(Birds chirping)

(Whirring)

(Bell ringing)

(Laughing)

(Eagle screaming)

Yahoo!

Whee!

(Whirring)

(Birds chirping)

Good throw, Bill!

Your turn, Rupert!

I wish I could throw like

that.

What’s your secret?

(Chuckling)

It’s all in the wrist action.

All in the wrist?

Well, here goes!

That looks like a good one.

But is it coming back?

Any second now.

(Birds chirping softly)

Are you sure?

It’ll be back soon.

(Birds chirping softly)

I don’t think it's coming

back.

I think you used too much

wrist, Rupert.

(Wind howling)

What was that?

The boomerang?

No, whatever it was it was

bigger than that.

But there’s nothing up

there--

Look out!

(Whirring)

What is it?

It’s an oil lamp!

It looks ancient.

But where did it come from?

It probably came from the

Dark Ages!

(Laughing)

Get it?

(Chuckling)

Thank you, Professor.

(Wind howling)

There it is again!

I don’t see anything.

Neither do I!

What do you make of it?

Strange shadows and oil lamps

falling from the sky?

I’d say we've stumbled onto

something rather mysterious.

You know, Bill, ever since I

woke up this morning I’ve had a

feeling we were in for an

adventure.

Look!

That’s odd.

Yes!

How on Earth did a rug get up in

a tree?

No, I mean look at the way

it’s flapping in the wind.

So?

There isn’t any wind!

Now that is odd.

(Grunting)

(Straining)

(Branch cracking)

Aah!

Rupert!

Whoa!

Ugh!

What?

A flying carpet!

Thank you!

Thank you?

That’s funny, I was expecting a

loud thud.

Amazing!

A flying carpet!

And a friendly one at that.

Oof!

Seems a bit standoffish to me.

Here, carpet!

Come on, carpet!

How about a quick flight around

the clearing?

Hey!

Stop that!

Down, carpet, down!

(Laughing)

I don’t think it wants to

give you a ride, Bill.

But it does want the lamp.

Well, it’s ours!

We found it!

Finder’s keepers.

Ow!

Now cut that out!

Maybe it belongs to the

carpet.

That’s better.

Is that your lamp?

Did you drop it?

You see?

Well I just might be willing

to hand it over.

In exchange for a ride ’round

the clearing?

Now that’s not asking too much,

hm?

You see, Rupert?

You just have to know how to

handle carpets.

Whoa!

Higher, go higher!

Just our luck to get a flying

carpet that’s afraid of heights.

I get the feeling it doesn’t

want to be seen.

Is it something to do with this?

I think it wants me to rub the

lamp.

Rub it?

What for?

Bill!

Do you remember the story of

Aladdin?

Yes!

He found a magic lamp and when

he rubbed it--

A genie appeared!

And granted his every wish!

I wonder if--

Rub it, Rupert!

Rub it!

(Screeching)

(Gasping)

I don’t supposed you wished for

a giant black eagle, did you?

No.

(Screeching)

BOTHWhoa!

Whoa!

Aah!

Ugh!

(Screeching)

It’s coming back!

BOTHWhoa!

Remember you told me you woke

up this morning feeling there

was an adventure just around the

corner?

Yes?

Well next time you get that

feeling, do me a favour, would

you?

What’s that?

Go back to bed!

(Screeching)

RUPERTWhere do you think

he’s taking us?

BILLDon’t ask me!

Unbelievable!

(Screeching)

(Screeching)

It’s like something out of a

dream!

Strange, it’s totally

deserted.

(Trumpets blaring)

(Armour jingling)

Not anymore.

They’re bowing!

Does this mean they like us?

I doubt it very much.

MANWhere is it?

Where is it?

Where is it?!

Give it to me, give it to me!

Ah, safe.

Safe at last.

Yow!

As for you, you moth-eaten

doormat, you will regret this

thievery!

Take it away!

(Whispering)I don’t like

the look of this.

Come out, come out, whoever

you are!

I am the Sultan of Shandalar.

Welcome to my humble palace.

Thank you.

My name’s Rupert and this is my

friend, Bill.

From Nutwood.

(Snapping)

I thank you for returning my

precious lamp.

Well actually, we didn’t have

much choice.

If it weren’t for these two

boys, you would still be chasing

that thieving carpet, you

overgrown canary!

(Snapping)

(Chuckling)

How did you do that?

Merely a simple magic trick

to amuse my honoured guests.

Come, I’ll show you to your

chambers.

Thank you, Sultan.

But we should be getting back to

Nutwood.

Oh, piffle!

It’s too late to go gallivanting

off to this nut place of yours.

You shall be taken home in the

morning.

Tonight, you shall be my guests.

Come on, Rupert!

Don’t be a spoilsport.

How often do we get invited to

stay overnight in a golden

palace?

Invited?

Or ordered?

BILLFountains flowing with

freshly squeezed orange, grape

and pineapple juice!

More sweets than we could eat in

a hundred years!

And a bubble bath the size of a

swimming pool!

You were right, Rupert.

We shouldn’t stay overnight.

We should stay for a whole week!

I don’t think it's so great.

Well, if there’s something

more you’d like--

(Impersonating the Sultan)You

need only ask and I shall see

that it is so, my most honoured

guest!

(Chuckling)

Admit it, Rupert.

It was a stroke of luck coming

across that carpet.

It wasn’t so lucky for the

carpet.

It deserves whatever it gets.

It stole the Sultan’s lamp!

It didn’t strike me as the

sort of carpet that would steal

things.

Unless it had a very good reason

to.

(Chuckling)

What are you talking about?

(Whirring)

And where are you off to now?

I’m going to have a look

’round the palace.

There’s more to this than meets

the eye, I’m sure of it!

Oh, hello!

I just thought I’d--

I thought I’d say goodnight.

Well, goodnight!

There are guards outside the

door, they won’t let us leave!

We’re not guests here, Bill.

We’re prisoners!

(Munching)

Prisoners?

I’m going to see if I can

find a way out of the palace.

Keep talking to me.

I am talking to you!

I mean after I’ve gone.

They’ll think I'm still here.

(Loudly)Yum, yum!

Chocolate cake!

Mm, my favourite!

Um, well Rupert, good cake,

eh?

(Munching)

Now, now, Rupert.

Where are your manners, talking

with your mouth full like that?

(Jingling)

(Jingling)

SULTANI am the master!

And you should not forget that

you are my sl*ve.

I thought keeping you under foot

would be amusing, but the joke

is wearing thin!

Burn it!

(Laughing maniacally)

RUPERTNo!

Now, couldn’t we discuss this?

Yow!

Thank you again!

That’s the second time you've

saved me!

(Fanfare blowing)

That’s torn it!

Now we’re really in trouble!

What’s that?

You want to hear another joke,

Rupert?

Oh, alright, since you asked so

nicely.

Um, why does the tin whistle?

(Imitating Rupert)I don’t

know, Bill.

Why does the tin whistle?

(Fanfare blowing)

Uh-oh.

Rupert, you don’t think that

might be--

(Doors opening)

An alarm?

(Blades slicing)

Grape?

There he is!

Bill!

Rupert!

Where have you been?

You’re angry?

How do you think I feel?

Here I was talking to him all

this time and he wasn’t even in

the room!

Let’s go!

Are you alright, Bill?

Just fine, thanks.

Aren’t you overreacting just the

teensiest bit, Rupert?

Perhaps you’d like to ask

them that question.

No, thanks!

I don’t think they're in the

mood for a friendly chat!

I think we’ve given them the

slip for now.

Look at this!

I’d say the city of Shandalar

has seen better days.

What sort of ruler would let

his people live this way while

he sits in palace covered with

gold and jewels?

Not a very good one.

More than likely an evil one!

We’d better find somewhere to

hide.

I get the feeling our friends in

the black turbans don’t give up

easily.

BOTHWhoa!

Now what?

Your trusty carpet has run off.

I think we’d better make a run

for it as well!

Wait, Bill!

I’m sure the carpet wouldn't

desert us.

Well, I’m not so sure.

For all we know, it might--

Shh!

Alright, alright.

I owe the carpet an apology.

(Jingling approaching)

BOTHPhew.

Yah!

Have no fear.

If you run from the cursed black

turbans then you are surely

friends.

But what has brought you to the

unhappy city of Shandalar?

Actually, it was a rather

large eagle.

It’s a long story, but it all

started when a golden lamp fell

from the sky!

A golden lamp?

Yes.

Our friend here dropped it and

then--

The rumours in the

marketplace were true!

An enchanted carpet truly did

steal the golden lamp!

BOTHYes!

Where is the lamp?

Do you have it?

We gave it back to the

Sultan.

Aye-yah!

He is not the Sultan.

He is an evil genie who has used

his black magic to enslave the

people of Shandalar.

An evil genie?

Well, that would explain the

magic tricks.

Shandalar was once a place of

unsurpassed beauty, governed by

a wise and gentle ruler.

Our people knew nothing but

happiness!

But then, the evil genie came

with his enchanted army of black

turbans and now we know nothing

but fear and misery.

But isn’t there some way to

stop him?

Ah, my young friend.

You do not realize how close you

were to bringing light to this

dark city.

You see, to control a genie, one

must possess the magic lamp from

whence he came.

Then, a single rub would force

him back into his lamp,

imprisoning him there forever

and a day.

I told you to rub that lamp,

Rupert!

But why did the carpet bring the

lamp all the way to Nutwood?

Why didn’t it bring it here to

Shandalar?

It was being chased, Bill!

By that giant eagle, remember?

I doubt I’ll ever forget.

What happened to the real

Sultan of Shandalar?

Alas, no one knows.

Maybe he just ran off.

I can’t say I'd blame him.

Ow!

What did I say?

Or perhaps the genie cast a

spell over the real Sultan!

Is that it?

Ow!

Alright, I take it back!

You didn’t run away!

Sali?

It’s truly you?

Aye-yah!

Our well of despair is truly

bottomless!

And to think we had the lamp

in our hands!

We’ve got to get it back!

But the genie will have the

lamp hidden away in one of the

thousand towers of the golden

palace, guarded by the black

turbans.

It’ll be like trying to find

a needle in a haystack.

Well, the first thing to do

is to get the genie to show us

where he keeps the lamp.

Uh-oh, he’s got a plan!

Hear me, oh evil genie!

I command you to show yourself!

(Thunder booming)

Well, well, well.

So the mouse has returned to the

lion’s den.

(Laughing maniacally)

You will not live to regret this

act of foolishness!

I demand that you return the

stolen riches and restore the

rightful ruler of Shandalar!

You dare to command me?

Obey me, or I’ll rub this

lamp and banish you inside it

forever and a day!

(Gasping)

But how?

Got you!

(Laughing)

Did you truly think I could

be deceived by such simple

trickery?

I sentence you to eternity in

the Tower of Despair!

Be gone!

Bring me the carpet and the one

called Bill!

Ransack the city, destroy

everything that stands in your

way!

I have spoken!

Oh no!

If my plan doesn’t work, I've

made things worse for everyone!

(Sneezing)

Bill, did you see which tower

he went to?

Yes.

Hurry up, Rupert!

I think I’m allergic to cotton

wool.

(Sneezing)

(Chirping)

(Sneezing)

Shh!

It’s time to put that genie back

where he belongs.

Shoo, little fellow!

(Laughing maniacally)

Surprise, surprise!

(Laughing)

The next time you decide to

have an adventure, I think I’ll

stay behind.

(Laughing)

The trouble is there won’t be

a next time for either of you!

That’s what you think!

Now, Sali!

Yikes!

No!

Rupert!

(Straining)

Hang on, Rupert!

Uh-oh!

(Jingling)

Ugh!

Get away!

Give me my lamp!

Rub the lamp, Rupert!

Rub it now!

No!

Aah!

Phew!

That was close!

(Straining)

Is he in there?

He’s in there.

Doesn’t this mean we get a

wish or something?

No!

Sali?

That’s the Sultan of

Shandalar?

He’s certainly not what I'd

expected.

I am Sali, the Sultana of

Shandalar.

BOTHYour Majesty.

I know you’ll keep this

somewhere safe.

Yes, please do.

SALIMy dear friends, you

have given Shandalar a new life.

I only wish there was something

I could do to reward you.

Well, since you insist--

Ow!

We’re just glad we could

help, Your Highness.

Yes.

Your thanks is reward enough.

I was only going to ask if I

could have another bubble bath

before we go.

At least promise you’ll visit

us here again in Shandalar.

We’d love to!

But there aren’t too many flying

carpets in Nutwood.

Ah, but there will always be

one there when you need it.

Farewell!

Bye!

Flying carpets, an evil

genie, a golden palace!

Mum and Dad won’t believe their

ears when I tell them all about

it.

I can hardly believe it

myself.

I wonder--

Come on, Rupert.

Haven’t you had enough of

carpets to last you a lifetime?

I was just thinking about

what Sali said.

You know, about there being a

flying carpet around when we

need one?

Do you suppose that’s true?

You never know, do you, Bill?

You just never know.
