Yo, Wong!

What's the story, morning glory?

This one's in the plea bargain stage with the Almighty.

Oh, yeah?

Wong: A .45 hollow point tends

to put you in that situation.

Torres: Shh... - What's goin' on?

A 17-year-old tagger caught two in the ten ring.

His partner's in surgery now. Hit twice.

- Perps? - No one yet.

A couple of .45 shell casings 12 feet from the body, though.

- Witnesses? Torres: Phew!

What, are you kidding me?

So, uh, what's this?

- Something personal. - Oh!

You got another date with that donut-shop girl?

Hey, I'm just messin' with you. It's a joke.

I'll touch him all over. Talk to you after breakfast.

I never missed you once, Wong.

Nice to see you back, detective.

[instrumental music]

Man 1: Alright.

[indistinct chatter]

[instrumental music]

[sighs] Ashes to ashes, dust to dust...

and all that good stuff.

[instrumental music]

[breathing heavily]

I'm sorry, Sandy.

[sighs]

[exhales sharply]

I'm back on the job.

BS'd the shrink...

leaned on Cooper, helped Eddie

and this new girl

bring down some biker. [sighs]

But thing was...

I didn't even care.

I keep havin' this dream

that I-I almost save you...

but I'm always too late.

And he's standin' there laughin' at me.

Baby, if they let him walk...

I don't know what I'll do.

Hobson: Now let's run this again.

You think you might've k*lled somebody?

No, no. I did k*ll somebody.

This is preposterous!

Don't get yourself in any deeper.

No, you entrapped me, you little sl*t!

- If I were you, I'd shut up. - Oh, you think I'd pay you?

Have it your way.

- Name? - Paul Wentworth.

- Address? - 1299 Park Avenue.

- Phone number. - 555-0122..

Paul: What the hell are you.. - Mrs. Wentworth?

This is Detective Moreno at the Fourth Precinct.

Your lowlife scum husband just offered me $50

to perform an oral sex act.

Cooper: Glenn Holloway. He couldn't be cleaner.

No priors, no parking tickets.

Guy probably never spit on a sidewalk.

He's a bond salesman down on Wall Street.

What? That give him a license to carry?

Well, he used to be a parole officer.

So he probably made himself some enemies.

- Lawyer? - He's on his way.

But Holloway's been mirandized already, wants to get started.

Then why'd he wait for hours to turn himself in?

Hm. Let's do this.

You're very well turned out today.

Thank you.

You were, uh, lookin' for another job,

you'd let me know, right?

It's not like that.

So you went home to get cleaned up?

I was agitated. I wanted to take a shower and calm down.

And they might've chased me.

- They travel in packs. - Oh, yeah.

Williams: What the hell were you doin' up there?

That neighborhood at 4:00 in the morning?

It's ten blocks from my home.

And I believe this is still a free country.

That it is, but most people know to stay out

of certain neighborhoods at certain times.

I pay my taxes. You're telling me I can't go wherever I want?

One of the guys was shot from behind, twice.

They came at me. I defended myself.

Oh, he come at you a*s-backwards?

One of them had a box cutter,

the other had his hand under his shirt.

Alright, well, we're gonna have to hold you

until we find out what's goin' on.

Whoa! Whoa! Not in one of those tanks. I can't go in there.

Hey, that dude was buggin', talkin' about

cleanin' the streets and all that.

Yo, where's he at, man?

You let us worry about that.

That means he gets what the system gives.

- What else you need? - I don't know. We'll see.

[sighs] Dude walks, damn right you'll see.

that punk back at the precinct.

Like I said, people are fed up, you know?

Look at this, man. Man, you cannot tell me this is artistic.

- This is ugly. - Yeah?

Well, it don't make it a capital offense.

I'm not sayin' that, but if I saw a kid doin' this

on my building, I would definitely step to him.

You know what? I used to tag all over the city.

Subways, buildings, you name it.

Yeah. I used to shoplift, but that don't make it right.

Yeah?

Nobody shot you for it, did they?

Glenn: Yeah, I'll be at home...

Ah, but why don't you call me tomorrow any time

after 9:00 at the office?

Okay.

[telephone ringing]

What, the DA cut him loose?

There was no reason to hold him.

She'll present what she has to the grand jury.

They're either gonna indict or they won't.

Yeah, because he shot two Puerto Ricans, they won't.

Maybe they won't because he acted in self-defense.

- Oh, you really believe that? - I believe...

That he went there looking for trouble.

But that's not against the law.

And as far as what went down after that,

no one saw but Ramon and Glenn.

Yeah, since Ramon's got a permanent

tan, no one's gonna believe him.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

He also has a record.

He was carrying an unregistered firearm

and committing a misdemeanor.

What about being shot from behind?

Please, any good lawyer'll say he reached around, turned with

something in his hand, blah, blah, blah.

- You know the routine. - Yeah.

I also know the DA'd damn well file

if Ramon shot some white dude.

Well, maybe not, if the, uh, white dude pulled a g*n.

Now, look, Torres,

you're a good detective and you've got good support here.

So if you think you can build a case on this, then go ahead.

Jesus: Yeah, that's you! Glenn: Keep him away from me!

Oh, you come on, that's intimidation,

pure and simple. You can't let that slide.

[scoffs] Does she seem very co-operative to you?

I'll sick Moreno on her.

- Good luck, Ed. - Alright, man.

Yo. Don't be too hard on him.

[instrumental music]

Williams: What was this about, anyway?

Gregory: Nothin'. I was mad.

Getting mad doesn't mean you hit somebody.

- Kids fight all the time. - I'm not talkin' about kids.

I'm talkin' about you.

Now, what'd he do to you? Say something racial?

[sighs] Kids don't do that at my school, dad.

It's progressive.

Well, then what was it?

It was something stupid, alright, he said somethin'

about my socks, and I just blew up.

So you disrespect your teacher?

When he broke up the fight, I was still mad. But I apologized.

And got suspended.

My hormones are actin' up. Happens at my age.

Boy, don't you get wise with me.

Well, what are you gonna do, spank me?

What is in your head?

- Well, what's in yours? - Excuse me?

[sighs] You ask me and I ask you.

Let's go. Let's go!

Look, I'm not paying all this money to send that boy

to a school to turn him into a wise-a*s.

And I'm not tryin' to make excuses for him,

but you know this is not just about school.

So what, thi-- this puberty stuff?

And you.

Here we go again. What did I do?

Nothin', JC. That's the problem.

The boy's fine. He's got sports. He's got his friends. What?

You hardly ever call him.

Well, he doesn't call me.

You know, JC, you don't think

that he worries about what might happen to you?

You know, when Sandy was k*lled, he lost somebody, too.

I'm sayin' he's 12 years old. He need reassurance.

Alright, he-- he needs you to see him.

Else I really believe this is gonna continue to happen.

Look, look, don't-- don't give me all this psychological stuff,

alright? It's got nothing to do with me.

Yeah, it finally got you over here, didn't it?

[indistinct chatter]

Aye, mamita! Tu eres layla, oh yea.

- Te gustas? - Oh, si.

Much more becoming than biker leather, huh?

Oh, and the offers at those mid-town hotels

sure beat the pay up here.

But think of all the good you're doing for humanity, though, huh?

[chuckles] A city councilman

gave me that very line this afternoon.

Wanted a discount. He's in lockup.

I expect nothing less. Listen.

Could you check out something on this tagger sh**ting for me?

You and your partner can't handle it?

This needs the feminine touch, the girl that hangs out

with the taggers, her mother's really pissed about it.

Maybe there's something there. Hey.

If you find something, I owe you big-time.

I always knew you were big-time, Torres.

Mike: I never thought the day'd come when

I'd be pickin' up trash.

It's a job, papi, you know? You're makin' money.

Mike: Better than being strung out somewheres, I guess.

Hey, you goin' to the meetings?

Hi. My name is Mike, and I am a junkie.

Well, hi, Mike. How is it hanging?

Happy, joyous and free!

Hey, thanks. Alright.

You get to play much now?

I had to hock my sax.

Couple of paychecks, I'll get it out.

Business, Eddie.

Having your own business, that's what it is all about.

Yeah. It's all about a lot of work and a lotta headaches, too.

Hey, a man's gotta have a dream.

Yeah.

Remember when I taught you how to play ball here?

Guess I was screwin' up then, too, huh?

Listen, you get older, you forget the bad stuff.

Hey, it's something to look forward to, right?

[instrumental music]

Glenn: I just want their threat on the record, you know?

They said I had to pay for their quote, "Homeboy," unquote.

Well, you have been gettin' a lot of press.

That could be anybody.

Well, maybe it's time the good guys

got some press, huh?

So you're the good guy, Glenn? [chuckles]

- Something to drink? - No, thank you.

Have a seat.

You know, I was a parole officer for five years, detective,

in my youth, full of high hopes.

House calls to the South Bronx, Harlem.

Helped 'em find jobs, counseling.

I put in so much time, my wife left me.

That's why you got paid the big bucks, just like me.

Then they send me this con who did a bit for armed robbery,

Jimmy Arcemont. Good kid.

Had some trouble when he got out, but I vouched for him,

got him his job back.

Then he k*lled them all.

- All who? - A whole family.

His boss, the guy's wife, his 12-year-old-son.

They surprised him one night, ripping off their house.

The wife's sister spat on me at the trial.

That's not your fault. Besides, he was one guy.

Arcemont was garbage,

and I didn't see it.

But that family...

Not a day goes by I don't think about every one of them.

[sighs] You're young, detective.

Someday you'll see. They're all garbage.

There's a lot of garbage on Wall Street.

Well...

Hey, I just buy and sell pieces of paper,

and what they mean isn't my business.

Then why do you feel the need to patrol the streets at night?

Maybe I'd like to think my life wasn't a total waste.

[train chugging]

Ramon: Street's callin', five-o.

Gotta get Miguel's name in lights, after I'm finished

bombin', ain't nobody gonna forget about him.

Where you stay at? I, I can't even find an address.

Pshh. Wherever, man. I'm around.

All this stuff in the papers.

Even the TV people talked to me.

- They're smellin' blood, man. - Are you gonna give it to them?

Yo, what I do, I do for me and for them.

She was Miguel's woman. How do you think she feels?

Look, let it go. There are other ways.

Oh, come on, man.

Let me tell you somethin'. I'll take care of my kid.

I'll take care of my job. Forget you.

Yeah. Just like Mr. Marine Corps did?

Yeah. Bother me again. Make my afternoon.

No. I don't wanna bother you, Clint.

You such a righteous citizen and all.

But we be doin' our thing. You know what I'm sayin'?

Yo, Anile, where's your mom at?

Talkin' to that cop.

Holding back isn't gonna help.

I mean, whatever happened, you have to do what's right.

These kids need to see that.

Okay.

Five nights a week I walk from the subway,

up the stairs.

Right around 130.

So you saw the whole thing?

He shot him from behind, lady,

while Ramon was trying to run away.

He was in no danger at all.

And you'll swear to this in court?

On the Bible.

Why didn't you tell us this earlier?

Miguel...

he make Anile pregnant.

She had an ab*rtion.

Didn't tell me till later.

Everything I work for...

my religion, her life, it's going out the window.

When I see Miguel and Ramon lying there,

I say, "Good, they're off the streets."

"Forget it."

And tonight you bailed them out.

They're my people. What can I do?

Hm.

[speaking in foreign language]

Gracias.

Torres, Moreno, I thought you and Williams like this collar.

We got a witness on Glenn.
