01x18 - Enter the Chameleon

Knocked unconscious by a boulder,

the mighty Hulk is found by Major Talbot
and immediately put in chains.

Regaining consciousness,
he strains to free himself

only to find he is changing back
to Dr Banner.

You are helpless at last.
You'll never escape me.

Not till I finally learn
the truth about you.

I must break free
before he learns who I really am.

Many thousands of miles from
the closely guarded m*ssile base,

a mysterious figure barks orders
into a powerful transmitter.

Chameleon, this is the Leader.

The agent I sent to steal their robot
has not returned from the base.

You must learn if his disappearance

has anything to do
with the Hulk's capture.

That seems like a simple enough task
for the infallible Chameleon.

Soon the man of many faces
is on his way to the m*ssile base,

wearing a new disguise.

The Leader's agent was probably
k*lled by the Hulk,

which gives me an idea.

Finally, the jet lands
outside the army base.

And a few minutes later,
the Chameleon, in another disguise,

reaches the office of General Ross.

So that's Thunderbolt Ross.

All I need
is this one good look at him.

Now to return to the base
and carry out my most daring plan.

I shall make an ally
of the rampaging Hulk.

And so because no serviceman would
dare to interfere with a passer-by

who seems to be
the commanding General,

the Chameleon reaches
his quarry with ease.

Captain, dismiss your men.
I want to be alone with the prisoner.

- But, sir, if he should escape!
-That was an order.

Yes, sir.

As the troops depart, the pulse rate
of the Hulk reaches its critical peak

and once again, his incredible
transformation begins.

I'm changing. I'm becoming
the puny Bruce Banner again.

Finally, hundreds of pounds lighter,

Bruce Banner is able to easily
slip through the chains

built to hold the enormous Hulk.

I've got to change clothes

before the General realises
who the Hulk really is.

He's gone,
but the chains are still intact.

Someone else must've freed him,
but who?

Now, if I can make it to my room
without that search patrol seeing me.

A short time later, at the office
of the real General Ross...

Of course I never ordered the guard
detail to leave their posts!

It was some blankety-blank impostor.

- Now the Hulk has escaped.
- General, I heard what happened.

- Can I be of any help?
- Where in Sam Hill have you been?

You've got a lot of explaining
to do, mister.

There's nothing to explain.
I was doing research in the caves.

Dr. Banner, I've heard
some disturbing rumours about you.

I'm not interested in rumours, Major.
Good day.

Later, as Bruce Banner returns to his
laboratory, a hidden figures pounces.

Taken completely by surprise,
the scientist is bound by the Chameleon.

I haven't yet learned
what I came here to find out.

But if I take the identity
of Banner himself,

all his secret discoveries
will soon be mine.

What a find.
A working model of his gamma b*mb.

Bruce, darling, I couldn't wait
to see you when I heard you were safe.

Blast it. Who is she?

Look, I'm busy now.
Come back later.

Something's wrong. You've changed.
You're not Bruce Banner.

- You're an impostor.
- You are clever, young lady.

Far too clever for your own good.

I've got to break free. The Chameleon
won't let Betty leave here alive.

As the struggling Dr Banner
becomes desperate,

his pulse rate increases
until at last...

No puny ropes can hold me.

Stay back.
This is a gamma grenade b*mb.

- If I drop it, we all die.
- We've got to run.

A mere b*mb
won't stop the Hulk for long.

A patrol's coming.
They mustn't chain me again.

I've done it.
I've driven off the Hulk.

It's the Hulk.
Quick, radio headquarters.

Now to get rid of that girl and deliver
the b*mb to the Leader.

A rocket sled. Just the place
to hide a meddling female.

It's the Hulk again.

That will keep him occupied
long enough for me to escape.

Blast it. Stay back,
or I'll blow us all to smithereens.

Footsteps behind me.
A patrol is attacking!

I'll slam them like gnats.

I've got to escape with my life.
Even the b*mb doesn't matter any more.

I'll use it to destroy the Hulk
and the entire army post with him.

I remember.
Banner built the b*mb.

If it explodes, everyone will die.

While the smoke clears,
the Hulk slowly rises to his knees

as the powerful gamma rays change him
again into gallant Dr Bruce Banner.

Then, having saved the entire post,

the gallant scientist races away
unheralded, unrewarded,

ever dreading that terrible moment

when fate transforms him again
into the Incredible Hulk.
