- I can't believe we're actually

going on a field trip to the Amazon jungle!

- Yeah, me too!

- I wonder what kind of animals we'll see?

- I've been reading up on the Amazon,

and there's a pretty good chance

we might see a real panther!

- Wow!

- So anyway, my teacher says there's lots of birds

and stuff down there.

- Oh, wow!

The Defenders of the Earth are here!

- L.J., I am very pleased that you and Rick volunteered

to chaperone Kshin's class field trip.

- Jedda was the one who volunteered.

But then she caught the flu

and volunteered us to take her place.

- Hey, you guys are the Defenders!

- And who might you be, young man?

- I'm Marty Thompson!

And you're Mandrake the Magician!

I'm a magician too!

Watch this!

Alakazam!

- Not bad, Marty Thompson, not bad at all.

- Oh, wow! That was great!

- I believe this is yours.

- Unbelievable!

- Kshin, you and Marty better get going

or you'll miss your flight.

- Okay. I'll miss you.

I'll miss all of you.

- We'll miss you too.

Have a good time, and be careful!

- Don't worry, I will.

Come on, Marty, let's go!

- I haven't seen you much at school.

- I'm new in town.

My family just moved to Central City.

- Oh, this is great!

How are we supposed to look after a handicapped kid

on a field trip?

- I suggest you look after Marty

the same way you look after the other children.

- I agree.

- Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised

if young Mister Thompson

winds up looking after the two of you.

[laughter]

- You're kidding? - Nope.

It says right here that some jungle snakes

can grow up to feet long!

- Boy, I hope we get to see one!

- Hey, Kshin, what are you talking to him for?

- He might have some kind

of contagious disease or something!

- Huh?

- Yeah, kids like him

shouldn't be hanging around normal people like us!

- What are you talking about? Marty's normal.

Sort of...

- Hey, Kshin, you want to see this?

- Huh?

Uh--no, no, I'm not really interested.

- Now, I want everyone to remember

there's absolutely no danger here

as long as everyone stays on the path

and follows instructions.

I'll be pointing out some interesting sights

as we go along, so pay attention!

- Hiya, Marty! Anything I can do for you?

- No, I'm fine. Leave me alone!

- Hey, man, what's your problem?

- Um, Kshin, we got to talk.
[ … ]

- Sure, L.J., what's up?

- What's up is what went down back on the plane.

I mean, those two guys you were hanging out with

talked about Marty like he's from another planet,

and you fell for it!

- Yeah, but--

- No buts about it!

Marty's a great guy, and you know it.

- But the guys think he's different.

- Sure he's different. We're all different.

You're short. I'm tall.

I'm black, and you're yellow.

And what makes Marty different from those guys is,

he lives in a wheelchair.

That's all.

- Then being different is okay.

- It's more than okay, Kshin.

- See you, L.J. I got to go!

- Where are you going? - To catch up with Marty.

- Move along, students, move along!

Well, Rick, isn't this

a wonderfully educational experience?

- Yeah, sure, Mr. Woodley.

I just hope we don't meet any cannibals

with the munchies!

- What a silly thought, Rick!

- I guess I'm just a silly guy!

- Um, Mr. Woodley,

these dudes do not look like they're here to party.

- [stammering] I better talk to them.

[sighs]

- It's time for a little hocus-pocus.

- Alakazam, alakazoom,

here's some magic that ends with a boom!

Wow, that was one great smoke b*mb!

[all screaming]

- Form a double line. No talking in the halls.

- Mr. Woodley, wake up!

- Where are we?

- We're in the Amazon jungle!

- [gasps] Amazon?

- Oh, no!

Rick, grab his legs and let's get out of here!

- L.J., we can't carry this guy

all the way back to the campsite!

- Marty, come on, let's go!

- Hurry, Marty, hurry!

- Come on, you slowpokes, let's move it!

- This is ridiculous!

- Rick, stop!

- What's the matter?

- Where's Kshin?

- What do you mean, where's Kshin?

He was here a second ago!

- Hey, what's going on?

- Kshin's gone!

- Don't worry, I'll find him!

- Marty, wait, come back here!

- That will be three demerits for talking in class!

- Uh-oh!

- Incredible!

- Hey, this guy's a robot!

Marty, I owe you an apology.

- Nah, forget it. You don't owe me anything.

- Well, at least let me thank you

for helping me out back there.

- You needed all the help you could get!

[both laugh]

- Yeah, don't remind me.

- [mutters] No gum chewing in my class.

What happened?

- Kshin and Marty are lost.

Everybody else ran back to camp!

- You've got to get back to the camp

and radio the Defenders for help.

- Yes, yes! I'm on my way!

- The camp is that way, Mister Woodley.

- Oh! [chuckles]

Yes, yes!

- I didn't know that you knew

how to track people in the jungle.

- I don't.

- Oh, great.

- Hey, what are you doing down there?

- Just hanging out!

Oh, wow!

Do you realize what that is?

- Looks like some kind of farm.

- Those roboships belong to Ming the Merciless!

- You're kidding!

- And I bet you Ming built those robot-headhunters

to scare people away. - But why?

- I don't know, but you and I are gonna find out!

Come on.

I wonder what Ming is growing flowers for?

Hey, what-- it's some kind of gas!

[coughing]

- Kshin, are you okay?

- I think so.

I can't move my legs!
[ … ]

- Stop fooling around, Kshin.

Those ice robots will be back any second,

- I'm not fooling around!

That gas must've paralyzed me. I can't move my legs!

- You're serious, aren't you?

- Yeah, I'm serious!

- Oh, no!

Hold on. I'll get us out of here!

Now climb into my chair.

- What are you gonna do?

- Don't worry about me! Hurry!

- Marty, I can't make it!

- Come on, Kshin, I do it every day!

Try harder!

Let's get out of here!

Go, Kshin! Go!

- What do you mean, go?

I don't know how to operate this thing!

- Well, you better learn fast!

Pretty nifty flying, huh?

- Great! Now just get us back down!

- You got it!

- [screams]

What happened?

- You turned the power off!

- How do I turn it back on?

- The red button! Press the red button!

[both screaming]

- I think I'm getting the hang of this.

- I think I'm getting nauseous.

Kshin, they're catching up! Give it more speed!

- Hang on!

- Hey, I think we lost them.

- Jump!

- Kshin, help!

- I got ya!

- Well, well, well,

if it isn't little Kshin, Mandrake's son!

Take them to headquarters immediately.

I'll interrogate them there!

[both shouting]

- Suppose you tell me

what you were doing on my property?

- Go suck an egg!

- You impudent brat!

- We're not talking.

- I will extract information from you

in a more painful manner!

Come, Garax.

- Master, this room is not secure enough

to hold enemy prisoners.

- Enemy prisoners? [laughs]

These feeble little crippled boys

pose no threat to Ming the Merciless!

Once my paralyzing flowers

have been planted around the world,

all of mankind will be like them,

helpless and pitiful!

[laughing]

- He's right. We are helpless and pitiful.

- Maybe you are, but not me!

We're gonna escape!

- Escape?

- You forgot? I'm a magician!

- We're over the area

where Kshin and Marty were last seen.

- My powers will be of much greater use to us

on the ground.

- Okay, Phantom, good luck!

- By Jungle Law, the Ghost Who Walks

calls forth the power of Ten Tigers!

- Think it'll work?

- I don't know, only one way to find out.

- Phantom, how did you get here so fast?

- For you, the jungle is filled with obstacles,

but for the Ghost Who Walks, the jungle is a friend.

A friend with unwelcome visitors.

Flash, do you read me?

I have found Rick and L.J.

- I'll home in on your signal and be right there!

- Hurry up, get in the chair!

- Oh, no, you steer this time!

bothOh, no!

- Look out!

- Keep firing!

- Hold on, Kshin! Hold on!

- Let's move!

- The cavalry has arrived, Phantom!

But first we have a little business to attend to!

- Those fools!

- Shall I send up more roboships, Master?

- No, I have a better idea!

Activate the field monitor.

[laughs] Perfect!

Turn on the sound waves that trigger my lovely flowers.

The paralyzing gases will fill the canyon

and force all the Defenders to their knees!

- Yes, Master.

Initiate paralytic fumigation.

- Don't touch that button!
[ … ]

[both laughing]

- sh**t them! sh**t them!

- Hey, Marty, you think we'll have to write a report

on our field trip for school?

- Probably, but who's gonna believe it?

[both laughing]

- Why, you...

- Hey, Ming, you looked better with the mask on!

- Come back here with that gas mask!

- This can't be happening!

Now it's my turn!

- Oh, no!

- What's the matter?

- My chair is running out of power!

We're not gonna make it!

- He's coming, Marty! Ming's coming!

- I'm doing the best I can!

- [laughing]

- Come on! Come on!

- Now, you pay for your impudence!

No! Not you!

Get out of my way, you fool!

Kids!

- Look out!

- I can't help but wonder

if we've rescued Kshin and Marty from Ming

or rescued Ming from Kshin and Marty!

- Now just relax.

We'll get you to the hospital in no time.

- Hey, wait a minute.

My legs!

I can feel my legs again!

- Careful, Kshin, take it slowly.

- No, I'm okay, really!

The paralyzing gas must've worn off!

I'm okay, Mandrake! I'm okay!

- Thank goodness!

- I can walk again! All right! Marty, I can walk again!

Oh, Marty...

I'm sorry, I forgot that you--

- That I'll never walk?

Hey, don't be sorry, Kshin.

I learned a long time ago to live with my handicap.

Now all I want is for other people

to learn to live with it,

and treat me like one of the guys.

- You are one of the guys, Marty,

and you're also the best friend a guy could ask for.

- Mandrake, don't we have something in our by-laws

about granting certain deserving persons

an honorary Defenders' membership?

- Why yes, Flash, I believe we do,

and I think one is in order for our young Marty Thompson!
