you this is the steadiness tester game

the idea was sent to us by an T of hawor

Woods Illinois first we'll show you how

to play the game and then we'll tell you

how we made it

okay let's start first you need to put

the aluminum foil loop around the coat

hanger and if the aluminum foil Loop

touches the coat hanger you'll complete

the circuit and the buzzer will go off

so you can start all right let's oh no

man nice try though oh good oh my

goodness oh I'm really bad at this Mike

you want to try wow I'll move the

battery all right here we

go okay keep it steady

whoa o really good oh you're going to

have to turn

it well that's really good it's really

hard oh jeez oh jeez please stop

shaking I don't think you can stop

it here's how you can make your own

setting this Tasker game take a coat

hanger the kind you can get out of dry

cleaners remove the

cardboard okay and unwind the wire

here's what it'll look like when it's

UNR now take a piece of sandpaper and

sand off the coating of the

hanger you want it to go from

gold to Silver this is so that

electricity can more easily pass from

The Hanger to anything metal that's

touching it it takes a while to sand it

off so I have one already done then make

three flat strips in a long Loop out of

aluminum foil like these using one of

the foil strips connect two D

batteries remember always to connect

positive to

negative the positive will always have a

little bump on the top and the negative

will always be

flat okay

okay so you want to always connect the

aluminum foil to the silver part cuz

that's the

metal now take a piece of carbon

board and tape the wire coat

hanger to the cardboard it's easier if

you have a long piece of tape

yeah all right now

attach the aluminum foil that leads to

the positive side of the battery to the

hanger you have to make sure that the

aluminum foil touches the metal

otherwise your circuit won't be

connected and the buzzer won't go off

all right now take the black wire of the

buzzer which is the negative wire and

attach it to the aluminum foil which

leads to the negative side of the

battery okay make sure the two metals

are

touching okay

okay all right now attach the aluminum

foil Loop to the positive end of the

buzzer again make sure the metals are

touching okay

okay good that's good now when the two

medals touch the circuit is completed

and the buzzer should go

off there we go funny the electricity

travels from the aluminum to the

battery to the wire to the buzzer and to

the loop now when the loop touches The

Hanger the circuit is connected and the

electricity sounds the

buzzer electricity can flow because all

the materials in the circuit are made of

metal the kinds of materials that allow

electricity to flow through them are

called

conductors now that you know more about

circuits because of the stetin tester

game make up your own game and send it

my name is po I'm 11 years old and I'm

from Pablo New

Mexico welcome to the PLO

p a PLO is like a tribe it is a group of

Native Americans that live on their own

land with their own government our PLO

the Paka PLO is over 2,000 years old we

have 13,000 th acres of

land there are 345 tribal members a

tribal member is someone who was born

into the

PLO art is an important part of our

culture my dad is an artist he makes

sculptures out of

stone one of my dad's favorite

sculptures is this one of a buffalo was

carving this when you're a little baby

boy I think I remember finishing you

finishing

it the

eyes our people used to hunt the Buffalo

because they needed food shelter and

clothing Buffalo were extinct from our

land for over 200 years today our herd

has over 20 Buffalo and they run freely

over a 5 mile circle of

land Every Spring we a few new caps born

this is the first Buffalo that was born

on the Our Land his name is Easter and

he's 6 years

old the Buffalo dance is to honor the

animal for giving it life so the PLO

people could survive

during the dance us boys wear a buffalo

headdress and the girls wear dresses

that have PLO symbols on

them I think it's important to preserve

our history and our dances and our

ceremonies because if I have children my

children might want to know what it's

like so it won't be lost forever I'm

very proud of the repo culture that I've

been born into and if you ever in

Northern New Mexico come visit it

cultures race and your background my

background is Haitian but I was born in

the United States Haiti's official

language is French but most people there

speak the common language Creole I think

culture and background are important in

Guatemala but I'm also from Columbia

like some of my culture andol I brought

in this flag that's the Colombian flag

the yellow symbolizes gold which is have

a lot of gold I know that's why they put

it there as in double the size of the

other colors blue is for the oceans that

we have then the Seas and all the

beaches we have and red is for the blood

of people who fought in the w*r for

independence so I thought that was cool

to listen have you ever lived in

Guatemala or Colombia um I have lived in

Guatemala um and I came to USA when I

was two oh so you live there for a few

years M and that's cool I haven't

visited Columbia yet but I will soon and

I'm I'm going to visit guatemal again

soon cool well I'm Finnish I my

great-grandmother was born in Finland

and she she lived like almost most of

her life there and then she had uh her

daughter and a brother and they moved to

United States and I've I'm born in the

United States and uh this is called a

vampu cool and and it's finished for

like back scrub thing you can you use it

in something called a SAA and a saa's

like you know how you know steam baths

and you go in there and in this Steam

and you use this vampo to uh wash other

people's backs and and kind of kind of

like something

like and it's really cool my great

grandma talks in Finnish all the time

like she'll start talking in English and

then she'll go off and talk in Finnish

she's like she's like well hello and

then she like and I'll be like hello

it's really cool I am Argentinian and

I'm also Brazilian and I brought in

matate a traditional kind of tea and

this is the little cup that you hold it

in that's cool and this is the straw

it's it's kind of a word straw and then

this is the actual mate the and it's

tradition in Argentina that whenever you

like have mat everybody gets in a circle

um and you pour it in then like one

person would drink it and then pour a

little bit more hot water and then the

next person drink do you were you born

in Argentina um no I I've visited

Argentina pretty a lot of times in

Brazil I've only visited twice that's so

cool really cool okay this is a

traditional Taiwanese Buddha awesome and

it represents my Chinese culture but

like there are Chinese Buddhas but this

one's Taiwanese I like awesome and for

most Christians when you like pray to

God this is kind of like for most Asians

you pray to Buddha that's cool I went to

Taiwan two years ago for 3 weeks and we

went to a temple and there like there

was a huge statue of ab Buddha and

everybody just sat down and they just

had a moment of silence it was really

cool that's awesome awesome yeah I think

that's really cool that there so many

different backgrounds and cultures come

together to form the US like there

really is no typical US citizen the

Native Americans they they've been here

and they were here they were here even

before us before everybody got together

here and that's why they got their name

Native Americans because they're native

to the Americas cuz all different uh

like cultures came together onto the us

but the native Americans

already a place where there are

stbridge I volunteered by raising money

for a tortoise named Franklin he was

living in an animal sanctuary in

Charlton but now he is on his way to

Texas where he'll have plenty of room to

dig and roam I have always wanted to

help animals so last summer I decided to

raise money for them by having a

laminated stand it took 4 days but I was

able to raise

$19 this will buy Franklin lots of his

favorite food lettuce did you know that

tortoises live for more than a hundred

years do you voler in your community if

you do you're already a member of the

it this is a chain reaction machine the

kids at The Horseman Elementary School

in Newton Massachusetts built it to

power their machines these use things

like helium

balloons action figures and even cat C

up we've decided to design and build a

chain reaction machine at Zoom there are

only a few rules the Chain Reaction

machine can't use plugin electricity but

batteries are okay and it can't use more

than one cup of water but it can use

things that the horeman school use like

dominoes falling marbles magnets mouse

traps and of course

gravity each link must begin and end

with the pull of a string this way when

we finish building our links we can

connect them with the string so that way

the action of one link will help the

action of the other link go the kids at

the horse man school told us that the

easiest way to build a chain reaction

machine is if each link is built using a

wooden frame we had an adult help us

build ours here's how we're going to

build our links shinging and Courtney

are going to team up Mike estuardo and

Caroline are going to work together and

delini and I are going to pair up we're

going to be using all of these materials

to build our links guys let's start

designing

all right let's go over here and let's

okay do you have the remote control

cards or anything I'll go get a tube

yeah grab a tube let's use this for now

okay we have to start by yanking

something so do we have any

string so maybe we can tie some of it to

the top of that if we pull the string

then it could be then lift up yes and

the mar we could have like a little

piece of cardboards and the Marvel could

roll down like hit dominoes or something

yeah yeah okay all right so let's I'm

going to go find that uh a piece of

cardboard why don't you just try to

start setting up where the tube is going

to go do we have string yep so let's

just do one second time so it goes there

yeah it that

works I think it works there we go and

then this will be tied and it'll be like

this and then the marble would roll okay

but we have to get a track

yeah a platform for so the marble sit

that way the marble won't go like you're

right well say a weight is attached to

this oh and then as this drags it down

it can connect and then it might break

the weight off so it pulls down but I'm

trying to I don't think we'll be able to

do that like you know when if

something's heavy and this you pull it

it goes back cuz it's heavier yeah you

could make it blow this over and that

okay maybe if we had oh look it's it's

moving did it do it yeah so let's see

let's try to do it again and then we'll

pull the string and then the will go go

the marble fall through our paper okay

and that'll start the training Rea okay

so let's see and then once the weight

grabs it will pull it up oh it's

lifting yes yes it works good J yes if

you just put the cup there and you have

a stand and you turn this on it

moves oh my goodness these are going to

take us a really long time to build so

we'll show you what we come up with on

another day in the meantime get a group

of friends your scout troop or your

class together and build your own Chain
