[theme song]
[Nermal] Not cute.
Not cute.
Not cute.
Definitely not cute.

Boy, that's about as not cute

as you can get.

Nermal, remind me again

how much longer

you're planning to overstay

your welcome?

I've told you eleven times,

Garfield.

Tell me twelve.

The Cutest Pet Pageant finals

are tonight at the Town Hall.

I, of course,

will win as I always do.

I am, after all,

the cutest creature

in the Universe-as-we-know-it.
Which reminds me...
If you're going to look great,
smell great.

Don't worry, Garf.

After I win, I'll depart.

Eventually...

...in other news, a skunk was

spotted downtown this morning,

prompting the sheriff

to lock down the area.

A skunk?
In this town? Yucko!

[TV]

Skunks are mammals

and they can create

an unpleasant odor

that clings to people

or other animals.

I hate skunks.

And I'm sure they're not wild

about you either, Nermal

It's just that if a skunk

were to spoil my delicate fur,

I'd lose the Cutest Pet Contest.

I would never survive

such public humiliation.

I'd have to leave town forever!
Oh, I like the sound of that.

Skunks are small, about the size

of an average house cat.

Each has a distinctive

white stripe on its back.

Size of a cat?

Stripe on its back.

And now for the final touch.

Voilà!

Now all I need is bad body odor.
I'm in luck! It's trash day

and that means the fullest,

smelliest cans of the week.

Observe my fine diving form...
Rotting fish.
I'm off to a good start.
Dirty socks!
Repulsive!

Old egg shells and banana peels

left over from my old series.

Disgusting!

Limburger cheese made

during the Italian Renaissance!

Wow! This really smells.
And now, so do I!

Watch as as I get rid of

the 'Annoying One'.

What's that awful smell?

[Garfield]

That would be
moi!

A skunk!
[screaming]

I enjoyed that so much let's

watch it again in slow motion...

Oh, this is so good!

Relax, Odie, It's only me,

Garfield.

I guess I'd better go wash up

all this paint--

[Jon]

Garfield!

Odie! Nermal!
Lunch is ready!
A skunk!

Please don't come

anywhere near me.

I'll do whatever you want!
Here! You can have this!
Maybe that shower can wait.
Let's see what else I can do

with my newfound

repulsive powers!

See those two dogs?
Meanest in the neighborhood.

Ordinarily, I'd see them

and run the other way.

But this time...
[angry growling]
I'm beginning to enjoy stinking.

And
una
calzone for you!

And rigatoni

in clam sauce for you!

Vito!

Something wrong with your pizza,

Mrs. Bagicaluppe?

It stinks.

And if it's not the pizza,

where could that horrible stench

come from?

Maybe he put anchovies on it.

Yeah, there something

to be set on bad hygiene

...and we have reports of the skunk

sighted all over the city.

So many so, that some fear

there are now two skunks.

Two?

Well, I can't worry

about that now.

I have to go get ready for

the Cutest Pet Contest tonight.

Come along with me

if you want to.

The mayor has ordered

all available forces

to be mobilized to find that--

Dear me. I think that skunk's

around here someplace.

This is great! I should

have gone skunk years ago.

[police]
Hey!

Hold it right there, skunk!

Put your hands up

and don't try anything smelly!

All this for a tiny little skunk?
Like, really?
In here! Hurry!
You're a real--

[police]

Wait, check over there.

[police] This way!
Thanks.
I guess.
You're the real deal, huh?
I helped you out

because I thought

you were a fellow skunk,

but I see--

Yeah... just a cat

with a bad paint job

But...

You don't smell bad at all!

I thought--

Forget everything you ever heard

about skunks.

We're actually quite clean

and tidy.

Wanna know our secret?
A perfume bottle?
Yup. "Eau de Putois"!

Every skunk carries one

at all times.

See, we can't defend ourselves

against predators,

so that stinky perfume

keeps us safe.

Very nasty!
All gone, now.
You're safe to go.
You save me.
Don't even mention it.

At first, I thought it was

kinda fun to scare people off.

But after awhile,

isn't it a bit,

lonely to be a skunk?
It's all right.

We skunks are pretty solitary

creatures anyway.

There's one thing I've always

dreamt of doing, though.

The Cutest Pet Contest?
I know, I know.
Pathetic, right?

But it would be nice to be known

for something

other than my bad body odor.
I'll make you a deal.
You help me get this paint off

and maybe I can make

your dream come true.

[Eddie Gourmand]

And now, people

the moment

you've been waiting for!

These are the three finalists

in this year's

Cutest Pet Competition!

Get on with it.
Just give me my trophy.

We'll be announcing the winner

right after this commercial.

Don't go away!
Oh! I have time to freshen up!
Ah, there's where I left it.

[Eddie Gourmand]

Contestant!

Back on stage!

Well, time to win.
Yucko!

I will open the envelope and

read the decision of the judges

as to which of these pets
is truly the cutest of the cute.

That winner embodies

the spirit of--

beauty and poise and--

just plain being...

adorable and cute and--

Let's get this over with,

because

I need a window and a gas mask.
And the winner is...
not you!

"Not me?" No, no!

Take the "not" out!

I don't understand.

This vile, nasty smell can't

possibly be coming from
moi!

Security!
Get that smelly cat out of here!

No, no! I'm the winner!

I'm always the winner!

Just look at me!

Can't you see I'm the cutest

pet in the whole wide world?

I protest! I demand a recount!

I demand a recount

of the recount!

Are you sure about this?
Sure, I'm sure.

Okay,

they're short one finalist.

You just get out there.

But people always run away

from me.

They won't this time. Go!
A skunk!

As if it didn't smell

bad enough here!

Hey, he doesn't smell bad.

In fact, he smells pretty good

for a skunk.

Well since there are

no other contestants left,

I guess that this year's winner

of the Cutest Pet Contest

is...
a skunk!
[applause]
Bravo!
Bravo!
Adorable!

Hey, everyone feels like a skunk

now and then.

And sometimes, all you need

to pass the smell test

is a little perfume.
No, Odie, don't cry!

I'm only going to

the Comic Con for two days!

There's plenty of food

in the fridge.

Not anymore.

And Liz will come

check on you tomorrow.

You'll see. I'll be back

before you even know it.

Oh for the love of lasagna,

Odie,

you've gotta learn to look

at the 'plus' side of things!

Jon is gone,

which means

we can do things like this.

[laughter]
Thank you.

Hey, Odie,

want to split the last slice?

And now, I'm going to

watch bad TV all day

and do absolutely nothing.
A big change from yesterday

when I watched bad TV all day

and did absolutely nothing.

There's only one thing

I don't like when Jon is gone.

[howling at the heavens]
That.

Odie misses him whether

he's going to be gone

ten minutes or ten months.

If only I could make

Odie believe

Jon is still here with us.
Of course!

Why didn't

I think of this before?

And a pair of dirty socks.
Perfect.
Now, he just needs a face.

I happen to be real good

at drawing Jon.

Eat your heart out, Jim Davis.

Behold!
Voilà!

Jon Two.
Odie?
Guess who's back?
Aren't you happy to see Jon?
And now for the final touch.

[voice mail]

Hello. This is Jon Arbuckle.

I'm not in right now, but--

What he means he's not

in the bathtub right now.

[voice mail]

Hello. This is Jon Arbuckle.

I'm not in right now.

But if you leave--

Jon, is it all right

if I eat your meal, too?

If you don't say anything,

I'll assume it's okay with you.

OK!
Good night, Odie.
And good night, Jon.

What’s that Odie, you want Jon

to throw the stick for you?

-What's that, Jon?

-Garfield,

will you throw the stick for me?
Sure, Jon, I'll throw the stick!
Wonderful throw, Garfield.
Oh, thank you, Jon.

Boy, that wind's starting

to kick up.

Garfield! Odie!
Garfield! Odie!
Oh, you heard me.
No, but I smelled pizza.
I came over to bring you this

and to make sure Jon's windows

were all closed.

It's windy out there.
Odie? Where are you?
I saved a slice for you.
I meant, half a slice.
Odie?
Oh no! Odie! Odie, come back!
Odie! Odie!

I would like a red one

for my darling little son, please.

Here you go, ma'am.
I don't want a red balloon!

I want the one with the hat and

the stupid looking face on it!

I want that one! I'll pay

whatever I have to for it.

Here.
It's all yours!
Yeah!
He's mine, all mine!
Don't cry, Aloysius!
Mother will buy you another one.
So we gotta make these, Leon!

It's a balloon that looks

like half a person

with a really stupid face.
Excuse me! I need another.

"What does it look like?"

You know that guy with the cat?

I need another one

of those balloons!

And now she wants to buy

another one!

I'm telling you, Leon,

we'll make a fortune!

I need to find Odie

before that dumb dog

gets into trouble.

I want my balloon back!
Guess I'm a little late.
Out of my way!
I want my balloon!

Let go of that child's balloon,

dog!

No!
No! No! No!

-[barking]

-[cry]

[laughter]
Odie, where are you?
Odie, no!
I don't wanna see this.
This calls for a brilliant plan.

I hope one of you has one

because I sure don't.

Wait.

Sorry buddy,

but this is an emergency!

Odie, wait!
This "making another Jon"

is not looking like one

of my better ideas.

They're heading

towards downtown!

What do you mean,

they've run away?

I don't know what to tell you.

One minute they were here,

the next they were gone!

I've looked for them everywhere.

I'm on my way back

from the airport.

Odie? Garfield?
Driver, follow that cat and dog!

I've gone way over

my contractual limit

of running scenes

in this episode.

Someone call my agent.
Odie!
Garfield! Odie!

Hey!

Who switched off the lights?

Jon! Look out for that pit of--
Wet concrete.
Come on, Odie.

I just talked to

the construction workers, Jon

They're still trying to find

the right tool

to get you out

of that concrete in one piece.

[incomprehensible speech]
Hey, look at it this way, pooch.

At least he won't be leaving

home again for a while.
