a team of eight singers

From a select group
of the nation's best artists,

Who've been invited to audition
for our coaches.

But it's not gonna be easy.

The coaches will have
their backs to the artists

So how a singer looks,
what they wear,

Or even their age
can't influence them.

On this show,
only the voice matters.

Christina: I'm drawn to very
soulful, bluesy-type voices.

I can't believe
I'm actually gonna get to sing

In front of christina.

Adam: Well, you could be
a country singer,

You could be an r&b singer,
you could be a pop singer.

Rebecca: Singing
is kind of like talking,

But from, like,
the deepest part of your heart.

Blake:
I'm not gonna just be listening
for other country singers.

Javier:
Music and I are one.

It's all
that I've ever wanted to do

And all that I ever want to do.

I won't know until I feel it.

So, here's how it works.

When a coach is blown away
by what they hear,

They hit a button,
which turns their chair,

And the artist lands a spot
on their team.

But if more
than one coach turns,

The power shifts,
and the artist gets to choose

Which superstar
is the right fit for them.

Christina: Who do you pick
as your coach?

Daly: In that case, the coaches,
who are also competing,

Must convince the artist
to join their team.

Why should I choose you
over cee lo?

When you look at me now,

That I was bullied,
but back in elementary school,

I was a complete nerd.

When you sort of
look back on your life,

When I was really young,
I liked sports,

But it was -- I was never very
athletic in the first place,

And my friends
couldn't understand

Why I didn't want to go throw a
baseball or go throw a football.

And I remember coming home every
day from school and just crying.

I can't really explain it.

Just singing and making music

Has always been
the most natural thing for me.

You go right back to
high school, anybody
that picked on you.

But, see, instead
of saying something to them,

I'd rather just sing

In front of 50 million --
however many people.

And I think that speaks
for itself.

To me, being on "the voice" is
the opportunity of a lifetime.

But I could never work

I'm from fort lauderdale.

is father-of-six jared blake.

I think life is full of choices,

And I've made a lot of bad ones,

Just a lot of drinking,
a lot of drug abuse.

I quit drinking
about three years ago.

The reason that I quit
was I have four little girls.

I was afraid that they'd grow up
and marry someone like me,

And so I decided
I'd become the guy

That I wanted them
to grow up and be with.

I'm much stronger now
than I've ever been.

It's been a long journey
getting here.

I've definitely had my ups
and downs in the music industry.

I can't count the deals
that's been on the table

it ever got to the lawyer.

it's gonna be your last chance.

I'm hoping "the voice"
will be that one thing
