I loved how tightly knit

My favorite part
is vocal production

and adding all of these
layers, and that's like my dream.

When you guys started, I was
so surprised in the best way,

all of the ideas
popping into my head.

I was thinking that,

singing with my family in Ohio,

and gospel choirs my
whole youth. That's true.

And so I've always loved

what harmonies can do
when they're done right.

I also thought of different

but first time I ever did a
gig was when I was in my 30s.

So I'm just really
happy to be here.

My name is Katie
Rae, I am 35 years old,

and I'm from
Sacramento, California.

I met my husband in
eighth grade at a water park,

and he asked me to go
on the Master Blaster,

which was a two-person ride.

We were together ever since.

Oh, my goodness. We've
been married for 13 years.

And finally I got pregnant.

I was so excited, but I didn't
have the easiest pregnancy.

It was very sick the whole time.

And then after having my son,

my husband was on cloud nine.

I was so happy to meet my son.

But I felt off.

I had postpartum depression.

I didn't feel like I was
connecting with him.

I didn't know if my son...

knows that I love him, you know?

My husband, he would be like,
"Look, look at these pictures.

You're showing him all the love.

You're doing all
the things you need."

I didn't feel it.

Postpartum isn't a thing that a
lot of women like to talk about.

Slowly we worked on it,

and I came out a better person.

My son has changed
my life for the better.

Even though I went through
that really dark time in my life,

music really helped
me through it.

I was listening to Maren
Morris, the song "Girl."

It just spoke to me.

"Get out of your head.
You got this," you know?

I listened to, like, that
whole CD after that.

I'll be singing "The
Bones" by Maren Morris.

The lyric that speaks to me is,

"When the bones are
good, the rest don't matter."

You got to have
that solid structure.

Like my family...
Super grateful for them.

a very early age,

Ever since that day, that's
what I want to do in my life.

When I was a little
kid, like 4 years old,

And so that's when I
ordered him the little white suit.

Once I got to high school,

I started a band
called Twelve Fifty Five.

We played all types of music,

like doo-wop, soul music, funk,

and, um... and rock 'n' roll.

I have an old soul, and I
want to be singing that music

and bringing that back
to the next generation.

But I've never in my life have
had this great of an opportunity

to really showcase who
I am as an entertainer.

An old friend of mine
who's passed away now,

Mae Boren Axton,
wrote that song.

Wow. That was my
introduction to the music industry.

I think you just

from a musical family.

Before I was born, my mom
was a background vocalist

for some of Motown's
greatest artists.

Lydia: My career
started singing behind

Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye.

And then at 36, I hung up the
hat because I became a mom.

Jonathan: My mom started
working as a vocal coach,

and I really stepped
into, I want to be a singer.

Middle school and high school,

I was performing in school
plays and talent shows.

After high school, I was
fortunate enough to land a role

in a "Glee" tribute
show in Japan.

It was like boot camp for me.

I was starting to support
myself from just money

that I was making gigging.

You know, you
always think that things

are gonna go
according to your plan,

but then the universe
comes and says,

"It's not your plan."

In 2014, I looked in the mirror

and it was a lump that I
noticed on the side of my neck,

and after biopsy and removal,

they saw that it was a
cancerous, um, growth.

The physician told me
that it was stage four

and, "Your son needs
chemo yesterday."

We just held each
other and... and cried.

Jonathan: I had to
receive chemotherapy.

I am in complete and total pain.

You know, my hair's coming
out. I'm shivering, losing weight.

And I remember telling my
mom like, "I can't do this."

I had to say to Jonathan,
"Are you ready to die?"

And I said, "If you want
to live, you gotta fight."

Jonathan: That conversation
gave me so much strength.

I was forced to
think about survival.

As of now, it's five years
completely cancer-free.

Jonathan, because you
have been such a warrior...

this is the gift.

I collected all of
the pictures I took

before you went in and
when you were at home,

when you were in the hospital,

and when we finally got the
news that you were cancer-free.

I'm just overwhelmed.

looking at, like, my life

from the beginning up until now.

the unconditional love
and sacrifices that...

my parents have made.

He passed away in 1988,

We sent in a video for a

and we actually won,

I'm in my master's right now,

a little nervous

because outside of playing
for just friends and family,

my blind audition will
be my first real gig.

So this is kind of
a crazy day for me.

I'm Jack Rogan,
I'm 18 years old,

and I'm from
Rochester, New York.

I have five siblings.

It goes all the way
from my little brother,

who is 12, to my
oldest brother, who's 30.

My siblings were definitely
my best friends growing up.

I was probably 12 or 13

when my brothers taught
me how to play guitar.

It was just kind of
like an exhale for me

at the end of the day.

Growing up, we spent
a lot of time at camp

up in the Adirondacks,

and so every week,
they would do a party.

And my dad was like, "Oh,
you should play for them."

And I sang for all these adults

at a party I wasn't
even supposed to be at.

Everybody just
got, like, really quiet.

It really created a
turning point in me

realizing that I had this gift.

My full-time job right now
is I work at a nursing home,

and there's a grand piano,
so I just play a few songs

and it's like I have 100
different grandma and grandpas,

which is really cool.

But I haven't put myself
out there musically

because I just didn't
really know the next step.

it's just something that I
wanted to push myself to do

because I'd love to be able
to make a living out of music.

I am 27 years old,

originally from the Philippines,

and I currently live
in Beaumont, Texas.

I am a registered nurse
in our oncology unit.

I come from a
long line of nurses.

My grandmother was
the pioneer, then my mom,

my dad, and now me.

A lot of the patients
are terminally ill.

At those vulnerable moments,

usually open up and sing to
them when I know that they need it.

To be able to help people
with the healing process,

it's just very rewarding.

I was born in the Philippines.

I was 12 years old when
I moved here in the U.S.

I was a little bit
fluent in English,

mainly because my mom and dad

would always play
rock 'n' roll music,

and that's how I kind of grasped
how to pronounce simple words.

Every Filipino loves to sing

whether they can
hit those notes or not.

At every Filipino event,

we would always
have a karaoke party.

And with that, I was
able to discover that,

"Hey, I can actually sing."

Watching "The Voice," I
never thought that, you know,

I'd be on the actual
show performing.
