02x01 - Episode 1

Post by bunniefuu »

[kid breathing heavily]

[slow footsteps]

Yamaga Great Desert

[soft gasp]

[wind gusting]

[soft gasp]

[grandfather] You
know our story.

Long ago, the terrifying True
Demon King came to this land.

[kid] Mm-hm.

On that day, the entire
population of Itarky was k*lled.

Our people were blessed,
though, and survived.

[grandfather] The Great Particle
Storm protected our village.

- [kid breathing heavily]
- [♪ sacred mysterious music playing]

[breathing heavily continues]

What is that… light
coming from Itarky?

[kid] The Great Particle Storm is
a god and not just a bunch of wind?

It is both.

God's power manifested in this
world as a weather phenomenon.

And we call it the
Great Particle Storm.

That god continues
to protect us,

people of the Yamaga
Great Desert, to this day.

[kid] Okay, but are you sure the
Storm is gonna keep us safe forever?

Even someone like me?

I can't even work now
that I've injured my leg.

[mother] Outside of our village,
many people worship a different god.

One they call "the Wordmaker."

But that god didn't protect them
from the True Demon King, did it?

Think about what that means.

Our god is far
stronger than theirs.

[kid] So, would you be scared

if the Great Particle
Storm welcomed you one day?

No, not in the slightest.

It took my older brother
and older sister.

In the end, many go to the
country beyond the storm.

What's it like there?

[mother] It's a paradise.

A hallowed place god created to deliver
us from this harsh, dry country.

People there live together
in peace and abundance.

- [heavy breathing]
- [wind gusting]

[surprised gasp]

That's the burial mound.

[grunts] The one
dedicated to the storm.

[wind howling]

[breathing heavily]

[soft gasp] Huh?

- [♪ tense sting]
- [shocked gasp]

[♪ ominous music playing]

[frightened breathing]

- [squelches]
- [gasps]

[♪ eerie choir music playing]

No, no, no!

- [rumbling]
- [gasps]

[kid breathing heavily]

[kid] No.

[♪ eerie choir music playing]

[kid groans]

But she said that…

No, not in the slightest.

It took my older brother
and older sister.

In the end, many go to the
country beyond the storm.

[shaky breath] Someone, help.

- [wind gusting]
- [gasps]

[straining]

[kid] Please. I'm sorry.

[frightened,
struggled breathing]

[scared gasp]

- [yelps]
- [zaps]

Forgive me.

[groans]

[zapping]

- [♪ music intensifies]
- [grunts]

[in weak voice]
I didn't mean to…

[wind howling]

[narrator] The True
Demon King has died.

The enemy of the world, that
filled the horizon with fear,

was defeated by an unknown Hero.

To this day, powerful beings still
walk the world in great numbers.

Unable to be subdued
with ordinary strength,

these demons are known as shura.

And so, the people seek a True Hero,
one who will bring peace to the world.

It is now time for such
a champion to be chosen.

Episode 13 Mele
the Horizon's Roar

Sine Riverstead

[♪ calm music playing]

[kid panting]

[kid] Wake up, Mele!

It's already past noon!

[groans] Quiet down, will ya?

Bother someone
else, you damn brat.

So you can lie here
like a deadbeat?

You can't just sleep all day!

[Mele chuckles]
What's your problem?

All right, let me guess.

You've been fighting
with your dad again.

- [kid] No! Where's your bow?
- Huh?

[kid] These idiots in the village
won't stop making fun of me,

but I'm gonna show those guys.

I'll prove I can pull
back this bowstring.

They won't laugh at me again.

[struggled grunting]

[struggled grunting continues]

[grunting] Dang it!

- [exclaims]
- [body thuds]

- [laughing]
- [sighs]

Give it up already.

You're too young to be throwing
out your back, pipsqueak.

Your bow's impossible,
no one can use it.

Not true. I can.

You wish.

You're huge, but it's
not like you ever train.

I bet you've never
even used this thing!

[Mele scoffs] You've got a
lot of nerve, don't you, boy?

[kid] I just don't want
you to get slaughtered.

Mele, you're going to enter
those Royal Games, aren't you?

Sure am.

It'll be no sweat.

[kid] But that Rosclay guy
will be in Aureatia too.

And Toroa the Awful.

He's like the evil
monster in a scary story.

You've got no chance
of beating those two!

- [rumbling]
- [Mele] Don't be ridiculous.

I'm the strongest there is.

[kid] You're a lazy
bum who naps all day.

Rosclay is definitely
stronger than you!

[Mele] Even if you don't
think I can beat him,

you should root for me.

If I win, I'll be rich,

and we can repair the village
from all those lightning strikes.

Even replace the
watermill out west!

[thundering laughter]

Somebody who's already spent their
prize money is never gonna win.

Well… You should at least make
sure nobody breaks your dumb bow!

You cheeky little pest.

That's enough.

You should be heading on home.

It'll be raining before long.

[kid] What? The
sky's clear though.

You just can't see the
clouds in the distance.

[Mele] Looks like we'll have
a storm again this year.

[wind howling]

[soft rumbling]

Hmm.

[rumbling]

[loud rumbling continues]

[Mele grunts]

[bow squeaking]

[squeaking continues]

[loud rumbling]

- [soft grunt]
- [loud rumbling]

[Mele] There.

- [expl*si*n]
- [rumbling]

[laughing]

[Mele] All right then.

[Mele yawns] Time for bed.

[Mele sighs]

- [kids panting in distance]
- [groans]

[kid 1 breathes heavily] Look,
we made it to Needle Forest!

[kids panting]

[kid 2] Hey! Don't fall asleep.

[kid 3] We're right beside you.

It doesn't hurt much,
does it? [groans]

[kids panting]

Hey, Mele!

[kid 1] We brought Ilieh.

She says she wants to see you.

[Mele] As if I could
tell you brats apart.

Can't a guy rest in peace?

[pants] Shut up!

The reason we had to come so late is
'cause she doesn't have much time left.

Aren't you supposed to
be her friend? You jerk!

[Mele] Is this really goodbye?

[emotional choking]

Such weaklings.

[frustrated sigh] Why aren't
you minians built tougher?

- [Ilieh] Mele…
- [gasps]

I'm so glad you're awake.

[Mele] I, uh, couldn't sleep.

I was over here counting my
beard hairs like they were sheep.

[Ilieh grunts weakly]

[Ilieh] I wanted to say that…

- I'm grateful.
- [kids sobbing]

Our time together
was so much fun.

Is that right?

[Mele] Glad you think so.

[sobbing]

- [yelps]
- [Mele] Well…

Seeing as how you're
about to bite it…

Guess I'll grant
your last request.

Go on. Speak up.

[Ilieh] Thank you.

Then I… I wanna see
the stars like before.

Oh, yeah?

One last ride on my shoulder?

[Ilieh] I love this village
and I love the stars.

They're just so pretty.

- [thundering laughter]
- [grunts]

If you like the stars,
then I'll sh**t down some.

Decorate your grave with them.

[Mele] If anybody else wants to
take in the view, now's your chance.

I wanna go!

Of course I do.

Take me too.

Yeah, I figured as much.

It'll look like the
stars are close.

But you won't know if you
can grab one unless you try!

[kids gasping in awe]

[groans]

[Mele] Okay.

- [insects chirping]
- [kid] Hey, Dad.

Why is Mele going
to the Royal Games?

Fair question.

[father] The truth is Mele
didn't choose to enter himself.

It was the people of the village
who decided he'd compete.

[kid] They're making him go?

You don't know this,

but your friend Mele has
never left Sine Riverstead.

What? Seriously?

[father] He's spent his
life sleeping on that hill,

sh**ting down wyverns for food.

You see, Mele isn't
like other Gigants.

Most of them spend
their days on the road.

Doesn't he wanna
visit somewhere else?

Probably, yes.

That's why we're
pushing him to travel.

At least for a little while.

Yeah, but, Dad!

Rosclay's competing
at the games.

Nobody in the
world can beat him!

Hmm…

This might be difficult
for you to believe, son,

but trust me, Mele
is very strong.

Like how strong?

It was about eight years ago…

[people groaning]

[father] Remember how the Demon King Army
almost marched all the way to our village?

[kid] Kind of. I think.

[father] You were still
small, crying all the time.

I was terrified for us.

And yet…

The Sine Riverstead
remained untouched.

Mele stood on top of
his hill every day.

Towering over the
Demon King Army.

The look in his eyes
was so fearsome.

He never had to
fire a single arrow.

[kid] You mean, that they never attacked
'cause they were so scared of Mele?

[father] Amazing, right?

Our Mele is a powerful warrior.

One who stood against
the True Demon King.

And still, always makes time
to play around with you kids.

He protects us.

All while keeping our children
and village entertained.

[father] And despite
everything he does for us,

the only thing we can offer
him as a show of our thanks

is two iron arrows every year.

Then, do you think that
Mele can beat Rosclay?

[father] Of course.

[surprised gasp]

But… hold on.

He's never shot his bow.

Not once my whole life.

- [sighs] You just haven't been looking.
- Hmm?

- [window slides open]
- [father] Come.

You've got a clear view tonight.

A sh**ting star… [soft gasp]

Are you saying…

- [thundering boom]
- [father] Yes.

Those arcs of light in the night
are clay arrows made of Craft Arts.

He fires them across the sky at such
speed that the clay itself is set ablaze.

Amazing.

[kid] Maybe he is strong
enough to beat Rosclay!

[thundering boom]

Ah, darn it!

[clicks tongue]
That one was close.

[Mele] Was my aim off?

Could be I'm
overestimating the range.

[scoffs]

Not that I care or anything.

[Mele] But I will get you.

You will shine on
her grave. I swear.

[narrator] He is the one
whose colossal frame expands

into the heavens.

Whose unmatched eyesight
pierces the horizon.

The one whose godly precision can
alter the course of a raging current

with a single draw of his bow.

He unleashes destructive power that
cannot be defended against or evaded.

And annihilates anything
that stands in his path.

His arrows traverse distances
beyond mortal comprehension,

becoming comets in the sky.

An Archer. A Gigant. He is
Mele the Horizon's Roar.

Toghie City

[indistinct chatter]

[quarry] The pursuers are
Old Kingdom Loyalists.

- [♪ suspenseful music playing]
- Did the plan get leaked?

This area is teeming
with minians.

We're too conspicuous.

[companion] The 13 who just crossed
the bridge are approaching fast.

[quarry] No.

It's 14.

And they're decoys.

Five other Loyalists have
slipped into the crowd.

They're trying to blend in.

Tracheal penetration.

Sixth cervical vertebra.

- [dart whooshes]
- [gasps, groans]

[companion] Another just
started in your direction.

[quarry] Northwest of me, right?

Increased breathing rate…

He's noticed me.

- [dart whooshes]
- [groans]

[pursuer chokes]

[companion] Kuuro, I was spotted
by the soldiers on the bridge.

We should get out
of here quickly!

[Kuuro] Don't make any
suspicious movements, Cuneigh.

Stay low.

We don't want the Loyalists
to find out you exist.

It would be a pain.

[laughing] Sure.

I know what that means.

You're worried about me, right?

[Kuuro] I'm worried
about everything.

When my life's at
stake, at least.

- [dart whooshes]
- [grunts]

[♪ pensive music playing]

[indistinct chatter]

[Cuneigh] Did we lose them?

[Kuuro] Who can say?

I'm positive they
know who I am, though.

[Cuneigh] Wow!

Your Clairvoyance lets you
to see so much more than me!

[Kuuro] If they're smart, they'll
send in someone stronger than I am.

Impossible, no one's
stronger than you.

[Kuuro] You can find
them here and there.

[Kuuro scoffs] It seems like
everyone's trying to k*ll me.

[Kuuro] In the past,

I wouldn't have needed Cuneigh
to be an extra set of eyes.

I used to perceive everything.

But my Clairvoyance
isn't what it once was.

My ability is fading away.

One day, I'll be as blind
as the rest of the world.

[♪ pensive music playing]

[footsteps thudding]

[Kuuro] Kuuro the Cautious.

You're from Aureatia?

A pleasure. I'm the
Seventeenth Minister actually.

Or Elea the Red Tag.

Thank you for taking my request.

I'm sure it hasn't been easy.

[high-pitched ringing]

[Kuuro] Hmm…

What's this sensation?

I didn't expect to be met by one
of the Twenty-Nine Officials.

[Elea] I'm in the
tactical squad.

Infiltrating enemy territory
is an important part of my job.

Plus,

make no mistake,

Aureatia understands
what you have to offer.

A warm greeting was necessary.

We need you.

The shrewdest member of the
Obsidian Eyes spy guild.

[Elea] Kuuro the Cautious.

I'm just a detective these days.

[Kuuro] I believe I
eluded my pursuers.

But I should leave the city.

Shall we?

[Elea] Everything is prepared.

We likely won't be able to
avoid highway checkpoints,

so I'm afraid we'll have
to travel the marshland.

It was pouring rain
not two days ago.

[Kuuro] The wheels could
get stuck in the mud.

[Elea] This carriage is
suited for hazardous terrain.

A shallow swamp will
be no trouble at all.

[horses neigh]

It must be similar to the
carriages the Obsidian Eyes favor.

[Elea] You're leaving
your homunculus behind?

Won't she be okay?

From what I'm told, she
stays at your side, always.

Ah, then you do know about her.

Out, Cuneigh.

You're safe.

[nervous groan]

[Kuuro] Cuneigh the Wanderer.

Aureatia is a minian state, but
I'd like her to join me there.

Um, nice to meet you.

- Wow.
- [surprised groan]

I can't believe I'm looking at a
homunculus with wings, of all things.

- [nervous sigh]
- [Elea] Why the rare modification?

[Kuuro] No idea.

She won't harm you.

Though, you may
not believe that.

She seems friendly.

[Elea] Don't worry.

I'll allow her to
enter Aureatia.

Really?

- [happy gasp]
- [Kuuro] Thank you.

- [Cuneigh laughs]
- In truth,

Cuneigh is quite
important to my work.

[Cuneigh] Hurray!

[happy sigh] This
is wonderful news!

It's fine! We're
staying together!

Is that entire mob
trying to find you?

[Kuuro] That's right.

Around a year ago, people
from the Old Kingdom

started infiltrating the
upper ranks of Toghie City.

Given their quickly
growing numbers,

it's a safe bet that they
plan to move against you.

Yes, we're well aware.

I expect that they'll end up being far
more difficult to deal with than Lithia...

- [Kuuro] Not here.
- [gasps]

[guard] Affiliation.

[coachman] I thought
we'd been over this.

[guard] On your way.

[horses neighing]

There's no need
for your concern.

Only someone like you who
has the power of Clairvoyance

would be able to hear our
conversation from outside.

[Kuuro] Forgive me.

I've been cautious since birth.

[Elea] The Old Kingdom's
power is growing,

but I doubt they have the
means to block our passage.

They'd need more influence over
the council and common folk.

They're nowhere near the level of
the New Principality of Lithia.

Taren the Guarded held sway.

[birds chirping]

[Kuuro] Seventeenth Minister…

Suppose we had been
caught in the city,

what would you have done then?

- [light breathing]
- My methods are precise.

I can't best a hundred
opponents at once.

I made quite certain we
wouldn't be in that position.

This marshland, you know why there
are no highways through here.

We're in wurm country.

If one of them attacks, the whole
carriage could be swallowed.

[wind gusting]

Is that why you've got
someone riding on the roof?

[Elea giggles]

There's that legendary
Clairvoyance at work.

[high-pitched ringing]

[Kuuro] Rhythmic breathing…

Is he asleep?

[water gurgling]

[Kuuro gasps]

[surprised gasp]

[♪ tense music playing]

[Cuneigh gasps]

[gasps] Hyah!

- [horses neigh]
- [carriage rattling]

- [Cuneigh] Kuuro!
- Yes, I know.

I spoke too loudly.

My fears have become reality.

[Kuuro] We have a wurm.

Cuneigh, can you keep watch from
the back of the carriage for us?

[Cuneigh] But what will you do?

[Kuuro] When it opens its mouth,

I'll sh**t the nerve cluster
in the back of its throat.

That should slow it
down for a moment.

[Elea] Now, now.

That won't be necessary.

[roars]

Someone else is on the job.

[snickers]

- [♪ thrilling music playing]
- [grunts]

[gasps]

Damn, you're ugly!

[laughing]

[♪ music intensifies]

[growls]

[blade clangs]

[loud rumbling]

[Kuuro] Its heart…

The instant he got
within striking range,

he slashed through the
creature's right atrium.

[silence]

[explodes]

[Soujirou] Well,
that was boring.

You're big, but you
got no skill. [spits]

[♪ dramatic music playing]

[Kuuro] He was able to see the
location of the wurm's heart

from the moment it attacked.

[Elea] Soujirou
the Willow-Sword.

I should have
introduced him before.

Aureatia needs
military strength.

Assets like the two of you.

[Kuuro] They plan to
erase every opposing force

before any of them has
the chance to rise up.

[Kuuro] Then, under the queen's
name, with no opposition,

they can hold the Royal
Games and select a lone Hero.

[Cuneigh] Hey, Kuuro.

Could we take a little rest
while we're here in Aureatia?

Unless…

Are we going straight to
the job that lady gave us?

[Kuuro] We are.

[gasps]
