[Simon]
I have gathered you all here today

to witness history in the making!

I know that sounds like a bold claim,

but in fact,
I have a scientific breakthrough

that will forever change the way
mankind...

And womankind.

Yes, yes. Um...

the way mankind and womankind
think about flora and fauna.

And, I don't mind saying,

I believe the study can apply
to human beings as well!

[yawns]

-Now, the fascinating thing...
-[snoring]

-Alvin!
-Huh?

Ahem! As I was saying,
the fascinating thing

is that the sounds
have totally changed the growth

and appearance of each plant.

And at staggering levels!

[soft voice]
I'm green, I'm smart and I'm strong.

And gosh-darnit,
carbon-based life forms like me!

See how talking nice to the plant

makes it stand up stronger?

And you see
how its leaves are brighter

and bigger and more green?

Cool! I've been saying nice things
to my food for years!

OK, listen, Brussels.

It's not that you're not wonderful.

It's just that I... I haven't
developed a taste for you yet.

Eat!

OK, now it's kind of the same thing,
Theodore.

But, now, watch what happens

when it hears something negative.

[harsh voice]
You're a total disaster!

You're a huge mess!

You're so sad.

I mean, really, you're pathetic!

Just the saddest, most pathetic
plant I've ever seen. Ever.

And I've seen a lot of plants.

Oh, you see that?

See how saying bad things

makes this plant droop
and lose its leaves?

Oh, really, Simon? You know,
they both look like weeds to me.

Oh, Brittany. Come on!
Can't you see?

They're so different.

One leaf is green
and the other is... greenish.

Oh, don't listen to them, Simon.

I think you might be onto something.

Thanks, Jeanette.

Um, but I really believe that if I modify

some of the plant's genes,
you know, to be stronger

and... and maybe add
a chemical formula,

I can prove this theory beyond any doubt!

Now, if I could only influence plants

in their earliest stages
of development,

when they're most impressionable,

then I know I'll come up
with the breakthrough I need!

Now I'm going to add
a little growth chemical.

Ha! It works!

Hello? Guys?

Well, I think it's fantastic!

[soft voice] I'm green,
I'm smart and I'm strong.

[harsh voice]
You're a huge mess.

You're pathetic!

-They look like twins to me!
-Are you kidding me?

How could you not see
the changes?

OK, calm down.
It's just a little joke.

Seriously, though,
I'm impressed!

Look at those cool thorns!

[together] Yeah!

Oh, I can't believe it.
I can't believe it!

I've proven that positive words
affect plants positively and that...

Negative words affect plants negatively.

Oh! This is amazing!

Next time, Simon,

you should try your experiment
with music,

you know, not just words!

What a great idea, Jeanette!

Hear that, Lily and Venus?

That's what you named them?

[Theodore] Hey, Alvin!
Positive words, remember?

I think you both have great names!

Beautiful names!

[growls]

Oh, look, Theodore, it likes you!

Uh, yeah.
That's... that's nice.

I guess.

Hey, guys.
I think Venus might be hungry!

Yeah, and it looks like it knows
what it wants for dinner.

Huh! Better hope Venus doesn't
have a big appetite, Theodore!

[Simon] h*, h*, h*!

I can't wait to see what effect
the positive and negative music

has on Venus and Lily!

And I can't wait to see
what effect it'll have

if you would just stop talking
and let us sleep!

OK. Rude.

[heavy metal]

[birdsong]

Dave, Dave, it's totally amazing!

Every day is like a brand-new discovery

into a whole new world!

This doesn't sound safe.

I don't like you working
with chemicals and...

[Simon] Oh, Dave,
you don't have to worry.

I'm being very careful.

[growls]

I'm sorry, Simon.
But I just don't want you continuing

on something that could...

But, Dave! I'm on the brink
of a scientific breakthrough!

[Miss Croner] Aaah!

[Dave] Oh, Miss Croner, are you OK?

No! No, I'm not OK!

Look at my garden!

They're gone!

They're all gone!

What monster would steal my gardenias?

Someone who likes gardenias, a lot.

I mean, maybe aliens needed
to collect them for studying.

Who knows?
Well, the possibilities are endless.

I mean, who's to say what's a rose,

what's a gardenia,
you know, maybe what's a lily?

Will you shut it?

I don't care about your theories!

Oh! I thought you might have escaped

and eaten Miss Croner's gardenias.

That's totally... I mean...

Oh.

OK... Where's Lily?

Um, Venus. Are... are you hungry?

Simon! Alvin told Miss Croner...

Wait. What are you doing?

I thought Dave said
you had to get rid of that plant!

I know, I know. I'm going to.

I just need to know if he ate Lily.

Do you like eating other plants, Venus?

Did... did you eat Lily?

-[grunts]
-Doesn't seem interested.

But I can't imagine
what happened to Lily!

[burps]

OK, mystery solved.
But he couldn't have left the room

and eaten Miss Croner's gardenias,
could he?

[burps]

I'm gonna say yes.

OK, Dave's right!
I have to put an end to this, now!

Stop.

First off, I've gotta get rid
of these growth chemicals

and turn off these headphones.

[heavy metal]

That's the end of that.

[sniffs]

[Hard Rock Chipmunk song playing]

It... It's destroying our home!

Simon, do something!

I'm thinking! I'm thinking!

OK, no more thinking, all right?

That's how you got us
into this mess in the first place!

Of course!

Come on, guys, I know exactly what to do!

OK, guys! So, here's the plan.

We have to somehow take
those negative headphones off Venus

and replace them
with these positive headphones.

No, no! Don't do it, Simon!

I just don't see any other way!

Well, then, count me in!

[Chipettes] Us too!

I... I want to be positive
and I want to help,

but...

but we're gonna die!

We gotta try and sneak up on him.

[growls]

[roars]

[in unison] Aaah!

[Simon] Retreat!

[roars]

Aaah! No!

-[Theodore] Help!
-[gasps] He's got Theodore!

Aaah!

Oh, who's such a nice plant?

And... and... and a good plant?

Who... who's the best plant
in the whole world?

You! You are the best plant!

No!

Oh, no! I can't watch!

Oh, wait! Guys, look!

[soft voice] I'm green,
I'm smart and I'm strong.

[in unison] Yay!

What... what... what is this?

Uh, Dave, Dave,
do not look at me with that

"What did you do, Alvin?" look, OK?

I had nothing to do with this!

Simon!

I know, Dave! And I'm so sorry!
But I do have a plan.

[Simon] Oh... How's he doing?

So amazing!

I'm telling you,
for the last two weeks,

everyone's been asking
where they can get a plant like Venus.

Oh, oh, thank you.

Thank you,
but I'm gonna take a pass on that.

I am never messing
with Mother Nature again!

Oh, Simon, but hold on.
Did you hear her?

Everyone wants one!

Uh, Alvin, no, that's... no.
We're not doing that.

But I've got this all figured out.

You tell me how to mess with it,
so you don't have to!

No, Alvin!

Simon, it's called supply and demand,
OK?

There's a demand
and we can supply it!

-I mean, me!
-No!

Oh! Why, hello!

Where did you come from?

Aaah!

Oh, my gosh!

Brittany! Eleanor! Guess what?

Alvin's moving out?

No. But somebody else has moved in.
Bees!

Right outside our door,
there's a beehive!

What?

Whoa, Britt,
kinda extreme reaction.

Hello? Don't you remember
that time I was stung by a bee?

[pastoral music]

Aaah! Oh! Oh, no!

[sobs] It hurts!

Oh, it hurts so bad!

I almost lost my arm!

-Uh... not really, though, right?
-Yeah.

That's not quite how I remember it.

[pastoral music]

Aaah! Look!

Ow, my arm. Oh!

[sobs]

I'm with Jeanette on this one.
It wasn't that bad.

I don't care what you both think.

Bees are dangerous
and... and... and mean...

and... and noisy...
and... and just gross!

Britt, no! We need bees!

First of all, they pollinate...

OK, that's fascinating.

But they can pollinate
someone else's flowers, OK?

I'm calling the exterminator.

No!

You can't do that!

That... that would be cruel
and short-sighted.

We... we have to protect bees.
They're already under as*ault

by all the pesticides
we spray on the plants.

Oh, come on! One little hive less
won't make a difference!

Yes, it will! Bees are our friends!

Yeah, well, I prefer friends
that don't attack me.

Not only do bees make honey,

but they also play such an important role

in all the beautiful flowers
and fruits we love.

Oh, I know. I love bees.

Yes, is this, uh... Bee Be Gone?

Uh, listen.
I have a hive outside my house

and I need it gone!

And bees are so vital to our ecosystem.

I know. I love bees.

Tomorrow? But it's an emergency!

[man on phone]
Sorry, that's the best we can do.

It's OK, Brittany. Calm down.
It'll be gone in the morning.

Huh! Unless...

Simon! I... I need your help!

Simon?

Ugh! Darn it!

"Alvin, do not touch the shrink ray.

I repeat, do not touch the shrink ray."

Hmm.

Aaah! Get away!

Aaah!

What?

Aaah!

[thudding footsteps]

[sneezes]

Alvin?

Nope, nope, no, sorry, Theodore!

Your cookies aren't up here!

Alvin! Don't go! Help!

[Jeanette] So, the queen
is the most important member

of the hive.
All the other bees serve her.

I know! I know about the bees!

Jeanette! Eleanor!

[Jeanette] Well, did you know

that one third of the food
we eat every day

relies on pollination by bees?

[sniffs]

Gross.

[Eleanor] Oh, Jeanette!

I know! I know about the bees!
They're amazing!

[Jeanette] Yeah, and did I tell you...

[Eleanor] No, I know about this!

Jeanette! Eleanor!

Over here!

Aaah!

Aaah!

Oh! This cannot be happening!

Help!

Oh, I'm getting nauseous.

No, no, no!
Please, not the hive!

[gasps]

Help! Help!

Oh, oh!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

Yum! Honey!

Wait.

What... what are you doing?

Oh! You stopped the bleeding.

Wow! I had no idea
honey was so... healing.

[yawns]

Is it OK if I just lie down here?

Just for a second?

[solemn voice] All rise for Her Majesty!

[gasps] Oh! Your... Your Majesty.

Brittany, welcome to our queendom.

[gasps] You know my name?

Yes, of course.

You are one of our upstairs
neighbours in the tree house.

But, Brittany,
that's not what we're here to discuss.

The hive is in danger and you're
the only one who can save us.

Wait a sec!

If you're saying I'm the only
one who can save the hive,

does that, like, you know,
sort of make me the queen?

No. Not even a little bit.
I'm the queen.

No, no, I know.
But I'm just saying...

Yes, but don't say it.
Don't say it. I'm the queen.

No, no, I know.
But I'm just saying...

No. Stop. Stop.

-OK, but...
-No. Stop it.

-Yeah, I...
-Stop.

I am the queen. That's enough.

Now, follow me.
There's much to discuss.

[Chipmunk song plays]

[sobs]

I never thought I'd say this,
but bees are so important!

And... and so perfectly
colour-coordinated!

I'm so glad you understand
and appreciate us, Brittany.

Some people are not so enlightened,

and that's why our hive
is in great danger.

I appoint you our chief protector.

But doesn't that sort of make me...

No! No, no, it doesn't.
Don't even say it.

OK, fine. So, how can I help?

You will soon see.
We have faith in you, Brittany.

No! No! Come back!

I... I don't understand! Please!

Tell me how I can help!

Wait...

Huh?

OK. Spooky.

[coughs]

[music in headphones]

Oh, no! The exterminator!

Ah! OK! Listen to me!

Nobody fall asleep!

OK, guys! We're packing up! Pronto!

Abandon hive! So, come on!

[gasps] Over there!

OK. This shouldn't be too hard.

I'll just, uh...

flip the reverse switch.

Oh...

Oh, heavy!

Take me back up.

Oh, no! Oh, no!
Think, Brittany, think!

Oh, Alvin! I'm so happy you're here!

Did I just really say that?

OK, it worked once, it'll work again!

I hope.

Aaah! There's a bee in here!

Don't... Don't hurt it!

Shoo! Shoo!

No...

Come on, Alvin,
keep following me!

I've never seen such an annoying bee!

-Here! Catch it with the cup!
-Perfect. Perfect.

Let me have that thing.

[Brittany] I got it. Get to that ray!

Aaah!

Oh, sorry about that.

But, change of plans,

I need you to move the hive,
not k*ll the hive.

They'll be happier in this tree.

[Jeanette] Oh, Brittany,
I'm so glad you like bees now.

Well... What can I say?
I... I got to know them better.

Oh, really? How?

OK, so, get this!

I got zapped by Simon's shrink ray,

and then I rode on the back of a bee,

and I visited the hive,

and I got to know the queen.

And, like, she really likes me.

So, basically,
I'm like part of the colony now.

Very funny, Brittany.

Yeah, because my invention doesn't work.

Yes! Yes, it does!

No, it doesn't.

Well, you know,
maybe I'll go get my shrink ray.

Yeah, good idea.
