this experiment should prove to you that

in chemistry it's not too clever to take

anything for granted

it will also i hope have a much deeper

meaning for some of you

i have just poured what can be an

extremely volatile chemical into this

beaker as you can see it just sits there

alone it's harmless

i will now add another chemical to the

same beaker

alone or with something that doesn't rub

it the wrong way there's no reaction

but

watch what happens when i add the

catalyst

what the catalyst was in this case

doesn't matter depending upon the

elements the catalyst can be almost

anything including for a potentially

dangerous expl*sive situation the driver

of a car that picks up hitchhikers
