01x11 - The Forever w*r

Post by bunniefuu »

[theme music playing]

[General Ko-Val] Centuries ago,
our forefathers waged a gallant battle

to possess this planet,
Karrades.

They failed.

Over the years,
all reconnaissance drones

sent to investigate this area
have been lost.

I have prevailed upon
the new Prime Minister

to let us redeem this blot
on Kree history.

I, personally,
will lead the as*ault

to secure this entire system
for the glory of the Supremor.

[both] For the glory
of the Supremor.

[Ko-Val] What is that?

Instruments show
a level-ten spatial anomaly.

Level ten? That's impossible.

Ship, come about.

Steer us clear of that thing.

Full speed. Full speed.

Ko-Val to fleet.
Apply tractor beams at once.

[Colonel Edokk] General Ko-Val,
acknowledge. Acknowledge.

General, what are your orders?

Crew, lis... listen to me.

Save yourselves.

[Prime Minister Zarek]
You mean to tell me

you didn't search
for General Ko-Val?

[Edokk] Sir, he ordered us
to save ourselves.

[Zarek] The general's loss
didn't frighten you, did it, Edokk?

[Edokk] I'm a Kree warrior,
Prime Minister Zarek.

I fear nothing.

[City] Code Alpha. Kree-Lar system
defenses have been breached.

The invasion force
above the planet

is currently repelled
by our deflectors.

Above the planet?
Where was the warning?

[City] This is the warning.

The entire invasion has consumed

merely 27 seconds so far.

What kind of invaders
can move with such speed?

[City] Not "invaders." Invader.

The Silver Surfer.

Once again, the Kree have proven
themselves to be formidable foes.

[grunts]

I had hoped to gain entrance to
their capital by the use of sheer speed,

but this energy barrier has
negated any advantage I gained.

Still, having obtained their
attention, I may yet achieve my goal.

People of the Kree...

[indistinct chattering]

I come in peace.

He lies! He brings Galactus
upon Kree-Lar.

According to our intelligence,

the Surfer is no longer
involved with Galactus.

[grunts]

There is no need to fight.
My mission is a personal one.

City, order our ships
to ceasefire.

Silver Surfer is not an invader.

He has fired
only in self-defense.

Silver Surfer, please accept
our warmest welcome.

Our escort will guide you down.

Such hospitality
is difficult to refuse.

A tangy treat from the far end
of the Kirby cluster.

I need neither to eat nor drink
for sustenance, Prime Minister.

On the other hand,
if I might avail myself here.

[contented sigh]

And now, Silver Surfer, what is
this personal mission of yours?

Since my earliest youth,

I have heard
the Kree supreme intelligence

praised for its wisdom.

Now, I would like to utilize
that wisdom.

That is not possible.

The Supremor is no publicly
accessible database.

He is
a collective consciousness,

the absolute ruler
of the empire.

Who better to turn to for the
location of my lost home planet?

I mean no insult to the Kree,
nor do I want your secrets.

My only interest is
in the world known as Zenn-La.

Surfer, the guiding precept
of the Kree empire

can be put in one word, utility.

If I agree to grant you
an audience with our leader,

are you prepared to demonstrate
your usefulness to us?

In other words,
you seek some sort of payment.

Let me make that still clear.

I seek it in advance.

[Silver Surfer] The Kree wish
me to investigate

what happened
to their lost General Ko-Val

and bring back the findings.

To that end, have they provided
me with this analytical belt.

Never before have I heard
of an outsider

being allowed to use
their technology.

This mission must be
more important than it seems.

The anomaly described in reports

from the general's fleet,

I do not know what data
the belt is receiving,

but I detect enough energy within this
strange object to fill an entire star system.

The anomaly is far more
dangerous than I thought.

There is only one way to solve
this mystery, and to do it, I risk all.

Yet, it is worth any price
if I can return to Shalla-Bal.

What is happening here?

If I did not know differently, I would
assume I had never left normal space.

That ship

it must be Ko-Val's.

The configuration of these
others, however, is antique,

although their condition
appears new.

[Adam Warlock] No mercy, Kree.

[laughing]

[Silver Surfer] Who are you?

Adam Warlock,
defender of Karrades.

Which side are you on,
Kree or freedom?

I am the Silver Surfer,
and I am not here to fight.

This is not my battle.

Look around you.

Doesn't it
make your blood pound?

They are all our battles.

Well, Surfer, what is it to be?

It would appear
I have no choice.

I stand with you.

[laughing]

Well done, my ally.

You, too, are a formidable
warrior, Adam Warlock,

but I have many questions
about what is happening here.

Questions?
There's no time for questions.

We have to put these tyrants
in their place.

Yes. Come to me.

More fodder for the cause.

[Silver Surfer]
The battle goes well,

and yet, this entire situation
is exceedingly strange.

An entire Kree division in ships
from long ago fighting one man,

and all of it occurring within a
segment of space that should not exist.

Both Adam Warlock and I have
destroyed countless vessels,

but they leave not a trace,

as though they never were here.

Thank you, friend Surfer.

Together we've saved my planet
from destruction,

or worse, by the accursed Kree.

Indeed, Adam, victory is ours.

How, though, did you get such
power and to be in this place?

No mercy, Kree!

[Silver Surfer] Never would I
have thought such a thing possible.

The battle is unfolding
exactly as before.

[laughing]

I am Adam Warlock,
defender of Karrades.

Which side are you on,
Kree or freedom?

I am the Silver Surfer.

Have you no memory of me,
of all this?

What's there to remember?

There's only the battle,
and the victory.

[Silver Surfer] Adam Warlock does
not seem to know he is not in real space.

Perhaps,
he will come to his senses

if I remove him from here,
but how?

If anyone can understand
his feeling about his world,

it is I.

Warlock, the Kree
have infiltrated your world!

But this is the battle to keep them
away, and it has only just begun.

You have been outflanked.

The people of Karrades
have sent me for your help.

We must hurry. Follow me.

Where is Karrades?

Beyond this
Kree-manufactured barrier.

No Kree barrier will keep me
from defending my world.

We must work together
to get through it.

Do not stop.

It is responding.

[groaning]

Warlock, are you all right?

I...

I don't know.

Where am I?

You have been trapped in, in
what appears to be a time anomaly,

fighting the same battle
over and over.

No... No, that's not true.

I've been doing what I was
born to do, defending my home.

My home... Karrades.

Warlock, wait.

No... no... no.

My home.

It's all gone.

How?

Why?

Think. Think, Warlock.

Perhaps, you will recall.

I...

I can see... pieces.

We were a planet
of scientists and researchers,

who refused to give
our discoveries to the Kree.

Then, we were attacked.

Karrades had no army,
and our losses were great.

The high evolutionary council
created me

out of the most potent DNA
on the planet

to be its champion,

and both defend and protect.

That's all I know.

Did the w*r end?

Did I fail?

From what I have seen,
my friend, you have succeeded.

You drove the Kree off
generations ago.

Then what could have
happened here?

Why have I been out in space
fighting all this time?

There is only one place
where those facts may be found.

And if I am fortunate, answers
to my own questions as well.

Will you come with me, Warlock,
to the planet of your enemies?

Kree-Lar!

So, Silver Surfer,
you have returned.

But instead of General Ko-Val
and his ship,

you bring me Adam Warlock,
defender of Karrades.

Now, Kree, tell me,
what happened to my world?

You seemed to threaten Kree-Lar?

Zarek, your general
is trapped in the anomaly,

endlessly reliving
an ancient battle.

The analytical belt has recorded

all the necessary information.

Therefore, in accordance with our
bargain, I would see the Supremor.

[Supremor] No, Silver Surfer.

It is we who would see
Adam Warlock and you.

Welcome, Silver Surfer,
Adam Warlock.

We are the supreme intelligence.

You are the supreme bringer
of suffering and despair

throughout the universe.

No!

It would seem you have us
at a disadvantage.

We would not be the Supremor
if we did not.

Ah, Adam Warlock,

long have we wondered if the
rumors of your existence were true.

Had we allowed them
to become public,

you would be
an interstellar legend now.

I would settle
for being your nightmare.

Nightmare? Hardly.

How could you frighten those
you are going to so greatly benefit?

For millennia, the Kree have been
masters of genetic manipulation,

but even we reached a plateau
we could not surpass.

In an attempt
to revitalize our race,

we sought and failed to obtain
new knowledge from Karrades.

Now, the only being

ever to best us is in our hands.

[grunts]

And once we have
taken him apart,

we can make our race
truly invincible,

using Adam Warlock's own DNA.

Supremor,
you must not do this thing!

[Supremor] Silver Surfer,
you have served me well.

You may go.

Save yourself.

No! You are here because of me.

I shall not leave you behind.

- [groaning]
- [chuckling]

[grunting]

You cannot do this.

I am the Supremor.

I am supreme.

[Silver Surfer] I will take us
out of here. We will be free.

I...

I lived.

And all your genetic material
remains intact.

If only my home-world
lived as well.

I will never know what happened.

[Belt]
Thank you for your request.

Information processed.

The analytical belt.

The Supremor did not deign
to examine it.

In studying the anomaly
and related phenomena,

this analyzer discovered
crono-syncratic images,

like moments frozen in time.

I will now replay those images.

They show after Adam Warlock
defeated the Kree,

many citizens of Karrades
feared their own hero,

thinking as someone
who knew only the ways of w*r,

he might turn against them.

A temporal anomaly was created
to lock him away.

There, Warlock would relive
his great battle for all eternity.

But many disagreed.

What if he should be
needed again?

To impose this point of view, its
adherents created a warrior of their own.

The other side
retaliated in kind.

More warriors were created.

The result was inevitable.

Karrades, and everyone on it,
was destroyed.

In saving my planet,
I destroyed it.

How can I live
with that knowledge?

How can I go on?

The universe is filled with
good people, Adam Warlock,

people weakened
by injustice and greed.

Soar out to it with me,

and you are sure to find a new
cause, a new home to champion.

I have a home, friend Surfer,

where I can leave
my memories behind,

and live forever in glory
defending Karrades.

It's ironic, isn't it?

You learned nothing
that you wanted from the Kree,

while I have learned too much.

[Silver Surfer] So often have I
felt overwhelmed by my own loss,

and the futility of my search
for Zenn-La.

Yet, now, I leave behind a man,
who could almost have been a brother.

Knowing that although
his world no longer exists,

still has he found
a way to return.

My resolve
is stronger than ever.

My home does exist,

and never will I rest, until I
set foot on its peaceful soil.

[Warlock] Yes! Come to me!
More fodder for the cause.

[theme music playing]
