Hello one and all!
Welcome back to another thrilling
episode of Dimension 20:
Neverafter.
I am your humble dungeon
master, Brennan Lee Mulligan.
With me as always are our intrepid heroes.
Say hi, intrepid heroes.
- [All] Hi, intrepid heroes.
- Last we left off, our intrepid heroes
were in pitch black darkness
after the fires of the Baron
of Bricks were extinguished
by the breath of the Big Bad Wolf.
Yes, lo and behold, having emerged
from their multiversal adventures
in The Lines Between,
our heroes returned to the Neverafter
in the City of Chimneys,
there encountering and
swiftly proposing marriage.
Not all of them, but Sleeping
Beauty proposing marriage
to get us in the door to-
- How romantic.
- How romantic.
To get us into the the house
of the third little pig,
aka Peter the Baron of Bricks,
who seemed to have amassed a great fortune
with all of the industry of
this brick City of Chimneys,
and from whence did this power come
and from whence did this wealth
and its ability to
detect magic and animate
these sort of pig soldiers come?
Boiling the god of death
in a massive cauldron.
The Big Bad Wolf being rent asunder
from across all various
versions of his story
in a dope battle set.
We got a role play episode
and a battle episode last episode.
- That was a crazy...
That was a beefy boy.
- [Brennan] That was a beefy
boy. That was a chonker.
- That was a beefy stew.
- Exactly.
- Ooh. Yummy.
Hungry Man stew.
(Ally laughs)
- Some incredible tactics.
Knocking the nails out of the wall,
spilling the stock to unlight the fires,
getting on the wheel to move the spoon,
and hurling the battlemech
of the Baron of Bricks
into the stew itself.
- So strong.
- So strong.
Our intrepid heroes now await in the dark.
As we return, all of you hear
the breath of the Big Bad Wolf
As we return, all of you hear
the breath of the Big Bad Wolf
in this space with you.
The sudden extinguishing of the fire
has filled this place with smoke
and the steam of the suddenly
no longer boiling cauldron.
and the steam of the suddenly
no longer boiling cauldron.
(Brennan as the Wolf, heavily breathing)
Massive breaths of a
monster that you all saw
was as large as a house.
What, if anything, do
you do in this moment,
feeling the presence of this
monster in the space with you?
- [Ally] Can the two of us reach out
at the same time and touch?
I'd love to cast like a
third level Heal Wounds.
- Yeah, I think,
- Cure Wounds.
- I think that, can we like,
can we sort of like
swirl my wolf pheromones?
- Yeah. Yeah.
You make it like less
scary but I'm in there
just to add a little healing.
- Yeah.
- So what I'm gonna say here is that
this is two people helping
on an Animal Handling check.
I'll let either of you make the roll,
but you'll do it with advantage.
- I have a plus zero.
- But do you have Bardics?
- Oh yeah.
- I do still have a Bardic. But yours--
- I have a plus four.
- Plus four.
- Flat plus four.
- I think the odds are the same.
- Okay, go ahead and give me
Animal Handling with advantage.
- Okay.
Wait, I feel like you should do it.
You're much more like in the spirit.
I'm an old g*y man, just like chilling.
- I'm an old g*y man. I
can't be touching wolves.
- I'm not just like trying
to touch a dirty wolf.
(Everyone laughing)
- Okay, if you want me to do it, then...
- That wouldn't be true to my character.
- Ooh, this wolf is
covered in soup and blood.
- I took my shirt off earlier
so it wouldn't get dirty,
also to show you all my abs, but like--
- At your age, honestly
incredible definition.
- Yeah. Thank you.
- All the pushups that he does.
- He's doing some HGH as well.
- He's juicing. He's juicing.
- So, and actually this, it is 0.5% higher
on rolling a D8.
So go ahead, roll with advantage.
(a die hitting the table)
- Oh baby.
17. I might just go ahead
and use that Bardic.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- [Emily] What is your Bardic?
- D8.
- It only lasts
for like an hour anyway.
(a die hitting the table)
- Dirty 20.
- Mother Goose.
You go to like touch
this thing and heal it
and as the light begins
to fill your fingers
you see that you have
miscalculated where the wolf was,
you see that you have
miscalculated where the wolf was,
thinking you were going
for like a leg or something
a little bit more calm,
you alight and are not expecting
something to reflect back at you,
and there is a reflection
from the glistening fangs
about this close to your face.
- Mother Goose. It's just like me.
There's nothing to be afraid of.
- I know, honey.
- This is what made this
change in me, right?
- I know and I love the changes
that you're going through.
I think they're really beautiful for you.
It's just--
- Why did you say for you?
(Brennan laughs)
- I think they're so great for you.
- You could have ended on beautiful.
- That was so beautiful and
amazing for someone like you.
(Players laughing)
Are we just reaching out
and touching the fang?
- Up to you. You're reaching out.
So you have a dirty 20 here.
I think you've--
- I think I wanna go for the nose
'cause we nuzzled noses earlier.
- Yeah, so you reach up, and
the fangs are right here.
So the nose is like up here.
So you reach up, you
touch a hand on the nose,
and you feel, and the breath is enough
to like rustle your clothes
and you feel just like hot, moist air
coming out of this wolf's nose.
As it does, and everyone
feels it in your sternum,
like your solar plexus, just
the rumbling of the voice.
The Wolf says,
Not lightly do I let anyone
place a spell upon me.
Not lightly do I let anyone
place a spell upon me.
- You once fed me, so we
wanna do that for you.
- You once fed me, so we
wanna do that for you.
- On that dirty 20, you
see the Wolf regards you,
and you see a glimmer from that held spell
of light in its eyes,
you know, a good 15 feet away
from the front of its mouth
as it looks at you and goes.
(tense music)
- Do you recognize me?
It's Ylfa Snorgelsson.
(Siobhan laughs)
We hung out in a cabin for like a week
until I starved and
then went into a frenzy
and split your skull in half
and then ate your raw body
but you were into it.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- Should I go?
(Emily and Ally laugh)
- It's not like that.
- Yeah, totally. Totally.
- It wasn't, it was much
more of like a communion
with a divine being.
- Beautiful for someone like you.
(Brennan heartily laughs)
- Timothy, we started
this journey together.
- I know.
- And you were so supportive,
and I feel like you're
support is wearing thin.
- Beautiful for someone like us
I guess is what I mean.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- The Big Bad Wolf.
The Big Bad Wolf goes,
If there is trust between us
and I have nothing to
fear from this spell,
would you place your hand
in my mouth for safekeeping
would you place your hand
in my mouth for safekeeping
until after the spell is cast?
- Can I ask you a couple questions first?
- Mm-hmm.
- Okay,
so I know we talked about my grandma
and you said it was her time.
- Mm-hmm.
- And I've been trying
to make peace with that,
but the thing that I can't make peace with
is that it doesn't make it hurt any less
is that it doesn't make it hurt any less
and I think every single day,
I keep thinking it's gonna
gonna hurt a little less
and it doesn't.
Is that normal?
- Yes.
- So then I've sort of
made this pact with you,
but I don't wanna do to other
people what happened to me.
I guess I understand like the romance
and the necessity really of endings,
but I just feel like
there's a lot of people
who have to keep going after
other people's endings.
(Brennan deeply sighs)
I don't know how to make sense of that.
- I don't know that you
must make sense of it.
Some things simply are,
and in time all things will end,
but if you fear that you have made a pact
with something that cannot
live within your heart,
then what comfort I can offer is this.
In no corner of the long
ages of all the worlds
that I have walked,
have I ever for one moment felt the desire
to devour everything.
- Do you sometimes devour
things that aren't people,
because like I kind of feel
like there's a part of me
that's dying,
as I become more like this wolf.
Like, maybe it's the little girl,
like the little girl is dying
and right now that feels really scary.
Is that gonna be good someday?
Are you responsible for that?
- [Brennan] In a sense,
I have been there hungry and waiting
at the end of every
story, but I am in you,
and in a sense, the part
of you that is the wolf
has already begun to devour
the you that you can only remember.
- What do you mean by that?
- [Brennan] The little Ylfa
that wandered into the forest
to look for flowers was
always going to be eaten,
by me, or perhaps even...
And here you see the Wolf kind of flickers
and looks like your grandma again
in the way that it did in
that forest between worlds.
Or perhaps by you.
What was your grandmother's name?
- Ylfa.
- [Brennan] You are named after her?
- Yeah.
- Do you not think in some way
your grandmother devoured a little girl
that used to walk through
that forest as well?
And in the reflection of the Wolf's eyes,
you see a little girl
who looks a lot like you
with a red cloak.
You recognize from an old family
portrait, your grandmother
as a little girl walking
through the forest.
- Where is she now? Do
I get to see her again?
(somber music)
(Brennan sighs)
Did she start a new story like me?
- There are old versions of our story
from long, long ago,
and in most of the stories that exist now
and in most of the stories that exist now
you and your grandmother
are happily reunited.
In this version, no,
but the battle that you
and your friends engage in
is perhaps not to save this
version of your story alone.
is perhaps not to save this
version of your story alone.
Sometimes things are too late
to be rewritten or undone,
Sometimes things are too late
to be rewritten or undone,
but there are more blank
pages ahead of us, Little Red.
- I think maybe the final
question I would have to ask is,
part of you is inside of me.
What would you do if I
were to disagree with you?
What if I saw you coming for someone
and I stood in the way?
- I am big, and I am bad.
- But so am I now.
- Then I think you might be
able to stop me, Little Red.
- So I could be your follower,
or maybe I could also just
be a thorn in your paw?
- Here the Wolf looks at Mother Goose
holding the healing spell and says,
I know the lion. I don't think
you're a thorn in my paw.
Your grandmother, your mother,
all of them make a pact with me,
in a way somehow older
and more profound even
than the gift I gave to you.
They brought life into this world.
They began a story.
There is no story you can begin
without making the promise of its ending,
and only very strange and dangerous things
try to make a story that never ends.
And here the Wolf regards
the, like, boiling stew and cauldron.
- Yeah, I definitely got that vibe.
- There are other people
doing that right now too,
aren't there?
(Brennan snarling)
- You see the Wolf
leans forward, and says,
Yes, great and many beasts of power
that wield story itself
within the confines of
the Neverafter, (sniffing)
and perhaps even some
things that move beyond it.
- Okay, well I've decided
that I will trust you,
but I am making it clear to you
that I might try to defy you
every now and again.
- She's an incredibly honest young person.
- I don't like to lie to authority figures
and you seem to be very authoritative.
- Can I tell you a secret?
- I plug my ears.
- Yes, that would be awesome.
I am starved for secrets.
I am a preteen who just wishes
I could be swapping secrets all the time.
- I hear that. Make a mental note of it.
- The Wolf moves his
massive head and you just,
it's the kind of thing where
like a thing moves in space
almost like a wrecking ball,
and even though it's moving slowly,
you can almost sense the mass moving,
moves the front of his snout
close to your ear, and goes,
I welcome your defiance, Red.
In most of my stories, I die.
I am here to be stopped.
And his eyes glow and he says,
But I am only ever stopped for a time.
That word time reverberates out.
And then he smiles a little bit and goes,
Stamina hunters, wolves, you get it?
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then I put my hand in his mouth.
Here's your collateral.
(Brennan snarls)
- And he waits for the spell.
- Timothy. Unplug your ears. We're ready.
- Oh. Okay.
Yeah.
You know, I always say I hate
pickles, but I love pickles.
You know, I always say I hate
pickles, but I love pickles.
(Emily cackles and Brennan laughs)
- No, stop.
In reference to what?
- Secrets.
- It's a secret.
She's starved for secrets.
- Okay, starved for secrets. Yeah.
- No!
- I didn't get it.
- Snow.
- That was awesome!
Timothy, how many more of those
have you been holding out on?
- Well, look, I'm a complex man.
I cast a third level
Cure Wounds on the Wolf.
- Hell yeah.
As you do, you hear this kind
of deep exhalation of breath
As you do, you hear this kind
of deep exhalation of breath
(sighs)
and the Wolf sort of flops on the ground.
Boom. You hear this thud.
And breathes a little softer.
(breathing slightly less heavily)
Time flows, and this time, a
much less thunderous voice,
Time flows, and this time, a
much less thunderous voice,
not that the Wolf was ever shouting,
but just something that's
a little bit less resonant,
a little bit softer and more
human, speaks out, and goes,
(sighs), Thank you.
- Oh, my arm is still in your mouth.
- You actually feel as
your hand is in the mouth,
as that sigh comes, he releases your hand,
and you can also feel
he releases your hand
as his mouth almost retreats
and you suddenly become
aware that a dire wolf
is next to you.
He's become sort of the size of a horse.
He's still an enormous wolf,
but he is not in this deific form anymore.
- Death, this is my friends.
- Hi.
- [Murph] Hello.
- It is very dark in here.
(Emily and Ally laugh)
- If you wish to create
light, I will not object.
- If you wish to create
light, I will not object.
- I start really laboriously
trying to start a fire.
- I use Prestidigitation to light a few.
- I use Gust to try and help it.
- Hell yeah.
- I Create Bonfire on Gerard's attempt.
- Oh, there we go.
- Oh, great job, Gerard.
- I did it.
All that time in the
ponds. Hashtag pond life.
- So now there's like a little
bit of sputtering fire light,
there's a bonfire going,
there's a little bit of
Prestidigitation light,
and you see you're still
here in the chamber.
The Big Bad Wolf, again,
is still the largest creature in the room,
but is not like dominating,
towering over you guys.
Thank you for your
healing. I appreciate it.
- So you know about the Stepmother then?
- No.
Or at least not by that name,
but now that you have said it,
I can give shape to the scent
I have detected on the wind.
- Hmm.
- She must have very powerful
magic at her disposal indeed,
if she was able to remove
her name, remove her scent,
if she was able to remove
her name, remove her scent,
(sniffs) and I think she
has been very careful
not to go into the worlds anymore
but has been acting through
intermediaries, pulling...
- (laughs) Yeah.
(Emily and Brennan laugh)
- [Ally] Pinocchio?
Well, in terms of intermediaries.
- Oh yeah.
- I was one of them. Before.
- [Murph] We don't have to tell.
- Wait, you think that she has--
- [Siobhan] You don't have
to tell Death that you were.
- Well I was, I'm not anymore.
- He's not--
- Death is chill.
He likes a little bit of defiance.
- Yeah.
- Which I like that
in an authority figure.
- Yeah. Wow, you're not even
holding the sword or anything.
You just wanted to tell the truth?
That's cool.
- Okay.
(Emily laughs)
- It's always right to tell the truth.
(Players laughing)
What was that? What was that speaking?
- [Lou] Oh, that's...
- [Murph] The sword?
- [Ally] We muffled the annoying sword.
- [Murph] Kinda likes the truth.
Like a lot.
- Just sort of likes it.
- Loves it, I would say.
- Lives for it.
- It's very into it.
And very enthusiastic.
- You see Cricket on your shoulder says,
Well jeepers, I don't think
this wolf's that big or bad.
- We gotta find some water.
(Players laughing)
- The little guy's hoarse.
- So in this space, mech
destroyed, pig eaten. But...
(Zac laughs, then Emily
and Brennan do as well)
Mech destroyed, pig eaten.
- Yeah.
- Hey, we're, you know,
racking up Ws over here.
You do see that there is the
office of Baron of Bricks
over in the corner.
- Can I actually maybe like
a History check over there
to see?
- Anyone can do any amount
of checks they want.
And you see that the Wolf sort
of is sitting here as well,
doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
You see just sort of
resting after that combat.
- You have a disguise kit, right?
- Yeah.
- Can I borrow the comb
from your disguise kit?
- Let me make sure I get my
disguise kit comb, here you go.
- I'll just kind of comb so the like--
- Carrots and peas out of...
(Emily laughs in affirmation)
Gotcha, gotcha.
- What are you gonna do with the comb?
- Oh, I'm gonna use it on
the partially burned wolf.
- Okay.
(Players laugh)
- You go and start.
- Just keep it. It's for you.
- Do you have a wig in
there that I could cut up
into little pieces?
- Let's see, disguise kit.
Little disguise kit wig.
Cool.
- Okay.
- You go over to the Big Bad Wolf.
You do a little comb,
and of course he's been
boiling for a long time,
so just a big clump of hair comes out.
He's like,
Does that look better now?
- Uhhh, I put the wig on. Yeah.
- Sort of a blonde wig.
- A blonde wig on his shoulder.
- With a little bit of ombré.
- So Puss in Boots has
like a long blonde wig.
- You never know.
- You just never know when you're gonna
have to hoodwink somebody.
- It's come in handy more than once.
(Brennan laughs)
I would like to investigate this office.
If anyone can help me, I've like a +3.
- [Murph] I'll help. Yeah, I'll help.
- Yeah. So I can...
That is a 17.
- On Investigation or on?
- I was doing Investigation.
- I'll do Investigation also.
- Hell yeah, Investigation.
We want a History.
- I got a six.
- Six.
- Can I actually give you a Help action?
By like, sniffing?
- Oh my god. I would love for you to.
- 27 Investigation.
- [Brennan] Wow.
- That's better. That's a 19.
- Let's go with the rest...
What are you all looking...
So, Pib, what are you
looking for in particular?
- Probably wanna find info
on those kings, right?
- Yeah.
- See what's going on?
- I don't know what that is at all
and I'm just curious about.
- Yeah, what did you got on your History?
- 19.
- 19.
- Basically, what's the
scheme he's running?
- What's the scheme the
Baron of Bricks is running?
- Yeah.
- On a 17 Investigation,
you run down the third little pig's plans,
which were basically
that he had found a way
to start destroying the Big Bad Wolf,
removing him from all these
versions of his story,
and the goal was to
eventually like remove death,
and the designs of the pig were like,
in a never ending w*r in
which soldiers could not die
and therefore it would just be like
eternal torment and struggle forever,
and eventual like oppression and conquest.
- And he would be selling
the weapons for that?
- He would be selling
the weapons for that,
that people could like be
chopped up, disemboweled, maimed
and just be like there in a
state of being unable to die.
and just be like there in a
state of being unable to die.
- Great.
- I'm glad you are eaten.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- [Brennan] You also see
that a lot of correspondence
between the Baron of Bricks
and the various kings,
and I think with that 19 History check,
the five kings in the council
that you are able to find
that have joined the Council of Kings,
the one that has by far
the most correspondence
is the Mer-King.
- Oh, underwater?
- Underwater. The Mer-King.
The Mer-King has a lot of correspondence
and appears to be furious
and have an enormous army
and waging this enormous w*r,
and you see a lot of
correspondence from the Mer-King
being like, "The time is now,
I must conquer as much of the
land and coasts as I can."
There appears to be some sort
of almost like panic in that,
but the Mer-King also seems.
- Maybe because his
daughter is disappeared.
- On that 19 History,
you see that there is
some correspondence about,
"My daughter has been taken to the land
and must be returned to me."
- Princess by the Sea.
- Mm-hmm.
- The other kings
involved in that council.
The Tsar of Snowhold, the King of Apogee,
which is, I think on a 19 History
you would know, Rosamund, that
Apogee was a kingdom with a,
this king was always a real prick.
Someone in his capitol was just proud
of how beautiful their daughter was,
and he was like, Beautiful, huh?
Well, spin straw into f*cking gold,
and if you can't, I'll k*ll you.
But she figured it out
somehow, so that's cool.
And then the last two that
are kind of interesting,
one of them is a big deal,
but is like far away on the
other side of the Neverafter
who's joined the Council of
Kings, the Naked Emperor.
And then the last one is the Mouse King.
- Cute.
- One sounds a little more
delicious than the other.
- The Naked Emperor, right?
- Yes.
(players laugh)
- Oh, and I think you
see something here, Pib,
about a refusal from the
King of Marienne, from Tomas,
about a refusal from the
King of Marienne, from Tomas,
is here in this place to
join the Council of Kings,
and you see correspondence
from the Baron of Bricks
about how to basically work
with some of the forces in Snowhold
to send giants to destroy
the Kingdom of Marienne,
because of his refusal to
join this Council of Kings.
- Wait, so the Baron of Bricks
then sent the giants to?
- It looks like there were
forces in Snowhold that sent--
- Snowhold sent them.
- Yeah.
Snowhold is the one that invaded my --
- Greenleigh. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Okay.
- And they sent the giants.
The giants aren't a part of Snowhold,
as far as I understand, right?
They just are working with them?
- Yeah. Working with them.
It seems like these giants were a force
that someone in Snowhold
was able to command,
like a nation of giants would be...
these giants were like as tall
as like trees and mountains.
They're so enormous that it's like
essentially it only took a
couple to overthrow Marienne.
- [Siobhan] Wild.
- That's...
- [Murph] Well.
- And again, you see a lot of it is
the Baron assuring these
various kings like,
my liege lords, and you
see in a lot of his stuff,
it's like, they are
treating the Baron of Bricks
like their servant, but
you see very clearly
the Baron of Bricks
was moving the pieces
around the board, right.
You see that the Mer-King's daughter
is a huge concern to him.
There's another concern about
a lot of renegade princesses
that people are worried about.
- (quitely) Yeah!
(Emily chuckles)
The baron refers at one
point to having a hunter
at his disposal.
- Oh.
- That's not good.
- A hunter not a woodsman?
- A hunter and not a woodsman.
- It could be Snow.
- Snow White. Yeah.
- You see something from the
panicked Naked Emperor saying,
- You see something from the
panicked Naked Emperor saying,
"My forces, which were
to join with Snowhold
and help restore order and
decency to the Neverafter
and help restore order and
decency to the Neverafter
have been utterly decimated
and forced to retreat.
We believe one of the renegade
princesses, Snow White,
has raised an army of the dead
and marched to w*r against my forces.
- That's so sick.
- Sweet.
- [Siobhan] That's so cool.
- Well, we don't like
Snowhold, so that seems good.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- Sick.
- Wow.
- Sick. Awesome.
- Pretty sick.
- Wait, the Naked Emperor
is not from Snowhold though, right?
- No, but he was working with Snowhold.
- Mother Goose, on that
27, you find two things.
In a hidden compartment in the desk.
- Nice.
- You find missives
between the Baron of Bricks
and a number of fairies.
- (gasps)
- Oh.
- And what you immediately
sort of see gleaning through,
like just looking at the text,
is that the fairies and the Baron
are having open conversations
about restoring the
destiny of the Neverafter
about the wrongness of
the Times of Shadow,
about the presence of
The Gander in these lands
and how magic is being
corrupted and ruined.
They also make some reference
to a force of corruption
and they uppercase the C in it, of like,
almost like there's some
kind of properness to it
of like it's a thing that's out there
related to The Gander in some way,
and the last thing you see though
is that it looks like
the fairies and the Baron
have some kind of working
relationship as it's like,
"Yes, we all agree that canon
must be restored," da da da.
But then you immediately
also see that the fairies,
kind of inadvertently,
in these little like birch bark scrolls
and parchment made of leaves,
sewn together in golden ink,
make reference to like,
"How goes your search
for the Big Bad Wolf?"
And you can see--
- So they didn't know.
- They didn't know,
and it seems that you don't have proof yet
that the fairies have not
been honest about their goal
to like restore canon, right.
- They might just simply--
- Believe.
- Actually believe that and be after that.
- Actually believe that and be
after that, whereas the Baron,
you suddenly realize that
everything the Baron is saying
in response to them is horseshit,
where he's like,
"Yeah, we gotta get stuff back to canon,"
and I will be boiling this wolf to remove
all the versions of it.
Like, that whatever order
the Baron was seeking
alongside the Council of Kings
appears to be a very pointed,
knowledgeable power grab,
appears to be a very pointed,
knowledgeable power grab,
and very much about like,
"Nope, I have multiversal knowledge.
These kings wanna restore
their kingdoms and their power.
That f*cking works for me."
And you sort of working in
tandem with these fairies
where there's places to work,
and then not being fully
honest about what was going on.
- Okay.
- Right.
- Because I think even
when we talked to the Fairy
with the Turquoise Hair, when
we ask her hard questions,
she doesn't lie.
She just doesn't tell us anything.
- Yeah.
- Mm-hmm.
- So I think she literally like can't lie.
- Oh.
- Maybe--
- Maybe.
- She's never lied.
- She's a big fan of not lying.
- Yeah, she's a big fan of not lying.
I think she's very much about
like the rule of not lying,
but the spirit of it is fine with it.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- It's like--
- Very technical.
- Yes. Very semantic.
- That's the truth.
Listen, as long as you
don't break the rule,
then you're doing something good.
- Well...
- I completely disagree.
- You believe that?
- Well what's the rule?
- Well, the rule, you make
the rule so that you're good,
and the rule... oh wait, no...
Oh I'm doing it again. I'm sorry.
- Pib puts you in a drawer.
- I'm sorry, I'm doing it
again. This is old habits.
- You just wanna help. I get it.
- I just wanna help.
It's just so nice when
everything's just, you know,
you don't have to think about
what would actually produce a good end.
You just have a series of
imperatives that you follow.
Basic deontology.
- Ooo, I like that.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- Hands off. He's mine.
- Hands off.
- In those missives between
the Baron and the fairies,
is there the sense that
even in communicating with the fairies,
he had multiversal knowledge,
or that the fairies
in some way gave him
multiversal knowledge?
- The fact that it was
a concealed compartment
within the drawer makes you think
that multiversal knowledge
is a thing that the Baron had
that maybe the Kings didn't,
and so he was keeping his
correspondences with the fairies
a little bit more like,
"Hey, we know that there's a multiverse,
we know that there's different
editions of these stories."
- Yes.
- Was it like the stew that was giving him
the sort of multiversal knowledge?
- [Brennan] Yeah.
- Okay.
- The Wolf being this like deific figure
is how he got the magic
to get that awareness.
- [Zac] I'm gonna take all these.
- Letters?
- You take all these letters
and the last thing I'll say on a 27.
- A drawer full of little Snickers bars.
- Oh my god.
- Oh yeah, you do. There's a
little thing of Jordan almonds.
- Ooo!
(Brennan laughs)
- A little desk snack.
- Are there any pickles?
- I don't know. You don't
want see me on sugar.
- You love pickles don't you?
- No, I hate them.
- Oh!
- Last two little juicy things.
You see that in the Snowhold thing,
there is a warning from the
Tsar of Snowhold saying,
"We must be careful in seeking the aid
of the giants in this matter.
Not only for asking
favors of the Snow Queen
is not something I can do lightly,
and we must remember how important it is
that word that we have worked with them
not get back to the Giant k*ller."
- Giant k*ller.
- And you look at the Giant k*ller
and have the memory of
talking to The Goose,
the Golden Goose, about your son,
and the fact that in this world
Jack is not your son anymore,
but you have this sudden sort of flash
of looking at Giant k*ller like that.
- Would I know about that?
- Well you have your book with you.
- You could do your lore legend.
- Yeah, you could do
your Legend Lore. Yeah.
- I do it. Yeah. Okay. It's my son.
- You start looking at that
and you see the face of your son.
You see your son climbing a bean stalk,
who in this world is not your
son, but who you recognize.
You see a version of your son
that didn't grow up with
you and Henry, and you see--
- He's not as well dressed?
- He's not.
- He looks like sh*t?
- Looks like sh*t.
Well, what you do see him do
is you read the story of
"Jack and the Beanstalk"
and basically see the story of a young man
who breaks into a home and
then kills the homeowner
to steal a bunch of his stuff.
- (quietly) Sounds like Jack.
(Brennan laughs)
Sounds like my sweet perfect boy Jack.
Perfect boy, who doesn't make a mistake.
- Timothy, if we are thinking of, I mean,
it would seem as though
we're looking for allies against Snowhold,
and it seems like this
Giant k*ller could be,
would it be f*cked up or would
it make you happy to see him?
- I will...
It will be really hard to see him
and not have him recognize me,
but I definitely want to
see him in this world.
- Is there a map in this desk somewhere?
Can we tell where we are?
- Yes.
- Are we close to the coast?
Are we close to Snowhold?
- Yes, you are pretty close
to Marienne and Amanti right now.
Some of those fallen kingdoms,
The Lullaby Lands to the south of you.
To the west of you is
those like three kingdoms
of Reverie, Tapestry and Elegy,
and then Apogee, Shoeberg
sort of closer there.
Northwest is Naked Emperor,
and then to the northeast is Snowhold.
- So it was Snowhold was
working with the giants
and didn't want the Giant k*ller to know?
- Like, that would be
bad politically for them
if the Giant k*ller was like,
"You've been working with
giants," kind of thing.
- Got it.
- I think we have a bunch of things to do,
but I'm highly motivated
to go after Snowhold.
- Me too.
- Yes.
- I mean, I think Snow
White is also near Snowhold.
So--
- Yeah.
- And I know I've given so
many treasures from this desk.
The last, last, last thing
on a 27, this was my,
I had the clues separated
into DC 15, 20 and 25,
and there was only one over a 25.
- Oh wow.
- There is some
correspondence about the Baron
actually trying to help the
Mer-King find his daughter.
The Mer-King is like
really rattling the cage,
being like, "I will leave this council.
I will not aid in the w*r effort
unless my daughter is found."
And the Baron says,
"We have paid a tidy
fortune to a nearby witch
in order to scry on
where your daughter is.
The way the scrying spell
works is we saw a lot of ocean,
and, you know, we saw her,
we were able to find her.
She was in an area,
the witch scried on her
several times, and..."
You see actually it refers
here as a hedge witch,
so it doesn't sound like a big
major witch was doing this.
- Oh, okay.
- Yeah, it sounds like
sort of a paid, you know...
- Freelance.
- Freelance, yeah.
You see that the Baron writes and says,
"Scrying, the only clue we could gather
that perhaps your advisors
can piece together."
That's a little bit pointed, like,
"Hey, we got you
information. Figure it out."
"She was seen outside of a
wooden structure by the sea,
"She was seen outside of a
wooden structure by the sea,
clearly in harbor or perhaps
in some sort of dock,
and the writing on the signage said,
'Slappy's Bubblegum and Whiskey.'"
- Okay, well this is perfect,
'cause we have a boat,
we have a captain.
- We're all gonna ride on this boat.
- Well we can fit one preteen.
- This matchstick boat.
- Pinocchio.
- Rude.
Yeah?
- You've been to Slappy's
Bubblegum and Whiskey.
- Is it on Toy Island?
- It's on Toy Island.
- Oh.
- Oh.
- We do know a captain though,
because we could write to Scheherazade.
- Yeah.
- You know,
- Maybe Sinbad can help.
- I could definitely do it,
but it might be better to have someone
with a more sizable boat.
- Okay. But you have been captain before?
- I have been the captain
before and I have the skillset.
- Yeah.
- Of course, you know.
- I believe it.
- Uh-huh.
- Me, yes, his matchstick boat.
- I mean, I'll be honest,
I'm definitely outgrowing it,
but I could go absolutely
nuts on a Toy Island.
- It's a f*cking ball.
- I will love to ball out on Toy Island.
- Honestly, that sounds
really fun to me too.
- I know I'm out here telling the truth.
- I know I'm an old 18 year old, but...
- It's f*cking sick.
It's boys and girls
from like around 8 to 14
just living their best life
and eventually turning into
donkeys, but before that--
- What?
- Actually, that's really normal for me.
- Well honestly, you
probably can't get sick.
You're already turning into an animal.
You're already turning into an animal,
you already are an animal..
I mean, I think the four
of us could go buck wild.
I might be worried about you two.
- I'm a 30-something year old frog. Yeah.
- I mean--
- But I do
make amazing crumpets and lemon curds,
so maybe I can whip up some--
- You'll be popular.
- I might just walk to Snowhold by myself.
- No, come on, man.
- Okay, so we have Snow White
and we have the mermaid
of the two princesses,
and we're looking for
Cinderella, and we have you.
- If we find the Princess by
the Sea on the Toy Island,
perhaps she can lead us
to the other princesses.
- Right.
- And then we can
get involved in this Snowhold business.
- Yes.
- And then the King of Apogee
sounds to me, Siobhan,
like Rumpelstiltskin,
- Yes.
- So I don't know if that's
a princess or a queen,
if she ends up--
- Where was the Giant k*ller?
- That, actually, you don't
find any correspondence
from the Giant k*ller,
and you don't see on the map
any land you would associate.
Like your Jack from your previous life
was from the Lullaby
Lands, but this one is,
it's more confusing, yeah.
- Up there somewhere, maybe?
- If we ever see just a big stalk.
- It's a really, really big stalk.
Or a real shiny looking bean.
- Yeah.
- This is, I found them the magic bean.
- Oh my god!
- What, we need to plant these.
- Oh, that's what they do.
- They're seeds.
- I mean, I'm definitely into
going to this Toy Island.
Just strategically, I mean.
- Don't tempt me with a good time.
- I'm into it as well. I was
tasked to find this girl.
- I could go either way.
- I'm fine with the whiskey part.
I don't want to have bubble gum with it.
- Have you had the two of them together?
- Ew.
- Have you had them?
- The new D20 challenge.
Send us a video of you chewing bubble gum
and take a shot of whiskey.
- You put one big old wad of
Hubba Bubba in your mouth,
right?
- The entire roll of Hubba Bubba.
- Then you get yourself
like a nice aged Macallan.
(Siobhan and Emily crack up)
- And you're like 10 years old?
- You spit the gum into the Macallan.
- No.
- And sh**t it.
Oh man. It's a good f*cking time.
- [Zac & Murph] Do you swallow the gum?
- Of course you do.
That's living.
- You children. No.
- I'd love to do this,
- It's Toy Island.
- but maybe with a ginger ale.
I'll start with a ginger ale.
Something nice and fizzy
to take a sh**ter of.
- Yeah, you'll work your way up. Mhmm.
- We'll just drink the
whiskey. How about that?
- I'm, yes.
- I'll be honest.
I'm into the Toy Island,
but I will say that
the vengeance I seek is at Snowhold.
- Mm-hmm.
- Yeah, that's true.
- And vengeance is important.
- That's definitely more
important than playing with toys.
- But I don't know what
makes sense as far as--
- I feel like the lead we have in Snowhold
is just that they don't
want the Giant k*ller
to find out that they're
working with the giants.
We know that they're doing some
fighting against Snow White,
right, but we don't know
where to find Snow White.
- And it sounds like it might be scary
to show up to Snow White's
undead army and be like,
"Hi, we're on your side."
- Or where they're camped out.
- I think maybe we we
build up some allies.
- That's what I'm saying.
If we find the Mer-Princess.
- We know a direct boat that
the other princess is on,
that sounds like it's
pretty loudly marked.
- Believe me, no one wants to
go to Toy Island less than me.
(Players laugh)
- [Lou] Gerard, you're
gonna have a great time.
- And these toys, there's not like a ball
with sort of a feathery tail
on it or anything like that.
- Oh, we can figure something out.
- The Wolf, the Big Bad
Wolf looks over and says--
- Maybe a cardboard box.
- He says, You have saved my life.
Snowhold is a land I know well.
You wish to go there to search for allies?
- Y- Yes. Yeah.
Pib here has a pretty
significant score to settle.
- You seek revenge?
- I do. I feel like...
Tomas was a good king,
and he played by the rules
and he paid for it,
and that just sounds,
it's just unfair.
- Wolf narrows his eyes, looks at you,
and you see his eyes dart down
to the daggers at your hip.
- Are these yours?
- No longer.
I want not for teeth.
- Is your name Isengrim?
- In some places, yes.
You say that this King of
Marienne was a good man,
and that he played by the rules,
but something tells me that
you do not play by the rules.
- I think no one ever asked
me if I wanted these rules.
- I think no one ever asked
me if I wanted these rules.
- The Wolf looks,
and looks at your other
friends standing here,
and you see makes almost a mental note,
like the Wolf is interested
in you for some reason
and then turns and says,
The lands of Snowhold
are known well to me.
If you wish to journey there,
I would be more than glad to take you.
You are all awakened as to
the nature of the Neverafter
in these times of shadow, and indeed,
unless I'm much mistaken,
something about the smell of your magic
lets me know that there is a beast like me
that walks in your
shadow, or perhaps flies.
- Yes, The Gander.
I still actually get
another wish from him.
- Mm. Wishes are dangerous things.
- Yeah, I found that out the hard way.
Two-thirds of the way in.
- Not much room for error left.
I do hate things that come in threes.
(Ally chuckles)
You see--
- Was that another secret?
- No.
- All said, it's a pretty good pig joke.
- I mean that was pretty -- ah, f*ck.
- Pay attention.
- Just in case we die and
like live this story again.
- Yeah.
- Do you have
any wolf material?
- You're gonna hate
comedy if you hate three.
- Do I have any wolf material?
Well I--
- You do. You do.
- No, I don't.
- I think you do.
- [Murph] Wolf material?
- Oh! That's right.

- I did have one joke.
- Not his. It's not his best.
- It's not my best and I--
- It's okay.
- I was thinking--
- I'm sure I'll love it. Let me hear it.
- Oh man.

something about a sex--
- Set me up in front of a god.

- No, she has not.

doing something that we disagree with?
- In truth, Ylfa, I cannot say.

captured, turned into beasts.

get a Bardic Inspiration.
It's a D8 now.
- Oh wow.
- Rosamund, is your dad here?
- No. No, I don't think so.
I- I think that that was,
he was just talking about
that I'd met my dad and I got excited.
- You see within the
correspondence of the desk,
the fact that the Kingdom of Reverie
is choked by briars and unassailable.
Like, you remember waking up again
with briars in this world,
and like moving through
them and having to get out.
So you can't tell if this world was worse
than the last one you came from.
Your father is either asleep or dead.
- [Zac] I see.
- Great.
- Sorry.
- What a fun thing to not know.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- Do we know what we're
gonna ask of the Baba Yaga?
- Hmm.
- Just to find the...
- I guess we never got to talk about it
with the Fairy with Turquoise Hair
of what they are fighting,
because Pib said the
thing about finding out
what they're fighting
against or trying to do
to recreate canon, but then
using it for our own goals,
I guess we never really got
a sense of what that core--
- Yeah.
- Thing is.
- She just really wanted
to go after the book.
- What they're fighting against,
or whatever the source of the shadow is.
- It'd be, yeah, it'd be nice to know
the source of the shadow
and if it is in fact bad--
- [Lou] Mm-hmm.
- Or if it's just change.
- You remember also in
your earlier conversation
with Cinderella that she
had said that the fairies
were entreating the
witches to join their cause
and that that had not manifested yet
and that Cinderella was like,
"We've also been talking to
some witches," but it's like,
I believe I'm not
incorrect in saying this,
but I think Cinderella was like,
"They have remained neutral,
but we fear that if if they
break one way or the other,
they will likely break
towards the fairies."
- Sure. And they, now that's a lone wolf.
- Exactly. They're operating
sort of on their own.
- Yes. They're on their own.
They're not making decisions together
as a collective of witches.
- Yes. Correct.
- They're off in their little cottages.
- Can I look at my shadow
and try to commune with The Gander?
- I think you can. Yeah, absolutely.
- I would love to.
- Do you announce that to your companions?
Are you going to just
try to do that right now?
Like, in what manner do you--
- No, I guess it's more
involved than I thought.
I thought maybe I could
like look down to my shadow.
- You probably can.
I just am wondering if you're trying
to keep that hidden from your friends?
- No, no, no, no.
I guess just in the name
of trying to figure out
all the major players here.
So far everything has
led back to the Baba Yaga
and I'm curious if The Gander
also has power from her also.
- Or maybe that's who's
hurting The Gander?
- Oh yeah.
- [Emily] Yeah.
- Mm. Mm.
- I was gonna say that maybe
we could ask the Baba Yaga
why The Gander's hurting, but if it's--
- I mean The Gander is a part of me.
- Do you have another Legend Lore?
Do you have another spell slot?
- Yeah, I definitely.
- You could do it on The
Gander maybe and see if.
- Yeah.
- Did you even use it?
- Oh yeah.
- You were using it on to
get to get Jack's story.
You were using it to get the
story of Jack and the Beanstalk
and understand that.
- Yeah,
- So I think it's just that Legend Lore is
just once per day, but--
- Oh, got it.
- I think if you want to
just try to commune with it
or like summon it up in your shadow,
I think you can do that.
It is haunting you.
You could almost certainly like
go like you were about
to make another wish
and you know it would show up.
- Yeah, yeah, and well, I think also,
maybe it doesn't seem to really
be talking to me too much,
so maybe I can just like
mention the Baba Yaga
and roll an Insight check and see
- Yeah, gimme an Insight check roll.
- if it will talk to me?
- Mm-hmm.
(die clatters in dice tray)
- Okay. That is 16.
- Your shadow grows a little bit longer,
and your friends, you all see
under like the sort of
sputtering torch light
shadow grows longer, neck elongates
and very soon Mother Goose's shadow
is no longer the shadow of a human man
but rather a winged
serpentine necked shape,
but rather a winged
serpentine necked shape,
and a voice hisses out over
a spiked tongue, going,
Just about ready, Tim?
- Yeah, it seems like
there's a lot going on
and I just dunno what I'm going to do.
We're thinking about
reaching out to someone
We're thinking about
reaching out to someone
named the Baba Yaga.
- On a 16 Insight, the
shadow grows very still.
Now why would you want to go and do
something like that, Tim?
- She seems like a major player.
So many people are
happily working with her.
So many people are
happily working with her.
She just seems really great.
- Oh sure. And her favors
come cheap, Mother Goose.
- Yeah, I mean you should know, right?
(tense music)
(Brennan grunts, exasperatedly)
Is that why you've been able
to stay here for so long?
- I'm staying here 'cause
I want to stay here.
- Yeah, but did someone give you the power
to be able to stay past your welcome?
Wouldn't the Golden Goose
have taken over by now?
- (angrily and echoing)
Don't say that name.
At this point, you see the Big Bad Wolf
kind of sniff the air,
and the Wolf's looking
over at you kind of seeing
that Mother Goose has
a profound connection
to like a great beast as well.
The Wolf is sort of
hanging back for a moment,
but there's a weird kind of
almost like a smirking regard
as like the Wolf is like, you know,
basically an attitude
like, "This f*cking guy."
- [Ally] Yeah.
- Yeah.
- But the Wolf sniffed something
and you get a read of the Wolf being
kind of aware of something in this moment,
but he remains silent to 'cause he knows
that this is like a dangerous interaction.
- [Ally] Mm-hmm.
- Okay. I'll ask him later.
- I message to the Wolf,
I'd never f*cking heal this Gander.
I'd never f*cking touch
the nose of this freak.
I'd never f*cking touch
the nose of this freak.
(Ally and Emily laugh)
- You see The Gander goes,
I fly where I want, and I
bring shadow where I please
I fly where I want, and I
bring shadow where I please
and ruin and terror and all the rest.
I turned your boy's body
into a pile of bones,
I turned your boy's body
into a pile of bones,
and I'll do the same whether
he's your boy in this world
or not, and I'll do the same to you.
I think it's funny to take
your cute little lullabies
and bring them all to wrath and ruin.
- You know what?
The feeling I'm getting right now
is when there's like something
that you think is so scary
but then something behind
it is so much more scary
and now it looks tiny.
- Mm-hmm.
- And I kind of have that
view of The Gander now.
Okay, yeah, you're able
to do all these things
but it's very clear that he
owes something to the Baba Yaga
and the Baba Yaga like gave him this power
that he's bragging about?
- It's, there's something here.
On a 16, I think you're like,
there's gotta be something here, right?
- I lean over to Gerard, I'm like,
So if the Wolf is Death,
what the f*ck is The Goose?
- That's what I was
gonna ask the Wolf after.
But--
- Yeah. Frustration.
- Are you still talking to The Gander?
- (makes a noise of
disgust) Are we done here?
(Ally laughs)
- Babe, you called me.
- I know, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. Click.
- The Gander, the shadow vanishes
as you do not make a wish here.
- Death, what did you
smell differently in him?
Because we know something's
different about him, right?
Or is that the same Gander
you've always known?
- The Neverafter...
There have always been horrors
within the bounds of the Neverafter,
moments of trial and sadness,
torment, death, mayhem,
all of these.
The Gander's presence as a force
moving upon not only this world
but moving upon the
whole of the Neverafter
is very concerning.
I wondered only.
Witches and fairies will
know more of this than I do,
but there are things I
can smell on the wind.
I am Death and I am the Big Bad Wolf,
and within the Neverafter,
those things are the same.
Outside of the Neverafter,
I am still Death,
Outside of the Neverafter,
I am still Death,
but I may not be the Big Bad
Wolf in those other realms.
- Really?
- No. Death is larger, and --
- How will I know you in
those other realms then?
- How will you know yourself?
Who knows who we become in those places?
But what I will say
is that The Gander and
The Goose are like me.
They wield great forces here.
But the god of a thing,
the bearer of a thing,
the herald of a thing,
is not the thing itself.
Right now, there are many that are dying,
and I am with them,
but not in the way that
I am here in this room
with you right now,
and The Gander and The Goose are the same,
though the force of The
Gander's corruption and horror
covers now the realms of the Neverafter.
The Gander appears to you in
person, collected, manifested,
The Gander appears to you in
person, collected, manifested,
made to be interacted with,
and perhaps controlled
by forces of great magic.
What I mean to say is this.
Something I had believed to
be true about The Gander,
it was said to me once
that The Goose and Gander
cannot fly the same sky at the same time.
And I believe that to be true,
but I had always taken that
to mean that they could never coexist,
they could never be in
the same realm at once.
When you mentioned The Goose's name
and The Gander reacted that
way, I took a deep smell.
I think I was mistaken.
I think The Goose is in this
world as well, somewhere.
I think The Goose is in this
world as well, somewhere.
- Do you think The Goose is in danger?
- I cannot say.
Its presence is faint. Much disguised.
This realm is choked with rain and smog
and ash and ruin, but I mean only to say
that The Goose and The Gander
cannot fly the same skies.
Perhaps that was less
poetic than I imagined.
Perhaps that is more literal, in fact.
- So if we found The Goose then The Gander
couldn't interact with us?
- I do not know if it
would be that simple,
but perhaps there would be
some chance at conflict.
- Are they the same person?
- It's possible. Strange things.
- If I hear that two people
are never in the same room at once,
it makes me think that
maybe it's the same person
dressing up as--
- Hannah Montana.
- Is The Gander Hannah Montana or?
- You see, questions that pointed,
it will take someone with
more secrets than I to answer,
but I can tell you what
I smell on the wind.
- Hmm.
- So is there a path forward
that doesn't cross with the Baba Yaga?
- There are many paths
forward from this place.
You now hold your own books.
- Who is still holding their
book? Yours is within you.
- Yes.
- I have mine.
- I've got mine.
- I have mine.
- Chose not to look in mine.
- So the Wolf knows the route to Snowhold.
- And specifically it would seem to me,
a budding preteen, that we have two ways,
either an island full of boys, girls,
toys, bubble gum, and whiskey,
or a witch that's gonna
demand a personal sacrifice
or a witch that's gonna
demand a personal sacrifice
for information. (laughs)
- You know, when you put it like that...
- Personally, I prefer the latter.
- Do you? (laughs)
- Interesting, interesting.
- Bubble gum, boys, and
what? Girls and toys?
- I thought the sacrifice was the latter.
- The sacrifice was the second one, yeah.
- That's what I said.
- That's what you want? Okay.
- Girls and boys, bubble gum and toys,
and a whole lotta whiskey.
- What would a 32 year old
frog want with any of that?
- [Ally] Boys, toys,
bubble gum and whiskey?
- [Emily] Wait, you
said before you were 30?
- [Murph] I'm as old as I --
- [Zac] 30-ish.
- Well, in frog years.
I mean, yeah, we could go either way.
I honestly wouldn't mind
a little bit more space
before we went back to Toy Island,
'cause honestly, when we get there,
I'm gonna be right back
up to my old tricks.
- I mean, you guys know that
as soon as we saw the Baba Yaga
in that vision, I
clocked her and was like,
how do I meet her, so?
- Let's also not like
sell our souls instantly.
- Yeah.
- We won't.
- Right, yeah.
Remind me that right before we go.
- Right, yes.
Everyone, we all have to take a group vote
before anyone sacrifices their souls.
- I already am about to die
from The Gander on my last wish.
You know? I just--
- That's what it is.
- I just die when I make my third wish.
- Okay, I was going to ask you that.
That's what it is?
- That's why my son turned into bones.
I watched him make his last wish
and then he just crumbled into bones,
and The Goose honked, but it
was a little laugh really.
It was a guffaw laugh.
- But Death, what do you think of this?
This is someone else making a pact
without you having any say in it.
This is someone else wielding your power.
- It is theirs to wield.
I am not here to prevent creatures
from seeking the end of another story.
- Can I intercede though?
- You always may.
- [Murph] All right.
- All right, we're gonna
have to k*ll The Gander
before you have your final wish.
- Yeah.
- [Murph] Yeah.
Well I think, yeah.
We got a lot of... players.
- I mean, I'm for the
island, because I would like
to get Little Mermaid, and
I think that we should go
on a fun older cousin type shopping spree
where we buy you a training bra.
- Oh my God, Rosamund. This is my dream.
- That's why we're going to the island?
- And I honestly, I
won't, I won't even lie,
everything's free on Toy Island,
so you could really spree.
- [Ally] Incredible. (laughs)
- Mostly--
- So we can buy your training bra.
Two heads over here just go.
(Emily, Ally, and Siobhan laugh)
- I am fully--
- Mr. Big Bad Wolf.
- You're, yes.
You're not gonna wait for us.
This is probably a sort
of a one-time deal,
us getting sort of an escort to--
- Would you go with us to
Toy Island before we go?
- Oh my god.
- To Snowhold?
- Or is there a way that
I could reach out to you,
not as a summons, obviously,
but I could reach out to you and be like,
"Hey, we're done. I got my training bra.
Whenever's good for you.
Could we get the escort?"
- Just full stepdad energy,
doesn't even go with you to get the bra.
Is like, "You need to go
off and do your own thing
and find me after."
(Ally and Emily laugh)
- The Wolf says,
I am completely fine with you
taking as much time as you
need to get a training bra.
- Oh, so we could go to Toy Island.
- So you would come to Toy Island with us?
- No.
- Oh.
- But you'd wait just offshore?
- No, no, no. We would ask on his time.
- Allow me to be clear.
I journey now to Snowhold.
- [Lou] Okay.
- [Emily] Ah.
- And then you're gonna
maybe give us a call,
so when we're done with Toy
Island we can find you there?
- A what?
- A call.
- Just give us a holler
on the way.
- Pop out of a book,
or in the face of a mirror.
- It is possible that I will
be able to howl loud enough
that the entire world
would hear it, but...
- Okay, so we need to go to Snowhold.
- I think we gotta go with the deity now.
- You know what?
- Yeah, the God is offering
us a ride, we should take it.
- We should take it.
- Can I?
- We gotta go to Toy Island.
- I know I already cast Legend Lore,
but could I recast it just to see if there
is a training bra place in Snowhold?
- It's worth while. It's a
worth while use of that spell.
- Place that would maybe
sell some training bras.
- What kind of deal we'd have
to make with the Baba Yaga...
- To get a training bra made by her?
- A hand knit training
bra from the Baba Yaga.
- Two chicken legs.
- Mother Goose's book swirls
with light and energy,
and as it does so-
- It costs me so.
- As it does so,
Once upon a time in a village
in the depth of Snowhold,
there was a young maiden who
for seven days and seven nights
took the breath of a cat
and the light of the moon
and knitted a training
bra so radiant and shining
that it was said to blind those passers by
and a noble king beheld the training bra
and died upon the spot.
(Ally gasps for breath)
- Oh, there's no metal in it,
so it'll be really comfortable.
- Okay. That's the one I want.
- Let's do it.
- [Ally & Zac] To Snowhold.
(Everyone laughs)
- Incredible.
- [Ally] Okay.
- Leaving the castle
of the Baron of Bricks.
- Yeah. Just kind of business as usual.
- [Brennan] Biz as yuzh.
- Gerard walks grimly.
- [Ally] Yeah.
- [Brennan] Mm-hmm.
So as you leave and you get
out into the City of Chimneys,
the Wolf directs his
attention north, and you know,
there's just a sort of like
ashen, soot-filled rain
falling on the outside here.
Do you all travel by foot?
How do you guys travel?
- Can I grab just one stranger real quick?
- [Brennan] Yeah.
- Before we leave?
Excuse me, I'm gonna
cast Suggestion on him.
- Okay.
- The Baron of Bricks is no more.
The city is yours to
do with as you please,
and I suggest an adult sleepover.
(Siobhan gasps, Emily laughs)
- This guy's got a minus two.
- Can I give him the help action?
- Give him the help action?
- He's got minus--
- Can I give him an anti-help action?
- Yeah. Minus two.
Your DC is 14--
- It's 15 now.
- Is 15. He needs a 17 or higher to save.
- I shoulda asked if he was the mayor.
- 12.
- Cutting Words.
- Okay. He gets a six.
You see he goes,
(gasps) People of the City of Chimneys,
our baron is dead.
He has been slain by a fearsome wolf.
Grab what blankets and
cushions and snacks you have.
(Emily laughs hard)
Gather, to this, the third house
of the Boar of the Bricklands,
and let us snuggle and
gather in the Great Hall.
And you see trudging,
miserable factory laborers,
with soot covered blankets.
(workers humming)
Just begin to march up.
- We're gonna watch "Mean Girls."
(talking over each other)
Non-sexual adult sleepover.
- Absolutely platonic.
- Make sure those snuggles
are over the covers.
- And the entire City of
Chimneys begins to file,
trudgingly towards the adult sleepover.
- We leave them better that we found 'em.
- Amen.
(Emily laughs)
- Cool. So you guys begin
to walk through the rain.
- There's not any like,
if there's any horses or
anything that seem abandoned?
- Yeah, can we ride on the Wolf's back?
- I mean, I was thinking 'cause
we're leaving the Baron's,
is there some sort of...
he's a munitions dealer.
Is there some sort of like
sick mech suit we can find?
- Yeah, or a g*n?
- Oh yeah. Okay.
Can we just like ride a tank to Snowhold?
- Can you ride a tank to Snowhold?
There are no tanks here.
- [Zac] Okay.
- There are like ship's
cannons and things like that.
- [Lou] Okay.
- [Murph] Okay.
- We don't really have a
great way to carry this stuff.
- The ship's cannon is pretty heavy.
- Gerard sees the deity here
and is just kind of like
trying to hint that
maybe like we could all
kind of scoot along or something.
Just, yeah, it's too bad.
I feel like the horses are
gonna take a while, or...
- Do you want to get on my back?
- I mean, are you offering?
- Do we all fit?
- Do you think you could?
- I'm pretty small. He's pretty small.
- If not, I could,
I could just call us
a cab. I have a spell.
It's...
- You have a call us a cab?
- I think I can do it.
- Call us a cab?
- I can just call us,
I mean, a guy in a cart.
It's what it is.
- Cool.
- Rosamund, that'd be amazing.
- Sure.
- Okay, great.
- So you hold up a hand in
a rapidly emptying city.
- So you hold up a hand in
a rapidly emptying city.
- And I send my little
flock of birds up to circle
to see if they can find-
Make sure nobody's downstreaming us.
- So your swarm
- She's so savvy.
- rockets up,
like birds and owls and
squirrels and things
fly as like briars whip up
around you in a swarm of thorns,
and all of these animals fly from you,
and very quickly you see that
there is sort of a palanquin,
and very quickly you see that
there is sort of a palanquin,
like a large chamber, that
has the Baron's emblem on it,
has all this like brick
sort of imagery on it,
but like thick gilded wood and dark stuff.
It almost has like a teapot kind of,
there's like a sort of like
arched, spired top to it.
And you see that there are a fleet
of what looks like at first
eight servants carrying it,
but you see it's just factory coveralls
filled with squirrels and birds.
So each one of them is
like a swarm servant
that just hoists it up
and kind of wobbles there,
and see the Wolf goes,
Hmm.
- Wow.
- You're more than welcome to ride along.
- You're more than welcome to ride along.
- You want me to get in?
- If you, I just wanna offer it to you.
- No, I'll walk outside. Thank you.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- I'll get in the carriage.
- Yeah, I'm hopping in.
- Throw some breadcrumbs to the animals.
- You see that as you
throw some breadcrumbs,
one of the servants,
the chest buttons all unbutton
to just be a bunch of hungry mouths
and then it closes up again.
- You're so good to me.
- That was scary.
- That was scary.
- That was really scary.
- That was legitimately, that was tough.
- Can I ride the Wolf?
- Yeah, you can.
- I can climb up my blonde wig that's
stuck to the side of him.
- How's my wig look?
- It looks beautiful, right on the side.
- Actually, Pib, would
you tell me about the wolf
that you met?
- I never really met a wolf.
I just found these daggers.
- But you knew one of his names.
- Well these daggers
were named after a wolf
named Isengrim, who I
didn't meet personally,
but these daggers, I think
I was just told that.
So.
- Who told you?
- Between our lives, I met
some other, or you know,
- Between our lives, I met
some other, or you know,
talked to again some
other trickster spirits.
We have a sort of tenuous relationship
where they weren't sure if I
was gonna be able to do it,
but I said I could, so I came back.
- Do what?
- I'm not exactly sure, but.
- Whoa. Okay.
Isengrim. Very interesting.
Thank you. Thank you for telling me.
I just was so curious as soon
as you said it, I was like,
"I gotta ask Pib."
- So I'm the only one who's riding this?
- I'm in. Yeah, let's do it.
- We're all in except for Pib.
- I'm gonna be behind Pib,
just in case he can't handle the ride.
I can make sure that he doesn't.
- So it's the Wolf, a wig,
Pib holding the wig, you holding Pib?
- Yeah.
- And then everybody else
in the carriage.
- And everybody else
comfortably in the carriage.
Okay.
- So the carriage takes off.
It's a lovely ride.
The swarm moving the carriage
is doing a great job.
They take shifts 'cause, you know,
whoever's pulling duty in the boots
is like getting the worst
of the deal for sure.
But they just, you know, switch out.
- There's a couple of them that like it.
- There's a couple of 'em that like it.
- Like, "Oh no, not the boots
again. Oh, if I have to."
- The carriage begins to travel
and the Wolf begins to lead you
further up north towards Snowhold.
- As we do that,
can I please cast a level
three Enhance Ability
can I please cast a level
three Enhance Ability
on our two that are out of the carriage?
- Yeah.
- How long does it last?
- An hour.
- Oh, wow.
- Then yeah, you have a advantage on--
- [Emily] Oh, sick. Okay, great.
- Con saves for this ride.
Or for part of this ride.
- Sweet, thank you.
- Yeah.
- Thank you, Timothy.
- Of course.
And you also have 2D6
temporary hit points.
- Oh.
- Bear's Endurance.
- Brennan's next narration
is three hours later.
- Yeah.
(Players laugh)
- Yeah, just totally
f*cked you on this. Yeah.
- How long does that last? Great.
An hour and two minutes later.
You enter a glade.
- Incredible, all of you
begin traveling north,
and again, through the
Neverafter, along these roads
you realize walking in the wake of a god
that time is going to move
pretty differently here.
The Wolf knows secret
ways and secret roads
that get you which way
you need to go faster,
but you all will experience a long rest.
- Ohh!
- Moving on this way.
As you travel, you see that,
because you guys had sort of attacked
in the middle of the night,
so it's still nighttime.
You get out from under the
rain of the City of Chimneys
and are now heading on
a road that's going up
away from The Lullaby Lands,
further away from some
other regions like Grimmweir
and places like that,
that you eventually get to
where the forest starts to get taller
and you're further away from civilization.
As you get out under here,
storm clouds kind of part
and a little bit of
moonlight comes through.
It's a like waxing, gibbous moon.
It's getting close to full,
and it illuminates the forest,
and there's at least a little bit
of a kind of cool mystery
that fades over this place.
of a kind of cool mystery
that fades over this place.
What could be in the forest that's scarier
than what now accompanies you?
And after a long traveling
with the rain was kind of so loud
that there wasn't any
ability to really talk,
except for you guys in the carriage,
but as the rain subsides
and the moon comes out,
the Wolf speaks, without
addressing you by name, Pib,
it just goes,
Have you cracked open your book yet?
- I haven't.
- I wouldn't either.
- Is there any reason for that?
- You and I are alike in
some ways, I think, Pib.
Your companions, though some are cursed,
and some have been transformed,
were all mortals, people, humans.
I wonder if you feel that way.
I know much. I have seen many worlds.
I speak and reason.
I have memory and forethought.
I can imagine, I can dream.
All of these things I can
do, and I feel you can too.
But sometimes I wonder
if I'm truly a person.
I wonder if you feel the same
or perhaps you feel differently.
- I think some of that,
some of that resonates with me.
- It is very interesting
in this span of things.
I've walked through many stories
and I feel for your companions.
You too, Ylfa.
He remarks, you riding on his back.
- Oh, I was, I was humming "Fast Car"
trying to let them--
- Let them have a little
private conversation.
Ylfa's being very polite
right now, and goes,
I feel as though your companions suffer
from what I know many of
their stories suffer from.
Children like Pinocchio and Ylfa
are made to learn hard lessons,
and that is not fair,
and it feels that royalty
like Rosamund or Gerard
are sometimes left to wait
for something good to happen,
are sometimes left to wait
for something good to happen,
for someone to believe them,
for someone to save them.
Mother Goose, while
endangered by that book
and by their wishes,
seems to have a sense of inner direction.
I don't appear in stories
that are about me.
I don't have stories of my own.
In a way I feel as though you do,
even though you are not like them.
- That I have stories about myself?
- Yes.
What did you devote your
life to before this moment?
- Before this moment?
Before the happily ever after of my story?
- Yes.
- Well, I lived in
a world that was not fair for me.
a world that was not fair for me.
- [Brennan] Mm-hmm.
- And I figured
that I could change that.
- That I think is how we are alike.
You come from a story... (sniffs)
where you didn't have to learn a lesson.
- [Zac] Hmm.
- You are a trickster, and
I've known some tricksters,
- You are a trickster, and
I've known some tricksters,
foxes and the like.
- I know them too.
- Hmm.
I think that I have perhaps been lucky
to have always been just
one thing, which is hungry.
I don't wish to speak for you,
but you seem, on very
first meeting, very clever.
- I think I,
I feel as though I don't have a lesson
specifically to learn,
but I don't know that I feel
as single-mindedly focused
on a clear answer as you.
- Hmm.
Perhaps you are more complex
than I, in that case.
I meant only to observe.
I feel a kinship with beasts in general,
and you are one such as I,
and I wondered simply if
you felt more like them
or more like me.
- I guess,
I guess I'm starting
to feel more like you.
- Hmm. I wish you well.
I don't know what you are hunting,
but I know that you are a hunter, like me.
- Scratch his neck.
(Brennan pants)
- And we begin to move through this land
away from the lands of forest.
(wind rustling)
Into the lands of snow.
And I'm gonna need everybody
to give me a Constitution saving throw.
- Yes.
- Hell yes.
- Is it snowing outside?
- Yes.
It begins to snow outside.
- Do do we do these with advantage?
- Yes.
- Nat 20.
- Whoo.
- Oh my god. I got a Nat 1, but also a 12.
- I got a 5.
- 19.
- 15.
- Okay.
Did anybody here get an 11 or lower?
- Oh no.
- With my Nat 20 could I have been like
kind of leaning on her?
- Uh...
- [Siobhan] It's okay.
- Oh you can give her,
you can give her Bardic.
- Bardic is something I
would allow you to add.
- Okay, I lean on you
and I give you Bardic.
- Let's see.
Ooh.
I Beardsley'd that die, I'm sorry.
- Beardsley'd right off the table.
- Maybe it might be Beardsley's dice
because that was a Beardsley
die and I just... no.
- Damn.
(Players groan)
- The snow begins to come
down pretty fiercely.
Rosamund, you're going to
take a level of exhaustion.
- [Siobhan] Great. I love that.
- Wait, but she's one of our good people
with ability checks.
- I'm gonna need another
Constitution saving throw
from just Rosamund.
- Can I help?
- I will say if you notice
that something is wrong,
yeah, you can help.
Just gimme a DC 10 Perception
to see if you notice
that anything is wrong.
- Yes.
- Okay.
Yeah, you can give a help action
to see Rosamund shivering
against the cold.
- Just like over there.
- I got a nine.
- Jeez.
- That's the highest one.
- No.
(Players groan sadly)
- Ah.
- Can Pinocchio catch
- Twins.
- [Emily] (giggles) Twins!
- enough snow in his
hands to make a snowball?
- Yes he can.
- And then I'm gonna chuck it at Ylfa.
- Can I try to catch it?
- Yeah. Gimme a Dexterity saving throw.
- Okay.
- You gimme an attack roll.
- I have to tell you I do.
- Am I proficient with snowball throwing?
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- I do have advantage.
I have Danger Sense.
I have advantage on Dex saves
- Yes, absolutely. Go for it.
- from attacks I can see.
- It's only 14 on the snowball throw.
- 14 on the snowball throw.
- I got a dirty 20 to try and catch it.
- You catch the snowball.
(Lou and Emily giggle)
(Emily makes an effort sound
of throwing a snowball)
(Brennan laughs)
- Ow.
- Ah!
(Everyone laughs)
- Okay, you know we're all having fun,
but let's just keep it safe.
- [Murph] That's pure ice.
- That was awesome Pinocchio!
- I'm gonna get you back,
I'm actually gonna hit you with one.
(Emily and Brennan laugh)
- Eldritch Blast me!
- No.
(Emily laughing so hard)
- You guys begin a fun
snowball fight, and yeah,
Snowhold, you get here,
beautiful, like tall,
dark, evergreen trees
and rolling hills.
You see there's some parts of the road
that are like long wide plains.
As you see these plains coming around,
you see a couple places that are like,
well, that lake looks like a footprint.
Oh god.
- It's a big a*s giant.
- Is that freaky for you?
- Wow.
Yeah, it's a little freaky for me.
Freaky for you, dude?
- Yeah, it's, it's pretty--
- It's pretty freaky for me.
- I mean, it's freaky.
- These guys busted into my castle.
- Is this freaky for you dude?
- Shut up.
- I might go ahead and
ask, as we're riding,
I might try and gather some goodberries.
- Oh, that's smart.
I was hoping for goodberries.
- Yes, yes.
- I regretted not having them last time.
- I forgot them.
- You gather some goodberries.
- I just didn't have it stocked last time.
- Rosamund, do you do anything
to disguise your shaking
or is it just sort of happening?
- I have the Cloak of Stars,
that Gerard found at the spider cave.
Maybe I'm just like wrapped up in that.
I don't think it's very thick.
I think it's like a silk.
- Anyone here just give
me a Perception check.
(multiple dice being rolled)
- [Murph] 15.
- [Lou] 16.
- [Emily] 12.
- [Zac] 15.
- [Ally] 23.
- 15.
I think anyone that beat a 14,
you notice that Rosamund is
shivering, freezing cold.
- Should we make camp or something?
- Yeah.
- Warm up.
- I don't want to--
- Could I blow.
Could I Gust on her? Like hot breath?
- A sort of hot breath.
I think that a spell like a
Lesser Restoration or something
could maybe, or the Greater.
I don't actually know if Lesser
Restoration even does it,
but I think you just notice
that it's hard going out here.
The Big Bad Wolf turns and says,
There should be no stopping.
Rest will only invite the cold.
- Rosamund, can I create
a bonfire inside of this
or will it be very dangerous?
- Maybe I have some kind of--
- If you Create Bonfire, I think I have...
Wait, what is my cantrip?
Mine is Control Flame, so
if it gets dangerous...
- That's great.
Yes. Let's just have a
little fire in the carriage.
- Yeah, I know we can't do...
- That'd be wonderful for me.
- We can't do a full Greater
Restoration, but we just, we...
(Lou blows out like blowing on a fire)
- Absolutely safe, controlled
fire inside the carriage.
- And I'm here to just put it out.
- I'm like pretty cold, but
I could use a fire, please.
- Yeah.
- You are cold blooded.
I feel like you're just...
- I have a little apron on
and I'm making homemade marshmallows.
Why don't we try these?
- What a delight.
- The Big Bad Wolf looks at you and says,
It's possible for us, if we wish,
I can take us off the route to
find somewhere warm to stay.
- How much longer til we get there?
- When we reach the woods,
I will find the scent from the last time
that the Baba Yaga's hut was there.
I do not know where her hut
now is. It walks where it will.
It may be some time of tracking.
- Is the warm place dangerous
in any way? Is there...
- Many places in Snowhold are dangerous,
but you are dangerous as well.
- (softly) Thank you.
- I think maybe we
should find a warm place.
- Yeah.
- I'm down for that.
- I don't know if fire in the
carriage is our best idea.
- Yeah, but I am here to
blow it out if necessary.
- Hell, it's so hot.
- You have two children
coordinating a fire.
- [Murph] Right?
- I was so busy making marshmallows
in the kitchen of the carriage.
- One is made of wood.
- We could have a proper
snowball fight too.
- Also, perhaps if we
found this warm place
we could maybe outfit ourselves
a little more appropriately.
- That is true.
- Oh Gerard, were you
talking about training bras?
- I was talking about like cloaks.
- [Siobhan] Fur training bra.
- Oh, Gerard was talking about--
- Outfit ourselves
appropriately for puberty.
- A warm place then.
- I agree.
- A warm place.
- Big Bad Wolf quickly turns off the road
and begins to move across the field
followed by the now kind of a
little bit rockier palanquin.
- With a fire in it.
- With a fire in it,
and you arrive at a small tavern,
and the tavern is not in a city,
so there's no like name of it.
This is like a public house.
This is like someone's
house where they serve meals
and serve drink to
people that are traveling
or that need it,
and you see this small little lantern lit
and then a few people inside,
but the Wolf won't approach.
The Wolf turns to all of you and says,
I am hated in these lands,
as I am in most lands.
- I know.
- I will leave you here.
There is one that I can go to speak to
to see if we may shorten
our road to the Baba Yaga.
- Okay.
- Excellent.
Okay.
- Thank you.
- [Siobhan] Thank you.
- [Emily] Thank you.
- Take this. And it's the blonde wig.
- He looks at it and eats it.
- Oh, okay.
That's that was a lot of hair.
- That's gonna come back.
- I think it's synthetic. I don't even.
- Everyone look away. Everyone look away.
I'm the God of Death. Everyone look away.
- You need some water?
- It's caught in your teeth.
- Yeah, you gotta get some water.
- From this guy.
- Let's melt just a little bit of snow.
- Yeah, I Create Bonfire.
- Melt some snow,
and the Big Bad Wolf says,
Can I get some of that?
- There you go.
- Yeah. I was dehydrated.
I was boiled for a long time.
- Yeah. Yeah.
- A long time.
- But I mean, your muscles were popping
when you came out.
- Yeah.
- Super.
- There's a little bit left
in the water bucket at the end
and you see Cricket looks at it.
Should I get some of that?
- I mean, does your voice change
once you've had like
a little bit of water?
- I've never had water.
- What? You've never had water?
- In the hundred years you've been alive,
you've never had water.
- You never even got curious about it.
- I mean, a hundred year old cricket
is pretty out there to begin with.
- I've never had water. Is it good?
- Give him some water.
- He's cute now.
If he has water his voice
might not be cute anymore.
- I was like, he's pretty cute.
- Yeah. How badly do you need water?
- I don't know. I haven't
had it in a hundred years.
- He's fine.
- I think, like they would
write articles about you
being like, "See what this
hundred year old cricket does
to stay young."
- So my whole thing is giving advice
and I've been telling
kids for a long time,
'Don't drink water.'
- Okay.
- This guy's an idiot.
- Don't tell lies. Go to school.
Don't drink water.
- [Murph] All right.
- What if he just had one sip?
I bet he would go back to this voice...
- That night I threw a mallet at you,
those were your big three.
- I said, Hey, you gotta stop.
What are you throwing mallets around?
You been drinking water?
(Emily and Murph laugh)
- I think this guy is just
sort of mummified or something.
- Yeah.
- You see the Wolf in one bound
vanishes over a mountain range.
- Oh.
- And is gone, and the sort
of small house awaits you.
- All right.
- Let's do it.
- [Murph] Well...
- After you.
- I'll, I can lead the way.
- Yep.
I'd like to be behind Ylfa.
- Okay.
- I'm gonna try
and get another snowball off.
- Okay. Go ahead and gimme an attack.
- And I can't see it now.
- You can't see it now.
You still get the Dex save,
just not with advantage.
- Yeah. That's 17 to hit.
- Nat 1.
- Ylfa, just back of the dome,
and full like the field
of vision white out.
Oh.
- Yeah.
- (Ylfa transforms, voice
getting deeper) Who did that?
- Oh! Oh sh*t!
- Can you children stop
messing around please?
I'm so mad 'cause I'm so cold.
Just not enjoying other people's fun.
- So you're so f*cking cold.
- Just, can we just not be messing around
when we're almost in the warm?
- I'm gonna tackle Pinocchio in the snow.
Snow angel for me.
- Okay. Alright.
I'm having, this is honestly kinda fun.
- That was so sick. She had no idea.
- Amazing. So palanquin
stays parked outside.
What do you guys do as
you enter the tavern?
- Oh, good call.
- Should we go to it two by two?
- Do we have a story of
why the hell we're here?
- I mean, making up stories
is what we're all about these days.
- Yeah. I can, I'm pretty
good at tricking people.
- Yeah.
- Great.
- Do you wanna be the royal this time?
- Pib, you just take the lead.
- And I'll be your handmaiden.
- Yes. Yeah, sure.
- And we might not even
need to talk to anyone.
Let's just get a room
and get something to eat.
- You can borrow my...
- Okay.
- I put my hood up a lot to be...
- What is it, is this like a little tiara?
- It's a little tiara.
- Okay.
- Very feminine.
- Cat wearing an enormous tiara.
The door opens.
Go ahead and give me a Perception check.
- That is a 21.
- Okay.
You walk in,
there are a few people in here
that mostly look like
travelers, merchants.
You see that there are
some people working here.
There seems to be like
a cook in the kitchen
who's, is like a middle-aged plump woman
who has her daughter coming
out and serving people.
The daughter has a little bit
of like snow-touched hair.
Like, her hair has gone like
prematurely white a little bit.
In the corner of the
tavern, looking around here,
the only people you see that
seems to sort of be not locals,
'cause they're wearing the dress
almost more of like the
lands you came from.
They look like they're dressed
more like sort of Gerard
and Rosamund are dressed,
are three dwarfs, broad shouldered,
with heavy axes and picks at their side,
and you see they are
wearing traveling clothes
but you, on a 21 Perception,
you see the glint of chain
mail under their tunics.
They have long beards, and you see
that they are seated quietly
drinking to themselves
with a sort of seal-skin tarp
over something under the table with them.
- May I make a Perception check
using my sense of smell
to sniff for undeath?
- Yes, go ahead and give
me a Perception check
with advantage for scent.
(die hitting the table)
- Okay. It's gonna be a seven.
- Hard to say. You do get a weird smell.
- [Emily] All clogged up.
- I'll say this.
On a 7, that tarp is oiled with animal fat
and it's the only thing you can smell,
and that's kind of interesting.
- Okay. Interesting.
- But you walk in, the cook
steps out from the kitchen
and there's a sort of serving counter
up near the door of that room.
She puts a big cauldron of
stew up on some ceramic tiles
and turns around, as you -- Oh
you approach with the tiara?
- Hello. And I- I...
- Hello. Your tiara, it is beautiful.
I never have seen before a cat
wear such a beautiful... j- jewelry?
- It is a type of jewelry. Yes.
You're very smart.
- Okay. (laughs)
As the rest of you walk in,
what's the vibe you're all
trying to sort of walk in with?
- I'm in handmaiden mode.
- [Brennan] Handmaiden mode.
- Yeah, I think just
following politely behind.
- Lots of this.
- We don't wanna...
- Walk up directly to the fire.
- So you have hood up
and go towards the fire.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- I do have my hood fully up,
but I am handmaiden, like
looking like an attendant.
- Awesome, and who are you handmaidening?
- Pib.
- Okay, awesome.
Because you're going to go handmaiden Pib,
I just want you to give
me Stealth with advantage.
(clack of dice hitting the table)
- 18.
- Okay.
You go straight to the fire.
You see she says,
You and your companions need to have...
we'd be happy to have you, drinks.
I see we have travelers.
I have to assume you are trying
to undo some curses here.
I see frog and cat and...
- Oh, you know, just
long-term goals like that,
but right now we're just
trying to get out of the cold.
- Of course, of course.
It is your first time here in Snowhold?
- Mm-hmm. Yeah.
We're just venturing in from Yarnington.
- Oh, very good. Yardington?
- Yarnington.
- [Brennan] Yarnington.
- It's where I'm a royal.
- A cat is the king of Yarnington.
- It's very small, it's for cats.
- Wow.
- This is sort of my coterie or whatever.
- Right on the coast, it's gorgeous.
- I'm trying to get
turned back into a cat.
Someone cursed me and made me a man.
- Basically we were all cats at one point.
- Yeah, I was a handmaiden.
- Yeah.
- Now I'm a pawmaiden.
- Meow, meow, meow.
- Let's get a Deception check going here.
- [Lou] Let's get a
Deception check going here.
- Just, just from him?
- Oh, just from Pib?
- Oh, bad, bad.
- Yikes. Well, can we be helping him?
- You can give a group Deception.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
I just got a...
- Is that okay?
- Okay. 24.
- 24. Gotcha.
- I got a 24 as well.
- The woman keeping the house goes,
Oh, of course.
Well please, there are rooms upstairs,
if you can pay. If not,
you know, this is fine.
You do not have to...
- No, we'll pay.
- I look to Timothy,
who's been giving out
gold coins liberally.
- I press a gold coin into her hand.
- More than enough for
a room for the night.
And do you have any horses to
stable or anything like this?
- They're, you know, on their own.
We have some different kinda animals
that actually like it out here, so.
- Oh.
- We were just hoping to get
some soup, maybe some hot tea.
Pretty much any warm
liquid that you have? Yeah.
- Oh.
- Pretty cold.
(Murph and Emily laugh)
- Yes, of course, of course.
- I push another gold coin.
- She takes the second
one, and says, Right away,
and you guys have a bunch
of, it's like hot broth
with like potato and leeks and
turnips and things like that.
- Ooh, I love leeks.
- Tasty.
This is a stew.
- Better without the wolves.
- This is a vegetarian stew.
- [Ally] No raw onion.
- So you guys eat,
immediately the fire starts
to seep into your bones.
- So it's the person who
works there, the dwarfs,
who, was there anyone--
- And she had a daughter,
and there's some other
locals that are here as well,
but the people of interest
were definitely like those
dwarfs in the corner.
- What do you guys think?
Should I go over there?
- I think you, yeah, you are--
- Get in there.
- Quick with the words.
- I feel like we could just be kind of
straight up with them, right?
- Yeah.
- Yeah, yeah.
- Seems like you're--
- We can bring over
some beers.
- Yeah, maybe.
Can I get a round of ales?
- Yeah, I might go, if you're going.
- Why don't we, should we all just go?
- [Ally] Yeah.
- Should we just combine tables?
- Sit close by.
- Yeah, let's combine tables.
- We just walk up and
combine tables with them.
- Maybe we'll send the ales over first
have the table at the ready.
- Sending the ales over.
Go ahead and give a Persuasion
check with advantage.
- Nice.
- There you go.
- Just standing up by
the table, ready to go.
- [Ally] Drinking soup,
trying to look cool.
- Persuasion.
- Call it a DC 15.
- [Zac] I don't make
it. Wait, I have a 10.
- What about say, don't
you have that thing
that you can add to a roll.
- Oh, 15.
So it, yeah, yeah, I have...
- So we're definitely all
within 30 feet of you.
- Yeah.
- So that means I add...
- 5.
- Oh, okay. Yeah.
5, so 15--
- Oh, 15 exactly.
How about that?
- Nice.
- There it is.
- So you wave, it doesn't work,
and then the rest of us wave also.
- Holding a little table.
- Yeah. See the tankards land.
You see as the tankards land,
the dwarf that is most
obscured by the table
moves a hand to an axe,
just with the tankard's landing.
- Oh.
- And the person goes
and waves over, and all of you guys wave,
and the dwarfs look at all of you,
and you see basically, really
quick scan, like your weapons,
the manner of your dress,
everything like that.
- I curtsy.
- And you see--
- I flex.
- We'll work on it.
- You see that one of the
dwarfs looks out at all of you,
looks at them, looks at the
tankards, and raises them all.
- Hi.
- [Brennan] To your health.
- Lift the table, we
cheers with the table.
- To your health.
- We cheers with the
table, and then lay it down
right next to theirs.
- You want to join table?
- Should we just join tables?
- You know, if it's not too presumptuous,
we'd love to just have a little
conversation, Master Dwarf.
- The woman, Natalia, comes
back over, the innkeeper,
and says, With those two gold pieces,
can I bring out some apps?
- Absolutely.
- Why don't we do apps
for the combined table?
- Apps for the combined table.
- Apps for yeah, for everybody
- All the dwarfs look at
each other, and they're,
Apps for the combined tables?
And you see, yeah.
You guys've had this
wonderful, filling stew.
Bunch of potato skins, some mozz sticks.
Just, bam.
- Mozzarella sticks?
- And if it's more for
sauces, we'll get it.
- We'll get it. All of the sauces.
- Yeah, we'll get a
dessert tray of sauces.
- Some kind of melty cheeses.
- The dwarfs look over at you.
One of the dwarfs,
the one who is like the most far back
and like had a hand move to the axe, goes,
Yo, this is very kind.
Thank you very much for
to share these meals
from the innkeeper.
- Of course.
- Of course. Of course.
- I don't wanna be forward,
but I think perhaps
we have a mutual friend.
- All of them lean back
and you hear their armor creek,
unsure of the intention of those words,
and to anyone here with
like a high Perception,
all of them have readied
actions right now.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- I think we're all on the same side here.
- Mm-hmm.
- I would not be so sure.
I'm not clear on who you are
or why you have approached us
with these tankards of ale to gain favor,
or with the apps.
- So obviously there's a
lot going on these days,
and Snowhold's not too far from here,
and we do not want,
we want nothing to do with the king there.
We are opposed to his.
- You are opposed to
this Council of Kings?
- You are opposed to
this Council of Kings?
- Yes, in fact-
- There is a princess amongst us.
- And we just--
- You say
there's a princess among you
and all of them turn to look,
and they look all right at you.
- No--
- Your Highness?
- Yes.
- Oh sh*t.
I've been wanting this for so long.
- I put the tiara.
(Brennan and Emily laugh)
- On Red's head!
- Oh no, I'm regressing. I'm regressing.
- I'm regressing.
- What a pretty princess you are.
- It is not I. It is the Frog Princess.
- I am a prince.
- You are wearing two crowns.
- I'm gonna take that, I'm
gonna put it back on my...
you know what, I'm gonna
bring it over here.
- I've always...
- I straight up know this is not--
- Oh, come on.
- Thank you.
- [Murph] With that face it's not--
- Okay, I kind of
get the bit now, that
it's the bit that you,
is because the one person that the crown--
- Yeah, uh-huh. Isn't that so funny?
- They look and they say--
- Someone else?
- In what way do we
know that this is true?
Do you have a way of allowing us
to understand that you
are speaking the truth?
- I have the letters from the pig.
- I do have a way. I also have this sword.
- I am the sword,
and you see the whole tavern whips around.
- So sorry.
He was singing. It was not the--
- (Singing) I am the sword of truth.
- You see that one of
the lead dwarfs goes,
My word.
Veritas, the Sword of Truth.
Things made by dwarfs are
for dwarfs to recognize.
This you have.
Do you swear on it now that your companion
is a princess true born?
- Which companion?
- The one here.
- Oh, I don't think--
- Yes we--
- Hey, I think that's over.
(Brennan and Emily laugh heartily)
- We swear.
- Me?
- We swear on this very loud sword
that Rosamund is a princess.
- Is it you? I mean,
if you were a prince...
- It's over. Is it over?
- [Zac] I think that part's over.
I don't know why we would.
- I've already sworn.
- Timothy, Timothy, I've been
there. Do you need to keep
it up for a little longer?
- A little bit longer.
- If that's sort of a goal,
we could get there maybe.
- You know just when
you get the mouth feel
that's like, f*cking finally.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- I know.
- Okay.
- Very well.
- That's her.
- Is everyone okay?
- No, not at all.
- [Emily] Of course not.
- I'm so tired.
- All of them look at you and go,
Your Highness. You are a princess.
Are you the one that our
princess has been seeking?
- Ah, I- I think I might be,
but I know there are more than one of us.
- There are more than one,
but the true princess,
our true princess, has
already arrived in this world.
- I don't know if I'm a...
I wouldn't say that I was a- a...
- I've traveled alongside
you. You're a true princess.
- All of these dwarfs' eyes
sink further into their head.
- Princesses, I mean I've met one
and she seemed very princess-y.
- We mean to say, you know
the secrets of the princesses.
- We mean to say, you know
the secrets of the princesses.
Yeah.
- Mm-hmm.
- You are the one,
or at least one of them that
we have been looking for.
By the way, as their
eyes sink in their head,
you see they sink and
become like dark pools,
and you get the sense that these dwarfs
are no longer living.
- Yeah.
- Or are like being used--
- Oh boy.
- These are the dead.
- These are the dead.
- That there is some,
and you even see like,
I think those of you with
any kind of like magic
can see that the clasps on their cloak
might be glamouring them,
that they appear alive,
but you see that the leader of them goes,
We are well met.
I am Arzt. These are my
associates, Mürrisch and Schläfrig.
And the leader of the
dwarfs looks and goes,
Our Princess, we had not
come searching for you.
We are on a very dangerous,
highly important mission.
We are on a very dangerous,
highly important mission.
We are returning as fast as
possible to the encampment
where our princess is making ready
to push her as*ault on
the Tsar of Snowhold.
- We would be super interested
in helping with that.
- Yes, we would.
- Yeah.
- It would be our pleasure.
- What is it that you have in this...
- Please do not point.
- Seal skin, selkie situation.
- The seal skin is merely
to disguise the scent.
It is a powerful odor of
what we carry under here.
(Brennan clears his throat)
Within this chest, there is a hare.
Within that hare, there is a duck.
(Emily gasps)
Within the duck--
- Koschei The Deathless.
Is this Koschei the Deathless?
- Please...
- Okay. I'm sorry.
- Be relaxed about it.
- Excuse me, what is
Koschei the Deathless?
- My grandma told me about this.
- Ja, he's very dangerous.
- Holy sh*t.
- Listen.
- Is it a turducken?
- On the morrow, there
will not even be a...
The Tsar is not sending an army.
He's sending Koschei against
us. Deathless knight.
A knight who cannot die.
Single-handedly he could
slaughter all of this army,
but we are very cleverly
gone to the island
where his death is chained,
and you see he taps the
chest with his foot.
- Yes, and this, if you
are able to k*ll this,
then he can be k*lled.
- It is more to say
that it is the intention of Our Highness
to release it when Koschei
rides over the hill
on the morrow.
- That is very smart.
- Okay.
- That is really cool.
- What is it?
I don't even understand. I
don't think I'm familiar.
- One of the champions of this...
sorry, let me do it the right way.
Once upon a time, there was
a knight here within Snowhold
who was a fearsome warrior,
slaughtered enemies by
the hundreds of thousands
and seeking to be the most powerful knight
in all of this realm,
he took his death and sealed
it away inside of a needle,
and he put that needle in an egg,
and that egg he put in a duck,
and the duck he put in a hare,
and the hare he put in the chest,
and then the chest went to an island
and it was a schlep to find it.
- And he smells like sh*t. What?
- Well, it smells like, I mean,
you can't put a duck in a
hare and have the hare live.
The hare's dead.
- But the duck's alive?
- God. I hope not.
- What about the egg?
- Is the needle still usable?
- Does the egg have
little feet that come out?
- No, and the question I had
is, so he puts the
needle in the egg somehow
without breaking it, what a magic trick,
but also that somehow
the egg he put in a duck,
but also that somehow
the egg he put in a duck,
like back in a duck.
Is it a duck's egg? We don't know.
- Wouldn't it crack?
- And I'm sorry,
were you referencing Sheldon
from "Garfield and Friends"?
(Zac and Brennan laugh)
- I don't know.
- Oh my god.
- Arzt, the leader of the
dwarfs, looks and says,
This must arrive back to Her
Highness before the morning.
I know, Your Highness, that
if you were to accompany us,
you would be greeted with open arms.
She has heard much about you.
If you are indeed the
the sleeping briar walls
that they have spoken of,
then we would be able to
take you straight to her.
- Well that's... I mean, should we do it?
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Oh, are they asking us to help them?
Are you asking us to help you?
- It is yours to come with if you wish.
We do not know your
business here in Snowhold.
If you have come here only to find us.
- Wait, so can I ask you
another personal question?
- Yeah.
- Why are you alive?
- Who says I am?
- Or, you know what I mean?
How are you here if you are not alive?
- Oaths were sworn to
the Princess Snow White.
We fulfill those oaths in life or death.
- Cool.
- Sick.
- That's pretty cool.
- That's awesome.
- Whoa.
- So you have a decision to make,
'cause the Big Bad Wolf is
going to find information
to get you to Baba Yaga's hut,
but these dwarfs have basically said
that once they're done
eating, it's time to go,
and you have that level of exhaustion.
So, let me ask, do you wish
to accompany the dwarfs
or do you wish to remain here
waiting for the Big Bad Wolf?
- Can we do this? Guys, can we plug these?
- Can we unjoin the tables for a second?
You guys can keep the apps.
- We're gonna pull this table.
- Yeah, we push all the
apps to their table.
- [Brennan] What a show of good faith
for us to keep the apps.
- If you want, you can talk
to the sword while we're--
- Can I actually, I know
you have to talk real quick.
Just real quick. How many
potato skins has everyone had?
Because I don't, I've had two already.
- Two.
- I've had two.
- I've only had one. And
can I roll a Deception?
(Everyone laughs)
- Oh.
- Okay. That's pretty good.
That's a 25.
- I've had three. I'm sorry.
- That's fine. You're a princess.
- You look exhausted.
- Yeah.
- Okay, so you should have the last one
because you've only had one.
- Yeah, that sounds right.
(Brennan laughs)
- Okay. You guys pull off on your own.
- All right.
- Okay.
- I personally feel like what we want
is to maybe join up with the princesses.
- Yeah. I think so too.
- And I wouldn't mind
putting off meeting the Baba Yaga.
- Same. I'm very afraid of the Baba Yaga.
- Can you appeal to the Wolf and
communicate with him in someway?
- I wonder if you can just say--
- [Lou] We can leave him a sign.
- I'll try to communicate
with him, but I--
- Maybe if you Message him.
- I bet he hates this guy anyway.
- Are you messaging?
- (hoarsely) Death?
It's me, Ylfa Snorgelsson.
(Ally chortles)
- Are you saying that to us?
- No, no, no. I'm casting a spell.
- Okay.
- Oh, you're saying it,
you were just saying it.
- As a spell component.
- The fire's louder than your voice.
- [Siobhan] I could maybe-
- I think he's busy.
I think he's driving right now.
(Players laugh)
- I think--
- He's got
that push notification
that says "I'm driving."
- I have a way, I think, potentially,
but it might take up to an hour.
I could use Beast Sense
to enter into the body of
one of my little birds.
- Okay.
- And just fly above
and see if I can find--
- The Wolf, and let him
know that we've gone
in a different direction.
- Why don't we?
- But you would have to carry me.
Like I'm, I'm like...
- We could carve it into a tree.
- Yeah.
- Around,
like beneath the palanquin.
- But then people will
see, they'll be like--
- It's like posting a bulletin.
- We'll just say, I don't
know, the Wolf's a god.
- We'll just say, I don't
know, the Wolf's a god.
The Wolf will know something's up.
- Did he give us a time that
he was meeting back up with us?
- Well, no. I think he was just going to--
- That's true. He could
probably just find us.
The dwarfs said they
need to leave by night.
- [Lou] Yeah.
- Why don't we send the bird out after
and try to find the Wolf,
just to give him a heads up.
- [Lou] Great.
- I could also try to send
him another note in my book.
Just like write.
- Don't-
- In blood, in my book.
- Don't.
- So much blood.
- [Emily] "Hey, are you getting this?"
- You stab yourself.
The dwarfs all kind of are
not listening to you talking,
but they do see you stab
yourself, and they go, Huh.
- Just trying to commune
with my Death god.
- [Brennan] Oh ja, that makes sense.
- You know the deal.
- Ja, for sure.
The blood goes into the page
and an image of a hut
with chicken legs appears
and an image of a hut
with chicken legs appears
and then fades away.
- I think he found her.
(mysterious music)
- The dwarfs look to you
as the last potato skin
goes down and says,
Ehm, not to rush, but do have your answer?
- Let's roll.
- I don't even like potatoes.
- I think let's go, let's
go with the dwarfs. Right?
- Let's do it. I'll try to get a to-go box
for the rest of the mozz sticks.
You don't like them?
- No, they're good,
but they won't last.
- Do you want to just write
with the remaining blood
- So, still feeling the shiver
of Snowhold on you, Rosamund,
you step out to your palanquin
and you see another carriage
that is also drawn by figures in cloaks,
and you see faces turn
and the skulls of sparrows and birds
as Snow White's servants lift a carriage
for the dwarfs to travel in.
- Dead Snow White.
- As carriages head
out under the moonlight
across the frozen plain,
illuminated here in deathly cold,
to face Koschei,
and with whatever magic Snow
White has at her disposal.
And that's all for this
episode of "Dimension 20".
Tune in next week and we'll see you there.
Farewell.
(dramatic music)
- Do you know Princess Elody?
- That's a great question.
- She's on her way.
- Here?
[Siobhan And Ally gasp]
- This book was not written in this world.
- No.
- We kind of all have 'em.
- Where did you collect this from?
- Where are these men?
- Well, we've k*lled a lot of them.
(Emily laughs)
- A lot of them were dead, around me.
- What's the difference between destiny
and what we think the story
of our life should be?
- Cricket, that was,
that was way too much.
- He just smashes Gerard
over the back of the head.
- Ah.
- Good frog meat.
- Ah. I try to k*ll him.
- We will see you soon.
- Farewell sister.
- Help me.
- I'm gonna, I'm gonna.
- So ideally how this turns
out is you feed me human meat.
(Brennan cackles)
(Brennan scream cackles)
(tense music)
