(intense, suspenseful orchestral music)
(lightning cracks)
(mouse squeaks)
- Hello, one and all.
Welcome back to another thrilling episode
of Mice and m*rder.
I am your humble dungeon
master, Brennan Lee Mulligan,
with me as always is our Sylvan Sleuths.
Say hi, Sylvan Sleuths.
- (all) Hi, Sylvan Sleuths.
- Ah, wonderful.
Last we left our animal investigators
they were in Loam Hall,
gathered in the seance room,
having put together
all the various comings
and goings and clues.
We had Lars Vandenchop discover
the sort of kitchen
wing and the whisperings
of some of the mouse maids.
We had a look into a portrait
with secret eye holes
and discovered a secret
study within the seance room.
We had a little bit of a butting of heads
between Sylvester and Daisy.
The vicar attempted to perform last rites
over Squire Badger, and
it really didn't go well.
And a tremendous sharing of
information and knowledge
and splitting up that
has now brought us back
to attempting to solve
whatever happened in this room.
What I'd like to go ahead and do
is have a quick roll of initiative.
Everybody here, please roll initiative.
- What, first thing?
- I just want to see
who's going to go first,
'cause it's actually very time dependent
to sort of see what happens.
(Ally gasps)
- Oo, who here, did
anyone roll above a 20?
- I got a 20.
- A nat 20.
Oh Buckster got a nat 20.
- Two nat 20s on the same team, baby.
- Wow.
- Woo, doctor and a dirty 20.
- I got a 20 as well.
- Did you roll a 20 or it's modified 20.
- 17 plus 3 so yeah, so that.
- So a dirty 20 and two nat 20s.
You guys come down the stairs together
and we go back into the
kitchen wing with Lars, Gangie,
and Buckster, with those
incredible initiative rolls.
I'm actually going to ask
for stealth rolls with
advantage from everybody.
- Oh yeah.
- Well, I'm going to need it.
Oh, that's another natural, nat 20.
- Oh my god, back to back.
- First two of the entire campaign.
- Psychotic.
- Oh my f*cking god.
- I did not do well.
- Well, all of you come downstairs.
You hear that there's some
noise of people talking
up in some of the other
wings of the house.
Obviously the drawing room is filled
with people as is the sort of ballroom.
It seems like things have come
down and most of the people
in the house are waiting for
the constables to arrive.
As Sylvester is now coming,
you see Sylvester, Daisy and
Ian go off into the study.
The three of you go
into the back hallway of the kitchen wing.
Go ahead and move yourselves
wherever you would like
as you move towards the elevator.
You see some closed doors
behind what you don't hear any noise
but you do hear some noise
from people talking in the kitchen.
It's not like some of the
staff are, against all odds
doing the job of like cleaning up dinner.
You know, the work continues
even as your boss is dead.
There's a new Squire Badger after all
- Does it seem like we can make our way
to the elevator without being spotted?
- Oh, on your guys' stealth,
you hit a nat 20,
what was Lars and Gangie's stealth rolls?
- 16.
- 11.
- 11 and 16, well Gangie,
your stealth is good enough,
actually, even at 16
with Buckster's nat 20,
he's going to pass you guys
over most people's passive perception.
I think you guys have to
be in this place where
if you actually do your
sneaky f*cking sneaking
you'll almost be more conspicuous.
So I think you guys are
just sort of calmly walking
down the hall, more, keeping
a low profile than actually
like creeping, if it makes sense.
You suspect Buckster on that nat 20
that you have a very short
amount of time that basically
like wandering back here into the kitchens
is a little bit shady,
but you have a moment to
do what you need to do.
- Cool and then.
- [Brennan] Go for it.
- Very quickly, I think we should do
maybe not an investigation
but we should look into
the elevator to see
if, A, there's a key hole in it,
and B if there's any indication
of a top floor that's,
or a third floor, that's
not the second floor.
- Awesome, everyone go
over to the elevator
and I would like you to,
the roll that you will need
to get that information Buckster,
is going to be investigation checks.
However, if there are
other skill checks you
would like to make here in the elevator,
you are welcome to do that
but it might not give you
that specific information.
Like that kind of like tactical,
like how does this work,
here does it go, is definitely
an investigation check.
Let me know what skills you were all doing
as you enter the elevator.
- Gangie and Lars, do you guys
have investigation at all?
I have a two.
- Ah ha.
- I have a two as well.
- I have negative one so
I can give either of you
the help action.
- So okay, so I think as
you arrive here, Buckster,
I think you're probably, you
probably know like, hey, no one
like there's a reason you
keep Daisy on your payroll
and it's because she excels
at things like this, right?
So I think what I would
say is go for perception.
You won't get the same
caliber of information
but you will be able to notice stuff.
If there's another skill
people would rather do here
feel free to do that as well.
So everyone here perception is probably
the one you're looking for.
If not, you can tell me another
one that you want to try.
- I got a 25 perception.
- 25 perception from Gangie, holy sh*t.
- I only got an 11.
- I'm going to try to do investigate
and just see if I get a nat 20.
- Cool.
Cool.
(all laugh)
Well, actually here's the thing.
I do want Lars to roll this with advantage
'cause Lars was in this elevator before.
- Oh, right, okay, so
that was a 13, oh, a 5.
- Awesome, Gangie, with a 25 perception,
you do see a, there is a keyhole,
there's like a little sort
of latch door and a key hole
that has like a breaker switch.
Mr. Gilfoyle has put the
breaker switch to negative
to shut that off.
Obviously there's keyholes
all over the house.
So Buckster, you're not certain
if this key would be the one
to this one, whatever it
is, you do know that Mr.
Gilfoyle would have to have a
copy of it because he clearly
was able to open this thing to
put the breaker switch down.
So it's up to you to decide
like would Squire Badger
keep a, like let his butler
have a copy of this red silk
key on his person to also
be able to move about
or is something else going on?
We don't know, Gangie, with that 25.
- Yes.
- You see that there are some
muddy boot prints in here.
You spot the key hole, you
spot the breaker switch
and you see that there is a
general like up and down button.
There's a lot of like
scrapes on the ground coming
to and fro and I think
with that perception check,
you smell mushrooms.
- I smell mushrooms.
- You smell mushrooms,
you smell mushrooms.
- Mushrooms, what animal
is into mushrooms?
- Uh, you are Sam.
(Sam laughs)
- Oh, I forgot to tell everybody I did it.
- I mean a pig, a truffle sniffing pigs.
- Gangie, I also will say you come
to this elevator all the time.
This elevator, you know, goes up and down.
To the best of your knowledge
this elevator is just a
freight elevator for servants
both servants that are arriving at work.
It's also where in the dark of night,
you meet Mr. Harding
at the top of the hill
where the elevator opens
deposit the body with him
where he watches you head
back to your groundskeeper's
cottage and disappears down
with the bodies to the
kitchen wing of this thing.
- So there's three, if there's
two, wouldn't that person
see if there are three levels, then.
Harding would know right,
'cause he'd pass through.
- Well, you've also taken
the elevator during the day.
And there's, you know
for a fact that there
is no second story.
Like there's, like to the
best of Gangie's knowledge,
it's possible that there's
like a secret door,
but like you've written
in the elevator before.
It goes up to one of these
little tower type things
up in the, like that
pokes up above the ground.
So there's an above ground
entrance where staff can come in.
And then when you, when
the breaker switch is on
you press the down button, there's
like a green and red like up
and down button and thing.
You press the down button
and it goes down to.
- The kitchen.
- It goes down and as it's
going down, there's just,
it's a see-through door.
It's like one of those sort
of accordion steel grates
and you just see the stone shaft
as it like goes down, as it
goes down, the elevator shaft.
Could be like a secret door in the stone
but you have never seen a
second floor landing ever.
- So do we think if
there is a third floor,
it is a basement, is that what that means?
The third floor goes down.
- I mean, wasn't there
some bit, maybe I'm wrong.
That, about the windows,
also, I'm not there,
so why am I talking?
But, that one room was the
only one that had windows
and there's all these I don't,
I don't know, leave me alone.
- I think because we
have limited time here
before we get snuffed out.
I might try my key just for,
you know, due diligence.
But if it doesn't work
- I think so.
let's get out of here
and head back upstairs.
- I am going to need a
sleight of hand check.
- Oh no.
- From Buckster.
- Uh oh.
- Everybody, this is not going to go well.
I've got a negative two sleight of hand.
- Oh god.
- Oh boy, that could
be worse, that is a 13.
- Buckster you put your
key into the thing.
First of all, you opened
the little compartment.
You're going to have to throw the switch
to get the electricity
running back to the elevator.
So let me ask you this.
Do you throw the switch to
power up the elevator again?
- So there's no way that
I can just put the key in
and see if it like turns.
- Great question, okay, sorry.
So you see that there is,
you put the key, the thing
is facing down so you
put the key facing down
where you see it's as you go turn it in
and you see that the key has the like
this goes from basically
like throw the breaker
and it goes from off to on,
so you go off, it fits in off.
Do you want to try to turn it to on?
- Well, the nice thing
about it being three beasts
is that's a clear vote.
What do we think everybody,
who's pro and who's con?
- Pro.
Do it.
- Pro.
- You're all cons.
- That's me, I'm con but
I'm outvoted, I go for it.
(all laugh)
- Oh, I love Buckster,
with the breakers thrown,
you turn it to on and the
little green and red buttons
light up, the up and
down buttons light up.
You've, it's in the on position, boom.
- What, what's left to do to try to do?
- Try down, try down.
- Go down yeah.
- We're going to go down.
- Yeah, let's go down.
- You press down and nothing happens.
- Up, up, up, up, up.
- Let's go up.
- Let's get out of here, I'm
sure people heard this turn on.
- Yeah.
- You all go up in the elevator.
- Oh god, oh, that's a mistake.
- You move up, up, up.
I'm going to need everyone here
to make perception checks for me.
- Hm, are we in deep sh*t.
- You're in such deep sh*t,
because what if there's someone
at the top, it's going to look
like you're trying to escape.
- That's a dirty 20.
- I got a 16.
(Rekha gasps)
- 13.
- You're looking as you go up, stone
moving past you in the freight elevator,
Gangie, I hate to tell you,
you hear shouts from
down below as the staff.
You know what?
Give me one last group stealth check.
I'm going to say this is almost more
of a luck check because
the elevator is noisy
but go ahead and give me a stealth check.
You need to, as a group, pass a 15 here.
So two out of the three of you
need to beat a 15 on a stealth check.
- I got a 15.
- Okay.
- Oh 21.
Okay!
A 10!
- Okay, okay, so f*cking miraculously,
you guys get up to the top.
You guys are looking with
those perception checks.
Gangie, you are like scanning.
The smell is mushrooms fades away
and as it does so, you arrive
at the top and don't
see any secret landing,
no secret door or anything specific.
You just get to the top and see that,
normally there's like a little barn door
on the side of the tower
here that is like open,
that's not normally like
closed and shut at this point.
It is wide open so you're just looking,
you're up on the hillside
on the side of one of these
towers, lightning, rain pouring
and then you still have
that grate in front of you.
So you're looking out
through the grate at just the hillside.
Do you guys...?
- Can I, since I saw Cottonbottom
earlier, can I peek out?
And I know it's like lightning,
it would be insane to
actually clock someone
but can I just do a scan for him or?
- Yeah, I might also
do a perception check.
- Okay, do you, right now,
you are all still in the elevator.
Do you want to like, take
a step out into the rain
and like get a good look
around the countryside around you or no?
- Maybe in order to avoid
being conspicuously wet,
I mean, we haven't talked
about how we're going to make it back.
That's not too conspicuous at this point,
but maybe we could throw open the grate
just to get a better look at what outside?
- Yeah, I think you guys,
you throw open the grate
and as you look out, it's
pitch black and it's all rain.
You guys just came from
a more well lit place,
so your eyes haven't adjusted yet.
Your eyes do adjust,
however, as lightning strikes
and a figure is not in the countryside,
it is in the doorway and lunges forward.
We're going to cut to
Grant, Rekha and Raph.
- No, no, no, no.
- Oh.
(Brennan laughs)
- Holy cow.
- I wanna get some people
making moves, wanna make moves,
let's make moves.
- Yeah.
- We cut back and leave our
companions up on the hillside
out in the storm, to go down to the study.
Vicar Prescott, Ms.
D'umpstaire and Detective Cross
walk into the study where
you see that Dr. Magpie
has sort of cleaned up
and taken his coat off
and has his doctor's tools there
and you guys see that the study is here.
No perception checks needed,
the bust of Barkus Aurelius is gone.
(everyone gasps)
- What, that's everything that I came for,
that is everything that I came here for.
- And Vicar.
- Vicar, I need you to
be cooler about that.
(Raph laughs)
- And Vicar, you don't remember the year
that was written on there.
I don't remember at all.
I just know that it was the
wrong one and we all know.
- What is the right one?
- Yes, we all know the
right one, of course.
- We're not stupid, we
all know the right one is.
- We all know what the
right one is, of course.
- It's, it's.
- Two score 13 prior to this one.
- Fifth, four.
- Eight.
- [Rekha] Six.
- It was obviously uh, uh, uh.
(Raph laughs)
- Grant, your computer's too
slow, it doesn't look cool.
- So it was obviously 180.
- B.C. or A.D. in the year of our Lord?
180 in the year of our Lord.
- Yes we all know it was
180 in the year of our Lord.
Thank you, Vicar.
- That's right, we all
knew that, that's good.
(Raph laughs)
I would like to further
investigate the wound on the body.
In particular, I would like to find
out if Buckster's knife
was actually the knife used
as the m*rder weapon.
- Incredible, you go to assist Dr. Magpie,
Dr. Magpie looks over and
says, Detective Cross,
thank you very much for your help.
Again, forensics is not my field of study,
but in a manner of autopsy,
at least I can see,
Detective Cross, have you ever
known someone to bleed out,
to become unconscious from exsanguination
in a span as short as the amount
of time from when the thunderclap struck
to when Squire Badger was
discovered, because you see
that the doctor points, it's very clear
is that Squire Badger's
a powerfully built man
and as you go down to look,
you see that Dr. Magpie
is looking, and though
the wound is very deep,
it looks like the Squire struggled
to actually pierce the rib cage.
Like you're looking at it's possible
that he like bled out from the wound
but to actually like fully
puncture your own ribcage,
like stab yourself in the heart,
it looks like Dr. Magpie
has not noticed the grip,
has not like made the same inference
about the grip that Squire Badger used
that you did and is
like, and 'cause to you,
it's like, yeah, no wonder he
didn't penetrate his rib cage.
He wasn't stabbing himself
with force in mind.
- For Daisy and the Vicar,
love that gasp from Katie.
(Katie laughs)
From Daisy and the Vicar,
both of you look up
and you see that it looks at the room
is being put back together by
a member of the staff here.
And one of the mouse maids is like
is sort of, you know, taking
all the scattered stuff
and trying to put things
back in their place.
- Excuse me, maid, forgive
me, it must be very stressful.
I know that you have a mess to clean up
and your boss basically
just fell dead tonight.
- You see that this little
mouse maid turns around.
She's got an eye patch
and like whips around
and looks at you and says,
Why, what is it? What is it you want?
- I was just wondering
if you might indulge me.
Do you, would you happen to
know, when there was a bust here
earlier of the Barkus Aurelius
and it's seems to be no longer here.
Would you happen to know
where it was placed?
- Your bust, probably not around here
because it's not from this room, you know.
Everything here has a proper place.
- Oh, I understand, I
understand, yes, I agree.
Everything in its proper place,
order is next to godliness
is next to cleanliness.
What room is the natural home
for this statue that I'm looking for?
- Li-berry.
(all laugh)
- Li-berry.
- Got it, library.
- Li-berry.
- So sweet.
- Got it, got it.
- Say it, say it again for me.
- Li-berry.
(all laugh)
- I love that she just shouts it at you.
Thank you so much for your time.
I'm so sorry to disturb
you, terribly sorry.
- Yeah, busts going all
around every which ways.
It's awful, right, because
everything has a place
in the house, so.
- Your accent is simply beautiful.
(all laugh)
- Get off it, you're cheeky.
- I am known for a bit of cheek, yes.
- Ha ha, how much cheek would you like?
- Oh, from the looks of
things, it looks like
you have quite a bit to offer.
- Oo.
- In a good way, in a good way,
I meant that as a compliment.
- Give me an insight check real quick.
- And I want to let you know
that Daisy rolls her eyes
fully all the way around in her head.
(all laugh)
- 15.
- 15.
- Um, 16.
- 16, oh yes, yes, yes, there you go.
She gives you a look
that basically amounts,
you can tell, well, on
a 16, either she wants
to fight you or she's looking at you
like let's get out of here right now.
It's you know, take your pick.
- My dear either way,
I haven't the time, but good night to you.
(all laugh)
- All right, offer still stands,
so she goes back to dusting.
- Offer to what?
- Wait, offer, yeah exactly.
- I'll either k*ll ya, or
f*ck ya, offer still stands,
just come find me in the li-berry.
- We'll see how that goes,
we'll see which one I need.
(Brennan laughs)
- Daisy does one of these.
(Raph laughs)
- Oh what, do you want it yourself?
- No, are you kidding me?
- Oh no, oh no.
- The food was bad enough.
I don't need to cap it
off with something worse.
(Brennan laughs)
- Incredible. Daisy and Vicar,
what do you guys do now?
- I am going to get all
up in this f*cking desk.
Let me investigate the
sh*t out of that desk.
- Okay, awesome and Vicar,
are you going to head back
to the "liberry" upstairs?
- Yes, sir, yes sir, yes sir.
- Cool, you head back there.
I am going to need some checks.
You head back to the middle door
in the leisure wing of the house, Vicar.
I'll start, first of all, with Sylvester,
you go over to attend to Dr. Magpie.
Go ahead, if you would be so kind,
and unlike investigation
where you can't roll
beneath a certain number, this one
is actually a little bit of risk.
I'm going to need a medicine
check from Mr. Cross.
- Yes indeed.
Nat 20, baby.
- Are you f*cking kidding me?
(all gasp)
- For a 26.
- Oh my f*cking god.
- Well, you know what they say?
The best laid plans of mice and m*rder.
(all laugh)
- Daisy's eyes roll 35
times back in their head.
- Jealous, are you jealous?
- Oh my god.
- Jesus, nat 20, Grant what the f*ck?
- Sorry about it, sorry about it.
- You see, whenever I do well, it's like,
it's like a little flash
in the pan, but Sylvester
just f*cking raking it in
and that makes me weak.
That makes me weak.
- Between that and my puns,
you're really doing great tonight.
- Oh my God, eat my a*s Sylvester.
- Eat my whole a*s.
- I offered and you didn't seem interested
way back then.
All right, interesting
body, as I investigate.
Oh, now I see, ah yes, a wound,
doctor, do you see here this wound?
- Ah, I have just texted you Grant.
So Daisy, while Grant is
reading that and figuring out
what happened, go ahead and
give me your investigate check
here for the desk.
- Okay, Daisy, there's
nobody else in the room.
Ain't nobody else in here.
- Well if Dr. Magpie, yeah, so sorry.
- I know all you f*cking
people are in here
but I just need to
focus, 'cause if I think
of that man being in this room,
I'm gonna lose my g*dd*mn mind.
26.
- Oh sh*t, um, hell yes, hell yes.
Oh my God, this is, I'm f*cked.
Ah, incredible, Daisy.
You are riffling through
the desk and find exactly
as you would imagine,
it is a desk for show.
None of Squire Badger's
real f*cking business
is in this desk.
This study is a little
meeting room for him.
It's not the real f*cking deal.
You do find here, however,
two things of interest.
You find a bookmark that is
in the drawer of his desk,
that has a little scratch
thing that just says P318.
And it's a lowercase P so P318.
- Ah, page.
- God damn it, Rekha
got that in real life.
That was not even a f*cking clue, f*ck.
- My mind didn't go there at all.
- Great.
(all laugh)
- The other thing you find
is this, you realize how
incredible this house, electrical
lights through everything.
This place has not really been
rurally electrified before.
And you remember the lights flickering
when the lightning struck.
As the desk is bolted, you
open a secret compartment
in the back, you like pull the drawer out,
reach under the compartment
your hand is shocked badly
and you whip your paw out.
There is a live wire in the
back of the desk, a source
of power, and as it sparks, you noticed
with that 26 investigation,
I'm actually going to text
you this Rekha, secretly,
hold on one second.
- This is just the nude Grant
was talking about earlier.
(all laugh)
- What do you think?
- Do we know exactly how he died then?
Because we don't know.
- No, no we don't.
- We don't know how he died.
- No, we don't know what did it.
- Cool, so Rekha, I just
texted you your little secret
that you found and Grant, you have yours.
Grant, Dr. Magpie passes
the scalpel over to you
and what does Sylvester
do as the physician
passes you the instrument?
It's been a moment since
Sylvester plied his doctor's trade
as he did back in the day.
That's right, Sylvester
was a physician in the Navy
when he first came out of school.
Oh yes, those days of
youth were rakish ones.
You see, Sylvester Cross
was a man of many appetites
and though he was stationed on the shore,
he had time to attend to
each and every one of them.
You see, oh, oh, well, in
any event, let's have a look.
So Sylvester, perhaps a bit sheepishly
because he's being watched
by a practicing physician,
uses a good amount of
force to get past the ribs,
and in fact, as he does goes even deeper
than the chest wound that
he notices on the body.
Really has to push deep
and thinks to himself
that wound isn't all that deep.
So he goes further past the past the ribs.
- You see Dr. Magpie sees the look
of concentration and focus on your face
as you seem to have found
something that he hasn't
but also sees you deepening the wound
on a dead man and goes,
oh my god, Mr. Cross,
what are you doing?
You're pressing deeper
in, surely the wound
doesn't go that deep.
- No, the wound doesn't
go that deep at all.
In fact Doctor, in your
professional opinion,
without piercing the ribs on the chest,
there, frankly, aren't all
that many major blood vessels
until you get to the heart.
You say this man died of exsanguination.
What blood vessel could he have pierced?
This is not the wound that k*lled him.
- Then what the devil was?
It's the only wound we found on the body,
it's the source of all the bleeding.
- I don't know.
- Incredible, so you so
Sylvester, but you do press deeper
because you are seeing, there is.
- A bit of resistance.
- Yeah, there's resistance
but you push through
because you do see the signs
of somebody who bled to death.
And as you push through
you open through the ribs,
blood gushes out of the
chest cavity as it does,
Sylvester, you see it and
pull a fragment of metal
out of Squire Badger's heart.
Doctor Magpie's eyes go wide and Daisy,
you get your realization
and turn around in time
to see Sylvester produce this chunk
of metal from Squire Badger.
- What is that?
- Oh.
- Lead.
- Don't, don't ingest it.
- Don't eat it.
- Rust.
- You're really getting,
getting all up in that.
- It's a fox thing, it's a fox thing.
- Iron ore.
- Oh my god.
- All the way in, does it need to go
into the back of the mouth?
(all laugh)
- That hit your uvula.
- This is disgusting.
- I don't care for this at all.
- This is a bit of shrapnel
from the Schnauzer Wars.
These dare I say.
- Oh, mm.
(Brennan laughs)
- Raph going nuts.
This bit of shrapnel is
very, very similar, my god.
- What, what is it?
- To the munitions moved
by Fletcher Cottonbottom.
(Brennan gasps)
- You see, yes, as you
do it, this is a bit
of Bavarian shrapnel
from the Schnauzer w*r.
You're certain of it.
Distinctive taste only
found in certain mines
in the Bavarian mountains.
You've spent an entire
summer three years ago,
tasting metals, you know
exactly what this is.
- This is good Brennan, this is real good.
(all laugh)
- Thank you, incredible, incredible.
So you see Dr. Magpie looks
and says Squire Badger
was serving there as an officer
at the beginning of the w*r.
He retired partway through the w*r.
I don't, I don't, how
was Squire Badger k*lled
by a piece of shrapnel from a
w*r that ended four years ago?
Well, I reckon somebody
has a b*llet right now.
- That's one theory,
may I present another?
- Of course you have to.
- You know, it's probably
going to be more right
than your theory but just as I'm guessing.
- Yeah, copy that.
(Raph laughs)
- And, this is me as both the character
and Grant speculating.
(all laugh)
This is metal and we
know that in this room,
there's a source of electromagnetism.
Could it be that this bit of
metal was flung into the heart
of Squire Badger in a moment
of electromagnetic fit?
Can I run it, can I run
it, can I roll to find
out if I'm right about that?
- You hit a nat 20.
Sylvester, you say, as you're
sort of ruminating out loud,
like could it have been
the piece of shrapnel?
You guys, this has been in
Squire Badger's body for years.
- No, no, I'm wrong, I'm
wrong about what I just said.
This has been in this
guy's body for years.
- But you are right about
the electromagnetism
a hundred percent.
Sylvester, you realize that,
'cause it's like, the
magnet, it scattered things
poltergeist, everything like that.
You realize that the magnet,
that the magnet could have been
the thing that k*lled Squire Badger,
if someone had knowledge that the shrapnel
was already close to his heart.
- And let's say I said all
that out loud and doctor,
as we entered the pericardium,
did you see that gush of blood?
Why this man bled internally.
It was not the knife wound
that k*lled him at all.
It was this.
(Brennan gasps)
- You see, he calls out and says,
everyone into the ballroom at once.
We have an announcement to make.
And you see that Dr. Magpie
looks back at you, Sylvester
and says, piece of shrapnel
from the Schnauzer w*r
that that was lodged
inside, and Sylvester again
on that Nat 20, you see an
old scar on the side of Squire
Badger's chest from where
shrapnel might've entered
his chest all those long
years ago, where a piece
of metal might have lived for
years and years and years.
And he looks and says, a
piece of shrapnel living
inside his chest, poised,
locked just outside his heart,
perhaps poisoning him or making him sick
unable to continue fighting in the w*r.
And it looks up and says,
a burst of magnetism
potentially pushing the
shrapnel further in.
And he looks at you and says
and Squire Badger took the knife
and looks at you being
like, he took the knife.
That's, Mrs. Molesly was wrong.
He wasn't trying to k*ll himself.
- I'm the one saying this.
He wasn't trying to k*ll himself at all.
He was trying to dig the shrapnel
out of his heart to save his own life.
(Brennan makes thunder sound)
- Thunder rolls, you guys turn
as you hear other people
shouting and people rushing
into the dining room to have
this announcement get made.
Daisy, you see Sylvester, Dr. Magpie turn
and start walking out of the room.
You've had your revelation as well.
It's up to you whether you
want to reveal it or not.
Is there anyone else in
this room, let's see.
- So wait, so Sylvester
and Dr. Magpie leave?
- [Brennan] Yes.
- Okay, who's Rosalind Crumb?
- Oh, that's the maid.
- Oh, the li-berry woman.
- Li-berry.
- Okay, now Ms. Crumb.
- Hi.
- Hi, now let me ask you.
Does anybody dig here into this desk?
- Dig in the desk, I feel
like you go the drawers
underneath when you take it out.
- Yes that is what drawers do honey, now
but I'm asking you does anybody
but the Squire get their
little paws into this desk?
- Nobody been in the drawers
or anything like that
'cause they gotta wait
there for private business
but be a little cheeky,
they go right snoopy, maybe.
- I'm sorry, I have to
stick my head back in
just one more time, oh
mama, okay, goodbye.
- Well, gee, why you ask about
your drawers or your desk?
- Well I'm just saying, I
did a little poking around
in there and I thought I saw
something a little strange
and I was just wondering if anybody else
besides him would have reason to go
into his desk or knows, you know,
or has dug into his desk before.
Or maybe did, before the m*rder occurred.
- It used to be people
come round here going here,
whatever, look for the elevator,
come round to fix or other.
- You saying people that come
around and fix the elevator.
Sorry, it's so hard, I just
get entranced by your accent
so sometimes I get
distracted, repeat yourself.
(Grant laughs)
- Li-berry.
(all laugh)
- Yes, li-berry, I agree,
I couldn't agree more.
But you said something
about people going around
and fix the elevator, what was that?
- For a thing to come
in because other people
for Squire Badger to come
in to talk about people,
friends, the experts, go ahead
and make a persuasion check, Daisy.
(all laugh)
- That is an 18.
- 18, hell yes.
You see she looks up and
says, ah, come to think of it,
there was just people come out,
little bit of a donny brook,
cuffle fuffle,
because someone expert showed up
for the fix elevator but
it was when the Squire
was in London town and normally
Squire don't come around,
don't ask for the elevator to
come around with the experts
when he's not at Loam Hall.
- What?
- And that's when they took
the desk and bolt the desk
to the floor and that's
when they did the work
because in the last couple of years
don't get all the
electricity in the house.
- Oh.
- Makes perfect sense.
(all laugh)
One more question for you.
Is there a book maybe on
this desk I'm not aware of,
something Squire likes to page through
from time to time.
- Something he like to page
through from time to time.
- And don't you dare
say it's in the library.
I believe, I believe
something might be in here.
(Raph laughs)
- You see that she, she looks and says,
Squire Badger only takes the
books out of the li-berry
and bring them to study but
one book always come out
from the desk, and you
see, she points over
and hands you the Chronicles
of Barkus Aurelius
and hands you a thick tome and says,
belongs in the li-berry
though, even though
the Squire always puts it down here.
- Oh, that's so crazy.
You know, maybe, I'll go ahead
and return this to the
library, so you don't
have to worry your pretty
little head about it.
- Ha, your little head is pretty.
- Oh my god, thank you.
I keep trying to tell people that
but they just say it's covered with trash.
- Ha ha ha, I could clean your head.
(all laugh)
- Oh, I would simply love
to have you clean my head.
Let's get that set up for
tomorrow, how about that?
- You want to do it now?
- You want to clean my head?
- Offer still stands.
(all laugh)
- How about I'll check
back in, in one hour
with you and I'll get my head
clean, all nice and clean.
I'm going to put this in the library.
You know, I thought I
saw something real dirty
outside of this room, some nasty stuff.
You saw the Vicar, he sprayed
blood all over the place.
I'm thinking maybe the
guests will be upset by that.
If you want to go ahead
and clean the hallway.
- Eh, you want to see something
dirty inside this room.
- What?
Uh, how do you mean Ms. Crumb?
- Can I do a roll to make this happen?
- The real mystery of this season
is what is Rosalind offering?
(all laugh)
- Ms. Crumb, yeah, can
you, how do you mean?
- I'll show you my whole butt.
- Yeah, and I say yes to this.
Okay Ms. Crumb, you show me your butt.
So she turns around, I'll go look
in the book while she does that.
- Incredible, make an
investigation check with advantage.
- Okay, 25 for the first one.
- 25?
- And 21 for the other.
- In what has to be
the least sexual series
of movements you've ever
seen, Rosalind turns around,
bends over, her entire maid
outfit falls in like a ruffle.
Like it's so long, but
she bends over the waist.
She bends over the waist
so hard that her torso
and head are now upside down.
So she wouldn't be like
looking through her ankles.
But because of the way her
dress is, it falls down
around her head, so she is
now completely curtained off
from like the dress is falling.
- Do you see the roll
20 screen by the way.
- Yeah, kudos to Carlos.
- Incredible.
(Ally laughs)
- So I take a quick peek and
go, oh, okay, at her a*s.
- So while this maid shows you, again
I can't describe how wildly
unsexual this act is.
It is as dry as a bone, fully
like someone at a physical
and there's just a dead body
of Squire Badger near three feet away.
You look through on that
25 investigation check you.
- I want to turn to page
318 as well, but yeah, yeah.
- You rush over to 318 and
see Barkus Aurelius is talking
about a group of his
favorite Roman emperors.
It's a quick sequence of five emperors.
It's very, very easy.
You memorize it really
quickly because the bookmark
is like clued right to that page.
And as you look, you closed
the book real quickly,
look back up, you have
the information you need,
Rosalind again, can't see anything.
It's like again like the
way that a dress falls
around your legs, it's just
inside out having fallen
around her torso, arms and head
that are upside down near her ankles.
She gets back up like crawls
her way out of her own dress,
turns to look at you, and
says, how was that for you,
did you like it?
- Oh, honey, that was gorgeous.
You simply have to share
your cleaning routine,
that was really nice.
- Cleaning routine.
- She walks over to you and
you see that she reaches up.
She's much, you're not as
big as like the badgers
and other animals like that.
You're a little bit
taller than this mouse.
She reaches up, sort of
caresses and pinches your cheek
and goes, I'll remember you always,
and then walks out of the door and...
- Daisy get a little shiver in her spine.
- Is Daisy finally over Sylvester?
- Oh.
- What is going on?
She showed someone her
whole a*s and then went,
I'll never forget you?
- Oh my god, okay, okay, ba ba ba bum bum.
Daisy after that.
- Yeah, after that what?
- Are you going to the ballroom
or are you going somewhere else?
- So it's just me and the
dead body in this room, right?
- Yeah, absolutely.
- Is it useless for, I
mean, I feel like I'm just
following Reichenbach Falls,
but I'm like, is this his body
or is this like a cadaver?
And is that a thing that, you
know, Gangie might've set up
like a f*cking fake dead body?
I don't know, but I guess it
is because it has the shrapnel
in it, so maybe I'll move out of here.
- There's so much, I
want to say, but can not.
- You can text me.
- Or say it Katie, I would just say it.
It's okay if it's out of
character, you can say it.
- You can also text me if you
don't want to say it out loud.
- Okay, so what I was going
to say, is there any way,
remember how only Daisy saw the eyes?
- Yes.
- Is there a check that we can do
so that we know if Daisy
recognizes the eyes?
- Ah, that's great, do I?
- Daisy, you're alone with the body.
You go over to Squire Badger.
The similarities between
Squire Badger's eyes
and the eyes of the Badger Lord
in the portrait in the seance
room, are I-f*cking-dentical.
- Uh oh b*tch.
- And not only that, not
only that, but following what
Katie just said, there is
a little bit of stone dust
collected under the Badger
Lord's eyes as though
he is accustomed to pressing his face
up against a stone wall,
as though to look through
eye holes through a portrait.
- The timeline here works out, right?
When did you see those eyes?
Are we sure that you saw
living eyes at any point?
- Yes.
- Rekha or did you see.
- I saw eyes that moved
and by the time I went
to investigate it, they were
like a way for me to open
the, like, painting to see
the holes in the stone wall
into the black room.
- But the Squire Badger was
dead by the time that happened.
- But I think, I don't
think this is Squire Badger.
I think this is some f*ck' cadaver.
I think the Squire Badger's
looking at me in the wall.
- Well, it's just because
also Gangie has been taking
Badger bodies and giving them.
- Exactly, exactly, so
I think this is a fake,
but I think this is the
frickin' Doogaree Doo family
or whatever the f*ck.
- Yeah.
- The Prestige.
- So what do?
- But the shrapnel.
- Huh?
- Yeah, that's the thing, the shrapnel.
- Hey, everyone was in
that w*r, I don't know.
- I have a question, so I
know, is the seance room
that has the portrait that
is bolted down directly above
the study that has the desk bolted down?
- It is not directly above the study
that has the desk bolted.
- So that makes me think
that the magnetism only
affects these two rooms
because there's metal
everywhere that would be moving around.
So why is it these two rooms,
just the seance room, just the study?
- Totally.
- There's one other thing while we're
on this topic that I want to point out
which is we were struck
by lightning, right?
That was the event that
set off the magnetism.
- And I'll let off a little secret.
I got, because I don't
know what to do with it
because I simply don't have
the brain capacity, which is
that when I put my little paw
into the desk, I got shocked
because there is a source
of power there in the desk
and there is a breaker
somewhere in the house
to activate that source
of power or turn it off.
- And there's a breaker in the elevator.
- Exactly, so did somebody put that,
did somebody do something
where they put that key
in that thing that set that
off in the study right?
They put some other key
in that elevator breaker.
This thing explodes in the study.
- Oh.
- It's probably not the elevator breaker-
- It's probably a different one right?
- The key probably goes to all breakers.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Exactly, but that means
there's another key, right?
Or, because the key was
planted on him here.
- There has to be one key works.
There has to be another
key anyway, because Harding
and Gilfoyle, couldn't go up
and down the elevator breaker.
- Turned off the breaker.
- Yeah, where are those f*ck?
- So what do we do with this
abundance of information?
And what do I do in this sense?
- Also, this maybe isn't
actually the Squire.
- I doubt this is actually
him, I've always been like,
I don't, I think that's
a fake f*cking body.
- Check his as*h*le.
- Investigation check
would determine that?
- Can we check any as*h*le?
- That's the only way we'll
know, is check his as*h*le.
- Give me another investigation
check with advantage,
because you're by yourself right now.
- Yes, okay, Daisy.
- Get real close to that body.
- Daisy, you're by yourself,
ain't nobody here to watch you
to judge you, to say, oh
I've got a better theory.
You're just by your damn self.
Okay, 23, 17, so 23.
- Cool, you look in the desk again
and realize that there
is a secret compartment
in this desk that opens
up to a loaded p*stol.
As it opens up, you look out,
you haven't heard a g*nsh*t
in the time that you've been in here
but you're looking at
it and you're realizing
that this is an old, old home.
And you start thinking about like,
like electricity running
through something.
You don't think Squire
Badger would be super into
like having, like a dude with
a piece of shrapnel lodged
in his heart would not be filling his home
with giant magnets everywhere.
But a dude that wanted
to seem absolutely posh
absolutely would want
to electrify his home
and you see that his desk
has this little compartment
that has a drawer that
can open to a p*stol.
Looking at that, your
impression is immediately like,
oh this is just a way
for a kind of spiteful
and not all that kind old
man to have a secret weapon
at the ready if he's ever
needed to defend himself
in his home but it also is a justification
for why he would have electricity
running into this desk.
You're looking around it, also
all electricity in the home,
and thinking about what
Sylvester told you when
you guys were sort of
divulging all your information
which is that lightning struck
sort of a tower up high,
up at the top of the Loam Hall.
You're wondering if this
place doesn't have some way
of sort of powering itself,
that there is not maybe
like using a mill, using
a crank by the water,
something like that
but you know this place
has a tremendous amount of
like power available to it.
When you look at it, though,
you are looking at the area
of the desk where you found
that kind of charging station.
You touch your hand over it,
it's not crackling, currently.
Someone threw the breaker
in the time you've been
in this room, so you don't feel
the hum on the desk anymore.
But I think with that
high thing, you've noticed
and as to your questions about is this
the real Squire Badger or not.
You look at Squire Badger
and you have a distinct feeling
that something is afoot,
that you're talking about
the Burroughs family,
Gangie is going around
and doing all this grave robbing,
you look at Squire Badger
and don't know how to reconcile
the fact that this looks
and seems like the Squire
Badger that you know,
wearing the clothes you
saw him wearing earlier
this evening, crumbs of
the food that was eaten.
You do the whole genius level,
like there's the crumbs,
there's the wine I saw
him splash on himself
at dinner, there's a little
bit of Sylvester's fur
on the lapel from when they had
that interaction at the bar.
You even see on him, like
a little bit of Buckster's
like sort of hog hair
under his fingernails
from when he threw him to the ground.
So you're like, if this is a
fake, it's a level of good,
meaning that they were
able to plant this sh*t
in this fraction of minutes.
So you're doing all these
things that would rule
out your theory, this has to
be the real Squire Badger.
And yet Daisy, you can't
quite shake your hunch either.
- No, no, no, no, does
he got a god damn twin?
Um, wow.
- The Prestige.
- Does he have a god damn twin,
Lucretia, do you have a son?
- So we return to the ballroom
where the various guests
gather as Dr. Magpie alights to the stage.
Rushing from other parts of the house.
Obviously like at this point,
people have spread out enough
that not everybody is here,
but there are some people here.
So Dr. Magpie looks out to speak
to Constance and some other
folks that are around.
So he says, everyone gather around.
Daisy, it takes a lot of people
to gather, but then Daisy
you come out to see
this sort of interaction
happening as well.
You are going to the ballroom, right?
Or are you going elsewhere?
- I don't know.
I'm wondering if I should go elsewhere.
- You know that the Vicar is by himself
and was going to the li-berry.
- Let's see, what do you guys think?
- Wow Brennan, sexy.
- Yeah, do I have reason to go the library
because I have that book,
I can put it back up there
or I can just kinda keep it for myself.
I really want to like prove
once and for all that,
this is not the Squire and
I like saw the eyeballs
of the real Squire so where
do we think I should go?
- Is there like a medicine check
or like something that you can do?
- Maybe I go back to the
seance room, do you think?
And like, look at your painting
again, to like do something.
- Yeah, I would say go back,
you go back to the seance room.
- Also, Katie, my medicine is horrible so.
- Okay, nevermind, I was
going to say like, look, yeah.
- I have a one and I roll shitty.
- Okay, Rekha, I'm going
to need a stealth check
with advantage.
- Okay, Daisy, you got this.
You are not South Carolina
trash, like people said you were.
You are an independent,
strong, brave person.
That's the 23.
(all cheer)
- Yes it is.
- You see, this b*tch rolls
better when nobody's around.
- Daisy, I have to ask a question.
As you go back into the seance room
and close the door behind you,
do you keep the lights on in here or no?
- Oh, now that you asked
me, now that you asked me,
I gotta to turn these lights off.
I'm a raccoon b*tch, I live in the night.
- Oh, you turn the lights
off, cool, next thing,
we're going to cut back
down to the ballroom.
Sylvester, you take to the
sort of the stage, the dais
up at the head of the ballroom
where the band normally plays.
Dr. Magpie says, one and
all, friends and family
of the Brockhollows,
myself and Detective Cross
have an announcement to
make having performed
the autopsy of Squire Badger.
We have discovered that
Mrs. Molesly's account
of the final moments
of Squire Badger's life
was not a hallucination or a
figment of her imagination.
In fact, she witnessed real
events as they happened.
Though her interpretation
of those events...
and here he turns to
you, Sylvester and says,
does not exactly tell the
whole story. Detective Cross.
- Ah, friends and family of
Squire Badger and Loam Hall,
Dr. Magpie and I have
completed the autopsy
of Squire Badger and we have determined
that Mrs. Molesly's
interpretation of events
was in fact accurate
but well it's been said,
we've determined that Squire
Badger, the former, was not,
in fact attempting suicide,
quite the opposite.
He was trying to save his own life.
Years ago, as I speak
to many fellow veterans
of Schnauzer w*r, certainly
all of you know, the horrors
of the shrapnel bombs that were set off.
The Squire Badger the former had a bit
of shrapnel lodged
right next to his heart.
Now, as you'll recall
earlier there was a terrible
electromagnetic event that
occurred localized right
around the study that
was attracting metal.
I demonstrated it once
before to all of you,
you were all quite impressed
as you all no doubt remember.
Feel free to cheer once more.
- Professor Shellcrest is the only person
in the room who goes - "Hooray!"
(all laugh)
- Aw.
- I like him.
- Thank you sir.
The bit of shrapnel was being
attracted towards the heart
by an electromagnetic
pulse and unfortunately
our former benefactor
was trying to interrupt
the flow with a knife.
Alas, he was unsuccessful.
- Constance holds her head and
says, so it wasn't the knife
that was the m*rder weapon.
It was the electromagnetic pulse.
But there is, there is no
such object or artifact
here at Loam Hall.
We don't have a laboratory,
Detective Cross.
We don't have powerful
scientific instruments here.
This is a family home and you see
that Jeremy speaks up and
says, what's more detective,
my father, I've never heard
him speak of a shrapnel injury
of any kind, Constance, have you?
She turns and says, no,
never, I don't remember that.
Do you remember any stories
of father receiving,
having shrapnel in his heart?
And you say she does this but he says,
you know, it's from Schnauzer
w*r, Detective Cross?
- Without a doubt, it's the
same munitions moved by,
Fletcher Cottonbottom.
(thunder sounds)
- We are going to cut to the li-berry.
Vicar, you find yourself in the library
and look up and see the
bust of Barkus Aurelius.
It is on a shelf in chronological order
going up through all
these different emperors.
There are these Roman emperors all
along these sort of various shelves.
And we're going to go, let's go to Roll 20
and we'll go to that
library right now actually.
Yeah, they're in chronological order,
sort of throughout the
room, along the shelves.
- [Raph] Okay.
- And you go and see the
Barkus and yeah, see again
the date is wrong.
The date was - go ahead
and give me a history check
and an insight check if
you would be so kind.
- Oh my god, it's a nat one.
- Oh no.
- Is that for the history check?
- Yes.
- Okay, give me the insight check.
- 21.
- 21, the vicar has no historical answer
for the incorrectness
of the date on this bust
until you think a little harder
and think of the mistakes,
not of history, but of people.
- Think.
- You look at the other busts in the room
and see the next emperor in
line past Barkus Aurelius
who you see their date, their like in sort
of Imperial date, starts
the year following
this incorrect date.
There's this very simple kind of thing
that people tend to think about years
as like static blocks of time.
And you've seen people make
this mistake all the time
of like so-and-so was the emperor from,
you know 1500 to 1535 and then
from 1536 to this other time
this next person was the emperor.
But of course that's not how years work.
Someone would have been
emperor stopped probably
sometime in 1535 and
the next emperor's reign
would have also started in the same year.
So you're looking at the
sort of like end dates
of Barkus Aurelius, got the dates wrong.
And you're like, anyone who's
studied history would know
that these actually were, you
know, in the flow of time,
emperors died all the
time, the emperor's came.
But if someone was
thinking about these dates
sort of like a volume,
they might get it wrong.
And as you are thinking of that,
are you doing anything else
in the library here or
looking around for anything?
- Maybe I'm looking for
either another secret passage
or anything that looks like out of place.
- Hell yeah, give me an investigation
check if you'd be so kind.
- 13.
- You're not finding any
secret passageways here,
as you look around, but there definitely
appears to be a lot of
things in this room.
So sort of a well kept private
library, very well stocked.
You hear footsteps approaching.
Daisy, you hear footsteps
approaching in the hallway
that quickly move past your
door and the library door opens.
Vicar, you're further
in the library, walking
in through the door is
Colonel James Hawkins.
Door swings open, oh, Vicar,
what are you doing here?
There's an announcement
occurring downstairs.
I thought if you're unaware,
I believe your presence
is wanted by Mr. Cross.
- Yes, of course, I'll,
I'll be right down.
I'm right behind you, sir.
- Very well and I will be
right behind you as well, just.
(all laugh)
- You see that, yeah, he says, yes,
I do think it's a pressing matter, Vicar.
Go ahead and give me an insight check
if you'd be so kind, Raph.
- Insight's 16.
- Colonel James is a Hawk
and bird folk, you know,
you're both raptors, he's
giving you kind of imperious
look, if you didn't know
better, you might say
he's like a little bit rattled.
You see, he looks at you and says, Vicar,
I don't mean to be pushy, but I do suggest
that you make your way down there.
You don't want to be once again,
absent and all by yourself
while the goings on here in Loam Hall.
- Well, one is never alone
when they're with the Lord.
Which, of course I am, you
know, I came here without
my Bible, so I was looking
for one that I might
you know, sometimes passages escape me
and I never want to misquote the word.
And the most comforting
thing that you can provide
to someone is the word of God.
So I was looking for a Bible
that I might come downstairs
and be of more use to the group.
- He looks at you, strides over
to the wall and takes a copy
of the King James Bible
and hands it to you says.
- Damn.
- You know what, there's
actually, you know
also there, there's are really good things
to find in the, in the Holy Quran.
(all laugh)
- Go ahead and make a
deception check for me
if you would be so kind.
- In the Old Testament, in
the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads.
- Deception, I am not good, that's an 11
- Colonel James, is a plus
six, on a five or higher,
you are in trouble.
- Oh no, oh no.
- Box of Doom, you're in
trouble, five, I'm sorry.
It's a plus six, five or
higher, you're in trouble.
You want a four or lower.
- Oh, you're toast.
- Stop that, oh, oh no.
- He's not gonna tell us.
- Brennan, come on.
- Oh, I'm a dead man.
- He looks at you and
gets very close and says,
uh Vicar, you have your Bible,
there is a grieving family downstairs
that requires the administrations
of man of the cloth.
Old boy, I wouldn't want to
be in your talons tonight.
You understand what I mean?
- Yes, yes, yes, I think, I think I do,
I think I understand, yes.
- He get really close,
I think our business here has concluded.
Please do attend to Miss Constance.
- Sure yes, of course, yes.
That's what I was going to do anyway.
(all laugh)
- What does vicar Ian do?
- Vicar Ian drops the Bible
and just stomps out of the room.
- You stop out and Colonel James
closes the door behind you.
As you walk down the hall,
I'm gonna need a perception
check from Daisy.
- Oo, perception, Daisy,
you're by yourself.
You can do this, nobody's
around to judge you.
- We won't watch.
- Nobody's around...
Okay, that's a 9.
You all looked.
- You hear some muffled noises from around
and then you hear like a
plunking of like different
sort of objects around
or something like that.
You hear steps going
down the hall, past you
of what you presume to be the vicar.
And I'm also gonna need a
perception check from Vicar Ian,
at this point.
- 17.
- 17, I think you notice,
Vicar, when you passed by here,
the door to the seance
room was slightly ajar,
now is closed.
- Mm.
- Is someone in the room with me?
- Yes, there must be,
maybe I go, do I, wait,
how far behind me is?
- He hasn't come out of the room yet.
- Okay, can I open the
door to the seance room?
- Yes, but I'm going to need
you to give me a stealth check.
- Oh.
- And owls can see in the night too.
We're a match made in heaven in this room.
- 11.
- Okay, we're going to
come to that in a moment.
- Bird on bird, bird on bird.
- Daisy, you see the following.
You are looking through the
eye holes into a black room.
You are deep in the dark
hearing muffled noises.
Suddenly you see light,
you see light in the study
as Colonel James Hawkins does something
in the library that opens a
door into the secret chamber
through the eye holes of the
portrait in the seance room.
- Because the door was
somewhere in this house.
- Wow, you and Lucretia were equally right
about the events that transpired.
- When you're right, you're right.
(all gasp)
- It's ugly.
(Brennan laughs)
- You look through the eye holes.
Daisy, you see ledgers, secret
places, letters written,
all kinds of stuff in here.
You see Colonel Hawkins,
rifling through things
at light speed, stuffing things
into his coat very quickly.
And you, a moment after that,
you see him reach onto his
coat, reached into his coat
pull something off his coat,
open a drawer and throw it
into a drawer of jangling metal
things and close the drawer.
- Oh.
- You see, doesn't appear to
be touching any of the ledgers
but grabs some letters of note,
stuffs them into his coat,
take something off his coat,
throws it into a drawer,
closes the drawer.
That 11 stealth, once again,
James gets a plus six.
Five or higher is bad.
- And it was me that rolled
11 stealth, that was me?
- No.
- That was me.
- That was Raph.
- That was me.
- Oh.
- Oh.
- At the most inopportune moment.
- No.
- Vicar Ian opens the door.
Daisy, you are a ninja, you are a ninja.
Your eyes are up against the
eyes, seeing all of this,
knowing that you were in a dark room
and that it will just
look like empty blackness
unless light from the
outside, enters this room.
As the door opens, Ian steps inside.
In the Box of Doom, I'll
tell you what I rolled
after I narrate the results.
- Ah.
Ian opens the door, steps inside, Daisy
you fling a knife across the
room, into the door to shut it
just as James whips
around to see blackness.
He rolled a natural two,
you are not discovered.
- Oh my god.
- Yeah, yeah.
- Yeah, good job Ian, you did great.
(all laugh)
Truly pat yourself on
the back for that one.
- Both of you hear a stomping
outside of Colonel Hawkins.
He leaves the study, turns the lights off.
You hear a badadada of different
things being moved around.
You can hear it like
lumping movements of objects
moving in the library and then Hawkins
dips out and rushes down
the hallway past you.
We're going to return to
a stormy hillside on top.
- Oh god.
- Yo, we're f*cking in
it this episode g*ng.
A flash of lightning, as
the metal grate opens,
Buckster, Gangie and Lars
stare at the hillside.
Lightning flashes and illuminates
a figure, tall and masked.
You see a wide brimmed
hat against the rain
and a scarf wrapped many,
many times over a face.
It is, you cannot tell who the figure is.
You can't even tell what kind
of animal they are but they
are tall and wearing a long coat.
I'm going to need the three
of you to roll initiative.
- Oh, good god,
- Oh no, the dome change
colors, that means.
- Oh geez.
- Nat f*cking 20.
(all cheer)
- Hell yes, buh-buh-buh, okay.
- Oh my god I like threw out my neck.
- I'm sweating and you can see
my pit stains and I hate it.
(Brennan laughs)
- Oh this is a good one
g*ng, what a mystery.
- Okay, but also that means nothing right?
To roll like a high initiative?
- No it's great.
- That means you're going to go early.
- Yeah, you go first.
- And who cares, I'm terrible
at all things fighting.
- It's better than the
alternative, my friend,
I'll put it that way.
Here's what we're going
to do, did anyone here,
so, so what did Buckster get?
- Nat 20.
- Awesome, what did Gangie get?
- Five.
- Oh no, what did Lars get?
- Eight?
- Oh, well that's kind of
the inverse of what we want.
- Buckster you are
first to act, my friend.
Lars is in front of you
and you have the wherewithal to act
as this figure lunges
forward towards the elevator
in the side of the
tower up on the Hilltop.
- Cool, I think the first
thing I'm going to do
is try to throw the
gate back and latch it.
- Hell yeah, okay, this
is going to be, damn.
This is going to be an opposed athletics
because Lars is opening it,
but Lars is not opening it
with his full strength.
So Lars, you're going to roll athletics
with disadvantage and I'm going to allow
Buckster to roll athletics with advantage.
Let's see who comes out on top.
- With advantage you said?
- Buckster's got advantage,
Lars has got disadvantage.
Even with that, the odds are
still that Lars will win.
- Yeah, totally, what do
you have for athletics?
- Plus nine.
- I have plus two.
- I just got a 27 and a 25.
- Nice.
- So Sam, it's gotta be a nat 20.
- My first roll was a dirty 20.
My second roll is a 10.
- Oh, you go to try to shut the gate.
Lars, you've spotted it, Lars
hasn't, that's your action.
You do have a bonus action.
If you, you can use cunning action,
you can use your mastermind ability
whatever it is you want to do.
- Cool, so where does Lars
fall in the initiative order?
- After you, at some point,
Lars got an eight, yeah.
- Let's see, so it's, my bonus actions
are I can help or I can.
- Dash, disengage, or hide.
- Cool, cool, cool, I
think I will help Lars.
- Hell yeah, you see Lars,
you see Buckster try to slam
the thing shut and I think
Buckster, your help action,
you're just pointing out that a figure
is lunging out of the darkness.
Speaking of figures lunging
out of the darkness.
That is going to be our
friend, who is going to.
- Who is it again?
- Yeah, I missed the name.
- Oh who's the masked figure in the dark?
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Great question, okay, Lars's AC is 17.
The three attacks coming
from the masked figure.
- Oh, oh no.
- The figure lunges forward,
they are still outside
of the elevator because Lars
is taking up the entrance.
On their first attack
roll they got a three.
- Riposte.
- Go for it, make your
attack, Lars, do it up.
- What is that?
- Lars is gonna fight.
- If someone misses on me,
I can roll, that's a 16.
- 16 hits.
- How much damage.
- Oh, I do, oh, 17 damage.
- Oh my god.
Incredible, Lars, go ahead and describe,
this is just you fighting
with your fists basically
even though you have like
full weapons stats with them.
Go ahead and describe where
you try to hit the attacker
on their body.
- I try to knock this hat off of them
so I can see those rabbit ears.
(group laughing)
you wallop this person, boom
and you can hear a crack of cah,
like as you wallop them in the head.
They take one step back,
take their next two attacks.
The next one is a three.
The third attack, a natural 20.
- Hmm, mm, mm.
- Okay.
- Their attack and their
sneak attack damage
will be doubled.
Hold on one moment.
I don't like the sound of all these dice.
I don't like that sound,
I know that sound,
I watch this show, I know what that means.
(Ally laughs)
- What's happening?
- Brennan's about to roll a lot of damage
that's going to be dealt.
- To us?
- Some combination of us.
- Okay.
12, 15, 22.
- No, no, no, no, oh no.
- 28, 30.
- You're going to k*ll someone.
- 33 plus four, 37 points of damage.
I want to point out that for
several members of our party,
this would not only drop them to zero,
it would permanently k*ll them in one hit.
Lars, Lars take 37 points of damage.
- My, my total health is 40.
- No.
- Wow.
- We have to get the f*ck out of here.
- Lars, you take a lancing
blow to the side, hah,
as a rapier extends and plunges
into the side of your stomach.
Lars, it is going to be your turn.
- Oh god.
- So Lars is going to get my help here.
- Yes, yes.
- Is it that all you got, rabbit?
- Oh.
- That was a lot.
- All right, that is a 19
to hit but I'll roll again
to see if I crit which I f*cking do.
- No way, no f*cking
way, oh my f*cking god.
- Wait, what?
- Oh my f*cking god.
- Get out of here.
- You rolled a nat 20?
- Go ahead, hey, Buckster,
good looking out with the help action.
Hey Lars, go ahead and roll quick.
- I just want to say quick, good dog.
(all laugh)
- Go ahead and roll double damage, Lars.
- Incredible...
all right, that is 13.
- Okay.
- 10, 23.
- Bababababam.
- And then I am going
to second wind for sure.
- Oh hell yes, good call.
Lars, that's your bonus action.
You see that the Lars gets stabbed.
They're in a fist fight with
a figure holding a sword
and just like crouches down the injury.
Lars comes back around with
this powerful Doberman pinscher
haymaker, boom, once again,
side of the head, figure stumbles.
Gangie, that is going to be your turn.
- No, do I have to?
- No?
- Can I run?
- You are in the elevator,
you could attempt
to acrobatics past the
figure, blocking the entrance.
You are.
- I only have 25 little hit points.
- You would have been dropped
by that attack for sure.
- I'm going to die.
- There is the elevator here.
You could attempt what Buckster attempted,
to close the door, you
could try to escape out
into the night and like
flee past this figure.
- If we close the door at this point,
are we leaving Lars out
there with this person?
- Right now, no one is
taking the move action.
So what it really is,
is it's the open doors
the freight elevator, this
figure lunged forward,
tried to attack Lars, Lars got one hit in,
the person connected on the second stroke,
Lars came back with another punch.
So there's a fight happening
across the threshold of
the elevator right now.
- Okay, yes, I want to close,
I want to close the door.
I want to protect us.
- Give me a sleight of hand check.
I'm going to need a DC 20 sleight of hand
or you're going to get
an attack of opportunity
from the figure as you attempt
to like close the elevator
in the middle of a sword fight.
- I'm guessing that's not good.
- Six.
- Oh.
- We're going to make an attack.
- I'm going to roll
this in the Box of Doom
because this could be, this could be it.
- Oh god, this is terrible,
you can't lose three of us.
- Mrs. Molesly...
- This character is going to hit Gangie on
a seven or higher.
- Oh god.
- Oh God.
- You're not dead, not dead.
- I'm dead.
- Gangie, you go to close
the door and you take
seven points of damage.
- Okay, that's not bad at all.
- And that's it, the sword
slashes out across your arm.
Seven points of damage, you shut the door.
The door is shut in between you
and this figure in the rain.
That's your action.
You still have a bonus action
and a free object interaction.
- Can I move my shovel between the.
- You want to pull it through the grate?
Go ahead and make an attack roll, Katie.
- Very weaselly.
- For real, a real slender move.
- No, I got a four, why am I terrible?
- Oh no, okay, you're
going to like pool cue
with your shovel through, this figure
dexterously dodges out of the way
and that's the end of your turn.
Buckster the door is once
again, closed and locked.
You can see this figure, stepping back
reaching for a g*n in their coat.
And not only that, but
also looking at the door
like they want to open it on their turn.
Buckster you are the last to go
before this figure goes again.
- As fast as I can, I turn the key.
I switch the elevator back to back to down
and I say not by the hair
of my chinny chin chin.
- Wait can I, I just
brawled with this person.
Can I do an insight on
like their hands or like.
- Yes, give me.
- Or were they wearing a glove or what?
- Give me an insight check
with advantage, Lars.
- 11.
- Okay, 11 okay, and you
rolled with advantage, right?
Cool, you were brawling
with them, whoever this is,
they are a master combatant.
Very, very powerful, very
shrewd, but two masks.
You couldn't quite tell who they were.
Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin,
Buckster you hit that down button.
All of you flattened
yourselves to the ground
as a g*nsh*t rings out and the stone
behind you through the
other iron grate on the far
side of the elevator, just pock marks
and stone dust and rubble rain down on you
as the elevator lowers.
- Ah, god, ah.
- We are out of combat.
- I have a question.
- Yes, Katie, woo hoo hoo.
- Here's the thing.
When you said, when I used my shovel,
was I supposed to press the hit
button or the damage button?
- You were supposed to
press the hit button.
- I did not do that, I
pressed the wrong one.
- Can you press the hit button
again for me, real quick?
- 17.
- Katie, please roll damage,
plus sneak attack for me.
- 13.
- 13 points of damage, incredible.
You reach out with your shovel, bam.
Lars, please reroll that
insight check for me.
- So close 18.
- You don't get anything from
your brawling because you went
for the head both times.
Gangie pool cues his shovel
out right for the torso
and in the wide and voluminous
coat under the storm,
you hear a crunch.
- Pardon?
- A crunch.
- Of a shell.
- And that is all I can tell you.
An 18 is not a 20 that's
bronze metal information.
You hear a crunch, it's
storming, it's loud outside,
but you hear a crunch.
- Armadillo.
- I know I was like Armond or Harding.
- It's the Armadillo, right?
- Yeah.
- There is no, no way
that little sh*t stain
is a master combatant.
- I think it's either
Harding the turtle or Armond.
- Yeah, it's got to be one of them two.
- You hear a voice from the top
of the elevator shaft going.
Brbrbrbr, I'm going to k*ll all you.
(Sam laughs)
No, no, no, no, that didn't happen.
(all laugh)
Having fun, lovely, you guys.
- Oh, so we have a brief
moment here in the elevator.
Just the three of us,
before we go downstairs.
- Yes, you do.
- That was close, that was too close.
What do we think, a turtle?
- Could have been?
- Yeah, I think so.
- None of us have a g*n, right?
- No.
- I, I do have a sawed off.
I am not terrific with it.
- Okay, we made the right choice.
- We also poured all
our knives on the table,
in the seance room, so
nobody has any like.
- Oh my god.
- Incredible, I am going to
need a group stealth check
with disadvantage, if
you would all be so kind.
All three of you are
rolling with disadvantage.
- Eight.
- Eight?
- Seven.
- 12.
- So in the ballroom,
Sylvester and Dr. Magpie finish
their speech, upstairs
in the second floor,
Daisy and Vicar Prescott
hear the footsteps
of James Hawkins,
Colonel and old w*r buddy
of Squire Badger walking
back down the steps.
In the kitchen wing, the elevator returns
to its position where it was
discovered by our companions.
As the three of you exit,
you watch the elevator lower.
You got, what was your
group stealth again?
What was the best roll that everybody got?
- 12.
- 12, you all of you arrive
at the, at that level in time
to see in the kitchen wing,
Mr. Gilfoyle with a number
of the staff, speaking
to Jeremy Brockhollow
and to Colonel James Hawkins
who has just walked up.
You arrive, Lars, you are
doing your best to stand up.
Your pink suit is a red with blood
that has run all the way down your leg.
The figures all look at you coming
from the outside after hearing a g*nsh*t
and you see that Jeremy
stares, Mr. Gilfoyle raises
an eyebrow, Colonel Hawkins says, well
it goes without saying
that the three of you
are under arrest!
...and that's all for this episode
of Mice and m*rder.
- What the f*ck?
- I have a question, can I summon a ghost?
- Yeah, can Rekha roll to
see if ghosts are real?
- If there are any spirits in this room,
I don't even know if I
believe in you, but nat 20.
- We broke Brennan, we broke Brennan.
- No nat 20 has ever been more untimely.
The center of the crystal
ball, glows white.
(ghostly noises)
...please, is there someone there...
- Yes.
- I'm trapped, I'm trapped somewhere dark.
