I'm David I'm Jarrod i'm keiko I'm the nice hi I'm Pablo and

Zelly I'm Alisa oh yeah I'm David hi I'm Jared

[Music] it's the making of zoom we've never

before seen home video of the Zoomers come on and zoom behind the scenes in

the auditions to the rehearsals will give you the inside scoop and show you what it's really like to be a zoom it's

loud in 20 moments from the making of zoom with Keiko elisa pablo Lenise David

and me Jared sketch and me Zoe hi and

welcome to the making of zoom if you are zooming PBS every week then you know all

about the cool things we do here on set but this is other stuff you've never seen like the rehearsals the mistakes or

what we do backstage and they're just waiting around it takes a lot of work to sh**t all the games place and zingers

for zoom but it's a lot of fun to just watch here's a race challenges and I

smell funny I mean I'm a glob I got another [Music]

put it up on your Friday of Stowe Vermont challenged us to tape paper to

our front stop it one of the questions people always ask me is how did you

become a Zoomer it wasn't easy the first step was the auditions

the auditions resume were open that meant that any kid could come down to

the studios and try out in front of the cameras way over yonder by the Essequibo

River by the Essequibo River the little boy did Wiley and it's very

clever mother hundreds of kids showed up in show business they call this a cattle call at

auditions I was really really nervous like cuz you know there was like a lot

of people there and so I was very nervous and afraid I was at a cattle

call and I was kind of nervous because all these kids were there and we were talking to some and they were like we

were saying where are you from and they were like oh New York City and I was like oh every kid was given a number and

when your number was called you had a minute to tell an original story or a joke or a poem I'm sitting in a leather

chair in the dentist room the dentist smile clearly shows that awful word cop do I know he's liable to k*ll with that

big and ugly drill he's thinking hey after this my day will brighten while

I'm thinking I'm so afraid to maybe I should go and run when I hear okay all done

so I was wrong about the dentist now the doctors next on my list what is black

and white black and white URI three zebras fighting over a pickle a special

news report about hot chucked I'm a very outgoing person I like to go during the

winter many people drink hot choc but this year something dangerously strange is happening hot chocolate he's

very very hot I love baseball basketball volleyball and also acting acting acting

is my favorite like my favorite actor already been bumble bee tuna Jim Carrey

also my lucky number is three and when they gave you a number I was famous 233

Wow yeah and then I did a poem The Scream worm just cannot sit still he

never has and never will he's always jumping up and down and when

he's not he's turning around or somewhere standing on his heads or hiding under someone's bed he'll run

right up the stairs and then he'll turn and run right down again he'll hop and

skip and leap and twitch never stop to scratch it it's always moving always

busy watching him will make you dizzy

well I went to the cattle call and I made this friend his name was John and I

went into the room and they asked me how do you make friends I just made friends with Joe just looked before me he was in

the room with me he's like Oh John

I just met him and now we're pretty good friends my favorite is an Irish accent because if I don't know somebody they

actually believe that have Irish because I have the red hair and freckles to prove it I wasn't nervous the first few

times but on the last side they said I was like me I've gone this far and if I don't get it I'm gonna feel so bad

because I've gone so far Yankee Doodle

went to town riding on a pony stuck a feather in his that stuck a feather in

his hat stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni macaroni and after

like the first callback I started wearing like the same clothes cuz I thought it was I was lucky so I started

wearing the same clothes I said shirt the same jump the same overalls and everything and they kept calling back

well anyway they're sure to do this thing and they have music and everything and I'm like wow that's cool when I

found out I got it I went to my mother's job because she was opposed to be giving me money to go to the mall my cousin's so she was like do you want to go to the

mall and I was like yeah she was like why when you when I could be celebrating with my new little Zoomer oh she was

like releases the business place right then why'd you tell me

the very first time that we all got together as Umar's was not here in the studio but at Camp doom right look at

these there you are I can't zoom we did these really cool exercises with the staff we learned how

to work together as a team and we became friends finally it was the time for the big moment to come to the studio and get

ready to tape the show [Music]

ready three take three stand by to cue in the first few weeks of taping were probably the hardest there's this big

camera staring at you in the face and all these people you've just met giving you directions I remember I'm the first

thing that we didn't know is it was like so strange because it was here on the like in the bright place with all of you

guys there and then behind us was all black and like you couldn't see anything and you were just like oh what's back

there yeah like you know all eyes were on you it why do you think that is the first time you do it you're kind of nervous

and you don't really realize it but you're talking in front of like a whole bunch of cameras and like way in the

back there's like a whole bunch of people just staring and looking right at you and then when they say cut and

you're like oh gosh that was hard hey they always are like you need to be

yourself cuz that's of course like whoa you gotta be picked to be on the show and it's like but sometimes like like

they're like well you you're being yourself but you don't have enough energy so like put more energy into it

myself yeah more energy into it you know aside that so it was really hard to like be

yourself a lot of the time Danny Dooley loves the pool but hates water why do

you think that is I didn't pause sorry one like we first started taping like I

completely was like not myself at all because like all people up there just may be really nervous and they every

time I messed up I'm sorry here's a game called walk on your knees by John alum

st. lous I am so sorry sorry sorry okay

I'm all set all right I'm there I'm there the reason the paperwork expands is because the

water has no place to go so it's absorbed into the paper and the paper the paper oh my gosh do you know how

much I just messed that up today we're going to show you how to make a choice

[Music] but then I kind of no pressure I'm just

the last one but there is no pressure we've only been sitting here for an hour but there is no pressure on the last

didn't always go smoothly at first we always had lots of fun on the set I couldn't wait to come in every day and

get started the first stop every morning was hair and makeup

this is where we put on our clothing and

this is where we get beautified in here

five days a week we'd come to the studio and tape the segments for zoom you make

things play games tell jokes or perform plays it was a job but it felt more like

camp and all the adults in our crew were camp counselors hello KJ how are you

he's cool when you watch soom you don't

see all the people working behind the scenes like the camera people the producers the director everyone became a

friend they'd even play jokes on us we

play jokes on them too like once we had a nurse make us up with fake injuries

unfortunately we didn't fool anybody [Music]

sometimes we get really silly on the set like this time when we played concentration and we couldn't think of

any names we started using the names of the zoom staff

[Music]

[Laughter] [Music] everybody makes mistakes but did you

ever notice that when you watch zoom you very rarely see us make mistakes that's because a lot of the mistakes get edited

out of the show right but we didn't have too many mistakes anyway just a few oh just a few hey Jared what where the

sheeps go to get there what is it haircut it just hmm hey mr. bones yeah

mr. Jones what do you call a Sophie s of

Portsmouth New Hampshire sent us directions to how to make bubbles using foam hi cheese who can jump higher than

a skyscraper anybody sky cakes for edit

hey Zoey what kind of flowers do you have on your face

any dually loves oof if it doesn't like television you can also do this for the

balloon and the Barbie key Sakura take the barbecue skewer and poke it through the top of the balloon

it doesn't even pop and then put it through the other side now we're gonna

try it with straws they really look like worms so hon we'll just rip off the ends

then push it towards the center

congratulations Meredith you'll be receiving a summa laude certificate in the mail try this at home and see how

many seeds you can make to grow get to grow you can also use different type of season I don't know what I'm saying

does everyone see how many seeds you can get to grow pounds what kind of seed to use and if they turned into plants you

can even draw some pictures send em to zoom and show them later on down man yeah all right

when we were needed on the set there was a room just for the Zoomers called the

zoom zone the zoom zone was a place we

could go just to hang out read eat lunch or rehearse the zoom zone was also a

place where we could be wild and crazy

or dance the Spice Girls [Music]

and now the Zoomers present an original movie escape from the zooms own Don Tom

[Music]

[Music] i userís my security this is Elaine

upstairs umas have escaped [Music]

probably one of the funniest days on the set was when we taped little red riding-hood entirely in a be double aid

the narrator ELISA played Little Red

Riding Hood of course are you looking at Jared was the big bad wolf he looked

great in grandma's nightgowns a beef double wobbles a beats of a double rub

ed wait what just happened

and Pablo played the not too bright woodcutter actually my son plays a dumb

woodcutter but he's really brilliant I

just

[Music] that was like an inside joke on this set

Bob who plays a thumb woodcutter but he's really brilliant but one of my favorite inside jokes came from you me

right remember when we were playing that game called Ted body parts oh yeah

[Music] zowie David and I had to come up with

ten different body parts that had only three letters in them we got stuck until Zoe came to the rescue

so Tom Tom Tom your tummy that's one

it's not just not what are you crazy

what about your insides inside gut gut Scott no that's fellow - yes it's not for you

Tom is right okay let's think if there's

any other ones just in case gut or gut is right Tom is wrong your leg leg get

rid of Tom John and Tom is wrong guys

gut is right tom no check and check check check check

check check check you're obsessed with your tongue bark

what jesse tom is right I'd say that the

toughest part of zoom was taping the open to the show you mean come on in zoom come on and zoom bite we're not

singers or dancers so we had to go through a lot of preparation and practice first we had to record this

song and then rehearse the dance steps [Music]

zoom-zoom-zoom Izu come on come on and

Tim come on in zoom zoom zoom uh zoom

come on in zoom come on in - come on

zoom zoom is coffee - oh you're doing

the - in between come on come on come on

and sumo sumo zoom I assume we're

learning the dance today it's not all the time everybody just do

this when you get low get towards the

camera let's imagine that's the camera right there there's the camera right there I would like for you to like like

look right in the camera smile as you're doing it right and just keep going

towards the camera they get lower and more

so we're getting ready to sh**t the opening song without dancing it's used

for now we're finally taping the open

focus even if it gets crazy good gonna

do our IDs now okay like just just imagine that you're in a party and you're jamming all along with it and

then when it comes to your name you're like I'll pop it on and you keep going

work here's the way it finally came [Music]

first time we finally saw it on the air we are all together with our families and friends it felt really good

[Music]

we started treating each other like brothers and system with friends like

the next minute in the beginning these always to us we're trying to build a small community you know and things like

that what I think kids are gonna like about the show is we all get along very well and we listen to each other we help each

other out and we bond the show is very real I mean we've got a great mixture of

kids like like Keiko with braces and glasses like everybody's different yeah

we're all so different by different cultures yeah everything and it just

shows that people can like you know be together even if they're different [Music]

well that's it now you know what it's really like to be Zoomer we need you to play your part in the

making of zoom just by sending us your games videos ideas and whatever and just
