felt more rehearsed and more
comfortable and more confident

That's when it kind of
got a little bit misdirected.

But people back home, when they're
watching on their couch on TV,

they're gonna know you guys
put in the work, and that matters.

Dude, I can't believe we're still
in high school and on "The Voice."

Yeah, and we're about to graduate
in a couple months.

Being on "The Voice"...
Literally the biggest thing

-we've ever done in our lives.
-Yeah.

I mean, we're just...
we're just 17 years old.

[Justin] The blind audition,
it was just pretty much magical.

I absolutely love your enthusiasm.

I was really moved by it.

The first time
I heard you guys harmonizing,

I was like, "We gotta turn around.
This sounds amazing."

-We got the chair for you and everything.
-We got just the chair for you!

Oh, my God. They're built for this.

This is our school's band room
where all the magic happens.

-And we get to play with celebrities now.
-Wait, is this going on TV?

-Jeremy and Justin are gonna win it!

We started as musicians, actually,

so I played piano,
and Justin played guitar.

We grew our musicality
through instruments.

[Justin] Picking Dan and Shay,
it was a great choice for us.

As a duo, they know how it sounds

to harmonize
and to work with other people.

-And we're gonna k*ll it out there.
-We're gonna k*ll it. [laughs]

[Shay] I'd say for you, Frank, like,
when you first come in...

I love Lady Gaga, ever since I was little

in my little closeted little moment.

And I feel like this opportunity,

especially this song and the artist,

with these coaches,
has really motivated me

to push more of who I am
and be proud of that.

Because at the end of the day,
I was born to be here, you know?

I was able to get accepted
into Columbia University,

and moving to New York City,

and I started singing around New York
with my a cappella group

and started to experiment more
with other genres.

Before then, I was singing mariachi music.

So, this is all very new to me,
singing all these different genres.

by your performance.

Anytime anybody chooses

they're professionals at trying to, like,

mix different genres together.

Whatever they choose to do
with me and my talent,

it's gonna be great.

Like, my heart was racing so fast.

I was like, "What is happening?
How is Reba just right there?"

[William] With my coach Reba, I mean,

it was so emotional during blinds.

We shared an amazing moment together.

Chance and Reba, they both turned for me.
It was crazy.

I was actually singing it
for my grandfather,

who passed away last year,

and he always said that he believed in me,

and it's just crazy being here now.

You're gonna have somebody

Now I'm getting choked up,

and I'm gonna have to
start talking very high.

[William] What excites me most
about Reba is that

she's just so versatile,

and she's been
on so many different stages.

She's been on Broadway.
She's done country.

She's done R & B. She's done soul.

She just knows everything about music.

-Oh, my gosh. Still crazy. Like, whoa.
-[chuckles]

What have y'all been doing
since I saw you last?

Well, for me, I mean,
I've had a few downs.

Like, I lost my job after the audition,

but I wasn't really sad about it
'cause you blessed me.

-Aw! [chuckles]
-I'm here now, so, like, I love it.

Right after high school,
I was working in the medical field.

Eventually, I quit and became a nanny.

Kind of gave me a little more freedom
to work on music.

I always wanted to sing,

and I wanted that to be my everyday job.

My mom, she's been by my side

throughout everything I've been through

and made me who I am today.

My mom, she had a lot of different jobs.

Just being a single mom,
working hard to give me everything.

We're so proud of you,
and just remember how amazing you are.

[Zeya] Blinds were absolutely crazy.

When Reba turned her chair for me,

I couldn't believe it.

I never thought that I'd be working
with the queen of country music.

It was just a moment where I realized
that I was supposed to be on that stage.

Well, I am a firm believer
that timing is everything,

-and everything happens for a reason...
-[Zeya] Yes.

-...so here you are.
-[Zeya] So am I.

And I went to college,

and somebody heard me
sing the national anthem

at the National Finals Rodeo
in Oklahoma City.

That was December '74,

and '75, October,
I had a recording contract.

-That's amazing.
-And you're the best.

-Oh, my gosh. This is crazy. Oh, my gosh.
-[laughs] You're so cute.

[Reba] I paired William and Zeya together

I put 'em together
because they are like voices,

very soft, very sweet,

and I thought they would
complement each other.

[Reba] William's 16 years old.

He's such a great vocalist,

and his voice is going to mature,
and there's no telling what it's gonna be.

[Reba] Zeya has a wonderful,
beautiful voice.

It's more mature. She's more focused.

She knows what she can do.

She's more of a seasoned singer.

My big deal in my concerts...

You've got to hone in on emotions.

The thing that is most important to me

is to connect with your audience.

And so, eyes open
when they need to be and hone in on me.

-I'm your audience right now.

Hone in on me,
but when you guys sing together,

that eye contact's got to mean something.

You got to feel it when she's looking
at you and vice versa.

they mean a lot to me,

because we all have scars on our hearts

that make us who we are.

Growing up, I was always "the Indian kid."

Kids made me feel so left out
just because I was Indian.

And you know, to some,
I was the smart Indian kid.

To others, I was the funny Indian kid.

It was always just me trying
to fit into, like, this mold.

I don't know. It felt like
I was being someone who I wasn't.

[William] Once I found music,
it was like everything changed,

and I was able to be myself,
and I never want to stop singing.

-That was so much better!

-I felt that one.
-I felt it myself.

When you pick a song, you know,
you... you want something

with a lot of range in it,
and this song has it.

And then you hope and pray

that they've got the range
to hit it and to sing it.

And the second time they sang it through,

it was a totally different song.

open up more vocally,

but that's going to happen
as you get older.

was a little bit more in your range,

but you guys met in the middle
and did an incredible performance.

You could tell it was
choreographed and rehearsed.

Since my mom was born
and raised in Jamaica

and my dad came from England,

that would make me
a first-generation American.

They have sacrificed so much
to meet all of my heart's desires.

They are my number one supporters,

so I'm excited to have them

When I do these pairings, I know
they call it the battles, but it's not.

To me, it's about
creating a memorable duet moment

that people will want to watch
and want to listen to over and over again.
