[metronome ticking]

[somber music rises]

[softly] We're special.

You are special.

Just like your grandma.

And your great-aunt before us.

Why?

Because of the instinct.

What's "the instinct"?

[mother] It's the celestial part of you.

[metronome continues ticking]

[mother] You're a little angel, son.

Maybe the instinct will grow one day

THE LAST NIGHT AT TREMORE BEACH

and talk to you

from heaven, just like it does to me.

[birds singing outside]

EPISODE 3

I WAS ONCE DEAD

[young Álex] The instinct talks to you?

That's why I know

you will play beautiful melodies.

But I don't wanna hear voices, Momma.

Sleep.

Get some rest.

Don't be afraid of the instinct.

- [echoing] It's here to help you.

- [ticking fades out]

[Judy] I'm going before they wake up.

Try to stay calm, Álex.

[eerie music playing]

[Álex] I told you

it hadn't left the house.

I closed all the windows.

Socks hunted it down in the basement.

[Socks purrs]

[music grows ominous]

I know what's happening to me, Judy.

What happened to your mother.

I know it seems crazy.

And that's why she was admitted.

My dad and I would just laugh it off.

She said so many things,

she was bound to get some right.

But she predicted

that train would derail

days before it happened.

That exact train.

And now, after so long, I think

she was right about a lot of things.

I don't know.

What if she was right all along?

What if she has that intuition?

What if she didn't have schizophrenia

but the ability to see the future?

[exhales]

I know that look.

She used to get those looks.

I've given her that look myself.

But it all fits.

The other day, María was wounded.

Last night, Leo and her were dead.

What if there's actually someone

who wants to hurt them?

It was a bird, Álex.

It came in through the window.

These things happen here.

- [car doors close]

- [engine turns over]

They're coming this way.

Tell them I'm still sleeping.

[music fades]

- [kicks door open]

- [wind whistling]

[car approaching]

- [car engine stops]

- [parking brake clicks]

- Hi.

- [Judy] Hey.

Good morning, Judy.

- Hi.

- How are you?

- Good.

- Sorry for coming this early.

But, uh Leo thinks that someone

broke into our house last night,

and we'd like to know

if you heard or saw anything.

[Judy] Um we were sleeping like a log.

Álex is still asleep, actually.

So you didn't hear anything?

Not not even the dog barking? Or

- Nothing at all? Nothing?

- [Judy] No.

- Did they take anything?

- [Leo] No, no, no. Nothing's missing.

[Judy] How do you know

someone got in, then?

[Leo] They broke the lock.

- [Judy] Well, I don't know what to say.

- [María] It's all right. Don't worry.

Uh, we're going sailing later

with Peio and Viviana,

and then we're having lunch

by the beach at Tres Cabos.

Uh, can you ask Álex

if his kids would like to join us?

Being on a boat

could be fun for them, you know?

[Judy] Sure. I'll ask him.

We're going at around 11 o'clock.

- Okay. Okay?

- Mm-hmm. Well, ciao.

- [both] Ciao.

- Sure thing.

[car doors open]

- [doors close]

- [engine starts]

Leo was acting weird, right?

How would you act if you thought someone

broke in while you were asleep?

- I should talk to them, right?

- Yes, Álex. Yes.

You should talk to them.

[sighs] I keep going over it in my head.

[sighs] In my vision,

a cop was saying that

recently, bad things happen in Tremore.

Nothing ever happens here.

"Recently" in the future I saw.

- [birds singing]

- [sighs]

Hey!

Champ! You're up already?

Papa, the birds make a lot of noise.

- Yeah.

- That's life in Tremore. Wildlife.

- [Bruno] When did you get here?

- Last night.

Is that bad?

Before I go, would you give me a kiss?

Oh, you're not staying for breakfast?

If you want me here, I'll stay.

You want me here?

- [Álex] For you.

- Thanks.

There you go.

So you guys are a couple?

[clock chimes]

Um, your dad

and I are getting to know each other.

Like, uh when you go to school

and you have to make new friends.

And you get along with some of them.

Others not so much.

Do you two get along well?

- So far, yes.

- [Álex] Yeah.

- [Judy] So far yes.

- Yeah.

- [Bruno] And do you kiss?

- [clock chimes]

[Judy chuckles]

Sometimes.

And Mom can't know you do.

No, no, no, no, no.

Uh, it's a bit too soon, bud.

Just like Manfred and Bea.

- You blockhead.

- [Álex] Manfred?

- You've got a big mouth, huh?

- Manfred?

He's my boyfriend.

You have a boyfriend?

And what do you do with, um Manfred?

Nothing much.

We hang. We go to the movies.

And?

What about the

other things that couples do or whatever?

We haven't done it,

if that's what you're asking.

How do you know him?

From school. And he's a drummer.

[exhales] Oh. I get it now.

No you don't, Dad,

because you're never there. But it's fine.

And if you just wanna have

a talk with me about sex, great.

Because I'm doing it

as soon as I get back to Amsterdam.

- I'm gonna go now.

- [Álex] Mm-hmm.

[Judy] What are you doing today?

What do you feel like doing?

You could go on the boat

with Leo and María, right?

[Bruno] Yeah! Please, Papa?

I wanna see the pirates' cave.

Can we go on the boat? Please, Papa?

- [seagulls calling]

- [soothing music playing]

- [Bruno] Come on!

- [Bea] Last one's a rotten egg! [laughs]

- [Bruno] Which one is Leo's boat?

- [Bea] Look! Don't you see?

[Bea] Mm-hmm.

[Judy] Do you like it?

- [Bea] Yeah.

- [Bruno] Yeah, it's cool.

[Bea] Is your hostel around here?

[Judy] Yeah, it's right

behind the fish market, over there.

If you want, when you're back, well,

you guys could come by,

and we'll grab a bite to eat.

- Do you have churros and hot chocolate?

- The best in Tremore.

[group chuckles]

[Judy] Have fun on the boat.

Your kids are so cute.

Enjoy them. They miss you.

And talk to Leo and María,

so you don't have to worry as much.

I will. Thanks.

- [Bruno] Papa, look! Leo's over there!

- [car engine starts]

[calming music fades]

[Leo] Come here! This way!

Hey!

[ominous music playing]

- [indistinct chatter]

- Shall we go now?

- [Leo] Be careful. Don't fall.

- Let's go somewhere else first.

It'll be just a minute. Come on.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Álex] Some neighbor was talking

about safety problems in the area.

There's just one house

apart from mine, so

Yes, Leo Bazán and María Vargas.

You're renting the Coopers'

summer house across from them.

- I suppose, yeah.

- It's a very small town.

No one's ever complained

about safety there.

Yeah, because nothing happened yet.

So what, then?

Just because nothing happened

doesn't mean it won't. Right?

There have been robberies

in some houses in town, yeah. But

- But nothing with violence?

- With violence?

- No?

- No.

- What do you know about Leo and María?

- Leo and María?

[chuckles] Sorry, uh

Yeah. When they moved here,

did anyone else come with them?

Maybe a son?

Do you know of anyone

who might wanna hurt them?

[hesitates] Mister De la Fuente,

what exactly are you looking for?

Do you know Alicia Blanchard?

Alicia Blanchard?

Alicia Blanchard.

I'm sorry, but I think you've got a reason

to ask me these questions,

and you're not telling me what it is.

No, no. It's

I'm concerned about safety.

But I can rest assured now.

[uplifting music playing]

TRAGIC NEWS

TWO PEOPLE LOST AT SEA

You all right?

[Álex exhales deeply, grunts]

I'm not made for this.

[Leo] The sound of the sea

is music for the soul, Álex.

- You should listen to it.

- [music fades]

[Álex sighs]

Listen.

When did you learn how to sail?

It's been a few years.

I learned in Brazil.

I had a Brazilian girlfriend.

Her father was a fisherman.

So I was trying to impress him.

But anyway,

I've only handled small vessels.

Eighteen, 21-footers.

So this isn't your first boat.

This is my fourth. Is that surprising?

What about their names?

What?

How do you choose the names for the boats?

This is "The Daniel," for example.

That's how it was called

when we bought it.

We're not into giving names to vessels.

Have you ever had a scare?

Never.

- Never?

- [Leo] No, never.

They say the sea's pretty treacherous.

That's bad luck, Álex.

Come on. What's the matter with you?

Nothing, I think

I'm just feeling a little woozy.

DISCOVER THE CAVE AT WIND BEACH

[Leo] First course? Rice.

"Second course?"

"We'll have the rice with the lobster."

- [Bruno] Papa! The pirates' cave!

- [Leo] "For dessert?" "The rice pudding."

"Would you like to listen to some music?"

And he says, "Yes. Play 'Rice' Stewart."

[group laughs]

- [Vi] That's good.

- Wow.

[Peio] I didn't know it was a joke.

[Leo] Bruno, did you know that this part

of the coast is full of hiding places?

Let's go, then.

- We're going fishing in a bit, actually.

- [typing on phone]

Some other time, okay? But look.

There's a beautiful beach there.

It's super close, and it's incredible.

The Beach of the Wind.

The caves there are gigantic.

- Let me see.

- [Bruno] Seen any treasures there?

- Wow. He's very handsome.

- [Leo] No.

- Hey, Leo.

- [Leo] What?

María told Viviana about

what happened to you last night.

- [Peio] Why didn't you say anything?

- To avoid this conversation.

Ay, ay So they broke in, then?

Well, doors don't force themselves open,

do they?

I already told you, you didn't close

it properly, and the dog bumped into it.

Also, they didn't take anything.

So let's just drop it.

[Peio] I told you.

Just get an alarm like ours,

and you won't have to worry, guys.

- Well

- [Peio] Hmm.

Is that why we went to the police station?

Because of the thieves?

What's this about the police?

Um Nothing. Well, we stopped by

to ask about those thieves Peio

was talking about

because, um, well, you know.

You told them someone

broke into our house last night?

No. I didn't, no.

Right. So you went to the cops

because you're worried

about the robberies,

but you didn't tell them about last night.

No, no, because I agree with María.

Why would they break in

and not take anything?

Doesn't make any sense.

[Leo] What doesn't make sense to me

is you don't think someone

broke into our house,

but you went to the cops worried

about someone breaking into houses?

Leo, I'm worried about my kids.

- What's the matter?

- Nothing.

- Is that bad?

- No, no, no.

Not at all, man.

Go check that cave out.

We'll pick you up later.

Go ahead. Go play pirates.

[Álex] Guys.

WIND BEACH

Look at that.

Papa, are you going to live here forever?

No.

Just until I finish

what I came here to compose.

And after that?

Will you move to Amsterdam?

Wherever you two are.

And Judy?

What about Judy?

Would you like her to come with me?

Well, whatever,

as long as you don't keep living

in that old house on your own.

[Bruno] Judy's cool, Papa.

[Álex] Yeah, she is cool.

Papa, look! The pirates' caves!

I wanna go see them.

You wanna go see them?

- [kisses]

- Huh?

What do you think?

You wanna go see them too?

[kisses]

- I think last one's a rotten egg!

- [Álex grunts]

- [Bea] Stop! That's not fair!

- [Álex panting]

[Bea] Go, go, go, Bruno!

- [Bea] Run!

- [Bruno calls out]

[panting] Hey!

- [Bea] What?

- Don't go too far, okay?

- You're not coming?

- [Álex] In a second.

I have to make a call.

No need to try and hide it.

You smell like smoke.

And besides,

you could hardly breathe while running.

- You're crazy. Get outta here. Just go.

- [Bea] Come on.

Careful! Guys, careful!

[ominous music playing]

[Bea] I'm gonna catch you,

little man, run! Run! [laughs]

[Bea exclaims]

I'm faster, I'm faster, I'm faster.

[both laugh]

[Bea exclaims]

[music fades]

[waves crashing]

[cell phone vibrating]

- Paula?

- [Paula] Finally! How's it going?

Good. We came down to the beach.

And how do you feel?

Any news from the hospital?

I'm fine. I have to go back in a few days.

All in order.

Álex, if you feel even slightly bad,

let me know. Okay?

- Uh-huh.

- Put the kids on.

Um they're not here with me right now.

[scoffs] Again? And who are they with now?

They're together.

They're checking out a cave. They're fine.

A cave? A cave where?

[unsettling music playing]

Álex, are you smoking?

You left my kids alone

in a cave just to have a smoke?

Paula, please.

I'm begging you. Give me a break.

Give me a break. They're fine.

[unsettling music intensifies]

[Bea] Bruno?

- What's the matter?

- Niels, he thinks you're irresponsible.

Tell Niels to stick

his opinions of me up his a*s.

Maybe he forgot,

but I'm the g*dd*mn father here.

Then start acting like one.

We've tolerated enough already.

Tolerated what?

Tolerated what?

[Bea, alarmed] Bruno? Bruno?

Bruno!

You and your f*cking music.

You and your f*cking success. Know what?

Life's much better without all that.

Paula, go to hell.

- God damn it.

- And you go get my kids.

[cell phone locks]

[shouts]

[Bea] Dad!

Dad!

- What happened?

- [Bea] It's Bruno!

- [Álex] What? Where's your brother?

- [Bea] Come on, hurry up!

[Álex] Bruno?

Bruno!

[music fades]

- [Álex] What's going on?

- He's having one of his weird moments.

- What weird moments?

- Mom already told the psychologist.

It's not serious. He just goes quiet.

It's like he's not here.

[tense music playing]

[Bea] Sometimes he sweats

and gets nervous,

but all we can do is wait.

[Bruno breathing shakily]

[heart beating]

[Álex, softly] Hey

Buddy.

[heart beating faster]

[somber music playing]

[notification chimes]

[Álex] Do you feel better?

I was really cold.

[Álex] I know. I know, bud.

Do you remember what happened?

I was scared.

Scared of what?

Of someone who was coming to hurt us.

A monster.

A monster?

What was that monster like?

It was a person. But a very bad one.

Did you know them?

He was wearing a mask,

and I only saw him for a moment.

Then I felt it. He wanted to hurt me.

But I wasn't in the cave anymore.

Where were you?

I don't remember.

Is there anything else

that you do remember?

No, there's not.

Okay.

Listen.

I'm so sorry

for leaving you alone in the cave.

And I'm sorry you got so scared.

It won't happen again, I promise.

Do you forgive me?

But it wasn't your fault

that the monster came.

[gentle music playing]

[gently] You're the best.

[fire crackling]

[floorboards creak]

[exhales]

[sighs deeply]

[Álex] I really needed to hug you.

How is he?

Fine.

He was really tired, poor thing.

That makes two.

[helicopter blades whirring on TV]

[Álex] Hey.

Thanks so much for picking us up so fast.

You're gonna get tired of helping me out

so much eventually.

I was about to, yeah.

You can make up for it with a nice dinner.

I'll put Bea to bed and be right back.

[gentle piano melody playing]

[Álex whispers] Hey Sweetie.

[clicks tongue]

Let's go to bed. Here we go.

[grunts]

[Judy] You see

and hear things that aren't there,

and that's linked

to most known delirium disorders,

but at the same time,

you don't have any of

the other associated symptoms.

I think you need help.

I think that you need

to get the right tests done.

So we can understand what's going on.

[Socks purring]

[Judy breathing shakily]

[music fades]

[muttering]

[Álex] Shh. It's okay.

It's okay. Don't worry.

It's okay, it's okay,

it's okay, it's okay.

There.

Shh.

[sighs]

[Socks meows]

[serene piano melody playing]

[Socks meows]

FOR JUDY

[recorder beeps]

[metronome ticking]

[ticking grows louder]

- [plays wrong note]

- [melody stops]

[plays wrong note]

[wrong note plays]

[unsettling music rises]

[wrong note plays]

[ominous strings swell]

[ticking grows louder]

[creaking inside piano]

[woman breathing shakily]

[rustling inside piano]

[breathing tremulously]

[Álex breathing shakily]

[Judy crying softly]

[Judy whispers in French]

[cries]

[Judy whispers] Don't k*ll me.

I'm begging you. [grunting]

Judy

[weakly] Help. Help.

Help me.

Help me.

[ticking grows louder]

[mother]too late.

Álex. Leave this house right this second,

before it's too late.

[gasps] You're running out of time, Álex.

Leave this house right now

before it's too late.

You're running out of time, Álex.

Leave this house. Leave this house.

Leave this house.

Leave this house right now

before it's too late.

- Leave this house.

- What's going on?

You're running out of time, Álex!

- What's going on?

- [mother] Listen to me!

Leave the house. What have they done?

- [young Álex] Mom!

- Álex!

- [inhales sharply]

- [music ends abruptly]

[suspenseful music playing]

[exhales deeply]

[serene piano melody on player]

[birds singing outside]

- [recording stops]

- [sighs]

[Judy] What are you doing up so early?

I couldn't sleep.

Did you have another vision?

[Álex exhales] Um

No, no. I was

[clears throat] I was composing.

[sighs]

FOR JUDY

You were inspired by me?

Does it sound good?

- [recorder beeps]

- [serene piano melody playing]

[eerie music rises]

- [serene melody continues on player]

- [Álex grunts]

- What's the matter?

- [recording stops]

[Álex clicks tongue, exhales deeply]

[somber music playing]

With everything that's going on

With how you treat my kids and me

I don't wanna lose you, Judy.

[gently] I don't wanna lose you.

[kisses]

[Judy sniffles]

A group of 30 people

are checking in at the hostel today,

and I don't want Eva to handle it alone.

We'll talk about all this later, okay?

- Okay.

- I'll finish late but I'll be here.

[sighs deeply]

Álex.

What you said was beautiful.

[engine starts]

[music grows eerie]

MARÍA WOUNDED

[rolling thunder]

FISH RAIN

[thunder rumbles]

BROKEN FENCE

[camera shutter clicks]

MARÍA WOUNDED

BIRD

JUDY TIED UP

LEO AND MARÍA DEAD

BROKEN FENCE

MARRIED COUPLE LIVING IN BRAZIL MISSING

AFTER SAILBOAT SINKS

[Álex sighs]

[music fades]

Morning.

[electronic beeping]

[intermittent beeping]

[man] Okay, it's deleted now.

[Leo] Okay great. Uh, just a second.

Excuse me for a second.

- Hey.

- [Álex] Hey.

Are you allowed to drive?

Well I'm cheating a little bit.

I left the kids sleeping at home,

so I'll have to go back soon.

What's all the fuss?

We're putting a security system

in our house.

I guess we'll have to put up with,

you know

Viviana and Peio teasing us

for a few days.

By the way, they wanna talk to you.

Something about the festival or whatever.

This time, they want you to give a speech.

- These people

- Leo, listen.

- You give them an inch

- [Álex] I need to tell you something.

This is all my fault.

I'm the one who broke

into your house. I'm sorry.

I'm really sorry.

I had another vision.

I wasn't thinking.

- I didn't know what I was doing.

- [man] Call. We'll be here in 20 minutes.

- For security reasons.

- [Álex] Can we talk somewhere?

- Please.

- [María speaking indistinctly]

[tense music playing]

[Leo] Okay, so can you please tell me

exactly what you saw the other night?

Lots of police, the living room

was a mess. There was blood.

You and María were in your bedroom,

both dead.

I didn't tell you earlier

because I didn't wanna seem crazy.

Don't worry about that, man.

You seem crazy now.

Understandable.

Álex, I've known you for a year.

Or nearly a year.

And you seem like a level-headed man.

I don't think you'd make this up,

but let me be clear about one thing.

I know you're doing all this

because you care about us,

but neither María nor I were attacked

or shot last night.

There were no police officers

in our house, just the dog,

which by the way, only got in

because you snuck into our room,

forcing the door.

I believe the door was open.

That's what I'm trying to say.

I was somewhere else,

and in that other place,

the door was open.

Álex, are you listening to yourself?

Yeah. I know exactly how

this sounds to you. I've been there.

We're friends, Leo.

I'm telling you this because I believe

something bad is going to happen to you.

[Leo sighs]

I'm trying to be honest with you.

Fine.

Let's suppose, though chances are slim,

that you're right.

Why tell me now?

How do you think I can help you?

Okay.

It all starts with María knocking

on my door, at my house,

and ends with you dead in the bathroom.

It's all a mess, still.

- So I need to know.

- To know what?

[nervously] If there's anyone

who'd have a reason to hurt you.

Absolutely no one.

- Are you sure, Leo?

- Álex, I think María's right.

You should see someone

to help you interpret those dreams.

Álex, you need to heal.

[camera shutter clicks]

Your ring.

- What?

- This isn't a gimmick, Leo. Your ring.

[Leo] What about it?

"María and Leo. May 12, 2007."

[tense music rises]

That's the day we got married.

How the hell do you know that, Alex?

[Álex] If they were just dreams,

which they're not,

if I had to interpret them,

which I don't want to

I don't know, Leo. Maybe you're the ones

who need help, not me.

[music fades]

[loud dance music playing]

[volume decreases]

- [Bea] Where were you?

- I went to Leo's place, to talk.

By car?

What are you, my mother?

You can't drive, Papa.

- Did you have breakfast?

- No.

Want one?

Sure. Preferably not

a piece coal like those ones.

Funny.

- How do you feel?

- I think I dreamt about the cave.

[thunder rumbles]

Yeah?

[ominous music playing]

And what happened?

I don't remember.

It's fine, son.

[music fades]

- It's fine.

- Hey.

Hey, since you drove

without permission negotiate with me.

Negotiate what?

Well I won't tell Judy

if you take me somewhere with reception.

- I need to talk to Manfred.

- Are you blackmailing me?

Dad, you're not the only man

in my life. Accept it.

[gulls calling]

Hey! [chuckles] It's me.

How are you? [giggles]

You wanna talk to mom?

- [trunk closes]

- [phone beeps]

Don't tell her I'm here with you. [kisses]

Hi, Mom.

[Paula] Hi, sweetie.

- How are you? Where are you guys?

- We're at the lighthouse.

Oh, nice. You with Dad?

No. Papa said he's not here.

He doesn't wanna talk to you.

I'm in the only place

close to the house with cell reception.

I would love to see you play tonight

before I go to sleep.

Let me tell this Milfred guy a few things.

[Bea] Just give me a second.

Nothing. My My dad was pissing me off.

Dedicated how?

Done already?

A lady kept calling you.

I answered. She says it's urgent.

- Hello?

- This is Elena from the agency.

[Álex] Oh, hi.

Someone's coming to clean the basement

and check the pipes in two days.

[Álex] Uh-huh.

By the way, I found out

why those cat bones were in your basement.

Apparently, the previous tenant

was an ornithologist

and he had to leave the house in a rush

because of an incident

with your neighbors.

An incident? With Leo and María?

- Apparently, yeah.

- [eerie music playing]

They say the whole bird watching thing

was just an excuse

to spy on them with his telescope.

- Leo said he didn't know him.

- That's what he told you?

From what I heard,

they even threw punches at each other.

- Really?

- Apparently.

Elena, do you think I could speak

to this ornithologist?

[woman] Here they are! Check them out.

They're very smart birds of prey.

But you can touch them, don't worry.

Their role in nature is very important.

[woman] Birds of prey, or predatory birds,

also known as raptors,

are hyper-carnivorous bird species

that actively hunt and feed

on other vertebrates, mainly mammals,

reptiles, and other smaller birds.

Guys.

- Don't go anywhere. I'll be right back.

- Okay.

[woman] have keen eyesight

for detecting prey from a distance

or during flight.

Strong feet with sharp talons

for grasping or k*lling prey,

and powerful, curved beaks

- [music ends]

- [birds calling]

[Álex] Excuse me. Hi.

Hi.

Are you Iván Saz?

My name's Álex de la Fuente.

I've been trying to get your number,

but I was told you don't have one.

Can I help you?

I'm his sister.

Oh, okay. Sorry. I get it now.

Yeah, well, I mean,

I wanna talk

to your brother about something.

About what?

I was living in that house,

the one you currently live in,

two years ago, on unpaid leave at work.

I was studying the migratory flow

of birds in the north of Spain.

And it's true that one night,

while I was watching

the nests of the birds,

my telescope stopped

at Leo and María's window.

They were making love.

María saw me.

And well, I didn't watch

for more than 20 seconds.

But there was something weird,

something that grabbed my attention.

When María saw me spying on them

and told her husband,

she didn't call him Leo.

She called him Álvaro.

And he called her Alicia.

[eerie music playing]

[barking]

[indistinct conversations]

And, um are you sure of that?

[sister] It's the reason

why I decided to spy some more.

[Álex] What else did you find out?

[sister] That they're a couple

who really love each other,

but they have secrets.

Like a hidden g*n in their greenhouse.

Okay. Leo's grandfather's shotgun

is on display in his living room,

but it doesn't work. Is that it?

No, it's not a shotgun.

I'm sure about it. It was a p*stol.

In fact, one day Leo was cleaning

the greenhouse, and I saw him grabbing it.

He took it home with him.

Later that evening, a van arrived.

A red Citroën Berlingo,

in the middle of the night.

Four armed men got out

and went inside the house.

They spoke.

I couldn't see what they were saying,

They shut the blinds.

I couldn't see anything.

The next day, the four men left.

Leo realized I was spying on them.

He got very angry. He came to my house,

he was very aggressive.

He threatened me, and I

I got a bad feeling,

so I decided to leave.

It was all very sudden, so when I left,

I forgot the cages

you found in the basement.

Mr. Saz, if if I wanted to

if I wanted to watch some birds

like you do, what

what telescope would you recommend?

[suspenseful music playing]

[footsteps approaching]

[indistinct radio chatter]

[Álex] Leo, do you copy?

[static crackles]

Leo, do you copy?

[crickets chirping]

- Hello. Yes, copy. Over.

- [receiver beeps]

Sorry about the time.

I just wanted to ask a favor.

- Did something happen?

- [beeps]

No, no. Nothing serious.

It's just that I found an old notebook

which I think belonged

to the previous tenant.

There's a name in it.

Iván Saz. Could that be right?

Um Álex, I'm having dinner right now.

Besides, I've told you,

um I barely knew him.

Why um

Why do you ask?

What's What's in the notebook?

He mentions two people. Alicia and Álvaro.

Does that ring a bell? Do you know them?

No. No, no.

- Is there anything else in the notebook?

- [beeps]

It's hard to understand.

It looks like it's coded. I don't know.

I know you didn't know him well, but

maybe this is important

and I should give it back to him.

- What do you think?

- I [sighs]

I would throw it away, to be honest.

I don't think it'll be of any use to you.

[receiver beeps]

Right, yeah. If it were important,

he would've asked for it back by now.

Okay. Thanks and sorry for calling

this late. Say hi to María.

- Good night.

- [receiver beeps]

[static crackles]

[music fades]

[menacing music playing]

[speaking inaudibly]

[music fades]

[parking brake clicks]

[tense music playing]

[María speaking indistinctly]

[María] Honey! The alarm?

[Leo] Yeah, I'm getting there.

Give me a sec.

- [María] It's just one thing.

- [Leo] I said I'm doing it, didn't I?

[Álex panting]

[Álex exhales]

[electronic beeping]

[beeping]

[beeping]

[low beeping]

[door locks]

[alarm blaring]

[keypad beeps]

- [alarm stops]

- [door opens]

[Leo] What the f*ck are you doing here?

I asked you a question.

What's this?

A handgun.

And why was it hidden?

Because I don't want María to know.

Who is Alicia Blanchard?

Again with that stuff?

- You didn't throw out the notebook.

- There is no notebook.

Alicia Blanchard was the pseudonym

that María used

many years ago to sign her paintings.

And why did she change it?

She just wanted to.

It's none of your business, anyway.

Maybe it is my business, Leo.

Or should I say, Álvaro?

Huh? What the f*ck

is the meaning of all this?

What are you gonna do, Álex?

Will you sh**t me?

[grunts]

What's goin' on?

Let's go for a ride on the boat.

[mysterious music playing]

[anchor chain clanks]

[mysterious music intensifies]

Are you gonna k*ll me, Leo?

Why did you bring me here?

[somber music playing]

This is where you'll find answers

to some of your questions.

[music fades]

[Leo] You could only have gotten the name

Alicia Blanchard from one place.

That painting is the only reminder

we keep of our former life.

And of our son.

His name was Daniel.

Daniel was born in Brazil in 1998,

two months premature.

The doctors said that's what caused

the heart failure which, uh,

ended up k*lling him.

He only lived for three months.

Like a butterfly.

Back then we were

Álvaro and Alicia.

The pain drove us crazy.

We could never find peace after that.

Until we came here.

Who are you?

I didn't meet María

at the Painter's Square in Caracas,

but in my office.

She was a very different woman back then.

She hadn't even started to paint yet.

María came to me

because she was in trouble.

You're here right now

because you're afraid, Álex.

I was afraid once too.

[club music building]

[excited chatter]

[crowd] Ten, nine,

eight, seven,

six, five, four,

three, two, one

[cheering]

[screaming]

[Leo] Souza.

- [club music fades]

- María came to me because of Souza.

Souza was an unscrupulous criminal.

A drug trafficker capable of anything

to protect his business.

That's why he was known as "The Butcher."

[intense music playing]

[Leo] His real identity

still remains a mystery.

Some said he was Portuguese.

Others, that he was Brazilian

or Colombian.

He gained more power

at the end of the '90s,

on Maracaibo streets.

His business then went through the roof.

He had hundreds of production premises

all across South America.

He spread the distribution across Europe.

All the drugs were transported

through port customs freely

without raising any suspicion.

Souza had control over

all the docks in South America.

He'd use them

to spread his drugs all over the world.

If his boats couldn't reach

a specific place,

he would set up drug apartments.

[woman groans]

[Leo] He'd use those to recruit people

and exploit them as mules.

They would move the drugs across airports.

And that's when our story begins, Álex.

One of those mules was Alicia Blanchard.

Alicia worked for Souza

before she became María.

Until she was arrested at Caracas Airport.

And that's when I became

her government attorney.

At that time, I'd gotten tired of

cleaning up rich people's sh*t, you know?

So one day, I decided

to defend people who had no resources,

who had a lot of bad luck.

Like María.

Interpol offered her a deal

if she betrayed Souza

so they could bring down his network.

They'd give her a new identity.

If she didn't betray him,

she'd spend the rest of her life in jail.

So she did.

So she did.

But then two new problems emerged.

The first one was that Souza found out

what was going on, so he hid.

And he swore revenge.

That changed everything.

Because the second problem emerged.

María and I had fallen in love.

I took all the money I had

and we ran away.

Interpol helped us get new identities,

and they helped come up with

the fake news about our death,

which I'm sure you must've read by now.

The Fury. The sailboat.

Since then, we've been travelling

over half the world,

running from an invisible menace

called Souza.

No matter where we hid

[groaning]

we were always reminded that Souza

was still looking for us.

He would leave a trail of corpses

in the pursuit of finding us.

[man screams]

[Leo] Thanks to that trail,

Interpol was able to shadow him.

Until they finally found him

in Chile and k*lled the b*stard.

The mission wasn't made public

because they're still dismantling

his network.

That ornithologist guy witnessed

the visit of Interpol.

But I'm sure he told you about that too.

The four armed men

who came in the Citroën Berlingo.

Exactly.

- What if it was a setup?

- We saw the photo of his corpse.

María recognized him.

Souza's gone now.

This handgun represents

everything we've been running away from

for years.

And now I'll show you

that we're not scared anymore.

Follow me.

[Álex] What are you doing?

What I should've done long ago.

No

Listen, Álex I don't know

if it's your brain or God talking to you

through those visions

that you say you have,

but you hurt me a lot today.

I just wanna protect you.

I just wanna protect you two.

Think about it, Leo.

How could I know about the ring?

- Because I took it off, Álex.

- No

When we were fixing that broken fence

that you say you saw in your dreams,

I took the ring off.

I took it off.

[tense music playing]

[Leo] I was playing with it

while you were talking about your kids.

I took it off, Álex.

And just with that, you set up

a whole horror movie in your head.

I swear I didn't see the inscription.

You don't even know what you're seeing,

so how can you be sure about this?

I'm gonna tell you one last time, Álex.

From now on

you will let us live in peace.

[dramatic music playing]

[music fades slowly]

What're you doing here?

- Where were you?

- Why?

Because you left your kids alone at home.

I went to the lighthouse.

I needed reception. Why? Something happen?

They're sleeping.

I've been here for two hours.

I saw you, um, coming back with Leo.

I was with Leo, yeah.

Because I think that

I thought that

I'd discovered something

that could explain

everything that's happening to me.

But Leo helped me realize I was wrong.

What if

none of this is real?

Álex

That would mean I'm a f*cking madman

who thinks he can see the future.

- Realize where that'd leave me?

- You can't go on.

That would leave me where my mother is.

- You need to let yourself be helped.

- I had another vision.

- And why didn't you tell me about it?

- Because I saw you.

You were tied up and scared.

Tied up how?

- Tied up how?

- Forget it.

Tell me.

Hands and feet tied up.

In a fetal position.

You were mumbling something

and asking me to help you.

Well, not me.

Someone who wanted to k*ll you.

You were begging for them not to do it.

Hey What's wrong?

Was there anyone else there?

What? No.

Hey.

Judy, I'm sorry.

- I'm leaving.

- Wait.

- No. Don't touch me.

- Wait, listen to me.

- I

- Don't touch me.

- I'm sorry. What's wrong?

- Don't touch me.

Listen, Judy,

I can get help tomorrow. I swear.

- Judy.

- [somber string music playing]

[Judy sighs]

[men's voices echoing]

[men laughing]

[men speaking indistinctly]

[man 1] You get up from your beauty sleep?

- [man 2] I still have a hard-on.

- [man 3] Think I should be a director?

- [voices fade]

- [Judy panting]

[sobbing]

[Judy continues sobbing]

[somber piano music playing]

[Judy wailing]

[music fades]

BROKEN FENCE

[Álex sighs]

[thunder rumbles]

[tense music playing]

[Sultán barking]

[gasps]

- [silenced shot]

- [Sultán whimpers]

[beeps]

[r*fle c*ck]

- [g*n fires]

- [music dies down]

[g*nf*re]

[intense music building]

[loud thudding]

[María shouting indistinctly]

[Álex gasps]

[María panting]

[groans]

[thunder rumbles]

[María shuddering]

[weakly] Leo. Leo.

[groaning]

María. María. Hey.

Hey. What's wrong?

Leo. Leo.

[grunts]

[static crackles]

Leo. Leo, are you there?

- Leo!

- [g*nf*re]

[gasps]

[sinister music playing]

[panting]

[engine starts]

We have to go!

We have to go!

Wake up!

Everyone up!

Wake up!

Come on, wake up!

Get your brother!

Go downstairs! Now!

- Judy!

- What happened?

- Judy! Judy!

- Álex.

- It's happening! They're coming!

- What?

- Who?

- Go get the kids! Put them in the car!

- Now? Who's coming?

- Go!

What's wrong? What happened?

Are you okay? Huh?

[Álex] No!

Go! Get in the car! Now!

- [Judy] Come on.

- [grunts]

Come on, hang in there.

Hang in Hang in there.

Come on.

[Álex panting]

[Judy] Let's go, kids. Come on.

- [thunder stops]

- [music ends abruptly]

[tense music rises]

[thunder rumbling]

[vehicle approaching]

[engine starts]

[tires squeal]

- Álex. Álex. Watch out!

- Stop, Dad!

[all shouting]

- [car thuds]

- [all panting]

[engine turns off]

It can't be.

It can't be.

[crickets chirping]

[unsettling music playing]

My car wasn't there.

You were about to crash into it.

What about the rain?

What rain?

The rain.

[somber music playing]

[music intensifies]

[music grows sinister]

[inhales sharply]

[softly] Stay here.

Okay. Okay.

I swear to you, I saw five hooded men

stepping out of a red van,

walking into Leo and María's house.

They started sh**ting at them.

Then one of those men

got in the van and was coming towards us.

They wanted to hurt us.

Maybe because of María.

But

[erratic breathing]

None of that matters anymore.

Because it was all in my head.

None of it was real.

It's over now, Álex. It's over.

No.

No.

I saw what happened to my mother.

This has only just begun.

Earlier, when you

when you told me

about the vision you had of me

Tell me what you saw again.

[Álex] I've already hurt you enough.

Please, just tell me what you saw.

[unsettling music playing]

You were tied up. Hands and feet.

You were begging for your life.

But it it wasn't you. You weren't there.

I told you. It was someone else.

You were on the brink of death.

I have been, Álex.

Some time ago,

exactly how you described it too.

What?

I was dead once.

[unsettling music swells]

[music fades]

[somber piano music playing]

[eerie string music playing]

[music fades]
