies the two little to
become Jaguars smack phone whew that was
close so what is the Jaguar hunting wait
and see
Oh what he's going swimming
not quite Henry fishing but I got cats
hating water not this cat Jaguars will
eat most animals on the forest floor but
this time all he wants is a nice juicy
fish can I a fries and ketchup with that
please
and Henry Henry it's time for your news
report what now yes now and in my way
journalist earth coming through
identical designer had embarrassment at
most party and bubble gum chewing
competition giraffe wins by a neck
[Music]
[Music]
but now our top story the strike among
rainforest animals has ended after all
I'll talk for two weeks the snakes have
refused to bite anyone the bats have
suspended all tent making activities and
the crocodiles haven't eaten a single
tourist even the sloths have been
staging a slowdown though no one noticed
the animals were protesting their
flooded working conditions following
Juma trained in the rainforest
more from our reporter on the scene well
Henry conditions here are worsening by
the minute the water levels in the
forest continue to rise cutting off
traffic didn't they bought it
you couldn't even give it away Henry
what's
some parts of the Amazon rainforest do
fly yes see I was right about one thing
and one thing only him rain in the Andes
Mountains is so heavy that it floods
low-lying rainforests sometimes you can
only see the very tops of the trees
above water and the floods stay for up
to eight months of the year yeah and I
bet the animals hate it they adapt Henry
they don't go on strike it means that
land animals have to get around by
swimming take this tape here for example
it's a distant cousin of the horse and
not only has it learned to swim it often
hides from danger by staying underwater
for several minutes that's easy
if you've got a built-in snorkel for a
nose maybe but I don't see any
lifejacket helping this snake to stay
afloat rainforest animals cope very well
in the flooded conditions but they're
not the only animals living here the
flooded forests are a temporary home for
animals which normally live in the
rivers here there is more food to them
to eat hey that's no good and lunch will
be all soggy but it will make great fish
food excuse me
fish here in the forest
whoa what was that it's an era wanna
Henry it can leap up to two meters out
of the water to catch its prey don't
they live in the sea
these are bow toes or river dolphins
they've come to fish in the flooded
forest and now they're swimming through
the trees that's amazing
Mayan treasure hunter
dr. Henry I presume dr. Henry treasure
hunter if you find any treasure in this
temple it's probably Mayan not if I get
there first
not mine Henry Mayans ancient Central
American people called Mayans discovered
chocolate it was so valuable to them
they even used it as money smart people
very smart I'd be careful where you step
if I were you why
Oh
makes hate snakes whoa
it looks like solid gold
oh this isn't gold
yeah what is it Henry yeah a 2000 year
old Easter Egg the Mayan people lived in
Pierrot Indians
Central America until about a thousand
years ago when they mysteriously
abandoned their great cities maybe they
ran out of chocolate funnily enough
that's not one of the most common
theories and anyway it wasn't only
chocolate they discovered they lived
very well off the rainforests and even
prayed for forgiveness whenever they
damaged it hey I thought you said the
Mayans didn't live in the rainforest
anymore
these aren't Mayans these are the
pierrot Indians who still live in the
rain for us today as they've done for
generations like the Mayans they respect
their own you know the rain forest has
given us all kinds of things
hardwood spices nuts sugar even rubber
and chocolate don't forget chocolate as
if I could
but those guys like the rainforest these
aren't the Pierrot ah Henry
these people are clearing the rainforest
for profit the sad truth is that timber
makes money and so all over the world
rainforests are being felled for their
wood or to make space for people to grow
crops and graze animals but if they chop
all the trees down hold your threes and
when all the animals live I don't know
Henry rain forests are being destroyed
so quickly that soon the only place will
see animals like this orangutan will be
in zoos that's terrible but surely they
can't cut the trees down that quickly oh
yes they can an area of rainforest
bigger than 1,500 tennis courts is cut
down every minute of the day I can't
believe it believe it Henry
what's going to happen to that point
that rainforest tree now it will be
turned into timber to make floors or
boats or furniture or even sawdust
excuse me what a waste
okay so now they're not just cutting
down the rainforests they setting fire
to it it's the quickest way to clear
forests for farmland the ash will help
crops grow but only for a few years
after that very little will grow here
what a catastrophe
Chocolate Plant
I've got the treasure let me see
is it diamonds rubies gold no it's a
chocolate plant ah excuse me but what
happened to the rest of the plants and
the animals they've all gone
the forest is burned down Henry but
Rain Forest
don't lose hope we can still do
something about it
it may seem like all is lost for the
rainforests but it doesn't have to be
there are still vast areas left around
the world and they are regrowing even if
it isn't as quickly as we'd like so the
animals are safe it some of them yes in
fact it's hardly thanks to the animals
that the rainforest is regrowing how
come are they sowing new plants or
something in a way when the animals and
birds eat the nuts and fruit one way or
another they drop bits of them all over
the forest floor less and these grow
into new plants and trees this agouti
often berries nuts for later but then
can't remember where he buried them so
the nuts are left alone to grow cool so
be not forgetful messy eater is a good
thing in the rain forest yes Henry maybe
you should move there permanently any
more remarks like time will promise get
on with it okay Henry
hey these guys are taking all the next
hey stop it
we need more trees don't worry Henry
they're only taking what they need and
without doing any harm - so that next
year the trees will see it again you
mean they're making a living from the
rain forest without destroying it that's
cool yes Henry many people are doing
everything they can to protect rain
forests for the future there's still so
much we don't know about the rain
forests and still countless species of
animals and plants that we haven't even
discovered yet well at least there's so
hope then huh
yes Henry there is
Golden Gecko Awards
and now ladies and gentle is ERDs it's
time for Henry's amazing golden gecko
Awards the winners of my all-time best
amazing rainforest animal are in third
place is the Jaguar the biggest and
scariest predator in the rain forest
like a little animals cause this guy's
never easy to spot
second place is the tree porcupine he's
cute and spiky and in a traffic jam
he'll puncture your tires but the winner
of my golden cup award but if all-time
best amazing rainforest animal is the
Watson excuse me - gesundheit hey I do
the jokes the Hudson lives in small
trees near streams in South America it
has a strange smell and is also known as
the stink bird
stink bird yeah take a sniff whoa see a
Watsons have huge bellies where they
digest their food which means they don't
have much room for flying mussels and
are very clumsy they resemble a bird
like dinosaur called
IP optics excuse me eggy
no you're not giving me this time well
it was worth a try
the chicks hatch with claws on their
wings to help them crawl on the tree
branches the claws disappear after a few
weeks because they don't need them when
they can fly the chicks are able to get
around out of the nest almost as soon as
they're born although sometimes they
don't hold on too well
but it's okay because they can swim
which makes the hawazin my all-time best
amazing rainforest animal well goodbye
little plant
you're leaving it behind after all you
went through to find it yes I figured
the best place for rainforest animals
and plants is in the rainforest that's
very responsible of you Henry
it's for the best some things are more
important than stuffing your face you
know Henry you amaze me and you're doing
a great job saving the amazing
rainforest animals
you
