as lucky as we are.

are deaf, and they can't hear.

for them to get around, huh?

amazed at how well they do.

people get around,

so I invited Christa

- Christa here is a guide
dog trainer, isn't that right,

Christa?

- That's absolutely
right, Miss Molly.

- Christa, this
morning we played pin

the tail on the donkey.

And we had
to be blindfolded.

- And then we got
to thinking if it's so hard

for us to pin that
silly tail on a donkey,

it must be really
hard for blind people

to get around every day.

- Well, a visually
impaired person can get along

just fine with the
assistance of another person,

a cane,
or a guide dog like Sonny.

- How does the guide dog know
where the people want to go?

- Well, that's a
good question, Loli.

We spend a lot
of time training these dogs,

so they become
very bright, loyal,

and trusted guides
for the people who are blind.

Our guide dog owners
learn how to give special

commands to the dog,
so the dogs know where to go.

- Well, Sonny, looks like
you got a lot of work to do.

- She sure does.

So when you see a guide dog,
don't pet it or distract it.

It's working.

As a matter of fact,
we have to get back to school

so Sonny can learn
a bit more about being

the perfect guide dog.

way of printing so that blind

their sense of touch to read.

- Louis Braille was
a little French boy,

who at the age of three
lost his sight in an

unfortunate accident
in his father's workshop.

Okay kids, gather round.

Kenya's going
to read us a story.

At the age of 12,
Louis met a man by the name

of Charles Barbier,
who invented something called

"night writing."
Night writing was a special

code that used
raised bumps on paper to

communicate top-secret
messages on the b*ttlefield.

- My father likes horses.

I think
he should ride them.

- Louis decided to take
the night vision premise

and simplify
it from 12 bumps to 6.

This is when the
Braille technique was born.

- He found
a woman that knew where to go.

He went to a farm and
he saw a cow and a brown horse.

- By the age of 15,
Louis Braille published

his first Braille book.

And now blind people all over
the world use Braille to read.

- The people gave him
a ride on the brown horse.

He really liked it.

♪ His invention
was brilliant and inspired. ♪

And you get to put creamy
vanilla ice cream on them.

- Zippy, the object of
the game is to guess what

the yummy food
that smells good too is by

smelling it
with a blindfold on.

- Oh, so there's no
donkey in this game?

- Hm, no donkeys, Zippy.

- Yeah, there are no
donkeys, but there is a--

[GASP]

- The answer is peanut butter.

- Okay contestants.

three seconds to smell

the yummy food

But don't
yell out your answer,

because you'll need
to use your third sense hearing,

by listening
for this special sound.

When you hear that sound,
you'll then need to use your

sense of touch by hitting
the buzzer in front of you.

a politician I once knew.

you have to be the first
to touch the buzzer and give

the answer.

I would say he's doing fine.

We got a little worried
when he started turning colors.

Now I don't have
to feel guilty about being

the Challenge
Your Senses champion.

- Doodles.

- What?

I won, didn't I?

- Well if you call beating a
Kwirk with allergies a victory,

well then
let's say yah you won.

- Well, I don't
know about you all,

but there's one sense
I haven't used enough of today.

- Let me guess.

Common sense.

- No, professor sarcasm, taste!

And right about now,
I'd like to be tasting a nice

slice of pepperoni pizza.

Extra cheese,
hold the anchovies.

- Mmm!

I can almost smell
the crust myself, doodles.

- Yah, sometimes you
can imagine something as if

your senses were
actually experiencing it, yah!

- Well, you
can all imagine it.

I prefer the real thing.

- Hey Eeky, why do
some foods taste so good

and others taste so yucky?

- Our sense of taste
is controlled by our tongues.

And on our tongues are these
little bumps called taste buds.

- Taste buds?

flowers on our tongue?

Taste buds are not
quite as pretty as flowers.

But they do send signals
to the brain to tell us whether

something is sour
or bitter, salty or sweet yah!
