The blind auditions began
with our strongest talent ever.

Blake: The blind auditions
are just so exciting,

hearing all these great singers.

You have no idea what they look like.

That's my favorite part of "The Voice."

Daly: Their voices wowed our coaches.

Daly: And the teams of 16
started filling up.

Here's where our coaches stand.

Adam failed to score
a single artist last night,

leaving his team total at 2.

Blake picked up two artists,
bringing his total to 4.

Cee Lo scored one singer,
giving him a total of 3.

And Christina added two artists,
bringing her total to 4.

Christina: It's so amazing to be able to

accumulate such talent on my team

without being able to judge them

for anything other than
their actual voice.

Daly: Tonight, "The Voice"
premiere week continues.

The blind auditions continue right now.

As our coaches head for their chairs,

our first artist arrives
for his blind audition.

Samuel: My name is Samuel Mouton.

I'm 19 years old,
from Fort Collins, Colorado.

I've been singing my whole life,
since young toddler.

My dad and his brother

had a band together when I was younger,

and it was kind of like reggae.

I grew up watching them, and I
wanted to be a lot like my dad.

And my uncle even signed me up for this.

I'm really proud of him, you know?

I mean, he's been a loser forever,

and so this is, like, a major step.

My parents own two family restaurants.

And I'm a cook there.
I cook pizzas and wash dishes.

As much as I love to cook,

I don't want to do it
for the rest of my life.

Samuel: My parents did play
a lot of Bob Marley growing up.

That was huge to me,

and that's kind of the style
that I want to go for.

It's all about the love.

And I think that this show,
it's the perfect show for me

because I sound different than I look.

I just need to go k*ll it out there,

get one of them coaches
to turn around for me.

where our coaches are picking singers

based strictly on their voices.

Meet our next artist,
a former boy-band member

who's hoping for a second shot at stardom.

Hey, what's up. I'm Chris Trousdale.

I'm 26, and I'm from Big Rapids, Michigan.

I was always drawn to the arts,
even as a little kid.

Always, you know, hanging out,
just dancing,

and just watching Michael Jackson

and watching all these artists on TV.

I kind of bugged my mom,
you know, and dad,

just, "I want to do what they're doing."

When I was 13,

there was an audition for
a boy band called Dream Street

with Jesse McCartney.

After a while,
we started really, you know,

getting a following,
and we sold a million records

and toured, you know, around the country.

It changed my life.

After Dream Street broke up,

it's kind of hard to go
from all of that success

and doing what you love to do every day

to doing absolutely nothing.

Currently, I'm working
at a sushi restaurant,

and there will be a girl that'll be like,

"yo, I remember you from Dream Street."

And that's... that's really...
that's tough, you know?

It's hard to be serving somebody,

and she's like, "what are you doing here?"

"You were my idol.
I had you on my bedroom wall."

[ Voice breaking ]
Feeling this whole thing again over

just brings back so many memories

that I kind of thought
I would never find again

or have the opportunity
to do again, you know?

It's overwhelming.

I am just so in awe of my son, you know,

and how hard he's worked all these years,

being turned down sometimes five
and six times in one day,

so I'm very proud of him.

When I go out onstage today,

it's gonna be so different
than my past stage experiences,

because this is make it or break it.

This is crazy.

This is an opportunity of a lifetime.

I'm going to change my life
and my destiny.

Let's meet a young man from the east coast

whose roots stretch
across the Atlantic ocean.

Nelly's Echo: I am Nelly's Echo.

I'm 32 years old, and I am based
in Baltimore, Maryland.

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria.
I lived there until I was 16.

I left Nigeria because
of some political unrest,

which forced my family and I
to flee the country

because our lives were in danger.

We had to leave our father behind

because he was incarcerated
for something he did not do.

Yes, it was very scary.

When we arrived here in America,
we only had two suitcases

for my mother, myself,
and my three brothers.

But it seemed like as we walked
into the land of America,

I heard this distant voice saying,

"land of opportunities and dreams."

Music was definitely a big part
of the coping mechanism for us.

I remember my younger brothers and I

just singing positive music,
uplifting music

to help take the stresses off

that we were going through as kids.

It's amazing to see our journey since then

to where we are right now.

Our father, he's been
exonerated, and he's with us.

So, we're one big, happy family again.

- Hey, Carson Daly.
- Nelly's Echo, huh?

- Yes.
- Tell me about that name?

It's based off the premise
that music is a two-way street.

So, Nelly is me, the performer,

and Echo is the audience's
appreciation of the performance.

I want my music to inspire people

to becoming what they want to be in life.

But we're actually part of a family band.

People are used to me as a dancer,

but what people don't know
is that I have actually

been singing and dancing
since the age of 3.

So, to merge those two together
is, like, a powerful force.

And I feel like that
hasn't been really done yet.

As the day comes to an end,

our last artist makes her way
into the blind auditions.

Nicole: My name is
Nicole Nelson. I'm 34 years old.

And I live in what used to be
a shoe factory

in Burlington, Vermont.

I am a bit of a hippie.

I live with sort of a beautiful blend

of eclectic and talented artists.

And as a musician, I love it.

[ Laughs ]

I've been singing since I've been talking.

I didn't think I could do it
as a profession,

and then I went to an open-mike
jam, and people freaked out.

My father always said,
"either you're Whitney Houston"

"or you're a street peddler."

He was wrong, 'cause I've
been doing the in-between

for about 10 years now, and it's amazing.

I felt validated, 'cause
I always knew that I had a way

of communicating my feelings
through music.

It's just difficult
to make a lot of money.

I don't really sing very much in Vermont

because the music scene is not as big,

so I think "The Voice" is
my chance to get my voice heard

on the largest platform
that I could have ever imagined.

I feel, like, overwhelmed,

and I definitely feel all of my
emotions coming to the surface.

I've never had an opportunity
like this in my entire life,

and I don't think I ever will again.
