- I pull out the picture
of those kids

and I look at them
and I think,

"Why did I leave them?"

It's Nicholls.
I am officially tapping out.

- Yeah!

There are obviously a ton
of predators around here.

They know where the meat's at.

[bear growling]

There's a bear coming
to get my [bleep].

[pop, bang]

[bleep]!

- Ah! The house is on fire!

Holy [bleep].

It's raging!

No!

male narrator: In "Alone's"
coldest location ever,

ten participants
fight to survive the Arctic.

- The Arctic is one of
the most physically demanding

places on Earth.

- So freakin' cold right now.

narrator: Battling
sub-zero temperatures...

- This climate's harsh.
It's extreme.

It's mean.
It's got teeth.

- Get caught out here in
a whiteout, you're in trouble.

narrator:
Vicious predators...

- Just heard something big
moving back there.

- It's me against
the wolverine right now.

narrator: And isolation...

- There's nothing
to fill that void.

It's just you left alone
with your thoughts.

narrator:
How long will they endure?

- [grunts]

- House is on fire.

- I'm scared,
but I don't wanna tap.

- This is the most
unforgiving landscape

I have ever seen.

narrator: The last one
standing wins.

- This environment
will strip away

everything and anything
you thought you had.

- Check out...

that gorgeous wall!

Holy crap!

The only thing is it makes
the door problematic

because I hadn't realized
that my diagonal crossbeams

totally come in front
of the rectangle of the door.

[yawns] Still, all told,
it's amazing and I'm thrilled

and this wall looks
really good.

[sniffs]

Okay, let's go
and collect some rabbits.

The rabbit god's willing.

Let's check
super close by traps first.

Overall, I've been really
spending a lot of time

resetting and restrategizing
my snares

because I have had one
be successful.

And I want to get
as much meat as I can.

[sighs]

I mean one rabbit a week
is not enough.

I have this pretty resilient
body most of the time.

But I've never gone so long
without fueling it,

and that can scare me a bit.

What's the deal with this one?

It's all tangled up.

It went all the way
up and down.

And where is...

Whoa!

Damn it.

[groans]

See how that it's stick
and all--

everything on in that
is super, super frayed?

[sighs]

That's totally more fox toothy
and not rabbit toothy.

Damn.
Damn, damn, damn.

What is this?
It looks like fox tracks.

I think I've got competition.

If the rabbit
is getting caught,

I really want it to be me
who eats it.

Oh, that's frustrating.

And I'm just setting a feast
for my competition predators.

The more that happens,

the more they know
to come here.

What do I need to do?

I really need food.

- Mom, I can't eat this!

It's too tough!

And it hurts my teeth!

Ow!

Not anymore,

with the revolutionary

Dental Stick 2100.

You no longer need to suffer

through hours of trying

to chew through
the toughest of meats.

Now just use the Dental Stick.

Wow, Mom!
This is great!

So quick, don't delay.
Act fast.

Call the number
at the bottom of your screen

and we will send you not one,

not two,

but five Dental Sticks
for the price of one.

[clears throat]
Order now

and all your problems
will be solved.

Let's go.

The morning meat check.

Uh-oh.

Look at these fresh tracks.

What are these?

Man, they were just running
all over the place last night.

Look at this trail.

Bold little creatures.

There's a camp 30,

And there are the big tracks.

It's got one...

two, three, four, five toes.

A different shaped pad.

My conclusion is wolverine.

Depending on how big
those things are,

they might be able
to reach up there

to get my food.

Hmm.

Guess I should've put up
an early warning system.

I thought about it.

I figured anything that close
would wake me up.

These guys are sly.
Crazy.

Now I've got to think up
a plan.

- I miss toothpaste,
mouthwash.

Especially--
all I eat is protein...

So my breath smells exactly
like what you think it would.

One day this will all be over

and I will make sweet,
sweet love

to my toothbrush with my mouth

when it's covered in fluoride
and toothpaste.

[chuckles]

I set some good snares
out there.

High hopes today, guys.

I'm really hoping to start
getting me some good game.

[whispering]
My belly's grumbling.

It's getting hungry.

It's ready to eat
some good meals.

It looks like fresh bunny trail
on my trail here.

I'm at my first set,

sitting underneath
that tree there.

Oh, look it.

Something--something got out
of our snare, guys.

Look it.

Damn.

That's a missed opportunity.

Well, we reset to continue on.

Pure disappointment.

Oh, those are fresh tracks
of something.

Got claws.

Fox, I'd say.

That foxy-loxy
might've ate our rabbit.

[bleep]!

Fox tracks out here worries me

'cause there's not enough
rabbit out here

for both of us.

Foxes are, like,
the smartest animal out here.

They have, like, this
uncanny ability to find food.

Look, there's tracks
all over in here.

Come, food.
Come.

[gasps]

[bleep]!
You son of a b*tch!

A dirty fox got my rabbit.

[groans]

Pulled him out of my snare.
See?

They left me just
a little souvenir here

just a little reminder
of what could've been for me.

Out here, I'm not allowed
to trap fox.

At home...

I'd just eat that fox.

He'd be gone for--

what do I get here
'cause I can't trap fox?

The fox is eating my food.

I go home...

with a belly full of nothing.

Oh, that mother[bleep] fox.

You want that without swears?

They're just gonna bleep it out
because I'm not entirely sure

I can say it again
without swearing.

Without wanting
to k*ll something.

The fox better be careful

because right now my hands
are shaking,

and if I found that fox,

I'd beat it to death
with my own fist.

[rustling]

- So here I am.

About to pull an all-nighter.

Completely against my will.

Stupid wolverines
scurrying around here

carting off with everything

they can get their
grabby little paws on.

No wolverine can steal
that victory from me!

[rustling]

[wolverine growls]

You hear that?

[rustling]

[wolverine growls]

[gasps]

Whoa!

[dramatic

[clattering]

[panting]

[groans]

Oh, my heart is...

pumping right now.

I just had a...

run in with a wolverine.

It's a wolverine for sure.
Now we know.

[groans]

[sighs]

I could see his eyes
and he goes--

[mimics wolverine snarl]

And, uh--pretty intimidating.

You can tell they're
tough little critters.

And I...

I didn't take it
and he took off.

Didn't see him again,
but holy crap.

That was intense.

Jerks!

They're gonna be harassing me.

What a new nightmare
to have to deal with.

[rustling]

We're going
on our morning check

on the food.

It's stored a couple
hundred yards that direction.

Higher up in the delkin.

So that's good.

Uh-oh.

My fat!

They stole it!

Hmm.

That is super depressing.

The fat is, like,
your lifeblood out here.

If you're not getting sugars
and carbohydrates,

your body runs off of fat,
not protein,

so you actually need
a lot of fat.

Ah!

My whole gallon tub...

of kidney fat is gone.

I'm so mad.

Look at that.
Mmm!

Full of just fat.

Do you know how many calories
are in a gallon of fat?

[sighs]

Now I really want
to k*ll those wolverines.

It's one thing to steal...

five or ten pounds of meat,

but it's a whole 'nother
to steal my fat...

That I meticulously stored
and cleaned.

I am mad.

Freaking wolverines.

So it's me against
the wolverine right now.

Had another idea.

I could put a bunch
of just little snares around.

With just a--a snare
and a tin can tied to it.

So when it goes through it,

it starts dragging
that can around,

and then I can hear it
when I come out.

I'm nervous.

The wolverine's reputation is
well-established.

They're ferocious
little animals.

I heard that they can fight off
a pack of wolves.

So if I make this
so that it falls,

it's a good chance
I'll hear it.

[clattering]

Make a good long
warning system.

Let's try this thing out.

This is where
they're tromping around.

They're so low
to the ground too.

It's a little tricky.

This isn't gonna be
a for sure thing

but it is...

an improvement on nothing.

Here we go.

You little wolverine!

Just running along.

Looking for a bite to eat.

[clattering]

And that is enough...

to let me know...

If you're here.

Well, stay tuned, folks.

Tonight could be the showdown

between Jordan
and the wolverines.

Hope I win.

Nobody wants
to stay up all night,

but I have to get through it.

I've never dealt
with long stretch of boredom

like I'm about to.

You've got to keep it
in perspective, though.

It's, like, we're in this.

There's money on the line.

And now does the money help?

I see that financial gift

allowing us to spend more time
with the kids.

Help really develop them.

My daughter's gonna
be really intelligent.

But that doesn't mean a lot

unless you have the character
to go along with it.

Unless you develop
your soul.

We're trying to build both
my daughter and my son

into good people.

[faint rustling]

[clattering]

Is that a can?

[rustling]

[rustling]

[wolverine growls]

[thud, wolverine growls]

- [quietly]
Oh, my God!

[panting]
[wolverine snarling]

[grunt]
[wolverine growls]

[dramatic

- [grunting]

[thudding]

[wolverine growls]

[grunts]

[panting]

[cheering]

Yeah!

[laughs]

Yes!

Oh, my God.

I just k*lled a wolverine
with a hatchet.

Whoo!

Ah!

[laughs, pants]

Yeah!

Whoo!

Oh, my God.

Check this out.

Holy crap.

[sniffs]

[chuckles]

Holy crap.

Oh, man!

Finally!
Yeah!

You're not 40 pounds of fat,
though.

Oh, but...

I'll take it.

Yeah!

No more harassing me.

Told you I was gonna get you.

- When I was in junior high
and high school--

I guess mostly high school--
when I would walk to school,

my mom would always try
to get me to dry my hair

before I left in the morning,

and I never wanted to.

I didn't want to take
the extra time or something,

but I would walk to school

and I would always end up
at school

with my hair frozen stiff.

So now my hair
will be well-smoked.

Maybe it'll be
the new beauty trend

at the parlors.

Come get your hair smoked.

All right.

So now I get to figure out
how to deal with that fox.

It's one thing to not have
your snares working.

But knowing that your snares
are working

and you're not getting
the food is really rough.

Generally, I don't feel like
I'm struggling out here.

But I don't know.

Maybe this is the tipping
point of my experience.

In starvation situations,

I have to be on my game
all the time.

There's no cushion whatsoever.

It's like I've got an issue.

I've got the tools
to deal with it.

That's what I'm gonna do.

Let's get to work
on this trap.

Looks too low
and that's how a fox got it.

So thinking about more
spring pole mechanisms

that might be able
to lift them up

and out of the way of the fox.

Let's see if you will do

Let's see if this one
is tall enough.

That'll be fine.
Okay.

[sighs]

Now let's see what
kind of distance we want.

Enough to pull a rabbit off
of its feet

and, hopefully,
well out of reach of foxes.

Oh, [bleep].

Man, that really flung
that piece.

But that's what I want, right?

In my whole life,

I've poured myself
into ancestral skills

because I've always lived
beneath the poverty line.

Definitely have made very
unconventional life choices

that important people
in my life,

like my father,
have questioned.

A lot of my goals in the
things I've wanted in life,

like partnership and family,
haven't really worked out.

Partly because
of how unconventional

my life and choices were.

Okay, I feel good
about this snare.

It looks good,

it's on a decent trail,
and it is high enough.

Hooray, hooray, hooray.

So I'm going to redo
all of my lifting poles...

[sniffs]
With better mechanisms

now that I had
that awesome insight,

and hopefully stay ahead
of the fox.

Okay.

Let's get a fire going

and heat some tea water!

As always,
it's what's for dinner.

I mean, I'm happy with my life

and my choices
in a lot of ways,

but, you know, a lot
of my assets in being here,

and the things that
are working for me,

are also some of my greatest
sorrows in life.

Not having someone
that I miss so much.

Not having a family
depending on me.

Winning this would somehow

make it seem,
like, worthwhile.

I'm never, ever was a person
who questioned

whether I wanted a family.

I always knew that I did.

If I was to win

and get more money
than I've ever had

or dreamed of having
in my life,

it would just open up
so many things in my life.

Could I afford to adopt a child

or could I...

have a baby on my own?

For the first time in my life

to feel like
I had enough money,

to welcome some abundance
in that way,

that would be amazing.

It's about
so much more than me.

Yeah.

I really want to be
the last person here.

- I need food to win
and I want to win.

If that fox cost me $565,000
in change...

actually it's not five--

it's $656,000 in change.

About $656,543.22

depending on the exchange rate.

That's what that fox
could end up costing me.

My body's wasting away.

[sighs]

[scoffs]

She's probably only weighing
about 135 pounds from 167,

and can't stand
on her own two feet.

That's a rabbit.

That is not a rabbit.

[bleep]! It's that fox.
You guys see him?

[whistles]

There's no [bleep] way.

The fox is running my trapline.

He's out there hunting
my rabbits.

Oh!

Dirty, rotten [bleep]!

They got me.

[dramatic

[dramatic music]

- My name is Jordan.

And I deliver justice
on this island.

There he is.

Tough guy.

That is right out
of a horror movie.

What a monster.

First thing I'm gonna do is
try to find a spot here.

All right.
Good enough.

Well, the wolverine's
been neutralized.

My plan is to build a labaz.

That's the Russian word.
A labaz.

It's like my delkin
but three times as tall.

Well, here's our four trees.

I think they'll do.

Made super tall.

That should hopefully
solve my issues

and stop anything getting
into my food stash.

[sawing]
Making safety first here!

Whoo!

Just cooking
those calories away.

[groans]

So I should trim
the bark off of these.

[clanging]

It's interesting.

I spent my 20s going back
and forth to Russia.

Okay. Whoa!

I went to Russia
to help build an orphanage

and then lived
amongst the Evenki,

and just kind of
learned their ways

of living in the forest.

I was like, man, I'd choose
this over the modern life.

You know?

I'd come back to America,
earn money,

then spend it on plane tickets

and on living back in Russia.

Put those up there and
then I got to build a ladder.

[cracking]

Let me get the other angle
on our dove tail.

Friends and family,
you know, have some idea

but don't really know me

as I am in the forest.

Only my wife does, really.

Just thinking what
an opportunity it is

to show people
that are close to me

this whole other aspect
of myself

that they probably
don't even know.

It's valuable to me
to be able to share that

with the people that I love.

It should support my humble
meat supply.

- [sighs]
Uh-oh.

[thud, splash]

Like popping the top
on a cold one.

[slurp]

Except it's ice water.

I haven't really seen
any bear sign at all.

And with the fox
running around,

I'm at competition with it.

I'm struggling
with the hunting.

I'm struggling with trapping.

And it's looking like

fishing is gonna be
the thing that saves me.

I need to get some food
in me.

I have new lure made from
an old tin can that I found.

It's a little beefier
but I think it's still great.

There it is.
[exhales rapidly]

I think it's really gonna help
with the fishing.

Here we go.

Fish on!

It's a big one.
It's a big one.

Putting up a really good fight.

Just gonna let him wear himself
out as much as I can here.

Hope everything holds.

It's big.

Oh, yeah, that's real big.

[splashing]

It's okay.
It's okay.

[splashing]

It's all right.
It's all right.

It's all right.
It's all right.

No, no, no, no, no!

[dramatic

[dramatic music]

[splashing]

It's okay.
It's okay.

It's all right.
It's all right.

It's all right.
It's all right.

No, no, no, no, no!

[bleep]!
Damn!

[bleep]!
[bleep]!

Why didn't I just pull it in?

[sighs]

[bleep]!

[groans]

Why didn't I just pull it
the [bleep] in?

Why didn't I just reach down
and grab it?

Ah!

[exhales sharply]

That thing was so [bleep] huge.

Well, the good news is...

The lure worked.

The hooks worked.
The line held.

Everything worked
as it's supposed to.

[sighs]
Son of a g*n.

[sighs]
Well...

- Welcome to the Arctic.

Where you have hare heads
on your mantle.

This is a classy cafe.

This is no
sloppy operation here.

♪ Sunday brunch

♪ Sunday brunch

If it is even Sunday.

I have a hare soup.

So what kind of meat is left
in the bottom of my bone broth?

Another piece of spine.
Oh!

Maybe it has...

my spaghetti in it.

My spinal cord spaghetti.

It tastes really good,
actually,

which is the weirdest thing.

Bam!

It's really good.
It tastes just like spaghetti.

Without the mushroom basil
spaghetti sauce.

Tastes just like it.

I'm getting skinner.

I can just tell that

I'm dragging
behind my food intake,

and my energy is dropping.

I need to regain that.

[sighs]

These past days of redoing
the shelter and all of that

was just
a lot of energy expended,

and though I had the hare,
I definitely need another one.

Just so I can regain

slightly backwards.

Here's some tracks.

Little squirrel tracks.

Oh.

I know, there's a squirrel
that lives in here.

I've heard him...

numerous times.

I see a squirrel right there.

Right there in that tree.

It's way up there.

It's still bleeding.

It's, like, right there.

It's just an absolute
wonderment to me

how I'm just constantly having

some trial to go through.

I've had more injuries

than I think this show
has ever had someone have.

Kind of making me insane.

I'm just gonna put
a band-aid on it.

I mean, what else can I do?

- I'm really proud of my net
to scoop fish out.

See it?

So now I can, you know,
be holding the line

and I can just dip
and--and scoop.

Get them onto the shore
as opposed to, you know--

and I can get it pretty deep
in the water.

I mean,
that's a pretty good reach.

Sweet!

Let's catch a fish.

The fish
that I'm catching are large

and hard to get on land.

I lost a couple
of good-sized fish

and that's not an option.

It's, uh--it's icy.

But, uh...

as long as we're slow,
we can make it work.

[music fades]

[plop]

Men have been doing this
for hundreds of years.

Leaving their families
behind in conquest

of something bigger and better
for the greater good.

The hunters would go out
for weeks at a time.

The fishermen would go
for months at a time.

We don't do that anymore.

It's just that we
have been softened

because that's not necessary.

We can go to the store.

So this is a privilege

to be able to walk in
the steps of our forefathers

and recreate those moments of

what I feel
what men were back then.

That's worth it to me.

There we go.
