Nathalie: My name is Nathalie Hernandez,
I'm 15 years old,
and I'm from Dunedin, Florida.
I really love to sing.
When I was young, I did recitals for kids.
And I just love being onstage
and letting people, like, relate to me,
and I feel like people
can really connect with me.
Where does Nathalie get to do
most of her singing right now?
Most is local competitions
and talent shows and stuff.
What kind of competitions?
Well, I've been in my hometown,
Dunedin, Teen Idol,
and then I also did Largo Teen Idol,
which I won recently.
Then I just try to get my music out there.
You're at the biggest
competition in the world now.
How do you think you're gonna do?
I'm just gonna do my best
and just give it all I got.
I missed my prom for this.
I missed, actually,
my brother's graduation.
For a teenager,
those are pretty big sacrifices,
but I'm definitely willing
to give it up for this.
If I made it onto a team,
I think it would be life-changing for me.
I mean, I know I'm young
and I still have my whole life to do this,
but I want to do this now.
Being on "The Voice" is just so amazing.
This is definitely the biggest
opportunity I've ever had,
to get a coach that will be able
to help me be who I want to be
and do my own style.
Being one of the youngest people
in this competition
against people who have more experience,
I definitely, like,
get nervous thinking about it.

I'm 31 years old and I'm from
Allentown, Pennsylvania.

when you were doing that stuff,

When I was 19, I got a call
from this casting agent,
and she had this audition
for this boy band
that was signed over in Europe.
The name of the group was B3,
and it was amazing.

We had, like, a bunch of success...

And then I came back to America,
and no one knew me.
I went pretty much from famous
to being nobody overnight.
I even played on the street,
and it was crazy.

It's humbling, hard times.
It shaped who I am now.
And I think it made me 100 times

looking to turn a troubled past
into a bright future.
I'm Caitlin Michelle, I'm 20 years old,
and I'm from Boston, Massachusetts.
I discovered
that I could sing when I was 5.
So then I started singing
in little talent shows
and little musicals.
Man: Singing has always been her passion,
and music's really helped her
get through some difficult times,
especially in high school.
I suffer from extreme panic disorder.
And when I have a panic attack,
I stop breathing, my heart
starts beating really fast,
and I usually pass out.
The worst part about them
is literally feeling like
you are going to die.
I never turned to drugs,
I never turned to alcohol,
but I needed some sort of vice.
That's when I really discovered
my love of music,
and it kind of saved me.
At an open-mike night,
she sang an Alicia Keys song,
and my jaw just hit the floor.
That's when it really hit me that,
"wow, she can really sing."
Finding the ability to write music
just got me out of that funk,
and that's when I found a real
connection with being onstage
because that was my medicine.
That was the only time I felt okay.
I just kind of choke up...
when I hear her sing 'cause I'm so proud.
I'm sorry.
Walking around backstage,
I can hear everyone,
and I'm just so excited and nervous.
Basically, everything I've ever worked for
is coming together right at this moment.

I feel like I've been
prepared very well for this,
and it's going to be
the performance of my lifetime.

I'm 18 years old.
I'm from Denham Springs, Louisiana,
and I live in Nashville now.
Woman: We realized that Nicole
had talent when she was 3 or 4.
She would like to go around singing.
We got her a little guitar.
And by the time she was 7,
she wrote her first song.
After that, I just knew
that I wanted to go for it
and be a singer.
My mom was wonderful enough
to take me to Nashville
whenever I was playing shows
or writing with people.
So, we made 40 trips within
a year-and-a-half time period.
It was absolutely crazy.
We eventually just decided
we needed to move to Nashville.
I decided to homeschool my sophomore year.
It was really difficult at first
to do music and write songs every day
but yet still have a normal life.
But I truly believe
that I made the right choice
in going with my music career
and following my heart
and following my dreams.
I want this for my parents
because they've done so much for me.
I mean, they left everything
they had back in Louisiana
and moved for me.
To be able to sing for Blake,

a middle-school French teacher.
Being a full-time middle-school
teacher is not easy.
If you have a bad day,
you can't just phone it in
because they will chew you up
and spit you out.
So you've got to give 100%.
Giving 100% to music at the same time
is very, very, very stressful.
So being able to move forward
in this competition
will be a statement to my students,
a statement to my family,
a statement to myself
that this is my dream.
This is something
I want to do for a living.
I'm nervous.
Thinking about my students,
you don't do such a good job at something,
they will definitely remind you of it.

It was larger than life.
What was that like to even be a part of?
I really felt like
I was part of a rock band.

did inspire me to pursue my own artistry.
I would watch her and just be in awe

at a place in my life
where I have the strength to take that on.

What's that about?

Growing up, I had major eating issues.
I had eating-disorder issues.
I've been very insecure
and been way too hard on myself.
So all of the pain and the pressure
that comes from my own battles
with myself and my own darkness.
But I've grown up,
and I've made a lot of progress
and I want to tell the story
now that I've lived it.
That's what I heard your voice,
and it's not always obvious
to everyone, but, you know,
yours was obvious to me.
And it hit a sweet spot, you know, in me.
I could definitely relate to you
because I've written, on many occasions,
from a very painful place.
And there is a way to overcome it.

Mission Viejo, California.
I've always been singing
since I was like 2 years old.
My dad got me into soul music
and R&B and blues
and doo-wops and stuff,
so he had a pretty big impact
on my music choices.
My dad can't make it here today
because he's really sick.
He got diagnosed with liver disease,
and so he's kind of
going through that right now.
And so that's really hard.
I wish he could be here.
I know.
Yeah.
He used to be so strong.
And now he's, like,
the weakest person in the world.
My dad had to stop working,
and so now my mom
is the only one
who's supporting the household.
And so, it got too hard
for her to afford a house,
so that's why all of us had to
move to a two-bedroom apartment
with seven people.
I sleep on the couch.
My brothers sleep on the floor.
But, I mean, I'm sure a lot of people
have it a lot worse than me,
so I am thankful I have somewhere to live.
I get through it all by singing and music.
I really want to win "The Voice"

Celica: I'm a third-generation singer.
My grandparents were singers,
my parents were singers,
and now I'm a singer.
Even though I'm fairly young
for this business,
I've gotten very close to making it.
At 14, I was offered a record deal,
and they said, "we're gonna
put you on the Bieber tour."
We were really close to being
signed, but it all fell apart.
That's a great arrangement. That's cool.
It was very heart-breaking,
but I've definitely grown as a person,
and I'm thankful
I went through that experience.
It's a really good feeling
to know that she's here.

she sings with a lot of emotion.
So we're very proud when she sings.
It's very moving to us.

and I'm feeling very excited,

I have worked my entire
short life to get to this point,

I am from Grayson, Georgia.
I'm 26 years old,
and, currently, I am a full-time musician.
I've been singing my whole life.
I've just grown up
in a house that was always,
always filled with music.
And it was like breathing for me.
I just know a chair will

Mama, don't jinx it.
Hands down, my biggest weakness
is insecurity.
It's something I've always struggled with
and it's something I will struggle with
for the rest of my life.
For over a decade,
because of serious bullying
and being overweight when I was younger,
I battled an eating disorder.
And it took me
literally until the decade mark
to go to my parents
and say that I needed to go in treatment
because I couldn't fix myself
and I couldn't do it on my own.
And when I was in treatment,
I would wake up in the morning
and dream of being well enough
to play shows.
Honestly, music has been
just a life raft for me.
And I think that I was given
the gift and the love of music
so that I can see a little girl
who was like me...
And tell her that things get better.
I had to work my butt off
to become who I am as a singer,
as a songwriter, as a performer.

Rudy: I started playing music in 1976
because I liked the rock group Kiss.
I've always had this burning
desire to be involved in music.
And I had aspirations
of going on the road,
being on tour,
but when I turned about 25,
I got married and I had a child.
My mom and dad divorced
when I was like 4 years old.
I know what it's like
to not have a father.
So I just said, "you know what?"
"I'm just gonna raise my daughter"
"and do what I think is best for her."
So I stayed local, did local gigs,
and I took care of my daughter.
My daughter's now 22 years old.
She just recently
had my first and only grandson.
She's just...
she's just everything to me.
She really means a lot to me,
so I want to, you know,
always keep a watchful eye over her.
I just only want the best in her life.
Sounds like your dad sort of
put his dream on hold for you.

Now that she's older,
