The blind auditions continue

as the best singers
in the nation give it their all,

hoping to make a coach's team.

Being 51 years old,

I think you're looked upon

because it just doesn't match
what they see.

of opportunities

with recording companies.

The one thing I heard repeatedly

was I wasn't marketable,

And both times,
both different labels said

that they would agree to sign me

if I agreed to just have
a completely different look.

Getting judged that way
is very disheartening

because no one really cares
what's coming out.

They just care
what they're looking at.

I would love to just be me
and look like me

and that just be okay.

is so perfect for me.

I want this terribly.

It's not all about looks.

an opportunity.

Up next, 19-year-old Elley Duhe
is here to prove

that the sacrifices
she and her family have made

for her music are worth it.

I started singing
about four years ago.

I did a lot of open-mikes,
and then I started doing shows.

Life for me
wasn't typical teenage years

because I did music
all the time.

That's all I ever did.

When kids are preparing

for where they want
to go to college,

my parents,
they'd take me out of school.

They would drive me to gigs
that I had to go to

that were far away.

This is it.
This is your big chance.

I think you can do it.

They realized
how important this was to me,

but I had to make a choice
of what I really wanted to do,

so my senior year,
I decided to quit school.

So, what do you do
when Elley comes to you guys...

and you're an educator...
and says, "Hey, I want to...

you know, I've got this music.
I want to pursue that"?

As parents, what do you say?

Well, you know, it's not an easy
decision to make, you know?

But I told her, you know,

maybe it would be better for her
to homeschool

and just keep going with music

because she's got
a lot of talent,

and down the road,
she may decide herself

that she wants to go back
and pursue that.

I am so grateful
to have my parents' support.

I mean, that's just, like,
the best feeling in the world

because I'm here to make a
better life for me and my family

and do what I love to do.

I have been singing probably
since before I could talk.

I'm almost more comfortable
onstage than I am offstage.

I've had the lead in a couple
shows in high school

and in musical theater a lot.

Since I was young,

I like to push the envelope
a little bit with my style.

I really like to take things
and make them pop a little bit.

But the fact that my voice
and my looks

don't exactly go together

has kind of kept me a little bit
from certain things

because people seem to not want
to take me as seriously.

You have a great sense

I just kind of make stuff up
as I go.

And I don't like to, like,
blend in with the crowd, so...

It really will

I think
it is an advantage for me

just because I think a lot of

and coming from a small town,

I don't really have
a ton of opportunities

except the small coffee shops

that would be amazing.

He always used to play,

and just made sure that my life

was kind of always filled
with music

and passed that on to me.

it's the greatest voice

The relationship I have with
my father is insane friendship.

He can be one
of my craziest friends,

as well be the biggest mentor.

About a month and a half ago,
I found out

that my father was diagnosed
with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

He looked me in the eye
and said,

"I'm going to be dying
of cancer,"

and that's really hard to hear.

I sit here with tears
welling up in my eyes,

but I feel like
I can't be upset.

I don't want to look at him
as a dying person.

Like, he's still here.

He has such a positive attitude
on it,

and I feel like
I cannot bring him down

with my sadness that one day,
he won't be here,

but today's not that day.

As horrible as this situation
might be,

it is such a blessing

to have "The Voice"
be a wonderful distraction.

This is actually
for my dad, my mom

to have something
to look forward to

and stay positive about,

and it gives my dad a chance

to see me live my dream.

until they can see me do it,

'cause a lot of people
just think

that you say you're a singer,

very good at it.

As Katrina heads
to the blind auditions,

I grew up playing football.

Music was always in my family.

My father played for many years,
but I stayed the sports route.

The school
I played football for

was Texas A&M
University-Kingsville.

While I was there,

we won four conference
championships in a row.

After I played college football,
I became a football coach.

After I finished
my first year of coaching,

I just decided
to go buy a guitar one day,

and I've been singing for about
three years now, full time.

Oh, I'm very proud of him...
very proud.

He's following
in his dad's footsteps.

I would have never thought it
with him

because he was such
a football guy...

just football,
football, football,

but he was always driven,

and I was always proud of him
for that.

Yeah,
I definitely don't look like

the average singer at all.

Yeah, usually I get "security"

or, you know, "What are you...
a UFC fighter?"

Or, you know,
something like that.

But, you know, I just try to...

I try to go out there
and do the best I can

and hope the people like it.

and I really think
half the battle is already won

with just the song,
so I'm excited.

I work very hard at what I do.
I'm good at it.

And I think making a team

is just the next step
to this process

and the next step to my career.

I've basically been gigging at
small venues to make a living.

To win "The Voice"

would totally solidify
why I do what I do.

The reason I wear sunglasses

is because
it's an old boxing injury.

As a child, I was a kickboxer,
as a matter of fact,

and I got a thumb to the eye,

which scratched my retina,
actually tore my retina,

and I've been wearing glasses
since then.

So, that's why I wear them.

This is not a cool factor.

he's still present in me.

I feel like every time
I open my mouth, he's there.

He was my hero,

I work at a body shop.

It's been a family business
for 60 years...

been passed down from
my grandfather to my father.

On December 13, 2005,

group of friends
were together in a basement,

your musical influences.

Well, number one would be
my grandmother.

She... she, uh, unfortunately
passed away in January.

I'm sorry.

But just to sit around,
you know, at hristmas time

with my grandmother
and play guitars

and... and sing together
and everything was awesome.

I do come from a musical family

with my grandmother being
a bluegrass musician.

She was the first one
to give me my first guitar,

and, honestly, everything
musical comes from her.

She was
an incredible guitar player,

and she had the most beautiful
voice you could ever hear.

You... you would
appreciate this.

I used to do a lot of touring
with college tours,

and I would actually have
my grandmother out,

and she'd come onstage with me,

but for some reason,
it just mixed really well.

It was a very, very special time

to share the stage
with my grandmother.

I'll always remember.
