but I don't even know if I can handle

Brian I'm an architect and we're going

to build some buildings today today I'm

going to turn you guys into Pro card

stackers cards yes card stackers so I

hold the Guinness record for the world's

tallest house of cards which is 25 ft

High weighed 250 lb wow that's right

he's a world champion card stacker he

actually has the world record so just

give it a try and see how it looks like

Noel is building a little pyramid there

so you're going with the triangles

method that's what you're thinking is

the best idea well that's a logical

assumption because the triangle is

actually the strongest structural shape

in most cases but not in card stacking I

guess it's hard to stack cards when

they're slanted the first thing we need

to do is take a look out the window at

some real buildings to get an idea of

how things are done in the real world so

what do you guys notice they're made up

of squares and right angles so these

buildings are like lots of Cubes stacked

on top of each other okay so what do you

think about the building with a clock

Tower what do you notice about that one

well it's different from all the other

ones usually the older ones are like

small but that one's really tall it's

like almost as tall as the more Modern

Glass one well that's because that was

one of the first buildings in the city

to be built with a steel frame so tall

buildings have steel frames let's go

down and take a look at a real

construction site all right let's check

what is a PSA a PSA is a public service

announcement it's like a commercial

except it's for a terrible organization

like the Animal Rescue League of Austin

we're going to use that PSA to tell a

lot of people about what we do so do you

know much about the Animal Rescue League

of Boston I I'm guessing they just help

animals in need yeah we have animals in

our shelters we rescue animals in

trouble we need to tell our story to a

lot of people people and that's why we

need this PSA the public service

announcement looks like we got to get S

on our PSA well listen before you go

going on in there seriously what are

what are you doing here's my friend quad

hi I'm in charge of the field operation

here and uh watching all of these guys

helping uh helping build this building

wait wait wait a minute we need to stack

cards not build buildings what you're

looking at here is what we call uh

exoskeleton it's like the bones in your

body that's what really is supporting

the uh the building that's the grid that

withstands all the forces that people

and nature put on it can you uh talk to

us a bit about why they put concrete on

every floor the concrete we put on the

floor is not just because it's a hard

surface to to walk on that concrete when

it hardened actually acts as a diaphragm

a stiffener for that building so that's

all part of the structure of the

building so why are the beams shaped

like that we call it an I beam so what

is an ie beam if you look at the end of

it cut a slicer and look at the end of

the beam it looks like an eye and the

two outside flanges reinforce the web in

the middle and that the two faces

stiffen that Center section so that

everything is stiff and can withstand

the pressures that are put on it thank

you oh thank you so what does this

construction stuff have to do with the

car what's neat about this is that you

can really see how all these little

parts of a building go together in kind

of a a system that's very repetitive to

create a much larger thing and so that's

kind of the point of you seeing a real

building going up a lot of the way that

cards go together oh yes they're going

to use what they know about real

buildings to make a building out of

cards wow Chad's got a lot of stuff is

is that a ping pong table and a

Jacuzzi all right so let's figure out

these Keys maybe oh yep there you go we

cute he is where do all these animals

like come from we get animals for all

different reasons some animals are

turned in from their owners because

they're moving or they have allergies

some animals are brought here because

they're lost and some animals were

brought here because people weren't

being nice to them and they needed a

safe place to go until they found a new

home would you guys like to have a tour

of the shelter yeah def wow look at that

setup fet's got a hammock I want a

hammock so these are our

ferrets oh hey pardon you this is Satia

he's an angor

rabit he's very very soft feels like a

marshmallow and right around this way we

have kind of an unusual animal what is

it an elephant oh that's definitely a

corn snake a what a what would you like

a chance to hold him definitely no

snakes I hate them all right we're back

at our construction site these are your

building materials we have observed the

construction of actual buildings now

Noel and Jay are going to make a house

of cards using lessons they learn from

that construction site you have to learn

to put these four cards up first so this

is the first cell and everybody that

wants to build a house of cards that's

going to last has to learn how to build

those without fail and the reason is is

because this card would like to bend

like this but it can't do it because

each card is reinforced by its neighbor

at its midpoint so like this card right

here now it has a neighbor on this side

forcing it to stay upright okay let me

try that yeah no maybe it's what nope so

let's try to build a bigger grid and see

what happens when we do that ched I'm

trying to build a structure here please

it's basically a bunch of interlocked

eye beams there see it looks just like

foundation is ner wracking I know I know

I know are you doing a lot better than

me so just put another card right there

and we're fine okay so they're building

their

just rebuild that side all right we only

lost a little bit so we're good there

looks like they're putting some cards on

top just like a roof looks good now they

repeat the same pattern on the second

level steady easy Noel breathe I got the

top off finish the top that is a pretty

getting ready to earn some points of

their own during the halftime quiz show

time and are afraid of people so here we

have our stuffed dog that we pretend

with and you want to make sure that you

use something that the dog likes today

we have dog food in there OHS tossing a

few egg rolls and you got a meal and

then it's possible to catch the dog

using the net

I see you sorry about that it scared me

so bad you're more than welcome to use

this for your PSA if you'd like yeah

it's great A lot of times cats get stuck

up in trees and so we use these ropes to

get the cat and bring the cat back down

oh that's Brian he's part of our Rescue

Team hey Brian this is where we practice

rescuing cats out of trees maybe you

guys can use it for your PSA yeah that'

be great that's a good idea so what's

the bag on your hip this is what we use

when we get up in the tree oh no to put

the cat in we want to make sure the

animal is nice and secure and safe

before we come back down this is our

animal ambulance and we use this to

bring animals that we've rescued back to

the shelter or to a veterinarian well

it's very common for these stuck around

any any animal's neck so I think the

phone call should be your cat got its

head stuck in that mhm and then it got

scared and it ran up the tree all right

open that up there now they're putting

the pictures in order to map out their

story maray why don't we do this and

then after that we can show the real cat

saying it's it got saved so all write

are structural some cards are not

they're being held up by the building if

you look right here there's a whole

bunch of cards that are just sitting on

here and they're not really holding a

whole lot you can take out surprising

amounts of cards soon you can take out a

whole Corner the more cards you pull out

the more points Ruff will give you but

the tower has to stay standing we can

pull these out they decoration yeah yeah

get rid of those they're not doing

anything

up the tree and wait for us to come down

there 3 2 1 you know an animal's getting

rescued when you hear

that okay apparently I don't have a tall

enough tripod now it's time to rescue

the cat from the tree so what we need

you to do is take the cat and put it in

the bag and then just come

down cats in the bag get it a okay

apparently some people around here don't

like cat
