Let The Nightingale Sing

Shh.
Doc's reading.

Oops, sorry.

Shush!
Shush!

Stuffy, quiet.

[ shouts ]
I'm being quiet!

Doc,
what are you reading about?

The great
Florence Nightingale.

[ squeals ]

Only my favorite lady
in the world,

besides you, Doc.

Scooch over,
I want to read with you.

Shush-shh!

Oh, shush yourself, Stuffy.

My feet honk,
I can't help it.

[ giggles ]
Stuffy.

Shh!

Oh,
you just shushed Doc.

Oh, yeah.

[ chuckles ]

Sorry.

Doc, why is Florence Nightingale
so great?

Well, she was
the first real nurse.

Before Florence Nightingale,
nurses weren't trained.

But she changed that
and started a school

to teach them what to do.

I wouldn't be the hippo
I am today without her.

She taught nurses
all over the world

how to take great care
of their patients.

I want to hear about her.
Read to us.

Well, when she was young,
Florence lived in England.

Oh, I love England.

Been there a million times.

Oh, really?

Yeah,
you go past the park,

take a left,
then take your first right

and England's right
somewhere around there.

You can't miss it.

Stuffy,
England is a country

that's across the ocean
from us.

And by go-past-the-park,
that's what I meant.

I say,

did I hear you talking about
dear old England?

My homeland.

Well, technically

the toy store on Main Street
is my homeland,

but, ha-ha,
you know what I mean.

Anyway, Florence lived there
a long time ago.

Like, almost 200 years ago.

It was really different
than today.

There were no cars
or telephones

or electricity.

That's why Florence was known
as the Lady with the Lamp.

She had to use
one of these

to look in on her patients
at night.

I sure wish
I could have met her.

Let's see if you can.

Well, how is that possible?

Oh, you never know
what you can do

with a little magic.

[ all gasp ]

[ all exclaiming ]

By Jove, where are we?
Now I know I'm seeing things.

Where are we?
So that just happened.

[ gasps ]
Oh my gosh!

It worked!

We're in the past.

STUFFY: In England?

HALLIE: 200 years ago?

DOC: I think so.

'Tis England.

Why, I'd know it anywhere.

I'm going to
kiss the ground.

Not actually as good an idea
as it might at first seem.

Hah!

Nice clothes.

Speak for yourself.

My hat is growing.

That's a top hat,
Chilly.

That's what gentlemen wore
in the 1800s.

Oh.

[ chuckles ]

And I guess
gentle-snowmen, too.

Oh, look!

My dress is baa-eautiful!

Mine too.

What in the waltzing walrus
am I wearing?

That's an old-fashioned
nurse's uniform.

Oh, I knew I liked it.

[ all giggle ]

Oh, look.

A horse and carriage.

And it's coming right at us.

Look out!

Oh, no!

Feet not moving.

Wait.
Don't have feet.

[ shouting ]

Chilly!

He's gone.

No wait.

It's stopping.

Someone's getting out.

[ gasps ]
'Tis a lady.

I don't care
if it's the Queen of England.

Y'all better go
stuffed now.

I heard
someone calling out.

Is everything all right?

No.

Actually, I lost my stuffed toy
under your carriage.

Oh, dear!

That's terrible.

Oh, there he is.

I'm terribly sorry.

We didn't see him.

I know
you didn't mean it.

But he's going to be hard
to reach.

Well, we're not going to
let that stop us, are we?

You saved him.

I did,

but I'm sorry to say
he's very messy.

He sure is.

You'll just have
to come to my house

to get him cleaned up

no for an answer.

Nightingale.

We can't believe it's you.

And by "we,"
I mean me.

And, of course,
you're you.

Who else would you be?

Oh, I'm Doc.

Doc McStuffins.

What an unusual name.

Well, then, Doc McStuffins,

let's get this toy
cleaned up, shall we?

We shall, indeed.

I'll get some soap and be back
before you know it.

Wow!

Is this a real life castle?

No.
It's Florence's house.

It's baa-eautiful.

I can't believe

I'm in the house of
Florence Nightingale.
