Hello one and all!

Welcome back to another thrilling episode

of "Dimension 20: Neverafter."

I'm your humble dungeon
master, Brennan Lee Mulligan.

With me as always are our intrepid heroes.

Say hi, intrepid heroes.
- Oh my God!

- [Players] Hi, intrepid heroes.

- He didn't breathe.
- I don't even have a-

- [Ally] Slippery words.

- I've been scared about that
for a couple of sessions now,

but we just go so fast.

- The last we left off, our
friends were in the library

of their own stories in The Lines Between

fleeing the sort of
coming of the Stepmother,

Pinocchio's former patron.

With some quick thinking
on Pinocchio's part

and some quick action on Pib's,

Pinocchio found a new
patron within the pages

of his own story and was able
to Eldritch Blast the doorknob

sending the library tumbling
into extradimensional space.

And also, again, on a
nat 20 investigation,

Pib was able to find everybody's books.

The Frog Prince, Pinocchio, Mother Goose,

Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood,

and of course Puss in Boots
himself, his own book.

Quickly, wow, Pib, there you go.

- [Ally] Whoa.
- [Brennan] Sick.

- It looks like it was
done with a little claw.

- A little claw.
(Zac mimics claw tearing)

We raced through various stories

seeing some of the important memories

of these incarnations
of these fairy tales.

We saw Pinocchio's confrontation

with his father, Geppetto, in the past

that led to the version
of Pinocchio we met

at the beginning of our
story in this campaign.

And we went to a confrontation between him

and the fairy with turquoise hair.

A very tense confrontation
where that fairy

heard Pinocchio's requests
about the nature of his life,

his existence, and didn't really meet it.

Met it, I suppose, with
some level of understanding

but also some level of frustration

at what the fairies were
trying to do and what she,

at least, perceived as the
stakes of getting it wrong

with the new information you
learned about the Authors

and the terrible power that they wield.

The fairy was pulled from that place

into the story of Little Red Riding Hood

where we saw the horror of Ylfa's memory

of what transpired in her warped version

of the classic fairy
tale wherein she k*lled

and ate the Big Bad Wolf.

The fairy communicated at that point

that the version of the
wolf that had arrived

in this version of Ylfa's story

was something old and more primordial,

one of these sort of multiversal

twice-upon-a-time beasts
like the Gander and the Goose

and was in fact a force of death itself

and the ending of things,

a very powerful force
within stories, the endings.

Realizing that something had
sort of captured the wolf

or that the wolf had gone missing,

the fairy saw the torn-up
copy of Cinderella's story

from the library and made a leap for it.

Gerard beat her to the
punch and threw all of you

and your companions into
the story of the Frog Prince

where we met the other
frogs all named Fred,

the Princess Elody and saw how rough it is

to sort of live in a pond.

After which I believe we
went into Mother Goose's book

where we saw the Gander in its full form

framed across the sky.
- Huge, terrifying.

- [Brennan] Huge.
- With my whole story.

- Huge, terrifying, but
also Rosamund and Pib

were able to glean that the thing

was seemingly in pain to some degree

and that there was some
force manifesting behind it

to keep it pinned here in the Neverafter.

From there I believe all of
you finally solved the mystery

of exactly what the
Stepmother is and who she was

before electing to become something

that she chose to defy or
stand against the forces

that had written her story in a way

that she could not accept.

- Could we tell if the Baba Yaga

was in our Neverafter world?

- Can I meet the Baba Yaga?

Can I, Emily Axford, meet the Baba Yaga?

(Ally laughing)

I love you. I'm a huge fan. (laughs)

- I love you. I'm a huge fan.

- It's like, whoa, who's
this person? (laughs)

- So you saw the Stepmother,
in trying to gain answers

to sort of the devastation
of her daughters, and again,

having been very cruel to Cinderella

but then realizing in some
ways that that was her destiny,

that there was some force
moving upon the world

that had made her be that.

Learning that from the Baba Yaga,

she promised a favor to the Baba Yaga

and then gained that knowledge

and had that kind of multiversal awakening

that all of you had had
as well upon your deaths.

She, however, chose to exit

space and time to some degree

and seemed to move within
and throughout stories,

perhaps ascending to some liminal space.

Perhaps just ascending
to the bowels or hallways

of The Lines Between themselves.

However, realizing that you
were rapidly approaching

the Stepmother's present
and that she would probably

become aware that you
were doing the things

she had taken great pains to
prevent anyone from doing,

had erased her own name
which is why that story

was scrubbed and erased to begin with.

She became aware that people were going,

and indeed you believe the only reason

there were remnants of the story left

in this kind of devastated book

was because Baba Yaga's memories meant

that the story could not be fully erased.

You arrived in the City of
Chimneys back in the Neverafter,

getting out of there as fast as you could

where you saw some flyers for conscription

and compulsory military
service for the Baron of Bricks

in tandem with the Council of Kings.

And seeing the emblem of
the Baron of Bricks there

in the City of Chimneys
saw that boar's head

and remembered visions of
something quite boar-like.

And indeed, with all of the
absorbed stories in your book

were able to summon the story
of the Three Little Pigs

into your book and have some idea

that this creature may have knowledge

of the location of the Big Bad Wolf.

Upon arriving at the front door,

needing to make a good
impression, the Baron greeted you.

And a huge swing from
Rosamund, Sleeping Beauty,

offering marriage, which
the Baron accepted.

- Yeah.
(Siobhan laughs)

- Yeah.
- [Ally] Yeah.

- Sleeping Beauty, I thought you said

you didn't want to do this.

- I just had a, I panicked.
I had it in my head-

- Did you meet him and
then you liked him more?

- Somebody put it in my head,
and I'm not gonna say who,

but somebody did it and
then I just said it.

I said it out loud. I don't know what I'm-

- It's okay that you
saw him and went for it.

- Sorry to have left the room.

I was getting some of my servants

to offer some hors d'oeuvres.

I understand you may...

- Oh, delicious, fantastic, great.

- Splendid, I can offer more of an entree

if you are hungrier.

There's a delightful batch
of soup being prepared

if you're looking for
something haler and heartier.

- Yes.
- I could do some soup.

- I would eat some soup.
- Yeah, some soup.

- Come to the banquet hall with
me, if you would be so kind.

- Okay.
- Something vegetarian for me.

- What?

- You're vegetarian now? You ate a wolf.

- Ssh!
- Shut!

- I'm messaging this.
(cast laughing)

- As you message that, by the way,

there are sconces with guttering
torches against the wall.

As you cast Message you see
that the sconces light up,

and you see that they're made of cast iron

and had sort of a gargoyle face

that you couldn't quite make out.

The back of its mouth and its eyes glow

as you cast the Message
cantrip and are illuminated

as a screaming, weeping
wolf that is gagged

and its mouth has a chain binding a gag

into the back of its throat.

And that's what all of
the lantern sconces are.

It glows and you see the
Baron looks up and goes.

- Ah, I see you're casting some

sort of magic, my friend.

Are you part Her Highness's retinue?

- Yes, I'll be honest with you.

I was just trying to talk to
my friend here about manners

and requesting a vegetarian option.

- A young girl such as yourself-

- I retreat into my
hood even further back,

yes, I find myself drawn
to vegetables these days.

- Ah, I understand.

It is a foul thing to attempt
to eat another creature

It is a foul thing to attempt
to eat another creature

unless of course they have done
something warranting eating.

- Oh, so is the stew...
- So you're saying

all the food is bad?
- Hm?

- You're saying that the meat
in your food has been bad?

- If you wish for vegetarian
fare I can certainly-

- I will also have vegetarian.

- I think I might have vegetarian.

- Thank you, yes. Someone take the heat.

I don't want him looking at me.

- That sounds delicious to me.

I don't need to have a moral-
- What's in the soup?

- Yeah.
- What's in the soup?

- [Murph] What's in the soup?

- What makes it so hale and hearty?

- [Murph] Yeah.
- I'm so curious

in what kind of food you like.

You seem like a really interesting guy.

- I, my good man, am a boar.
I enjoy almost everything.

I am not that discerning,
although my wealth

has certainly provided a higher,

shall we say,

luxury grade of slop. (laughs roughly)

(Ally and Siobhan laughing)

- This is a wonderful keep you have here.

I was wondering, now that our
families are coming together-

- You are related to Her Highness.

- Yes, cousins, cousins.
- Ah, very good to meet you.

And your name, my friend.

- Gerard.
- Ah, Gerard.

And I speak now to a
princess and a prince?

Unless I'm much mistaken by your crown.

- Correct. Yes, I'm a prince.

- I had understood that
the Kingdom of Reverie

had long since fallen into
chaos and a powerful curse.

had long since fallen into
chaos and a powerful curse.

- Yes, unfortunately
like many other realms,

we did suffer some slight

bad fairy-related incident.

But who among us?
- [Murph] Right.

- Right?
- Oh, yes, indeed,

the times of shadow being what they are.

- I couldn't help but notice
your beautiful light fixtures.

- Oh, you admire them?
Well, I do appreciate it.

You are a very kind and sweet woman.

Your Highnesses, we have
dallied much in the foyer,

but to break our fast, I
think, is the thing to do.

Your servants may make
themselves ready with your rooms.

Do you have any effects
in your traveler carriage

or horses to stable?

- No, and in fact,
they're not my servants.

They are my retinue.
- My servants.

- I'm a handmaiden. I dress her.

- Oh, that's so kind of you to say.

I'm actually her butler,
and I'll go upstairs.

- I was going to say,

I could escort the
butler as the handmaiden.

- Yeah, and I do, I'm uh,
I do, I'm the, I'm a jester

so I do a little show.

- [Murph] He can do like a tight five.

- Oh, he is funny.
- I can like, do-

- So you came with a handmaiden,

a butler, and a jester and...

- I'm a butler.
(Brennan laughing)

- [Lou] We got two.
- We've got...

Well, I have one butler.

She has two butlers.
- Yeah.

- [Murph] And then we
have a standup comedian.

- I don't know how you're doing
it in the City of Chimneys.

- I'm not just a standup,
okay? I do tricks.

(Ally and Emily laughing)

- [Ally] Yeah, we've
got a standup comedian.

- [Lou] I do f*cking tricks, all right!

- Nothing could have been
funnier than saying butler again.

Absolutely nothing. Ooh, baby, okay.

He says, well, both of
your butlers (laughs)

and your handmaiden and your jester.

I'm actually gonna need
a group deception check.

- Oh my goodness.
- Got that in spades.

- Good. Okay, okay.

- [Siobhan] (groans) That's a five for me.

- Can I have advantage
since I'm really deep

back in my hood?
- Can I help with someone?

I got a 23 on my-

- Oh yeah, you can bonus action help.

- Yeah, you can bonus action
help. Yeah, go for it.

- I have a minus one to it.
- Okay, I got a 23, but I'll-

- I got a five.
- Nine.

- Maybe I help whoever has the best.

- Jesus Christ.
- I just crit! (cheers)

- [Ally] Oh, nice!
- [Brennan] Nat 20.

- I don't even need the help action.

- [Brennan] Nat 20, 23.
- 23.

- 11.

- I got a nine.
- Nine.

- [Brennan] Nine.
- Okay, I got a five

so I will take that help
action if it's available.

- Okay, yeah, did you?

- Yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't use it.

- [Brennan] And what did Gerard get?

- 11.
- [Brennan] 11, okay.

- [Emily] My nat 20 does become a 19.

- That's an eight.

- Okay, you see that the Baron
regards all of you and says,

and what are you holding there?

- Oh, uh... (laughs)
- [Brennan] Your book?

- Sorry, I'm so used to holding a tray.

- My butler, we've hit hard
times and my butler loves,

I love to be read a bedtime story

at night to send me to sleep.

- And we've hit such hard times

that now I have to read to her at night.

- Now, you may be asking,

wouldn't the jester do a
better job at reading a story?

- I would!
- He only wants to talk about-

- [Murph] Gets us hyped up.
- Yeah, he does.

- He gets us hyped up. He makes
us happy in the sad times.

- He's more physical comedy.

- [Ally] He's always talking about-

- I get so excited when he...

- Prop, a lot of props, prop comedy.

- [Zac] Like theater kind of situation.

- Let me understand.

So you actually don't have a carriage

or horses or any effects?

You have no luggage.

- No, this is a good marriage, though.

- [Siobhan] No.
- This is a, I will say she-

- It is a good marriage. I
know that we came in strong-

- Well, in that case there's
no need to go upstairs

because you have no effects to place.

- [Lou] Oh, but-
- Well, I have all my stuff.

Like look at, I mean, can
someone get this armor off me?

I need to-
(Brennan claps commandingly)

- The walls (mimics walls rumbling) shift

and mechanical pigs on
their back legs step out.

- Oh no.

- All bow and offer their hooves

for anything you wish to give them.

- Hm.
- [Lou] Um...

- Okay, well, you know what?

Actually, I feel like the
armor looks good, right?

So I should probably keep
wearing that, but this-

- It's mostly decorative.

- What do I need this great sword for?

- Honestly for me as a
handmaiden, it was more,

I figured you have guest quarters

so that I could go draw
a bath and get it good

and the perfect temperature for my lady.

- Yeah.
- Oh, I would-

- She has particular needs.
- [Siobhan] I need to have-

- So I do like dress down.

- [Siobhan] Several baths a day.

- You're disrobing right now?

- I put my shirt in
one of the pig's hands.

Just to have something to
give them. I don't know.

I also, I've been kind of
working out in the morning.

- Do you want to give your cloak, too

or you just gonna go
cloak, pants, no shirt?

- With the cloak on and pants.
- Maybe I should talk.

(cast laughing)
- [Ally] Zing.

- You see the Baron of
Bricks says, of course.

Show the handmaiden to the bathing room.

And you see that two
of the mechanical pigs

(metal clanks)
move over to...

- Yes, it is a job that
takes a couple of us, though.

- Pib, why don't you-
- I will go with you.

- Yeah, you can get my bath ready.

- I'll get the second bath ready.

- Gerard's bath. Prince Gerard's bath.

- So there's the Princess Rosamund's bath-

- And there's a matter
of beating the pillows

into the perfect submission
for my lady's delicate body.

- Oh, my body is so delicate.

I need those pillows absolutely smashed.

- I think we're sufficiently explained.

- [Lou] Yeah!
- Thank you so much.

- [Zac] What's going on with the baths.

- I've had a great time.
- [Brennan] So, very well.

The mechanical pigs take you
off towards a bathing chamber,

and for the other four
of you, you see that-

- Oh, can I go with Pib?
- Yeah.

If you wanna go with the three
of them, yeah, absolutely.

- [Ally] With you guys.
- Yeah.

All right, so three of you
are going to go draw a bath.

Great. Jester, are you part of that?

- [Murph] He's gonna do standup.

- I guess I'm gonna perform while you eat.

(Emily laughing)

- Is that hard? I've
heard that's a hard gig.

- Well, yeah, it's tough
'cause people's attention

is a lot of other places,
and I can only assume

the lighting in your dining
room is not that great, but-

- How high are the ceilings?

- The ceilings, a measurement,

I would say about 18 feet tall.

- Oh dear, I'm so sorry.
- Yikes, okay, well...

- Not an intimate space, no.
- Well, I mean,

I can go help beat pillows if uh...

- I think we're good on the pillows.

- [Emily] No, no!
- Okay then, I guess

it's standup and dinner.
- No, I would love for you

to do your tight five.
- [Murph] Do crowd work.

- While we...
- I'm joining you.

- I would love to walk the
halls with my wife to be,

but because we are not yet wed,

a chaperone would be appreciated.

- All right.
- So you two.

- That's me and my standup.
(players chuckling)

- Yeah, you got it.

- He's gonna make sort of
funny observational jokes

as we go through the halls.
(players snickering)

- The stuff this guy comes up with.

I just have never heard
anything more clever.

- [Murph] Super.
- Hey, we gotta stop, man.

- [Murph] Super visual.

- Hey, I got a question for you.

Are you on your way to
the bathroom right now

or are you still here?
- Oh, we took off.

- [Murph] You guys are gone.
- I'm just yelling back.

- Yeah.
- Timothy, why are you-

- Please shout any bits
you have in parting.

- Yes, I was going to say,

I'd love to see more of your keep.

- Very well, right this way.

Group going to the
bathroom to draw baths...

(players snickering)

- We gotta shake these.
I do a Message cantrip.

We gotta shake these pigs.
- You're whispering.

- [Ally] You're whispering.
- We gotta shake these pigs.

- Can I do an insight check to
see if these robots can like,

tell, if they're like, tracking us

or if they're just kinda like, on a track.

- [Brennan] Yeah, give
me an insight check.

- And we could stop walking
and they'll keep going.

- Give me an insight check.

- Ooh, oh, that's really good.
- [Siobhan] Ooh, nice.

- Insight, that's 24.

- They are fully mechanical,
but they are regarding you.

They're sort of glowing.

They have these sort
of glowing ember eyes.

- I'm gonna whisper to you guys.

Let's not make a move just yet.

Let's just get in the bathroom and-

- Yeah, okay.
- [Zac] Get all that going.

- I think I'll kind of
flash my book at you guys

kind of signifying that I
could turn one of you invisible

if we need to break off
and do a little recon.

- Let's get up there first.
- Yeah, that's good.

Yeah, let's just get up there.
So how do you like this job?

(Brennan mimics mechanical body shifting)

Pay's good?
(Brennan rasps ominously)

Pays good weekends?

- Pays good, weekends?
(dramatic music)

(players laughing)

Pay's good, weekends?

- I message to Little Red, what's up?

- Wolves glow again and you see that two

of the mechanical pigs drop
ax blades from their hands.

- Okay, that's what I
was checking. Okay, cool.

- Pay's good, week...

Sorry, we were just,

we were messaging each
other about what we're-

- Whether the pay is
good or weekends yeah.

- Is uh...
- [Ally] Yeah.

- Your weekend pay is good?

- My weekend did pay good, actually.

I had a great job that I picked up.

- That's good. So where's
this bathroom we gotta-

- (mimics mechanical buzz)
And then starts moving you

in the direction of the bathrooms.

- All right.
- Okay.

- Okay, so huge axes.

- Can I just do, just give
'em a little look-over.

I just wanna see if there's
like, on and off buttons.

- Yeah, give me an-

- [Emily] Or like a
cartridge that powers them.

- Give me an investigation check.

- Be nice to... get a two. (laughs)

Becomes a one.
- Do you want to just...

- Yeah, you can do that.

(dramatic music)
(die taps table)

- That's an investigation,
a 19 if there's like...

- You're not seeing a
cartridge or a power source

or anything like that.

As you look in, get a little close to one

as it's sort of walking beside you,

you smell rotting flesh
coming from within it.

- Okay, yeah. So that's
what's going on here.

- This is dark.

- You arrive at a brick room with

two brass tubs in it.

You see that the tubs have wolf paws

in their sort of claw feet,
and the spouts up above them

are of the same sort of cast iron style

of a screaming wolf's head
with a chain next to it

to pull for water to come down.

- Okay, well, I'm assuming

they don't follow us into the bathroom.

- They stay in the doorway.

- [Emily] They stay in the doorway.

- Hey, friends, thank you
for showing us the bathroom.

Our, you know, Lord and Lady
friends are pretty particular

about how we get their baths ready,

and I just would feel more comfortable

if we had a little privacy
to make that work out.

- [Ally] And do you think you could...

- [Zac] Close your ears and step outside.

- You could kinda...

- Can I just like,
start to close the door?

- They are standing physically the doorway

so you move the doorway towards the point

where it sorts of taps into one of them

which they don't respond to.

You see zero emotion.

They're just like emotionless metal faces.

- So it's just certain
things that trigger them.

- Did we pass anything else in
the hallway on the way here?

- Give me an investigation check.

- [Ally] How many of them are there?

- [Brennan] There are four here.

- 21.

- I think you smell the
smell of cooking something,

of like a thick, brothy
musk from elsewhere

down a hallway.

So I think you know the direction

towards like wherever the
kitchens are, so to speak.

- Oh, sh*t. Guys...
- [Emily] Okay.

- Did we get everything? I
feel like we forgot something.

- Oh.
- Did we?

I'm gonna start doing like,
the hottest water possible

to try and get a good steam going.

- Yeah, why don't you
run out and go grab it

and we'll keep doing this.

- Okay, don't do anything I wouldn't do.

And I talk to one of the-
- That's his catchphrase.

- [Zac] I'm gonna go, I
gotta, I forgot the...

- One of them peels off to escort you.

- Okay, great. Yeah,
this way down the stairs.

- Mm-hmm.
- [Zac] Okay.

- So one of them peels off to escort you.

- I'm gonna hurry so I'm gonna run.

- Ax blades drop.
(metal slicing)

- All right, I'll walk. (laughs)

- You begin to walk to
rejoin your friends.

We're gonna cut back to Gerard
and Pinocchio and Rosamund.

You walk sort of through
these chambers with the Baron.

He says, Your Highness.

- Hm.

- By what name might I call you?

- Oh, Your Highness is fine.

- You wish for me to-
- For now.

- Oh, enchanting.
- Hm, yes.

- Tell me, what tale of mine,

what manner of my reputation

reached you in the
fallen Kingdom of Reverie

such that you would travel all
this way to propose marriage?

- Oh, we heard of a very dashing story

about you and a wolf.

- [Brennan] What have
you heard about a wolf?

- Well, the story that I
heard, well, you were too brave

that I was like, I have to come

and instantly propose marriage.

Are you saying that the story...

What was the real story?

- Brave.

- And ingenious.

- And ingenious. Very clever and brave.

- Both.
- Bravery and ingenuity

pale in comparison to
the power of industry.

- I see.

- I would prefer that you
not call me brave again

in this place.
- Oh, you got it.

- Pinocchio.

- I'm surprised we
haven't seen a toilet yet

'cause this place is built
like a brick shithouse.

(players laughing)

- Thank you, jester. See, he's funny.

- Give me a performance check.
- Oh, come on, baby.

(die taps table)

- Can I help him by
really building him up?

(Murph laughs desperately)

- [Siobhan] Oh my goodness.

- [Brennan] Yeah, take a help action.

- That is a good one.
(die rattling)

- That's gonna be a 21.

- The Baron looks at you
and says (sniffs) droll.

(players snickering)
(Emily groans)

- Do you not have a jester of your own?

- We have no time for such frivolities

here in the City of Chimneys.

- Oh, what a pity.
- Right this way.

And you see he turns and starts walking

down a long, dark hallway.

- So what did happen
with you and the wolf?

- He walks in silence and says,
very forward for a princess.

- He walks in silence and says,
very forward for a princess.

- Oh, I'm a forward kinda gal.

- I mean, you did propose
marriage to me on sight

so I'm not sure that's
out of character but...

- That's me.

- You walk into a room and you see

that there are two statues in this room.

And it's one of the only places
that is a little bit more...

Everything here is a
really dull ember lighting.

It's just like a thick,
red light everywhere.

You walk into this place and there are two

sort of alchemical
spotlights that have a crisp,

more blue-white light.

And you see the floor here is not brick.

The floor is actually sort
of a cool white marble

that goes towards these brick walls.

And there's a statue to the
left and right of the door,

each of them about like 12 feet tall.

And this boar, by the way,

is himself like eight
and a half feet tall.

- Wow.
- There is a statue

made of bundles of sticks
in the shape of a pig,

and there is another made
of bounded sheaves of hay

in the shape of a pig.

And there are names on the bottom.

You see the names of these two pigs

were apparently George and Charles.

And you see he walks into
the chamber and sighs

and says,

(haunting instrumental music)

Yes, what was my story?

- Oh, I'm sorry, what's your name?

- Peter, but...

- Oh.
- It does not matter.

You do not wish for me to know yours

so you do not need to feel
any formality or kindness

to refer to me by mine.
- Oh, well, uh, mm...

Are you okay?

You seem suddenly very sad.

My name's Rosamund.

- A pleasure, Lady
Rosamund, Your Highness.

If I've given you the
impression that I am sad,

then I am sorry for this,
the day of our engagement.

I should be more celebratory,

but you have been quite forward

in asking these questions of my past.

I don't think grief is exactly sadness,

but I mourn for my brothers.

I mourn for them.

It is a strange thing to struggle your way

through the anger, the bitterness.

I do not hate my brothers.

No, I love them with all my heart,

but I do know fury every day
that they did not work harder,

that they did not think more

and that they chose to cut corners.

But I will not be called brave.

I will not be called brave
for I hid in my house

and they in theirs and they
are dead and I draw breath.

- Oof.

Jester...

- Um...

How do wolves like sex?

(players laughing awkwardly)

- [Murph] How do they like sex?

- Huffin' puffin' rough. (chuckles)

(Emily laughing)

(Murph laughs nervously)

- I really thought you were
were gonna say doggie style.

- [Brennan] Give me performance.

- And then you said something insane.

- That's a 19.
(Emily laughing)

(players laughing)

I'm gonna immediately gonna
bow to the two statues. Um...

- See, we too grieve, but our jester...

(players laughing)

- [Murph] He...
- Really brings a kind of...

- Always brings us up, yes.

- Why did you say huff and puff?

- Well, I just, uh,
well, I was thinking...

- It's rhyming.
- It rhymes.

That's all, it was just a good rhyme.

I was just looking for a...

- Why did you ask about the wolf?

Have you or any of your retinue

had any run-ins with that monster?

- No.

- We haven't had a run-in with the wolf.

I'll be honest, our kingdom
is overrun by these thorns

and bramble and we honestly need help

and bramble and we honestly need help

from someone as industrious
as yourself to protect us so-

- Yes.
- We heard that you

had protected yourself
from this monstrous wolf

and we thought perhaps we
could come to you for help.

- I'm gonna need some kind
of deception check here.

I'll let you go with advantage

'cause you're not saying
anything that's fragrantly a lie,

but your real reason for coming
here was not to get help.

- Totally.
(dice rattling)

(Murph grunts)

(dice tap table)

Okay.
- 14.

- I also got a 14.
- [Siobhan] All right.

- He looks at you and says,
as you become my wife,

my home will of course be your home

and the Kingdom of Reverie will fall

to be our children's to inherit.

(sniffs) That being said,

you will of course enjoy the
benefit of my protection,

and I can tell you now that
there is no safer place

and I can tell you now that
there is no safer place

in the world than my house.

(tense instrumental music)

Anything we require
from the outside world,

one of my kings can get for us.

- You have kings?
- Kings need weapons.

- How many kings do you have?

- Five at the moment, but more soon.

- That's a lot of kings.

I don't know if I've met five kings.

- There's your father, that's one.

- Well, he's asleep, isn't he?

- Well, my darling, we
should go wake him up.

Come, come, time for the banquet.

This hall is best left alone.

And you see he turns and leaves

from this place with his brothers.

Pib, you arrive back. Are you
looking for your companions?

- I was gonna go via the smell of food.

- You see that your mechanical
guardian interposes itself

as you attempt to go in
a different direction.

- Do I have a sense if I
were to make any bigger moves

with this guy, are they like hive mind-y?

Does it seem like that they would be-

- [Brennan] You know that this,

like, the system here in this place-

- Detects magic.
- Detects magic and sh*t,

so I think you're like,

there's some kind of
alarm that's gonna go off.

- Yeah.
- In some way or another.

If you pop off now, you'll be
popping off with your group

separated into three different pods.

- [Zac] Oh, yeah.
- [Emily] Okay...

- I think Pib was hoping more, yeah,

more options would become
available by like, slipping off,

but it doesn't seem as
clear as he was hoping.

- Give me another investigation check.

If you're looking for more options,

yeah, just give me another
investigation check.

(die clattering table)

(energy powers down)
- Nat one.

- [Brennan] Okay.

- Can I do it 'cause we're also left-

- [Brennan] Yeah, you guys are-

- But now it kinda seems like maybe

we should just rejoin the group.

- [Ally] Can I give you the help action?

- Yeah, go ahead and give
me an investigation check.

- I have a minus one to investigate.

- Oh, oh, okay, okay.
- I wanna do that.

- [Brennan] All right,
so Ylfa will give you-

- I give Timothy.
- [Brennan] Yeah,

Ylfa will give Mother
Goose the help action.

- I sniff the air.

- Incredible, 24.

- Okay, here in the bathroom
you draw these baths.

You see obviously these
sort of bathing quarters

are quite near your sleeping quarters,

and I think looking at the
sleeping quarters here,

you realize whatever Pib was
going back to investigate

is pretty near to where
you're gonna be staying.

- Okay.
- [Emily] Okay.

- Should we just go join?

- Join the group.
- [Ally] Our lovely princess.

- Yeah, I think we'll just,

yeah, we'll just head back, yeah.

- We'll try to catch up with Pib

and get back to the whole group.

- [Emily] Just be like...
- You guys catch up with Pib.

And Pib, I think as you
make your way down first

to this large banquet...

- Can I do an investigation
check to see if there are tracks

or if I can pick up any knowledge

about how this place is like...

- Give me an investigation
check with advantage.

(dice tapping table)

- Nat 20.

- On such a specific ask, you
get to where Pib is waiting

where it goes off towards the kitchens

and you do notice in
the mortar of the bricks

are these fine, fine little copper wires.

And you see that when these things walk,

they keep their hooves on either
side of these copper wires.

And you look and see the
hallway that leads down

towards where Pib kind of
pointed out the kitchens before,

no such wires go there.

It seems that these beings are like,

maybe prohibited from going
down in that direction.

- Let's just experiment
with walking in a place

that those little copper wires don't go

and see what the pigs do.

- Mm-hmm, can we try that?
- Do you want to try to like,

bolt from them down that direction?

- I mean, I don't wanna set off an alarm

and blow up their sh*t.
- Yeah, same.

- [Emily] That's the thing.

- I guess maybe we just tuck that in.

Maybe I kind of mention it.
- Okay.

- Cool, you guys arrive
down at the banquet hall

where a bunch of, basically,
you see it's very clear

that a plate of loose
vegetarian soup ingredients

is served to you so it's like...

- Awesome, thank you.
- It's like-

- Oh, a raw onion?
- A raw onion, carrots.

You see as you're sitting there, Rosamund,

your seat has been placed
quite near to the Baron

with Gerard, a chaperone the other side.

The Baron looks at you as you say,

thank you for respecting my path.

He goes, of course.

(sniffs) Young handmaiden...

- Yes?

- Have we met before, you and I?

- No, I'm from Lullaby Land.

- Hm.
- Do you ever hang out there

or deal arms there, I guess?

- Yes, I have never hung
out a day in my life.

- Oh, okay.
- [Ally] Oh.

- You should try it sometime.
- I don't think I will.

- I don't think you will, either.

Gerard, take the heat off of me.

I can't interact with this guy.

- Pinocchio!

- Um, I'm really excited to
see how your kids turn out.

If it's a boy I bet he'll
have his mother's eyes

and his father's stick up his a*s.

(Emily laughing)

- [Murph] Roast mode!

- I personally love to hang out.

- Give me performance with disadvantage.

- Roast mode.
- [Murph] Go take a lap.

- Tell you what, this
court is gonna change.

- Honestly, thank you, Pinocchio.

- [Brennan] You wanna do it straight?

- [Siobhan] When I'm in charge.
- Can I help?

- [Brennan] Yeah, you can do it, too.

- Okay, great. Thank God.

- Eight.
- Oh, an eight?

It's performance? 14.

- It's normal for him. It's uh, yeah.

- You have a ribald sense
of humor, little boy.

- Well, now that we're all feeling

a little bit more comfortable.

- You're made of wood, are you?

- A keen eye.

- Ah, a very flexible material.

Do you break easily?

- Ah, on occasion, but only wind.

(players laughing)

- He's good.
- [Siobhan] He's good!

- You have to admit he's quick.

- I am not gonna get rid of him.

- [Murph] You know what?

- Do you do any physical comedy?

- Sure, I'd like to run up and
I'm gonna step onto the table

and jump so that I land exactly on my neck

and my body bends over.

Like, so essentially my head is like here,

and my body is like up there.

- Give me performance with advantage.

- Advantage. (laughs)

- That's a 16.

(Lou mimics wood cracking)
(wood splinters)

(Lou yelps)
(Emily laughing)

- Very droll, but you did survive.

- Oh, I'm sorry.

- [Siobhan] Oh, it's the dying.

- [Murph] It's the death. It's the death.

- It's the dying he likes.

- Another thing we love
to chat about is...

And I take out the book.
- [Brennan] Yeah.

- You know, we have so many stories

if you'd love to hear like a...

I'm sure I've got some
stories where people die.

- As you take out the book,

a couple things happen
in quick succession.

Several of you still
have your books on you,

but I think Ylfa, you're trying to be-

- I'm as hidden as possible.

- [Brennan] Hidden as possible.

- I don't want him to smell it on me.

- Pib, you're really hidden as well

or just generally stealthy.

I think Pinocchio, you feel
a sudden strong connection

to your book, and I think
Rosamund, you become aware

of something as Mother
Goose opens the book.

And flipping through the pages,

the page where your story is
where you put the spindle,

you see that that empty space
before the final illustration

glows with possibility,
and you feel suddenly

that your book glows and it's visible.

It's like, quite visible at the table.

The Baron notices it immediately,
but you suddenly feel

that your book starts to float in the way

that Gerard's floated when he
put the ball into the book.

- Oh, oh.

- Is he distracted by the
book, or is he only looking-

- He's looking at that
and that and says...

- I move so he has to choose one.

(Emily laughing)
- That's not real.

He doesn't have to choose
one. You're both there.

- No, I move on the other side of him

so he has to kinda, you know.

- So you lean across the table as far

as you can hold a book out
to split his field of vision?

- It's working. Keep stretching.

- Right, but here's here
and I can see both of you

at a table right now.

- [Emily] Mother Goose is a genius.

- [Zac] Wow.

- I've never met anyone with
the intellect of Mother.

- So, okay, so in this
moment, too, Pinocchio,

I think you also feel
this profound connection

to your own book as well and
your strings going into it.

Let me ask in this moment,
you registered that your magic

was connected back to you
when you cast Eldritch Blast,

but you haven't cast any magic since then.

You feel a tug on your strings

almost like when a diver pulls on a rope,

but you feel a tug on your strings

of something in your book.

- Hm, do I feel like I could communicate

with whatever that tug is inside

or would I have to open the
book or do I get a sense of,

I guess I'm gonna...

- I don't think you
get a sense of urgency.

- [Lou] Okay.
- But it's something

that you could interact
with if you wanted to.

- I mean, it feels like
there's a lot going on.

There's a part of me that
wants to interact with it

but is nervous-
- [Brennan] You choose-

- That if we just whip
out the book for the-

- Yeah, you choose to bide your time.

- [Lou] Yes, but I-

- But you feel that opportunity.

- Great.
- [Brennan] For Rosamund

and Mother Goose, what are you doing?

- I'm picking kind of neutral stories

or half making up stories
that I think he'll like.

- Give me a flat luck check to make sure

you don't turn to a
page that you shouldn't.

- Okay.

(die clattering)

Well, 16.
- 16, okay.

Yeah, you just open it
to some blank pages.

- You're probably noticing that this book

that I'm carrying is glowing.

- How extraordinary.

- Isn't it beautiful? It's a flashlight.

Use it to illuminate things.
(eerie music)

- Give me a deception check.

(die taps table)

- Seven.

- I've heard of those. A flashlight?

- Yes, because who would need...

Who has time to prattle on about books

when there's so many things that need-

- All right, you're getting a help action

so go ahead and roll with advantage.

- 17.
- He looks and says,

I rather think that my soon-to-be wife

takes me for a fool.

Do you imagine that I am an idiot?

You have come in here and
chattered quite incessantly,

made an offer of love to a
very lonely and dangerous man.

- Made an offer of marriage.

- We didn't know you were lonely.

- To a very lonely and dangerous man.

- [Brennan] Hm.

- True love doesn't exist so...

- Do you believe that?

- No.
- [Emily] Except for frogs.

- No, I don't believe it at all.

- Hm, I've offered you my hospitality,

and I will not revoke it
based on this glib deception.

Your magic book is your own business,

and I don't see any reason to interfere

with whatever arcane goings-on you have.

My servants will see you to your quarters,

but I've quite lost my appetite.

And you see he stands up
and leaves the chamber

as some of his mechanical
servants come out

to escort you to your chambers.

- Well, that went well.
- Okay, I'm gonna look around

and see who's watching or listening to us

and if we could talk freely.

- The mechanical servants
are at the entrance

waiting to escort you.

You could probably whisper
quietly to each other.

- We haven't seen a living thing.

- Just the pig. Just the pig, yeah.

- It's just him. He said he's lonely.

- [Siobhan] On his own.
- I think based off

on these sconces that the wolf

is down here somewhere bound and gagged.

- How many servants are there
at the doorway waiting for us?

- Four again.
- Let's go to the room.

- Why don't we go to the rooms?

- I think so.
- Let's go to the rooms.

- Plan for the rooms.
(players yawning)

- [Siobhan] Oh, what a sleepy kitty cat.

- (yawns) All that raw onion.
- I'm beat.

(Emily laughing)
- Something about the onion

really made me so sleepy.
- Something about that onion.

- You are all escorted to your rooms.

You hear like some of the
thundering of the mills

and factories outside begin to dwindle

as time gets closer towards evening.

- Are there vents in this building?

- No, the air is still and hot

and dead pretty much everywhere in here.

As you get to your rooms,
I want to check with anyone

if you're doing anything in your chambers.

So Ylfa and Rosamund are together

'cause you're her handmaiden.
- [Emily] Yeah.

- And then Gerard.

- [Siobhan] We're holding hands.

- You're with, I guess, Mother Goose-

- [Siobhan] That's what
you think a handmaiden is.

- Who's like your butler,

and then Pinocchio and
Pib, you're placed together

just sort of jester and butler as well.

Do any of you do anything in your room

in preparation before
you attempt anything?

- I'm definitely gonna
investigate the tug.

- [Brennan] You open your book.

- Yeah, I'm looking through my book, too.

- Pib, I felt something.
- Yeah, me too.

- When Tim opened the
book there was a pull

from inside my book.
- [Zac] From your own book?

- From my own book.
- What are you doing? Okay.

- I don't know.

- You open the book up
and you feel magic flow

- You open the book up
and you feel magic flow

and your strings materialize again.

When you've closed your book,

your strings aren't visibly
or physically on you.

They only appear as you
connect magically to the book,

which is great 'cause they're
a huge danger and hazard

when they're physically present.

But they connect to the book again,

and I think you are filled with a feeling

and I think you are filled with a feeling

of profound connection

to your story.

And it's written here, this
book has your story of your life

but you know that it's also
connected to The Lines Between

which is also connected
to every other version

of your story that's ever been told.

And I think you feel tugs on your strings.

Some of them are very powerful

that almost you pull on
them, and as you pull on them

it's almost like pulling
on a piece of your brain.

As you pull on the most taut strings,

it's like connected to the things

that have already happened to you.

Things that can't be taken back.

Things that are in the
prologue of your story.

And then the looser ones you tug on

and you have kind of like
memories of not specific things

but like the patterns, the
things that you accused

the fairy with turquoise hair of.

Why does my life always
have to be so hard?

And you feel the strings
kind of pulling softly

in that direction, but
when you pull on those,

you kind of feel like you
magically almost like,

by choosing the book, by giving
it your marionette handle,

you're like, nobody can hold my strings

without me being able
to pull on them, too.

- Mm-hmm.

- Does Pinocchio attempt anything

in relation to the book now?

- So does it feel like
there are parts of my story

that I could pull out
into the world with me?

- It does, and you grab that
one string that was tugged

almost like intentionally
by a being, and as you pull

it doesn't feel like it's tied
that strongly into the book,

but like you're saying, your
patron is almost your destiny.

And that is a force that exerts
magical potency and power,

And that is a force that exerts
magical potency and power,

but maybe not infinitely.

And maybe it's something that,
as you pull on these strings,

there's almost a feeling of,
you are in negotiation with it

as you were with the Stepmother before.

But yeah, there's a tug here.

- I think at least I wanna
see what I can take from it

so the one that was tugging
on me I'm gonna pull hard.

- You pull hard on it and you pull

whatever you decide your new
familiar is out of the book.

- (chuckles) I think there is something

in kind of feeling this and
this connection to the book

that Pinocchio does think

about the sweeter parts of
his story in this moment

than when he accosted the
turquoise fairy yesterday.

And I think he thinks about the little guy

who helped kick bugs off of him

when he died the first
time so I'm gonna try

and pull out the 100-year-old Cricket.

- You pull and a no longer ghostly

but actual magical glowing cricket.

It still seems like almost
a little insubstantial

like it's made of magic, but
it's not sort of the weak,

scary spirit that it was before.

Cricket leaps out, oh.
- Put it in my mouth.

- No! Pow!
(players laughing)

(Lou shouts)

- Oh jeepers, you're
protecting me from the cat.

- I was just playing.

- It was, I guess, it
was more instinctual.

- Ah, Pinocchio, you did it! You're...

It looks like your strings
are your own again.

Pal, way to go.
- Oh, Cricket, Cricket stop.

You can't be this supportive.

The world is way meaner, all right?

- Why, well, the world is only
as mean as the people in it

so every time you wake up with a smile

you're making the world a little less sad.

- Okay, I can't, honestly I
can't decide if I love this

or if I'ma get real
tired of it real quick.

- I think he's charming.
(cast laughing)

- I love him, personally.
(Brennan laughing)

- He's way better than that sword.

- You see Cricket says,
hey, I'll tell you what.

I can see you got a bunch of jokes there

so you have to forgive
me if I'm bugging you.

(Emily laughing)

- Honestly, Cricket,
I'm gonna need your help

because I'm playing the
jester and I'm not good at it.

- Well, let's workshop
it. What do you got?

Do you have any idea anywhere?
- Well okay.

So I was thinking something
about the lighting because-

- (laughs) Cricket jumps in and
helps you workshop your act.

- Oh my God.
- Okay.

- Cricket looks over and goes, hey,

I don't know why

but for a lot of time when I saw you,

but for a lot of time when I saw you,

sometimes you were a real boy

and sometimes you were made of wood

and sometimes you had your
strings and sometimes you didn't.

I remember the last time we talked

when I wasn't feeling so good.

- Mm-hmm.

- I was trying to help, but
it wasn't really helping

and I think it just made you mad.

- It's, I think I've just had
a hard time with, I think,

- It's, I think I've just had
a hard time with, I think,

some of the people in my life and

how they see the world

and the world as it is now.

I just feel like there's
a disconnect there.

And I don't know, it's just,
it's been hard to survive.

And I don't know, I think
I felt like people like you

And I don't know, I think
I felt like people like you

were slowing me down or didn't get it.

And so I'm sorry I was
angry it's just, I didn't...

(tender music)

It's just sometimes how
chipper and sweet you are

just doesn't feel like it's appropriate

for the world as it is now.

(tender music continues)

- Sometimes when you feel

like your whole point is to be a helper,

you just have to help at any cost,

and that's pretty unhelpful.

Sometimes I didn't have a good answer

and I shoulda just said that,

and I'll do better to tell
you when I don't know.

- Thanks, Cricket.

And I'll try and do a
better job of communicating

kind of what I'm going through, and

I can be better as well.

- Aw, you being better,
how's that possible?

You're the best!
- Oh my God, Cricket!

- (laughs) And I think Pib, too, looking,

there's something also interesting here.

You have your book that you
haven't looked at at all,

and you're looking at this
like, little helper animal.

And I think there's like
a flashback to Tomas

and the idea of like, of
this little animal spirit

that feels totally responsible for helping

and guiding the life of this young boy.

And you just feel the weight
of that book by your side.

But in this moment it's not glowing.

It just rests there waiting for you.

- It's like when you like, (chuckles)

when someone bothers you
'cause they are too similar.

(Brennan and Ally laughing)

Slow down.

- [Brennan] Slow down, dude. This sucks.

- I say turn it up, Cricket.
(cast laughing)

Gerard, I think I'm in a love triangle

with Pinocchio and the Cricket. (laughs)

- (laughs) A little
wooden moss-covered boy

and a talking bug.
- You're just at the wall

of our room listening in

and falling in love with the Cricket.

- [Brennan] So night gets-
- Whoa. (laughs)

- Night gets deeper and
deeper, and obviously you guys,

your doors are left open
because there's a privy chamber

down the hallway for you to use.

What do you guys do as the
night hours grow longer?

- So we could go into each others' rooms.

- Yes, yes, you could.

- Oh, I thought we were
all in one big room. Sorry.

- [Brennan] Oh no, you're good.

- I do wanna open my book.

- [Brennan] Cool.
- As it's glowing.

- You feel, and maybe actually, I can say,

if you guys want to join each
other in the same chamber.

- I think so, yeah.
- That makes sense.

You have the much most, so Sleeping Beauty

has the most sort of palatial suite there.

And as you join there,
it's still dull red bricks

and low lighting, but
there are fineries in here.

And everything has that
sort of vibe to it of like,

I have purchased the finest things

to meet the expectation of
my wealth and that is all

so it's a very soulless kind
of luxury in this space.

- Got it, a really uncomfortable mattress.

- Yes, as you enter the room,

Mother Goose, your book
is glowing a little bit.

And Rosamund, you see your book glows

and you see it sort of start to float,

especially with the presence
of that spindle page.

You've already given this central artifact

of your story to the book.

- [Siobhan] Mm-hmm.
- [Ally] Hm...

- And so the question I have is do you,

as the book starts to float,

Gerard kind of made the decision to like,

accept his book and become his story.

How does Rosamund feel as the
book starts to sort of float?

- I don't think I want to

be a story, necessarily,

and not this one where
things just happen to me.

Just where the wolf is?

magical wolf fang dagger

And before the wolf can take
a breath in, he hits the stew,

And you see chains and
you hear a voice going,

I think you realize
that the Baron of Bricks

has some sort of multiversal
knowledge as well,

and you realize what he's doing.

He is erasing from time and space

as many versions of the
Big Bad Wolf as possible,

boiling down and reducing
this legendary beast,

and in images of fire as the
wolf twitches within the stew,

you see versions of its soul stripped away

over and over and over again.

You see as you enter from
the door over on this side,

far distant from you a
massive suit of armor

far distant from you a
massive suit of armor

on four legs with a giant bladed hand

controlling this massive
wooden spoon stirring the stew.

You hear the furious growling

Everybody here roll initiative.

- Okay, we gotta unchain this thing

and then give it its just...

- [Brennan] What did we get from Pib?

- Six.
- [Brennan] Six from Pib.

What did we get from Ylfa?

- 14.
- [Brennan] 14.

- Oh, and I had shifted before

so let me roll my temporary hit points.

What did we get for Mother Goose?

- [Brennan] 14 as well.

And what did we get from Rosamund?

- I also got a six.

- [Siobhan] I rolled a one.

- The mark of the beast!
- [Brennan] So Gerard,

you're actually gonna be the first to act.

- [Murph] Ah, well, this seems bad.

Should I try to break the chains?

- [Emily] Yeah.
- [Lou] I think so!

- [Murph] All right.

- [Siobhan] I think that's
probably a good idea.

- [Murph] I've got, my jump
speed is tripled with my crown.

- [Ally] Nice!
- Carry me.

- Oh yeah, can I bring Pib with me?

- [Brennan] Mm-hmm.
- All right.

I'll just dash.
- [Brennan] Okay.

- [Murph] And get as close
as I can to these chains

so that I can use my movement
to jump up next turn.

- Okay, carrying Pib,

you're gonna dash and use your movements.

That's 60 feet.
- [Murph] Yeah.

You can actually count out
your movement from there

and go ahead and have
Pib with you there, too.

- [Ally] Nice.
- [Brennan] Is Gerard's turn.

That's gonna be Little Red Riding Hood.

- [Emily] Okay, so I
think someone's gonna need

to try and work on these.

I wanna get here onto the wolf's head.

Now, so what kind of
distance am I looking at?

- [Brennan] You are
looking at a distance of,

let's see here, that is...

- [Emily] It looks like
it's only two on here.

- [Brennan] It's about,
so it's difficult terrain

so it's gonna be four so
that's 20 up the stairs

and then another 50 to the
top of the wolf's head.

- Gonna keep it simple and just assume

that I just gotta hang onto
this guy's thing and try

and help get rid of the chains
stopping him from biting

so I'm just going to
(mimics bones cracking)

turn into my brown bear fighting stance

or my alpha wolf fighting stance
and then take a full dash.

He has 40 feet of movement
so I technically have 80.

- Hell yeah, give me an
athletics check, DC 10.

- [Emily] Okay.
- Come on.

- [Zac] Are you raging?
- [Murph] You're raging.

- I'm raging, yeah.

(tense music)
(dice rattling)

(Emily exhales deeply)
(dice tapping table)

- [Murph] Nice!
- Two 18s.

- [Brennan] Hell yes.
- [Ally] Nice.

- Red, surging up the stairs

you see these brick platforms out here.

Over the top of the Big Bad
Wolf you see deep in the armor

two bloodshot eyes looking
out from the armor.

The Baron of Bricks is inside that armor.

- Yeah, I figured it.
I wanted his attention.

(Brennan snarls)
So I'm like,

I'm in one of those
restaurants riding the bull.

- Restaurants? In bars? (laughs)

- You leap forward so you-

- My grandma used to take
me here all the time.

- I'm at one of those brunch
spots riding the bull. (laughs)

- Movement and action to get there.

You see the Baron looks
at you and says, (snarls)

I would have thought you
knew what this thing was!

- Yeah, 'cause I am too!

And I throw my hood off and
show what a f*cking wolf I am.

- You leap to the wolf's head.

As you land on the wolf, the
wolf is being boiled to death.

- I do want to land on
the wolf and just like,

essentially emit like a wolf
pheromone that's like...

That just like, makes it so
that my scent is familiar.

- That is gonna give you
automatic advantage on,

I will actually say this is
not any kind of charisma check.

This is an animal handling check.

- Okay.
(sinister music)

Okay, but I have advantage on it?

- [Brennan] You have advantage.

- First one's an eight.

(die taps table)

- 16, you leap on there.

You get the athletics, bam,
land on the wolf's head.

You emit this pheromone.

You see the wolf. (snarls and growls)

And you know that freeing this thing

(intense music)

is incredibly dangerous.

- I know. I fully know.

I think I'm like, fully in like,

I think I just am like, stay mad, baby.

That's where I want you.

We're gonna get these chains off of you.

(Ally laughing)
(cast member clapping)

- You are standing on
top of the wolf's head

in the middle of the boiling cauldron.

This is death itself.

This is the biggest and baddest
thing in all of fairy tale,

and you want to set it free.

At the end of Little Red's turn.

(intense music)
(die taps table)

That is a miss.

You see that the Baron of
Bricks yanks on the wheel

and the spoon swings past trying

to knock Ylfa into the stew.
- [Ally] Oh sh*t.

- And it misses.
- Okay.

- [Brennan] That is one legendary action.

That is going to be Mother Goose.

- Okay, that changes
everything that I was gonna do.

I am going to run my little
30, get to right here,

and then I will cast Mage Hand

to run defense on the spoon for Ylfa.

- Mage Hand is not-

- Strong enough for the big spoon.

- [Brennan] Strong enough to stop a-

- You're saying a 10-pound force

doesn't stop this big spoon?
- But can't it just kinda,

like, nudge it a little bit, a little.

- I'm gonna need a spell
slot. I'm gonna need some...

If you think I'm gonna
let you cantrip your way

out of this sh*t, you
got another thing coming.

Nice try. Give me some Ice Feast
and we'll see what happens.

(players laughing)

- You know, in that case, I
think I might cast Ice Feast.

(Brennan laughing)

Okay then, I will then full dash right...

- [Brennan] 30, and you just get-

- [Ally] Kinda pretty much in there.

- [Brennan] Just to the other side.

Yeah, you're like, almost like hiding

within that space in
between, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Healing Word to the wolf.

At the end of Mother Goose's

but my plan is to snip this
chain and get outta here.

'cause even if there's
chains hanging from the wolf,

the wolf can still get around.

to be, although Ylfa-

- It's closing its mouth.

- You do take 33 bludgeoning

Ylfa, you take 10 halved

- [Brennan] Mother Goose
you take 13 piercing damage

as he just fires from
these chimneys on him

these super-hot shards
of shrapnel that just,

(mimics shrapnel thrusting) fly out.

Fly out as a ranged attack.
That is going to be Pib.

- [Zac] Can I make a perception check

just to get a little more
of a lay of the land?

- [Brennan] Yeah, give me investigation.

(die tapping table)

- Okay, 18. I would like to
disable this spoon somehow.

- Looking at the spoon,
all this sh*t is enormous

- [Brennan] Yes.
- [Zac] On that investigation,

can I see anything with this

- The nails are definitely a weak point

Because they're settled.

It's like, these chains are
magical and super strong,

but you gotta nail them into somewhere

and they're nailed into mundane
brick and mortar, right?

- Okay.
- [Brennan] So really,

it's more like you're fighting
the mortar and the brick

- Yeah, which I'm not good at so I'm-

- There's also the ability

to send your creatures
that have the ability

to move creatures that

I will allow you to either
add the swarm damage

have this movement thing

you can double the swarm damage

the swarm can give you

dice that you're rolling.

- Great, I will do the damage.

- Cool, so you're adding an extra d6,

them to move the thing.

has a nice amount of hit points,

- I think it's me.

- [Brennan] Yeah, that's gonna be Ylfa.

- Okay, so I'm just gonna try to...

I see that these chains are
keeping his mouth closed

so I wanna try to bite and claw
the chains around his mouth.

- [Brennan] Okay.
- Basically weaken it.

- [Brennan] Okay.

- The first attack is going to be a 19.

- A 19 is going to hit.

- Okay, I'm nervous that just...

Okay, that is seven damage.

- Seven damage does not
overcome the damage threshold.

- Okay, oh, I have a help action

so I will, for the claws,
use the help action.

That's 18 to hit.
- 18 hits.

- Okay.

(dice tapping table)

Okay, seven plus six is 13.

- 13 overcomes the damage threshold.

What does that look like? You
just start biting into them?

- Yeah, I think I'm just
like, as animal as possible

just like, (mimics ferocious
gnawing) like teeth on metal.

- You start chewing through metal.

You already saw, like,

Pib is wielding the
fangs of the great wolf,

and those fangs can chew through anything.

This wolf can blow down houses.

It can certainly chew through metal.

You bite through. You
deal 13 points of damage.

The muzzle is still there,
but you have badly torn up

and mangled the links of the chain.

- Okay, I think then I'm going
to regain three hit points

by turning a spell slot into that.

And then can I use my movement?

I see Pib getting into an area

that I wanna make sure that
he doesn't become the target

so now I think I wanna try and jump.

- [Brennan] Hell yeah.
- [Emily] Out of the way

of this and start closing
the distance with him.

- Hell yeah, okay. So you're
gonna use your movement.

Give me another athletics check.

- Okay.

16 and 15 so 21.

- 21, hell yeah. You leap.

And even drowning and boiling to death,

you feel as you get to the nose
the wolf, give you a little.

- I think I nose nuzzle
him and then leap off.

- The wolf, you can see,
changes from this kind of...

Like, even in its fury you
see its heart has changed

from wanting to k*ll to realizing

that there is a friend in the
room and trying to get out.

- Cool.
- [Brennan] You,

(mimics impact) and you
land here, your speed is-

- [Emily] My speed is 40 right now.

- [Brennan] 40, hell yeah.

So 40's gonna get you all the way so you-

- [Emily] Yeah, so I wanna get away.

Yeah, as close to him as I can.

- [Brennan] Hell yes, great, great, great.

Mother Goose, that's you.

- Okay, great, I wanna move forward,

but there is just this
one flame right here.

Can I try to jump through it?

- You will have to make
a dexterity saving throw

getting through that fire there.

What I will also say is this, though.

You hear clockwork in the fire everywhere.

So you think that the fire
may soon, like, move away.

- Shift.
- Shift somewhere else.

So you could potentially
wait to jump somewhere else.

- Yeah, then I'll hold my action,

and my action will be to run
and hide kind of in this-

- [Brennan] Area over there.
- [Ally] Area.

- [Brennan] Cool.

- And then bonus action Bardic to you.

- [Brennan] Awesome.
- [Murph] Nice.

- Thank you.
- Bonus action Bardic to Ylfa.

Sick as hell.

Mother Goose is holding an
action for when the fire shifts.

That's going to be the Baron.

(mimics metal pounding)
Moves up and is going to get-

- Animal v. machine.

- [Brennan] (laughs) Is gonna get it-

- Let's discover.

- 18 halved to nine slashing damage.

- Okay, I come out of
my alpha wolf stance.

- Okay, I come out of
my alpha wolf stance.

- As you come out of your stance

as this giant ax blade arm
rains down on you, boom!

The Baron towers over you.

Wasn't everything taken
from you by this creature?

- No, this creature gave me my life.

And the creature that was in your story

is just not who he is.

- I know who this creature is,

and I know who he soon will be.

- Who's the real monster here?

He k*lled two of your friends,

you t*rture him for eternity?

- Don't you understand?

When we boil him away,
there will be no more death.

It will be a beautiful world.

And you see a huge shadow reaches in

and you see deep in this pig's eyes

like a deep magic of wanting
to control everything.

You see this pig has an
awareness similar to yours

and is doing something like-

- 'Cause he partook of the flesh as well.

- He has eaten of this soup
and you think he can see, like,

he is trying to remove
death from the world.

There's some weird undead
energy within this baron.

- Okay look, you don't get
beginnings without endings, okay?

- [Brennan] I beg to
differ! Pib, you're next.

- Can I make like an
inspection on his mech suit?

- Yeah, yeah, yeah, go for it.

- [Zac] Get up closer.
- Yeah.

- That's pretty good.

(papers shuffling)
(intense music)

Dirty 20.

- He's got a bunch of ranged attacks

and he's got some attacks
that are a lot stronger

that you haven't seen yet.

- [Ally] Ooh.
- Well, I think I'm in range

to throw a dagger at him, right?

- He's got...

Yeah, actually, you know what?

You can get a shot off on him.

- And he's within five feet of an ally?

- [Brennan] He's within
five feet of an ally.

That's correct.

- I literally was trying to
set you up for sneak attack.

- Okay, I'm gonna bonus action hide.

- [Brennan] Cool.
- And then...

- [Brennan] Take a shot with advantage.

- This is my hide.
- [Brennan] Yeah, go for it.

- That's a 22.

- 22 hits. Go ahead and roll damage.

- [Zac] 22 to hide again.
- Oh, 22 to hide.

Yes, so you are rolling with
advantage. You have hidden.

- Come on.
- [Ally] Come on.

- [Lou] Come on.
- [Siobhan] Come on, buddy.

Yeah.

- 17?

- 17 does not hit.
- Damn.

- [Emily] Aw!
- That f*cking sucks.

- Dagger flies out,
cling against the armor.

Anything else you wanna do on your turn?

- I am going to try to
get out of line of sight

so I will like, hide on the
backside of that column.

- Cool, yeah. You can move to
anywhere you wanna move to.

- [Zac] Can I be here? Is that gonna-

- [Brennan] Yeah, absolutely.

- [Zac] Yeah, I think that would be cool.

- [Brennan] Cool.

- [Zac] I just think that's cool.

- [Murph] I think it would just be rad.

- [Brennan] You leap to
kind of this spinning,

rotating platform at
the base of the spoon.

- Is that out of line
of sight? Sorry, just...

- It is probably not.

Probably have to get here to be out of-

- [Zac] Maybe I'll go there.

- [Brennan] Cool.
- [Zac] Yeah.

- You leap over here,
hiding behind the corner

and you see his weird little
laboratory office sort of area.

At the end of your turn,
the Baron lifts up the spoon

and is going to push the
wolf deeper into the pot.

- Oh!

- [Lou] I didn't know that
was a thing he could do!

(metallic clanking resounds)

- And you see submerges the wolf,

and you see boiling soup
touch the wolf's eyes

as he screams and howls.

And again the Baron looks at you and says,

you will thank me for
what I have done this day.

And that is going to be Rosamund's turn.

- So if I cast Entangle on this spoon now,

it'll keep pushing the wolf down.

- Where it is at this moment, yes.

- But if you went after that thing again,

maybe it would have the
movement to get away.

- Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

- [Murph] We gotta break
these chains, I think.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

- I'm gonna go for the same chain.

- [Brennan] Okay, here you go.

- Yeah, that's a 21.
- That is going to be a hit.

- And I'll do the same thing with the-

- [Brennan] With the extra damage.

Yes, yes, yes, absolutely.
- Damage from my little birds.

- [Ally] Yes.
- Go to it, little creatures!

That is a 22.

(Emily cheers)
- Flying from your bow,

(Brennan mimics bowstring twanging)

with a stream of sparrows behind it...

(chain clanking)
- [Siobhan] Nice.

- [Emily] Yes!
- Dropping into the stew.

Ping, the first one in
there, and you hear (snarls)

and you see the wolf bucking
against the spoon over its head

as the first chain comes out.

And you see, Red, you're
locked in mortal combat.

The Baron's head fully turns to look

at that chain coming off and
the body posture changes.

- Yeah, that's right. Get scared.

(Brennan laughs)

- The Big Bad Wolf is coming for you.

- Not by the hairs of my chinny chin chin!

(players laughing)

That spoon is gonna swing,

I actually think, for Mother Goose.

- Oh, can I actually,
though, move 20 feet forward?

- [Brennan] Yeah, yeah,
yeah. Move to here?

- [Siobhan] Great, yeah.

- In that case, you move into range,

and it's gonna come for you.

- I'll take it. I think I have more...

Wait, no Mother...

Mother Goose has 41 hit...

I'll move. I'll keep out
of range. (Emily laughing)

- [Brennan] You stay out of range?

- [Siobhan] Mother Goose has
10 more hit points than me!

- [Emily] Really? 10?

- Spoon comes swinging
for Mother Goose on a hit.

Give me a strength saving
throw, Mother Goose.

- Okay.
- [Lou] Come on, Mother Goose.

- Nat 20.
- Nice.

(Emily laughing)
- Wow!

You take 31 points of damage.
- [Siobhan] Oh my God.

- I'm down.

- [Brennan] You're down?
- I'm down, I had 28.

- Oh sh*t, I didn't realize
you were at 28. I'm sorry.

- That's okay.
- I would have also been down.

- [Brennan] Mother Goose goes down, boom!

31 points of damage and fall prone.

Thankfully you don't
take any falling damage

'cause you were on the ground,

but you are fallen on
these unlit fire traps.

- No!

- [Brennan] That is going to be Pinocchio.

- Is there any way of being
within 90 feet of the Baron

from where I'm at?
- [Brennan] Here's the Baron.

You can just get to pretty much the space

in front of Sleeping Beauty
and you'll be 90 feet.

- Great. I'm gonna run that distance.

Two things, one, I'm gonna Hex the Baron.

- Hell yeah.
(Emily cheers)

- [Lou] And two, I'd like
to make a perception check

on the tank behind him.
- [Ally] Ooh.

- What about the one in front of him?

(Brennan cheers)
- [Siobhan] Nice.

- That's me. I was talking about myself.

- [Siobhan] Oh, this tank.

- [Lou] I think, there are two-

- [Siobhan] I was like, is there a tank?

- [Zac] There's actually not one-

- [Brennan] Give me a perception check.

- [Ally] What are you talking about?

- [Lou] Yeah, what are you talking about?

There is a second smaller
tank. Do you mean that tank?

- Oh, it's nothing, I
give up. I need to go.

- It's a seven.
- Cricket is there

to give you a help action if you want one.

- I'll take it. Cricket, we've
got this in the bag, right?

- Hey, yes.
- That's a 21.

- Cricket looks up as you're
gazing through the smoke

and the steam, Cricket looks out and says,

hey there, I think that's
gotta be some kind of stock.

Maybe chicken, could be a pork.

Maybe something rich almost like a ramen.

- Okay, got it, so probably also hot.

Probably wouldn't cool things down or-

- The soup!

- Cricket goes, well, wait a minute!

And on that help action with
Cricket you get that 21.

You do see that this

would probably just spill out and go down.

If it went into the fire of the cauldron,

you see how massive the fire is,

but it also might flood into the traps.

- [Lou] Hmm.

- [Emily] Yeah, so then
they couldn't light on fire.

- [Siobhan] That would be great.

- Okay, all right.

Thanks, Cricket, 'cause I
was fully gonna move away

and do other stuff.

(Brennan and Emily laughing)

I will Hex the Baron.

He has disadvantage on ability
checks made with strength.

- Okay.
- So I'll do that.

And then I'm going to Eldritch Blast

one of the legs of the tank.

- How carefully chosen.

Go ahead and give me your attack roll.

- Great, no help from Cricket
'cause he's helping me...

That's a natural 20.
- Yes!

- Oh, baby! All right.

This thing's AC was only 15,
and because you're hitting

this structural thing underneath it,

I will tell you right now,

this thing only has 10
hit points, no threshold.

If you can chew through 10 hit
points this thing comes down.

- I gotta be able to chew
through 10 hit points.

- Let's actually go Box
of Doom for this one.

- [Lou] What? Why?

- 'Cause this is maybe gonna
save Mother Goose's life.

- Oh...
(Ally laughs)

Okay.
- Okay, come on,

come on, come on.

- Kisses, go kisses, prove yourself.

(dice clattering)
Oh!

- [Brennan] Six, three, that's only nine.

- Oh sh*t!
- f*ck! Oh, plus four.

- 13, there it is, baby!
- [Siobhan] Okay, all right.

- Hell yeah.
- [Emily] Oh my God!

- [Brennan] Okay.
- I zoned out.

- So all you watch golden strings

as Cricket flies across the cauldron

and strings wrap around
the legs of the Baron

as the Hex spell undergoes

and a Cricket-like blast shoots across.

Boom, just hits one corner of
this thing. (mimics creaking)

(metal rumbling)

Boom, it hits, bursts
(mimics liquid splashing)

and stock comes rushing out
of the barrel, floods down.

The fire trap hazard is no more,
eliminated from the battle.

- [Ally] All of them or
just the ones on that side?

- [Brennan] Just the ones on this side.

The fire keeping the cauldron
lit is still there, but-

- [Murph] What about the stuff over here?

- [Brennan] Gone.
- [Murph] Great.

- [Emily] Oh, amazing!

- [Brennan] You k*lled the pilot

underneath those fire
traps and it is gone.

- [Ally] Nice.
- But it is leaking gas.

- (laughs) Roll for lung health, yeah.

- [Brennan] Everyone roll constitution.

- Roll for double vision.
- Two more things.

I think I'm gonna do all
that, go, okay, very cool.

And then hobble back behind.
(cast laughing)

- [Brennan] Yes, copy that.

- But Cricket has his own
movement. He's got 60 fly.

- [Brennan] Yes.
- [Siobhan] Wow.

- And I think I'm gonna
pull the Sword of Truth

out of my bag and go, will you
take this to the froggy guy?

His name's Gerard.

- Well, a Sword of Truth.

Now that's a sword I can get behind.

- Oh yeah, yeah. It's probably...

It's, yeah, a lot of people
from where we come from

would probably love that sword.

- Yeah, for sure. I love it, too.

- [Zac] A lot of chemistry.

- The sword says, ha-ha,
to be returned to the hands

of a prince true and fair who only wishes

to reunite with his six lost brothers.

- Well this is honestly...

No, I don't think it's that guy.

- No?
- No, the other prince.

- [Brennan] Which?
- It's, he's-

- [Brennan] Find.
- Golden ball.

- Princess asleep?
- No, no, go-

- Do you know that one?
- Yeah, I've heard that one.

She's in a glass coffin right?
- No.

(cast laughing)

- You see that the Cricket
leaps with the sword

and rushes the sword to Gerard.

- Great.
- 60 fly

so he'll go as much as he can,

but he used his action
to help me so no dash.

- Just a cricket carrying a sword.

(Ally laughs)
(Siobhan buzzes)

- And it's just borrowing!
Well, I guess it is yours.

- I found it.

- Well, you kinda gave it to me, though.

- Can I have it?
- Fine.

(cast laughing)

- Incredible, this is where you got it

in the last possible moment.

This is where I would
roll for the fire trap,

and there is no rolling to be done.

We bypassed that hazard.
Gerard, that's gonna be you.

- Yikes, okay.
(Brennan laughs)

First thing's first,
doing a little Second Wind

to see if we can get some
HP back 'cause I was hurt.

That's seven HP back.
- Nice.

- So with Mother Goose going
down, I get the sense, right,

that the spoon can hit
me while I'm down here.

- [Brennan] Yes.

- Okay, can I jump up,
do an attack on the chain

and then try to get down
and wedge myself in here,

give myself cover from the spoon?

- [Brennan] Oh sh*t.
- [Emily] Ooh.

- [Brennan] Your jump is just
movement. That's five, 10.

Yeah, you absolutely have
enough movement. Yep.

- [Emily] Great.
- I think I'll just do

like a "Final Fantasy" death blow break

where I just like, swing down.

- [Brennan] Yeah, you just
froggy jump straight up.

- Jump up, boom.

- Go ahead and give me an attack roll.

- [Zac] And you're using
the Sword of Truth for that?

- Oh yeah, can I use the Sword of Truth?

- Sword of Truth. Hell yeah.

Plus one bonus to attack and
damage made with this weapon.

- [Siobhan] Nice.

- You gain the True Strike cantrip.

You also gain blindsight
to a range of 10 feet.

- Ooh.
- [Ally and Siobhan] Whoa!

- So Wolverine.
(Brennan and Ally laughing)

- Hell yeah, there you go.

There's some other stuff, too,

but you guys don't have Identify.

- Sweet, come on.

Ooh yeah, that's a 22.

- 22 hits. Go ahead and roll damage.

- Sweet, I'll do...

Does anybody need any movement?

- I could use movement
'cause I have Cure Wounds

if I can get to Mother Goose.

- Sick, okay.
- [Brennan] Hell yeah.

- In that case I will do
another Maneuvering Strike.

So if you can hear me,
you can use your reaction

to move half your speed.

- So can I just jump straight off?

- Hell yeah, I won't even
count the movement as difficult

if you're willing to take
10 feet of falling damage.

- Great, I'll take it.

- [Brennan] You take three
points of falling damage.

- [Siobhan] Great.
- And go five, 10, 15.

So you all watch Gerard hops up,

and Sleeping Beauty
leaps, bam, hits the deck

and starts running down the
dis-ignited, dis-ignited?

Fire traps to get to Mother Goose.

- Sure.
- [Brennan] Sure, why not?

- I did 12 damage.

- Whoom, ribbit, bam!

Sword cleaves into it

and the second of four chains comes undone

as you cleave it from
the brick and mortar.

- Ha-ha, the heroic prince.
(mimics slime slurping)

- You feel your slime deposited
on the hot, dry brick.

- Blep.
- Blep, your squishiness

is part of what's making this work.

You know, you kinda get in here.

- Oh my God.

- [Brennan] And you can see

that was absolutely coming for you

right at the end of your turn.

Looking for someone to interact with,

it's gonna push the wolf down again.

- [Lou] No!

- Okay, I rolled a nat one.

It does not push the wolf
down further into the stew.

- Wow, well, the wolf has
some maneuverability now.

- [Brennan] Has some
maneuverability now all of a sudden.

- Head butts it.

- That is going to be
Little Red Riding Hood.

- Okay, I know that this
is an insane premise,

but if I were to grapple him,

could I drag him away from his levers?

- You absolutely could.
- Nice.

- And though he is incredibly massive,

he has disadvantage on strength.

- [Siobhan] Nice.
- [Ally] Hell yeah.

- Combo, guys. (claps)
- [Emily] Okay.

- We're combo-ing!
- [Siobhan] Freaking combo.

- You're doing it! You're combo-ing!

- You're combo-ing-
- That's right, Cricket.

- I love this cricket.
- combo-ing.

- Okay, I think this is pretty huge

'cause this spoon is the...

- [Emily] Oh yeah.
- Is a m*therf*cker.

Oh by the way, start of your turn

you immediately take four
halved to two slashing damage.

- Okay.
- Just from like,

whirling gears of just being
near this f*cking Baron.

Well, I'm gonna roll disadvantage,

but he's still got a plus
five, his raw strength of 20.

- [Ally] All right.
- With disadvantage.

(dice tapping Box of Doom)

Six plus five is 11.

You just need to beat
an 11 in the Box of Doom

on an athletics check.
- You got this, you got this.

- [Siobhan] Come on, with advantage.

- I got it, 13 plus five, 18.

- [Ally] Net.

- Little Red Riding Hood
(Emily shouts)

successfully grapples
the third little pig.

- Oh my God!

- And then can I drag him my movement?

- [Brennan] Half your movement.

- [Emily] I wanna start
dragging him towards the-

- (screams) Okay.

- [Lou] Throw him in the lava!
- So you're gonna go five,

10, 15 and you are, what's
your form you're in?

- And now I will bonus action
go back into alpha wolf.

- You bonus action go
back into alpha wolf.

So you drag him all of
the way from his spoon.

He is like, struggling
for dear f*cking life.

- [Ally] Yes!

- [Brennan] What does this even look-

- You're gonna meet your unmaker.

- (laughs) You see as you pull
him he's, no, no, no, no, no!

And you see the wolf. (growls)

- Don't make anything

that you don't wanna f*cking
be on the receiving end of.

That's just a good life lesson.

(Ally laughs)
- Incredible.

You grapple him, pull him closer.

He's out of legendaries at the moment.

Mother Goose, I'm gonna need
a death saving throw from you.

- Okay.
(intense music)

Nine.

- That is a failure for Mother Goose.

It is the Baron's turn.

Even though he's got disadvantage,

I think he can see that damage

is just not chewing through
this little werewolf

so he's going to make two shove attempts.

Shove will automatically break grapple,

and he will push you
five feet into the lava.

He has a plus five to these rolls.

He's making them with
disadvantage due to Hex

so he's choosing something...

This is something he's
statistically not likely

to succeed on, but it's the
only path he's got out of here.

And the reward, if it happens
for him, is pretty high.

So this is, and I think 18d10 fire damage,

even as tough as Ylfa is, is pretty steep.

He's making two shove attempts.

They're both with disadvantage.

- And are they opposed?
- They're opposed

so you'll be rolling with advantage.

(dice rattling)

Okay, that's an eight. You
just have to beat an eight.

That's a 19 on the die. You're solid.

- [Ally] Nice, nice.
- [Siobhan] Nice, nice, nice.

- Nice, Ylfa.
- [Brennan] Here's number two.

- Oh God.

(dice rattling)
(tense music)

Okay, not bad.

- 16 and four. You just
have to beat a nine.

Those are some bad rolls from the Baron.

Nine.
- Nine plus five.

- 14, okay.
(players clapping)

So twice you see this giant boar mech

trying to shove and shake
you off into the stew.

- Animal v. machine. Animal is ascendant.

- [Brennan] Pib, that's gonna be you.

- I go for the controls and
I yell, Red, can you let go?

(Brennan laughs)

I don't know if it will...
- Yeah, would I be able to?

- You can drop out of
grapple as a free action.

- Okay, I'm gonna go on the controls.

- [Brennan] Uh-huh.
- [Ally] Nice.

- [Zac] Try to put the...

- [Brennan] Yeah, yeah, yeah,
A million percent, absolutely.

Everything within the cauldron
in reachable by the spoon so-

- Hit him from that side with the spoon

and knock him into the fire.

- Okay, you rush to the controls.

You are going to make an attack roll.

The attack with this
action is plus 13 to hit.

The attack with this
action is plus 13 to hit.

This is what the spoon's been rolling.

- Okay, from here I'm gonna
bonus help action to you

'cause that's the only
thing I can really...

I can't give it to myself, and
I'm going to take the attack.

- Go ahead and take the attack.

- [Zac] All right.
- [Emily] Yeah.

- [Lou] With the cat die.

- 11 on the die.

- 24.
- [Zac] 24.

- That absolutely hits.

Does Hex do saving
throws? Okay, copy that.

Go ahead and give me
4d8 plus seven damage.

- Yay!
- Oh, wow.

- Oh my God.
- Yay!

(dice tapping table)
(epic music)

- 18 on the die. He saves
against being knocked in.

- 18 damage plus what?

- [Brennan] Seven so 25.
- 25 to him.

- So everyone watches Ylfa
dragging this monstrosity

towards the stew, and you
have to get your full body

on the wheel to get the
weight on it that it needs.

- Come on.
- [Brennan] Come on.

- [Siobhan] Like a cat on
one of those exercise wheels.

- [Zac] I think this is made
for maybe like a giant mech.

(cast laughing)

- You wheel and smack the
Baron for 25 points of damage.

Bam, you see a huge amount
of damage dealt to him.

Rosamund, that's you.

- Okay, I'm gonna move 30 feet forward,

but that won't get me
quite to Mother Goose.

- [Brennan] Mm-hmm.
- But I will do the movement.

- [Brennan] Okay, copy that.
- [Siobhan] So one, two,

three, four, five, six-

- [Zac] Is Healing Word a longer distance?

- I don't have Healing Word.

- If you can hold your action,
I can give you another-

- [Brennan] You can ready an
action to Cure Wounds, yeah.

- And I can Maneuvering Attack.

- I can also, I have a
thing where if I hit him,

I can move him 15 feet.

- Oh, move him into the thing.

- Into the thing if he fails
a strength saving throw.

- [Murph] Got it.
- So I can do...

Like, which do you think is better? I'm...

- Whichever you wanna do.
- Yeah, hit him.

- [Murph] Both are good.
- [Zac] Yeah.

- Great, I'll hit him.
I'll try and hit him.

- Go ahead and give me an attack roll.

- That's a critical fail.
- [Emily] Aw...

- Fire the arrow, (mimics
metal ping) off of the armor.

That's gonna be Pinocchio.

- Okay, I'm gonna move...

Now that we're in control
of the damn spoon,

I'm gonna go hang out near the soup.

Gerard, do you need
Cricket for any reason?

- I mean, I'm going to miss eventually.

- You should take the
help action from Cricket.

- I'll throw out here,

Mother Goose is making death
saving throws and on a nat one

Mother Goose will be fully dead.

- I know, I know, I know.
- Yeah.

- [Brennan] Make sense?
- Oh, I guess,

would you allow a help
action on a death save?

- Yeah, for sure. Help action
on a death save is possible.

- [Murph] Yeah, that's fine.
- Yeah.

- I'm dead and it's like...

- [Brennan] Just a cricket on your head.

- Yeah, if Cricket can get there.

- I can play the violin with my legs.

- And give a help action
to the death save.

- [Brennan] Okay.
- If you'll allow that.

- Yes, I will allow that.

So Cricket is going to leap
across. (mimics lively buzzing)

Big Cricket leap to Mother Goose.

Actions and bonus actions from Pinocchio.

- Oh, I'm gonna try and Eldritch Blast.

I'm gonna try and prime the
one on the left for Gerard.

- [Brennan] Hell yeah, let's go.

(die taps table)
(dramatic music)

- Does a 12 hit?
- 12 does not hit.

- Go get 'em, Gerard!

- Okay. (laughs)
- That's all you, baby.

That's all you.
- Nice fireworks.

- [Ally] Okay.
- I wasn't going for that.

I was trying to do something else.

- (mimics energy zipping) Off those fire.

And actually Gerard, you're up next.

- All right, I'm just gonna
keep it going, I think.

I'm gonna do the same
thing but on this one.

- [Brennan] Cool.
- [Murph] So I'll do a jump

and I'll try to slash as I go.

- Hell yeah. Go for it.
- [Murph] Cool.

- [Brennan] The attack roll.

- That is a...

15 or no, no, no, 16 to hit.

- 16 does not hit.

- Oh! I'll do Saving Face.
- Yay!

- [Brennan] Yes.

- Add based on who I
can see within 30 feet.

- You can see me, baby.
- [Brennan] Yes, you got it.

- Okay, great.
- 17 does it, you hit.

- Great, so I'll just do a d8.

God, this dice is retired.

That's eight damage.

- Does not pass the damage threshold.

- f*ck me forever.

I am going to then Action Surge

and use a Commander's Strike.

- [Ally] Hell yeah.
- [Brennan] Hell yeah.

- Give Pib an attack.
- [Brennan] Cool.

- Okay, I'm gonna-
- You have an attack.

You can use the spoon as an attack.

- [Zac] All right.

- This guy's been attacking
three times a round with it.

- [Emily] Ooh!
- [Ally] Hell yeah.

- I will use the spoon and try that again.

- Yes, go for it. Give
me another attack roll.

(die tapping table)
(energetic music)

- What do I add to it?

- [Brennan] Plus 13.
- 19.

- 19 hits, you're good.
- [Zac] Okay.

- [Murph] Sick.
- Go ahead.

I'm gonna roll another save.

Wow, another 18 on the
die. 4d8 plus seven.

- And then do I add something
for Commander's Strike?

- Yeah, another d8.
- Okay, so 5d8.

- [Ally] Wow.
- 5d8 plus seven, here we go.

- [Emily] Do you get to add sneak attack?

- Nice, dude.
- Pretty good, okay.

- [Ally] Wow.

- Oh yeah, he is within
five feet of an enemy.

Can he add sneak?
- Oh, this is sort of...

Yeah, actually this and the last attack

both should have add sneak attack on them.

- [Emily] Yeah.
- Okay.

So for this, okay, so
let me just add this up.

- Yeah, it's a lot.

- 30 on the d8s plus seven.

- 37 damage, and give me two
rounds worth of sneak attack.

- Okay, so that would be 4d6.

- [Brennan] 4d6. Go ahead and roll 4d6.

- Another 14 damage.
- Wow!

- [Brennan] Marone, incredible.

- 51 points of damage.
- 51 points.

- [Brennan] 51 points of damage.

- [Ally] Wow.
- As you're driving this thing

you see the spoon just bam, bam!

You see steam and stuff
coming out of the gears.

- Have you been a naughty boy

'cause a spoon's coming after you.

The cook's spanking you with the spoon.

- Red, that's going to be you.

- I think I'm just gonna shove him.

- [Lou] Shove him!

- [Zac] And you have
my help action, right?

- Well, I have advantage on-
- [Brennan] You're raging.

- [Ally] Versus his
disadvantage is a great idea.

- But I'll use the help
action after all to be safe.

- And I'll say this, too.

This round you see inside the mech,

the Baron begins to scramble for controls

of something that looks like
a different set of controls

than he's been using before.

- Uh-oh, yeah, get him in that soup.

- I think I'm thinking of Mother Goose

and how he was gonna cast
heat metal and I'm like,

well, I can't cast a spell,

but I can light this
f*cking mech suit on fire.

(Ally laughs)
- [Brennan] Hell yeah.

- I'll heat the metal for you, baby.

(dramatic music)
(dice clatter)

- (sighs) 17 and a natural one.

- Yeah! (claps)

- So that's automatic fail.

- [Emily] Should I?
- Just don't get two nat ones.

Yeah, that's a 14.

- Nice!
- [Ally] Wow!

- [Brennan] Incredible!

(Emily mimics shove slamming)

Okay-
- I think I'm like,

Pinocchio, I don't know what
you did to this guy but...

- I'm not 100% sure either.
We're figuring out a lot!

- Red, you grab the legs
of this mech, pick it up,

and (grunts) throw it in.

Everyone send your kids to camp.

You need to roll 18d10 damage.

- [Ally] Wow!
(Emily giggling joyously)

- [Murph] 8d10?
- [Brennan] 18d10.

One eight d 10 damage.

- [Lou] That's three.
- Here's another three.

- There's a couple.

- [Ally] I'm dead but I'm like,

she's so damn strong.
- [Brennan] Here you go.

You guys watch Red grab this thing

and just hurl the entire
mech into the cauldron.

- 116 damage! Oh, and I'm raging. (laughs)

- Is that a plus two?
- I was kidding.

I don't have to add two.
- Incredible!

So all of you watch Red
(grunts) hurl the mech.

(mimics liquid splashing)
Steam, the thing splits open.

You hear (squeals) this pig squeal.

The mech is utterly destroyed,
and as it begins to sink,

a badly-scalded screaming brick pig

emerges,

scrambling and crawling
out of the top of the mech

out on the very verge of
sinking into the soup.

I will let you know that
outside of the mech,

the pig's initiative was
just before Red's turn

so he has a whole round to wait.

- [Siobhan] Oh, amazing.
- Oh!

- So screaming, trying
to claw out of the mech.

And you see looks around. (squeals)

And turns around and sees
the wolf right next to him.

Mother Goose, that's your turn.
I need a death saving throw.

- [Siobhan] You have advantage.

- [Lou] With advantage.
- [Brennan] With advantage.

- Good, 16.

- [Brennan] 16.
- Roll to see if you crit.

- [Emily] Yeah, roll to see if you crit.

- [Brennan] Roll to see if you crit.

- Oh, does that give me two saves?

- You get up, you get up.

- [Brennan] Yeah, 'cause
you have a help action.

- 18.
- No.

- That's a success and a failure.

Pib, that's gonna be you.

- I'm gonna use the spoon
to break one of the chains.

- Yeah!
- [Brennan] Hell yeah.

- I'm gonna swing at
this chain over there.

- [Ally] Ooh, that's so smart.
- And slam it.

- [Brennan] Go ahead
and make an attack roll.

- All right.
- [Ally] Oh, that's so smart.

- 10 plus 13.

- 23 hits. Go ahead and
roll 4d8 plus seven.

- 4d8 plus seven?
- [Brennan] Yeah.

- That's 23.

- [Brennan] These things
have 20 hit points.

(players cheering)
- [Ally] Oh, sh*t.

- Just bam! Pib, you smash
the spoon through another one.

- And bonus action help to Ylfa.

- Thank you, thank you.
- [Brennan] To Ylfa.

Hell yeah. Rosamund, that's you.

- I will cure Mother Goose.
- [Murph] Nice.

- For 12 points of damage.
- Hey, hell yeah.

- [Brennan] Boom, you leap-

- [Murph] Points of healing damage.

- [Brennan] 12 to this-
- Mother Goose,

now that you're here,
maybe we can just get...

Instead of k*lling this guy,

maybe we could just put him in your book.

Is that crazy?

- Can we put the spoon in the
book? Is the spoon the thing?

- [Brennan] Pinocchio, that's you.

- Is the chimney the
thing? What's the thing?

What's the representational?
Is there a brick lying around?

- Okay, are we trying
to put the pig in a book

or are we just gonna
f*cking knock him out?

- I'm cool with just murdering him.

- I would put the pig in the wolf.

- Okay, cool, cool. Okay, yeah, yeah.

- Okay, pig goes in the wolf?
- Pig goes in the wolf.

- [Murph] Pig goes in the wolf.

- Pig goes in the wolf.
- Pig in the wolf.

- Pig in the wolf.

- I don't know if I need
to, but if I need to

I'll use my bonus action to move the Hex

from the mech to the pig.

- That you actually do
so that's a good move.

- Great, so still strength.

Cricket will give Mother
Goose a help action.

(Brennan laughs)
- Where am I?

- (laughs) Covered in broth as well.

- And I'll take another shot
on the one that Gerard...

- Hell yeah.

(die taps table)
(dramatic music)

- f*ck me. That's another five.

- What were you doing?

- I was going for the other thing.

- Oh.
- [Brennan] Gotcha.

Gerard, that's gonna be you again.

- All right, Pib.
- Yeah?

- If you sort of turn the spoon
up and swing it back around

you can probably do this one
up here that I missed before.

- Okay.
- I use Commander's Strike.

- [Brennan] Hell yeah.
- On Pib.

- You know, just another
blue collar little cat

working his job at the factory.

- Don't make him any more
cute than he already is!

- [Siobhan] Oh, he's got a little-

- [Ally] A blue collar.

- [Siobhan] Where'd you
get that little hat?

- He's literally wearing a blue collar.

- [Ally] Yeah.
- Plus 13 to hit?

- [Brennan] Plus 13.
- 18.

- 18 hits.
- [Zac] Okay.

- [Ally] Wow, this is crazy.
- Plus another d8, right?

Because of the Commander's Strike?

- Yeah, 'cause of Commander's
Strike, 5d8 plus seven, yep.

- [Ally] Nice.

- Does he sneak attack 'cause I'm there?

- [Brennan] Ooh, yeah, you
get a little sneak attack.

But how much damage is that?

- That's like 30.

- Boom, the last chain keeping the wolf

in the pot comes down,
(mimics wind rushing) bam!

Pib, you're the pro with
this thing at this point.

- I could see myself
doing something like this

in the future. (laughs)

- The last chain comes
down with the exception of,

there's still the muzzle,

badly weakened.
- Okay.

- [Brennan] Only with
a few hit points left.

And that's the brick pig's turn.

The brick pig is going to leap
forward here to this place.

(squeals wildly) He's
gonna make a full dash.

- [Emily] But wouldn't I
get an opportunity attack?

- You would get an opportunity
attack as he moves past you.

- [Siobhan] Nice.
- Yeah.

Since he's coming up, do I get advantage

'cause he's like, below me?

- He is below. Yeah, he is coming.

You threw him into the
f*cking stew so yeah, this is-

- I'm gonna go for it.
I'm gonna go to claw him.

That's definitely gonna hit. It's a 24.

- Ooh.
- [Siobhan] Nice.

- 24 absolutely hits. Go
ahead and roll damage.

- 14 damage.
- Hell yeah.

Badly injured as you (growls)
slash out clawing him.

Stumbles, he's gonna go one,
two, three, four, five, six

and actually I think he will
take one last swing at you.

(Brennan sighs dejectedly)
(Murph chuckles)

- It's okay if you want to hit me.

- I do, but I want to live more.

(Emily and Ally laughing)

He takes a swing at you,
is going to rush here

and I think actually he's
rushing right at you, Pib,

to get back on the controls.

- Okay, hang on, guy. Wait your turn.

- However, that's the end of his turn.

He makes it to the controls again

and he's gonna try to wrest
them out of your hands.

Ylfa, that's you.

- I think I just wanna
try to grapple him again

'cause I want this f*cking wolf

to get the last blow on this guy,

and I wanna make sure he
can't get to the lever.

- [Brennan] Hell yeah.

- So I'm going to grapple him again.

- [Brennan] Okay, you
grapple him. He got a-

- I crit.
(Ally laughs exuberantly)

- Just go ahead and
tape those two together.

- You all watch, you guys
all watch a young girl

like, full nelson, like just...

- She's so f*cking strong. (laughs)

(Emily exhales sharply)
- [Murph] Just insane.

- [Brennan] The mech fully
sinks beneath the soup.

- Can the wolf put his little paw on it

like a stepping stool?

- [Brennan] Stepping stool.
- [Emily] Ooh!

- [Brennan] And Mother
Goose, it's your turn.

- Great, I am going to...

Does anyone need heals?
How are you looking?

- I'm pretty bad, but I'm at 16.

- I can bonus action Healing Word you.

I am going to run five,
10, 15, 20, 25, 30.

Yeah, like right there.
- [Brennan] Mm-hmm.

- And I'll throw a bonus
action Healing Word to you.

Four plus what did we decide?

- Four.
- Eight.

- Nice.
- Eight to you.

And then for my action I can't

really do that much,

but I think I will Misty
Step from here onto here.

- [Brennan] Sure.
- So that I can do something

that will help Pinocchio.
- Yeah, you can give-

- Or can I give the help
action from over here?

- [Brennan] I will say from there

you can give the help action to Pinocchio.

- Okay, great, great, great. Cool, yeah.

- Staying in initiative,
this is the squad of you

that all rolled six so this is
Pib, Rosamund, and Pinocchio.

- Okay, Pib is gonna move
here and then hold his action

for after Pinocchio
and has something to do

but will wait for Pinocchio.
(Emily laughs)

- [Brennan] Copy that, cool.
(players laughing)

Okay...
- I hear Pinocchio's great.

- [Brennan] Rosamund and Pinocchio.

- I will also hold my action.
(Emily laughing)

- [Brennan] Also hold your action.

- For after Pinocchio?
- Everyone just decides

this should be Pinoc.
- Yeah, oh wow.

- Everyone's made the call.

- We all thought about it.
It's Pinocchio's moment.

- [Ally] Box of Doom?
- Pinocchio, this is...

- [Lou] Honestly, Pinocchio thought
that maybe - This is your moment.

- [Lou] Rosamund would kinda
do our thing, but no, it's-

- All right, Pinocchio,
let's get it. It's your turn.

- Pinocchio bonus action
Misty Step to get point-blank.

- [Brennan] Point-blank.
- [Lou] Contact.

- Now, if you roll two nat ones

we do end the campaign right here.

- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah. I definitely agree.

- Oh God, I'm gonna throw
up. Okay, here it is.

So this is to hit it.
- [Brennan] Yes.

- What do I need to hit it?
- AC is 17.

- Okay, I add seven.
- Okay, great.

- [Brennan] So hit 10 or
higher on one of these.

(dramatic music)
(dice clatter)

- [Siobhan] Yes.
- [Ally] Okay, thank God.

- [Lou] What's the?
- [Brennan] 14.

- Oh my God.
- Oh my God!

- [Brennan] You hit it.
- It's like, no way!

- Go ahead and roll damage.
- [Lou] Okay.

- 1d10 plus four so you
need a six or higher

to pass the damage threshold.
- Six or higher, okay.

- Pib holding two super
thematic daggers that...

- [Brennan] Yeah.

- No no, hey, everyone back
off. This one's mine, all right!

I feel very bonded.

- This is the culmination
of your story, Pinocchio!

- I feel bonded to this wolf.
- You can do it, Pinocchio.

- Ylfa, I know it's kinda been your thing,

but honestly, I think it's mine.

- I made the decision
that this is your thing.

- This is my thing.

- [Murph] Fulfill your destiny!

- The wolf is inside!
The wolf is inside me!

Seven!
- Seven!

Boom!
- [Ally] Wow!

- Pinocchio, you break the muzzle.

- Wow!
- And all of you

watch the most terrifying thing
you've ever seen and you...

(mimics wind rushing) The wolf leaps up.

(grunts) Grabs the pig,

and in the most violent
thing you've ever seen,

Pinocchio, you are flung
somewhere in the room.

You choose, but this wolf does not wait

for you to be comfortable or-

- My brother!
(players laughing)

- Oh!

- [Lou] Yeah, I definitely
land in Gerard's arms.

I aim for Gerard.
- You aim for Gerard?

Cool, bam, you land
right in Gerard's arms.

The pig goes... (screams)

(Brennan mimics scarfing)

And the wolf emerges from
the soup, badly burned.

And as it stands there, maddened
by the pain and torment,

(growls) you see its glowing eyes,

blood coming from its mouth

as it's devoured the pig in a single bite.

He goes... (breaths heavily)

(Brennan exhales forcefully)

Blows out the fire under the cauldron,

and you are in total darkness

as you hear the breath
of living death itself.

And that's all for this
episode of Dimension 20.

Tune in next week as we see

what the Big Bad Wolf wants to do.

See you then!

People of the City of
Chimneys, our Baron is dead!

- But death, what do you think of this?

This is someone else wielding your power.

- Don't tempt me with a good time.

- I am big and I am bad.

- But so am I now.

- You find missives
between the Baron of Bricks

and a number of fairies.

(Siobhan gasps)
- Oh.

- The vengeance I seek is at Snowhold.

- And vengeance is important.

- Many places in Snowhold are dangerous,

but you are dangerous as well.

- We all have to a take a group vote

before anyone sacrifices their souls.

- I mean, I think the four
of us could go buck wild.

I might be worried about you two.

- Oh sh*t, I've wanted this for so long.

- What would a 32-year-old
frog want with any of that?

- Oh.
- [Players] What?

- Oh.
- We know.

- Whatever the source of the shadow is.

- But if it is in fact bad...

- Wishes are dangerous things.

- Yeah, I found that out the hard way.

- No one ever asked me
if I wanted these rules.

- Is that normal?

- What a fun thing to not know.

- That was scary.
- That was scary.

- That was really scary.
- That was legitimately,

that was tough.

(Emily growling)
- Oh, that's-

(Lou screaming)

- [Brennan] Bring shadow where I please

and ruin and terror and all the rest.

- I mean, making up stories

is what we're all about these days.

(dramatic music softens)

(spooky music)

(spooky music continues)

(spooky music continues)
