[Cheesy] OK, guys,

I got it!

No! No! I got it!

No! I got it!

[Kevin] Ow!

Oh, great hustle, you guys!

But... but none of us caught the ball!

But... but you didn't run
into each other like the last time!

I... I know!

Baseball could really be our thing!

Oh, boy!

[whistle blows]

[Coach Dobkins] Some of you
may be wondering why I'm here.

I'm here to make you into winners.

But it's not gonna be easy
and it's not going to be fun.

OK, you, you, you and you.

-You're outta here.
-Uh... where?

Wherever you want.

Go to the mall or get a hot chocolate.

I don't care.
You're off the team.

I saw you on my way over.
You guys can't catch or hit.

You're losers!

But... but, coach,

you haven't even given them a chance!

OK, and you.
You're with them now.

-Anyone else wanna question me?
-[Alvin] Well...

You got something to say, too?

Because if you don't want to be a winner,

you're free to leave as well.

OK. Whatever. Guys, come on.
We're outta here.

OK, Theodore, we gotta go!

What? We're leaving?

Yeah, were you not watching this?

But... but, Dave!
We... we really need you. Please!

Theodore, look, I just...

We want to start our own team!

So... so you have to be our coach!
Please!

Oh, Theodore, I'm so sorry,

but I've got to finish this song. I'm...

[Jeanette] Guys! I found a coach!

[gasps] Who?

-Miss Croner!
-Miss Croner?

Apparently, she used to be
a star player in a league!

[Theodore]
Oh! This is the best news ever!

Oh, are they out of their minds?

Ow!

Can... can we please try
with something bigger?

Like a baseball?

No! If you hit a penny,
you can hit a baseball. Next!

[Cheesy] Sorry, I have a quick question.
What about gloves?

Can't we use gloves?

-[Miss Croner] No!
-Ow!

Gloves are for babies!

Do you know I caught a nickel
in the gap of my teeth once?

Oh, wow. No. I didn't know that.

[mumbles] And you can bet your butt
I don't believe it either, lady.

What did you say?

Oh, nothing!

Ow!

Should have caught that.
You're up.

You! Come on, let's go!

Ow!

You see?
Gloves wouldn't have helped you there.

Yes! Ha, ha!
That's how you hit a penny!

[glass breaking]

Everyone run!

[Dave] Well, I think this is
a much better place to practise,

don't you, Miss Croner?

I mean, you know, there are
no windows anywhere, no...

Oh, if you insist, Seville.

Cheese boy! Hit the penny!

-[Cheesy] Ow!
-You've got to swing, you fool!

[Miss Smith]
All right, put the penny down!

All of you, just stop what you're doing.

What is going on here?

I'm coaching these kids
how to play softball.

By hitting pennies?

All right,
now I've heard of everything.

You have to stop this nonsense.
Now!

Fine. Coach them yourself!

-And I won't be back!
-That's fine.

Good! Because I won't be!
Even if you were to beg me!

Well, I'm not going to beg you.

Good!
Because it wouldn't do you any good!

OK, everyone gather around.

Not a bit of good!

I heard you!

And I'm not coming back!

[Miss Smith] All right!

Now, if we're going to win,
we're going to need more players.

Good players.
Players who can run, jump, catch and hit.

Now go find them somewhere, please!

Here.

We don't need this any more.

-And I'm not picking them up!
-Oh, are you still here?

Yes! But I'm leaving!
And there's no point

in you begging me to stay,
because I won't!

All right, well, it sounds
like your mind's made up.

[Eleanor] Ta-da-da-da!

May I present to you our complete team!

Woo-hoo! We're gonna be awesome!

Oh, well, look who's here.

I thought you were never coaching again.

And I'm not!
I'm here as a player, ya howler!

Theodore invited me.

I felt bad because she kept saying,

"I won't join the team,
even if you ask me!"

But then she said "Yes" right...
right away!

Oh, OK.

All right, everyone,
let's get on the field.

Hold on, Eleanor.
Quick question.

Who are these people?

This is the most random group
of misfits I've ever seen.

No, they're not random.
That's Miss Miller, our neighbour.

Oh, dear! I'm sorry!
Are you all right?

OK, she can stay.

And that over there, that's Neville.

Uh, super-super fast,
but only when he's being chased.

And, uh, Duncan there...
amazing player, very spirited.

[Duncan] You're a dead man, boy!

And Miss Croner
is always full of surprises.

[Miss Croner] Somebody run for me!

I don't want to do it myself.

You still have to go
around the bases, it's the rule.

Fine, you beady-eyed bossypants!

But I won't run!
You can't make me!

OK, everyone.
Let's work on our hitting.

Cheesy, Jeanette, Kevin, I've seen
a nice improvement from all of you.

Theodore, keep... keep practising.

In fact, you're up.

I have to go to the bathroom.

Oh, uh, well, Eleanor, you're up.

-[Miss Croner] You!

Well, maybe not worse,

but I can make you a better player.

[Theodore] Well, um...

OK. I'll be there.

[Chipmunk song playing]

Hey, Theodore, what's going on?

Well, it's the big game tomorrow, Dave.

And... and I'm very nervous.

-I got it!
-I got it!

[Chipmunk song playing]

Come on,

This is your last chance to win this game

and show everyone
you're not a complete waste of space!

You only need one more out!

Now get out there
and win this thing!

Logan, I want you to take her out.

-What are you doing?
-Oh, I'm sorry. I thought I saw the ball.

Hey, we actually have a chance to win!

No, we don't. Theodore's up.

[Miss Smith]
OK, Theodore. You're up.

Uh, let Miss Croner go up.
She'll... she'll do better!

No. That would be cheating.

Well, they cheated!

We're not cheaters!
Now get out there!

And... and remember. Come here.

Keep your eye on the penny.

Everybody, move in!
This kid can't hit!

I can't.

[Alvin] You can do it, Theodore.

I've seen you practise.

Oh, oh! And remember,
the ball's a lot bigger than a penny.

-Seville!
-[Kevin] Come on, Theodore!

-Come on!
-You can do this!

OK. I'm keeping my eye on it.
I watch it getting bigger...

I can do this.

[cheering]

[Jeanette] You did it!

[umpire] You're out!

[Coach Dobkins]
Where do you think you're going?

h*, h*! To celebrate!
Theodore got his first base hit!

Everyone get back here!

[Eleanor] Yes! You did it!

We won!

No, we didn't win, Theodore.

Yes, we did! We won!

No, we didn't.

We... we almost won!

Yeah, Theodore hit the ball,
so that's sorta like a win.

No, it's... we didn't win.
Uh... never mind.

[animated chattering]

-What's going on with the girls?
-Uh, Simon.

They've been fighting
like cats and dogs for weeks now!

[school bell rings]

So, who are you bringing
to the father-daughter dance?

Uh... my father?

Oh, yeah. Duh!

[sighs]

[sighs]

My dad's getting me a new dress.

[Jenny] Cool!

Oh, man!

Have you picked it out yet?

Oh, oh, Britt, ask Sheridan
if she wants to sit with us.

-No!

Excuse me! Are you implying
that I ate all of them?

Well, it certainly wasn't me.

No, you ate all the cherries.

-[Eleanor] No, she didn't.
-[Brittany] Thank you.

[Eleanor] She took all the good ones.

[Miss Smith]

or even share a friend's father.

Oh, guys.
You know, Sandy's nice.

You could all share her dad.

Simon, we're not all sharing anything!

Yeah, why break your perfect record?

Oh, oh, 'cause you're so generous?

[all shout at once]

Dave, you gotta listen!

The girls have each figured out
that you're the one

they want to take
to the father-daughter dance!

-How do you know this?
-I know how their minds work.

OK, now, now... Wait a minute.
Why can't I take them all?

Oh, Dave, Dave... you are...
you are so clueless!

-They won't go together.
-Well, I think...

[door bell rings]

[Alvin] Dave! Get in the closet!
We can't let them talk to you!

Theodore, go upstairs in case one of them
tries to get in that way.

Simon, you cover the back door.

Well! Well, Brittany.
Hello! Oh, my goodness,

what brings you here?

Oh! Hey, Alvin. I, um, well,
I made some cookies for Dave and...

-Oh, I'll give them to him.
-No, no.

I was hoping to give them to him myself.

Yes, yes. I'm sure you were,
but that's just not possible.

[Theodore] Uh-oh!

-[Jeanette] Ow!
-Oh, hi, Jeanette.

What brings you here?

Because, uh, if it's Dave,
he's not here.

Oh, nuts! I wanted to share
some Milky Way photos with him

that, well, I thought he would enjoy.

Oh! No, yeah, Dave...
Dave hates the Milky Way.

He's had a lot of trouble
with it in the past.

He's always saying, "Don't show
me any photos of the Milky Way!"

-Really?
-Yeah. It's, like, his top pet peeve.

You better go, Jeanette.

You have Milky Way written all over you.

-[Eleanor] Hello?
-Oh, oh, hey, Eleanor.

Yeah, the doggy door is stuck.

It hasn't been working for a while.

[Eleanor]
It's not working because you're...

standing right in front of it!

Oh, well, looks like you fixed it.

Yes I did.

Um, hey, is Dave around?

I got us tickets to this soccer game

and I just wanted to pass them along.

Oh, and I will be sure
he gets them!

Wait! No! Simon, I wanted to...

[Simon] All right, now. Goodbye.
Out ya go!

It's Dave!

[Simon] Come on, Dave, quick!

[Alvin] Get in! Get in!

-[Jeanette] Excuse me, guys!
-[Eleanor] Wait!

[in unison] Oh...

-What did you want?
-Nothing. What did you want?

Uh, nothing.

-[ringing]
-[all] Don't answer it!

Yes?

[posh accent] Hello, young man.

This is Josephine from the bank.
I have some very urgent news.

Is there an adult in the house
I can speak with?

-No.
-But, I must talk to him...

[Jeanette] I think Dave might like
these pictures and, well,

I... I took them myself.

Oh, they're nice, but...
Dave hates mountains.

What? Why?

Why? Uh... 'cause, uh...

'cause he... he fell off a mountain
once, so he... he hates them.

Just, uh, he... he hates 'em.

Alvin, I've been trying to talk to Dave,

but I haven't had any luck!

Please, please help me!

What do you want to see Dave for?

I want him to take me to the dance.

Yeah, that's not gonna happen.

OK, well... What if I get you
a date with Sheridan?

Love you, Alvin!

Oh! Oh! You've got a deal.

Dust off your party dress, Cinderella,

we are getting you to the ball.

OK, that was sort of lame,
but, uh... thank you!

[Eleanor] See, Theodore, the thing is,

it's always been hard for me
not having a dad.

But Dave's always been
like a dad to me.

He just gets me.

And we enjoy all the same things.

Yeah, yeah, I understand that.

OK, I'll... I'll get you
to the dance with Dave.

I promise!

Simon, Dave just doesn't get me!

We've never spent enough time together

for him to really get to know me!

And I just found out
he hates the Milky Way!

Like, hates it!

And mountains! Hates 'em!

We... we just don't have
that much in common.

And, well, I... I think he just...
he thinks I'm a big weirdo!

Oh, Jeanette, Jeanette,
I'm sure that's not true.

OK? Now look,
let me just see what I can do.

[ingratiating chuckle] So, so,
Dave, you wanna hear something,

really amazing about Brittany?
[chuckles]

She writes a lot
of her own songs, just like you.

Yeah, but... but she doesn't like soccer.

You know, Eleanor and Dave
both love soccer.

In fact, um, Eleanor can play

just about any sport you can think of!

You guys should hang out more.

Dave, you know the Milky Way
isn't Jeanette's only interest, right?

I mean, you could talk to her
about anything.

Well, I like Jeanette.

Yeah, but... but not as much
as you like Eleanor,

I'll tell ya that!

OK, look! Brittany's the best!
All right?

Case closed! She's the best!

That's it, and I'm done talking about it!

Oh, oh, you're done
talking about it. Uh-huh.

Well, who made you the boss?

[boys start squabbling]

Enough!

Oh, that's exactly what I was afraid of.

We've all turned against each other.

Guys, what if Dave
could take all three of them

without them finding out?

Ooh, I like that.

I guess it's the only way.

[Alvin] Britt, great news!

Dave would love to take you
to the dance.

Yeah, but don't tell your sisters, OK?

'Cause he doesn't want to hurt
anybody's feelings.

Oh, you found someone
to take you to the dance?

Oh, you're sweet to ask. I did.
Thank you. What about you?

Yeah. I did.

Jeanette, you're going to the dance too?

Um... Well, yes. Yes, I am.

Guys, does this dress remind you
of the Milky Way or a mountain?

-What?
-Huh?

So, Eleanor's first?

Yes, Dave. Eleanor's first
because she's always on time.

Then, Brittany, because, I told you,

she wants to make a big entrance,

but, you know, not look
too eager to get there early.

And then Jeanette,
well, she barely even knows

the dance is tonight,
so she's fine with being last.

Uh, OK, all right.
I think I've got that.

Then... then what?

Oh, don't worry, Dave.

We volunteered to help at the dance.

Dave, we've got this totally handled.

We'll be giving you instructions
all the way.

Yeah, don't worry.
We'll see you there, Dave.

-Hi, Dave!
-Hey, Eleanor.
