Welcome aboard flight 23a,

Connecting service to bangor.

Fourth row, on your right.

Fourth row, on your right.

Hi there, fellas.

You are in the front row,

Either side of the aisle.

Thank you.

[Indistinct chatter]

Well, hello there!

Hi.

"Flight 23a."

You're on the right plane.

- Do you want me to
- help you find your seat?

I'm good.

- Flying
- all by yourself

- Sure is exciting,
- isn't it?

[Mutters]: I wouldn't know.

It's my first time

Flying ever.

Thank you, sir.

Tenth row,

On your left.

[Exhales wearily]

Welcome!

- Second row,
- on your left.

Thank you.

Welcome aboard.

Second row, on your left.

[Overhead door thumps]

Hi there!

Fifth row,

On your right.

Hi. I'm josh.

- You headed out
- on business, josh?

I'm headed to a pretty

Important meeting myself.

Welcome aboard.

[Cabin bell chimes]

They supposed to do that?

[Lights buzzing]

[Relieved sigh]

Nothing to worry

About, kid.

I totally wasn't worried.

[Takes a breath, sighs]

Hi there!

What's up

With the hand, kid?

It's nothing.

Something wrong with it?

No.

- It's just something
- my dad taught me.

If I ever get nervous,

Or worried about anything,

I should just focus...

On keeping

My hand steady.

It's supposed to relax you,

Or distract you,

Or something like that.

My dad says

A lot of lame stuff,

But this is okay.

Thought you weren't

Nervous, kid.

I'm not. See?

And I'm not a kid.

Hey, so what do you

Think this means?

- You get used to
- flying alone.

I do it all the time.

It's great.

No one else to worry about.

You just sit back

And enjoy the ride.

All right.

- Hey. You see them load
- that coffin into the cargo hold?

There you are,

Living the dream one day,

- The next,
- you're luggage. [Snickers]

- [Second guy]:
- yeah, well,

- At least they get
- to stretch out.

Did you hear that?

There's a corpse

Onboard.

Right below our feet!

[Engine humming]

That's creepy.

But it's kinda cool.

It's not "cool."

- It's disrespectful
- is what it is.

Crew should've loaded

The body privately.

- Give the poor soul
- some dignity.

Show some respect.

"Show some respect."

Totally.

You're totally right.

Oh!

Please, come in.

Take your seat.

Thank you, dear.

[♪♪]

Nothing

To be nervous about, child.

I'm not nervous.

Everything is happening

As it should.

[♪♪]

[P.a. System chimes]

- Ladies and gentleman,
- in preparation for take-off,

Please stow

Your carry-on luggage

In the overhead compartments,

- Or under the seat
- in front of you,

And ensure your trays and seats

Are in the upright position.

Thank you.

[♪♪]

[Engine rumbling]

[Sighs wearily]

How long

Is this flight?

You in a hurry?

To see my lame dad

And his lame girlfriend?

[Scoffs]: no way.

- Don't want to see
- your own dad?

I guess.

I don't know.

- It's just, ever since
- my dumb parents' dumb divorce,

Dad's been all, "a boy needs

To spend time with his father,"

- Even though
- I totally don't,

- And him
- and his new girlfriend

- Totally don't even
- want me there.

I mean, I can totally tell.

- It's like, "you're divorced,
- I live with mom.

Can you move on, already?"

Moving on is tough,

- Especially
- from a divorce.

You divorced?

- You gotta be married
- to get divorced.

Work... Work keeps me busy.

I don't like

Being tied down.

Yeah. Me neither.

Excuse me. Miss?

[Indistinct chatter]

Miss?

Excuse me?

[Indistinct exchange]

[Sighs]

- You had to take
- the puddle-jumper

With no first class.

[Thunder crashing]

[♪♪]

[♪♪]

[Wakes with a gasp]

[♪♪]

- [Josh, muttering]:
- it was just a dream.

It had to be a dream.

What was a dream?

Forget it.

Come on, kid! You're doin'

The hand thing again.

Something

Got you spooked?

Have you ever had a dream

So freaky,

No way it could be true?

Except...

It wasn't a dream?

I guess.

Just tell me the dream.

You're gonna say I'm crazy.

[Thunder crashes]

That lady back there,

With the knitting...

[♪♪]

For a second,

She wasn't an old lady.

She was more like...

The reaper.

[Thunder crashes]

You know... The grim reaper?

Big scary thing,

Kills you and takes...

I know who the reaper is, kid.

There's no such thing.

But, I swear, I saw her!

"It." Whatever!

Robe and everything!

Lower your voice.

You're gonna freak people out.

You're freaking me out.

- You're definitely
- freaking yourself out.

[Sighs]

- You need
- to clear your head.

Tell you what...

Get up, stretch your legs.

You'll feel better.

Knew I shouldn't have

Said anything.

[♪♪]

[♪♪]

- She started staring at me...
- How'd...?

- Soon as you walked by!
- Really staring.

- You satisfied?
- Now you've got me thinking

That sweet old lady's

- Some kind of soul-collecting
- ghoul on a k*lling spree.

I swear, I felt her eyes

Boring into the back of my skull

As I walked by.

- Here, let's see
- what she's doing.

[♪♪]

[Dryly]: knitting.

Of course.

- That seems
- innocent enough.

[♪♪]

Oh! No!

- No, no, no, no, no!
- Not possible.

I told you I wasn't dreaming!

- What would the reaper even be
- doing here? What's it mean?

- I don't know!
- But it can't be good.

- Maybe it means
- the plane's going down.

Aww! She's gonna k*ll us all!

- Or maybe
- she's just here

'Cause of that dead body?

It's dead already,

- So maybe she just wants to
- collect its soul or spirit,

And take it wherever...

Yeah... Makes sense.

- So, then, this spirit would be
- on the plane somewhere.

- Too bad we don't know
- who it is, though,

- So we could warn 'em
- and they could run away.

F-float away. Something.

What are you, crazy?

You wanna mess with the reaper?

The angel of death?

No way.

Look, I'm the adult here.

I say we go back

To our seats, lay low,

Stay out of her way.

Go on!

[Louder]: go on!

[Thunder clapping]

Go on!

[♪♪]

[Mutters]: come on.

- Don't leave me up here alone
- with the reaper.

There you are.

[Gasps]

How'd...?

You were just...

[Dark theme plays]

No...

[Thunder crashes]

It's you.

- You're the corpse.
- You're a ghost!

Don't you say that!

- Ladies and gentlemen,
- this is your captain speaking.

- We've turned on
- the seatbelt sign.

- Nothing to worry about,
- just a little turbulence.

All this time,

- I've been sitting
- next to a ghost.

How'd I miss that?

Your body's right below us.

[♪♪]

[Exhales anxiously]

- You're trying to get her
- to take me instead of you?

[♪♪]

[Gasps]

- No standing in the aisle
- during the flight, sweetie.

You need to take your seat.

No. But...

My seat's uncomfortable.

Really?

- You have two whole seats
- to yourself.

[♪♪]

[Thunder crashes]

I can't.

[Firmly]: now. Please.

[♪♪]

Did you hear that?

She couldn't even see you.

For the last time,

I am not a ghost!

[Loud zapping]

- [Passengers gasping
- and crying out]

- Whoa.

- Wha...?

- You really don't believe me,
- do you?

Hold your hand out.

- Why?
- Just do it.

[♪♪]

No...

[Electricity buzzing

[Sporadically]

[Thunder rumbling]

Don't think that's ever

Gonna calm me down again, dad.

I remember dying now.

[♪♪]

- [Tires squealing,
- metal crashing]

[Gasps]

Car accident.

It wasn't pretty.

I'm sorry.

[Sirens and emergency responders

[In background, indistinct]

So I'm dead.

This is it.

You work your whole life

To enjoy the finer things...

A nice home, a sweet ride,

And this is how it ends?

Flying in some...

Podunk puddle-jumper?

I don't even get a gulfstream!

[Panting anxiously]

[Vincent continues

[Hyperventilating]

Dude...

- I think
- you got bigger problems.

[♪♪]

[Whooshing]

[♪♪]

Why now?

- I think it's 'cause
- she can't take the spirits

- Until they know
- they're dead.

[♪♪]

Well, then I'm not dead!

No way! I'm not!

- [Electrical feedback whines,
- passengers crying out]

- There's something wrong with the
- plane's electrical system,

I'm tellin' ya.

[♪♪]

[Gasps]

Stay away from me!

You're not taking me!

Ever!

[Loud pop and hiss,

[Passengers gasping]

- That came from
- outside the plane!

[Passengers panicking

[And crying]

[Zapping, crackling]

Oh, my g...

[Panicking continues]

- Dude! Don't you see
- what's happening?

The electricity going out?

Stuff breaking down?

You're making that happen...

- Every time you get mad
- or resist the truth or whatever!

- Like you said... You can't
- mess with the reaper!

What's gotta happen,

Has gotta happen.

Right?

[♪♪]

I'm sorry,

- But you gotta
- go with her,

- Or you you'll bring down
- the whole plane.

[♪♪]

[Roars]: so? I'm dead already!

Remember? What do I care?

[Alert dinging]

[All panicking, belts clicking]

[Plane hull shuddering,

[Passengers freaking out]

- Oh! Help us!
- Help us!

Ladies and gentlemen,

Please stay calm.

The captain has informed us

- That, as a precautionary
- measure,

- We're diverting
- to the nearest airport

For immediate landing.

For your own safety,

I must insist

That you stay in your seats.

Relax, kid.

Everyone's fine.

[Cracks neck]

Except yours truly.

- I'm sorry.
- You've got to go with her...

Or we're all going down.

[♪♪]

Please.

You're in charge.

Can't you

Just let him go?

Doesn't work that way.

[Whoosh]

How does it work,

Exactly?

- So far, all I've seen
- you do is knit.

- As far as I'm concerned,
- you can just knit-knit-knit,

- 'Cause I'm not going with you!
- Ever!

- [Thunder crashes,
- alert klaxons start blaring]

[Passengers crying out]

[Gasps in horror]

- I think the other
- engine has stopped!

[Gasping]

- [Second man cries out]:
- what's happening?

- Can we land?
- We're gonna crash!

- [With p.a. System failing]:
- ladies and gentlemen...

[Klaxons blaring]

- [Shouts]:
- ladies and gentlemen!

We need to remain calm.

The captain is highly trained in

Emergency procedures.

The best thing

That we can do for him

Is to remain calm,

So that he can focus on

Doing the best job that he can,

- And resolve this matter safely,
- for all of us.

So, please, I need you

To remain in your seats,

Seat belts fastened,

In the brace position.

Is this really

What you want?

To k*ll us all?

It's not fair!

You got to have a life.

It ended too soon, sure,

But it was a totally cool life.

And don't all these people

Deserve that?

My life really seemed

That cool to you, kid?

I made a heck of a good living,

Sure...

Had a nice loft,

Sports cars,

Traveled all over,

First class...

Mostly.

The truth is,

Something was missing.

I never had a...

I never got a chance to...

You never got the chance

To what?

You were totally free.

That's just it...

I never had to think

About anybody but myself.

The thing is,

That can make you...

Hard...

Untrusting, and selfish.

I never even

Made a connection.

I never made

A true connection.

You mean love?

Getting married?

More than that.

The truth is,

- I don't even think
- I have any real friends.

Up until now,

I didn't even care, but...

I doubt anyone's even coming

To meet my body.

It's my own fault.

I pushed away

The people

That were closest me.

That way, they couldn't

Let you down.

[♪♪]

Exactly.

How do you know so much

About this sort of thing?

Kinda sounds like

Me and my dad.

I've been really hard on him

Since the divorce.

I guess he's been trying.

- Yeah. He's having you
- come visit.

Maybe I thought

If I acted like I don't care,

I wouldn't care.

And him being gone...

Wouldn't hurt so much.

I guess

That's kinda selfish, too.

You're young.

And alive.

You can change.

So can you.

How?

You can go out

Saving an entire plane.

By moving on...

Do something

Totally unselfish

And way cool.

[♪♪]

[Sighs softly]

Okay.

[♪♪]

I'm ready.

[♪♪]

[Soft whooshing]

[♪♪]

[♪♪]

You're gonna be all right, kid.

[♪♪]

[Exhales]

[♪♪]

[Clicking]

[Surprised gasps]

We... We have power!

[Relieved gasps

[And light laughter]

The engine's on!

The engine's on!

- -[Cackling gleefully]
- -whoo!

We're okay!

[♪♪]

[Wheels hitting tarmac]

[♪♪]

- Your dad's waiting
- for you inside.

You must be excited

To see him.

[Chuckles]: I am.

- I feel like I could
- kneel and kiss the ground.

?me too, but I don't want

To get my suit dirty.

Oh. One sec.

So... I think

I get how come

I was the only one

Who could see him.

We were kind of alike,

And fate or something

Wanted us to meet

And help each other

Figure that stuff out.

Right?

[♪♪]

Well... I figured.

Later.

[Grim reaper]:

Without a doubt.

[♪♪]
