01x13 - Trouble on the Colorado

Post by bunniefuu »

Dad, phone's for you.

It's kind of long distance.

Departure: quest compound
destination: lake powell, utah

We'll land the catalina on lake
powell and travel the rest of
the way...

...down the colorado river
to the rendezvous point by raft.

We should reach the anasazi
granaries the day after
tomorrow.

I gotta tell you, benton.

I'm looking forward
to sh**ting the colorado again.

You're not the only one, race.

Here you go, boy.

Just in case you forgot
how to doggy paddle.

Separation canyon is just on
the other side of these rapids.

Cool.

Separation canyon.

Isn't that where john wesley
powell's trappers left his
expedition?

Yep, and those are the rapids
that made them quit.

Very cool.

Okay, you two, into the raft.

Come on, dad.

Those rapids are just
begging to be shot.

sh**t those rapids in kayaks...

...and you'll be throwing a lamb
chop past a hungry wolf.

Now, either you hitch a ride
on the big boat or portage
around.

Let's rock.

Next stop, powder river.

Bandit!
Better ride inside the boat,
huh, boy?

Race!

Burr on a catfish.
That could tear us to shreds.

Heads up, everyone.

Hang on.

Bandit!

Hang on, boy.
Hang on.

I got you, boy.

Jonny, look out.

Oh, no.

Where is everybody?

Over here, jonny.

Jonny?

-Dad?
-Are you all right?

That was great.

Great?
I seem to have lost my headgear.

Better than losing your head.
Come on.

Bandit.

Bandit.

Where are you, boy?

Come on, bandit.
Where are you, bandit?

Bandit, come on.

-Bandit.
-Bandit.

He had his life jacket on.
He'll be all right.

Look, over there.

Oh, my.
This does not look good.

Besides bandit, we've lost
roughly one-third of our food.

And our walkie-talkies.

Well, at least we still have
our good looks.

More importantly,
the beacon is still intact.

Dad, race, over here.
Bandit's paw prints.

He's alive.
Come on, guys,
we gotta get moving.

Hold on, jonny.
We can't miss the rendezvous.

The rendezvous.
Right.

Dr. Quest, jonny, hadji
and I could go after bandit...

...and meet up with you later.

I suppose.

-Dad.
-All right.

Yes.

Right.
We have struck in, I believe.

You mean struck out, hadji.

Actually, we didn't.
We hit a grand slam.

I have never claimed
to comprehend silly sports
analogies.

Meet us at the rendezvous point
before the sun sets.

With or without bandit.

Y'all got about four hours till
sundown.

And listen to your old man,
jonny.

These canyons aren't safe
to be stomping around in after
dark.

Don't sweat it, race.
What else can go wrong?

I bet you're looking forward
to meeting up with alice
starseer.

Just think of it, race.
The places she's seen.

Other galaxies, other worlds.

Just keep tracking.

Child's play.

There must be something
that's still amusing.

Dr. Surd.

What is it now, lorenzo?

We're a hundred miles out
of the canyon, starting our
descent.

Questworld log off.

I cannot tell you how much
I resent these returns
to the real world.

The anasazi granaries.

It doesn't seem possible
that they really farmed this
area.

There's still a great deal we
have to learn about the anasazi
and how they lived.

He came this way, all right.

-But the tracks end here.
-No, they don't.
Look.

The climb will be difficult,
and we have very little time
remaining.

Hey, guys.

Check this out.

"1871, C.e.e."?

Colorado exploration expedition.

John wesley powell's second trip
to the grand canyon.

If a one-armed man can handle
it, we can handle it.

All right, then.
Here is the campsite...

...and here is the rendezvous
point and here is our position.

That means after we find
bandit...

...we can go overland
to the granaries here.

-Before nightfall?
-No problemo.

Remember, hadj, the optimist
always sees the doughnut...

...but the pessimist
sees only the hole.

In this instance,
it is a very large hole.

Do you think he
even listened to me?

Nope.

-Any sign of alice?
-No.

Jonny and the others
should have been here by now.

Relax, benton.
They'll be here soon.
When do you think alice will
show?

I suspect it'll be sometime
after nightfall.

It sounds like she's early.

What the...?

Maybe you were expecting
some little green spacemen?

Raise them high.

You too, hotshot.

Hold your horses, pal.

I've had it with you, bannon.

Race, here.
Catch.

Race, watch out.

Okay.

Okay.
You win.

Hey.

I wouldn't do that
if I were you, dr. Quest.

k*lling you might
upset dr. Surd...

...and that's a pleasure
he'd rather reserve for himself.

Hey, guys, there's more
of bandit's paw prints up here.

What'd he do,
sprout wings or something?

Or perhaps
he found an escalator.

Come on, hadj,
it's a piece of cake.

I am only hoping that it
is not an upside-down cake.

Come on, hadj,
you're almost there.

Yes.
Yes, my friend.

I just wish I had
a pair of elevator shoes.

Oh, my goodness.

-Hadji!
-Hadj!

-This is not good.
-Hadji, are you okay?

Yes. I am afraid I have found
myself between the proverbial
rock...

...and a very hard place.

Hold on, hadj.

I do not believe
I have an alternative.

Here, grab on.

I just cannot reach it.

-Just a couple of feet short.
-Couple of feet?

A couple of feet.

Jonny?

I do not wish to rush you,
my friends...

...but I seem to be losing
my grip.

-Like you said, hadj.
-What?

There just aren't
a whole lot of alternatives.

Come on, hadj.

Gotcha!

I must say that I prefer my
solid ground to be horizontal
rather than vertical.

Okay.
One, two, three.

Like I said,
a piece of-- cake?

Hi.
I'm jonny quest...

...and these are my friends,
jessie and hadji.

I know your name, jonny quest.

You do?

Yes.
It's on your dog's collar.

Bandit.

Let's go.
Now.

So jeremiah surd's putting
in a personal appearance.

Sit down, doc.

Just tell me when you're
meeting your little friend...

...and I'll refrain
from k*lling you.

I told you,
we're not meeting anyone.

Please, dr. Quest,
don't insult my intelligence.

I've hacked your computer files
on this fascinating object.

I've also accessed a number
of secret government files.

Would you care to take a look?

Really, dr. Quest, space ships?

Anasazi indians becoming
extraterrestrial travelers?

Your girlfriend, alice starseer,
leaving the planet?

Come with me, benton.

If I didn't have
all this evidence...

...i would have taken you
for a complete crackpot.

I'll never forget you.

You're such an impolite
earthling too.

Alice starseer is returning
for a terrestrial visit...

...and you weren't even
gonna roll out the red carpet.

I, on the other hand...

...have a much more interesting
reception planned for her.

-Someone's been here.
-Shell casings.

And that appears to be blood.

Looks like several people left
in a helicopter.

How'd you know that?

You must have noticed how the
rotor had flattened all
the brush.

Then you saw the tracks
the landing gear made...

...and you figured
it had to be a helicopter,
right?

Actually, I saw a big chinook
skirting the north rim...

...just before we found you
three.

Jonny, this rendezvous...

...who was it your father was
expecting to meet?

Benton.
You don't know
how much it means to me...

...that you've come here
to help bury my grandfather.

It was important to him
that he be brought to earth...

...and laid to rest
in the ways of our ancestors.

I wish I could say
I was happy to see you, alice.

What are you talking about?

This place, I thought we
were going to meet--

There's been a change in plans.

Very impressive entrance,
miss starseer.

I feel privileged to have
witnessed it.

-Benton, who--?
-Dr. Jeremiah surd.

And you are at my service.

As you can see, I live most of
my life inside my exceptional
mind...

...augmented somewhat
by the virtual reality of
questworld.

Of course, it does have its
limitations.

But inside your head, my dear...

...lie memories and thoughts
of an intergalactic level.

Now, if you don't mind,
I'm going to access it.

You're out of your league,
dr. Surd.

Oh, you might be right,
but I doubt it.

Terminate quest and bannon.

Questworld log on.

Subjects: jeremiah surd
and alice starseer.

You're fighting me,
miss starseer.
Not advisable.

Questworld is my universe.

That's better.

Tremendous.
The birth of a star.

More than I had even dreamed.

Feel free to plead
for your pathetic lives.

I promise you
it'll fall on deaf ears.

Oh, I don't know.
Our hearing's still pretty good.

Let me guess.
The cavalry to the rescue?

No, indians.

Yo, paleface.

How.

-Watch out.
-Hey, you.

Not nice to litter like that.

Now, don't you know you're not
supposed to play with knives?

Pa always told me that it's not
polite to hit a lady.

But then again, miss julia,
you're no lady.

With your mind downloaded
into questworld...

...the universe is mine.

The alien home planet.

With this technology,
my powers will be infinite.

Wrong, surd.
You've reached
the end of the line.

Quest?
No!

Welcome to reality, surd.

I understand
the beauty of forgiveness...

...but letting surd and his
th*gs go makes no sense
whatsoever.

We must honor our tribal laws.

Right, I get it.

When an elder of the tribe dies,
to help appease the gods...

...and insure him safe passage
to the other world...

...the tribe must set all their
captured prisoners free.

Your father has taught you well,
jonny.

We have come very far to honor
the passing of a great man.

Farewell, grandfather
and dear friend.
