Journey to You (2025)

Post by bunniefuu »

Doctor.

Okay..

Great work, Anthony!

Hi!

Thank you, Marcus.

Dot...

Is this really necessary,

Monica?

I have to get back to my desk.

I don't trust that new kid

answering the phones.

"That new kid"?

Marcus?

He's been working here,

what, five years?

Which is, like, one month,

compared to my 45 years

as head receptionist.

Yeah, well... [sighs]

I have some bad news for you.

You're not gonna be

answering any more phones today.

You sprained it pretty badly.

How'd you do this?

Got into a fight

with a filing cabinet.

Believe it or not...

I won!

[laughs]

Have you met

the new practice manager?

Um, not officially.

I'll be fine.

Go. Introduce yourself.

Straight home!

And don't think

I won't find out.

Hi. I'm Monica Miller.

Alex Blake.

Uh, walk with me?

Let me know if you need help

finding your way around.

It can be a bit of a maze.

That's why they say

you are the person you go to

with any questions.

You know, uh, by the way,

I was going over

the personnel files,

and I noticed that

you haven't taken...

any vacation

in, what, four years?

Yeah, that's right.

Wow.

I guess I'd rather

spend my time with the patients

than gallivanting

through Europe.

Which, I suppose,

is commendable.

This place depends on me.

I don't wanna leave

the hospital high and dry...

I'm sure you understand.

Of course.

That's why you have a team.

You know,

I actually just got back

from, um, "gallivanting"

through Italy

with my family for two weeks,

and other than the jet-lag,

I've never felt more ready

to take on my new role.

Sometimes, you just need

a break, you know?

I'm sorry.

I didn't mean it like that. I...

Oh. No, no, don't worry at all.

Just, um... promise me

you'll think about it.

I promise.

Okay, nice to meet you.

Likewise!

Hi!

Hi, Mo.

- Aw.

- How are you?

Good to see you.

You too, Mom.

How was your hiking trip?

Canada was breathtaking.

You would've loved it.

Hmm.

Okay.

Something's up. What's going on?

[sighs]

I didn't get the promotion.

But I thought you were a shoo-in

for the Practice Manager?

So did I.

They hired

a very nice woman named Alex.

Oh, I'm so sorry, honey.

I just thought,

"If I work so hard,

that it will ensure

I get the promotion,"

and then,

once I got the promotion,

I... I'll know I made it.

"Made it"?

To where, exactly?

To the point

that made it all worth it?

To the top of the mountain

I've been climbing

all these years.

Oh, sweetie.

It's not about reaching the top.

All the good stuff happens

while you're on the journey.

Listen, love.

Making it...

it's not about a job promotion.

It's about balance...

and joy.

[chuckles]

Chasing the next big win

never gives us the satisfaction

we think it will.

You didn't say that

when you wanted us to compete

on the Amazing Race.

The only reason

they didn't choose us

is because it wouldn't be

a fair race for anyone else.

Wait, you submitted us?

I did.

- Hello.

- Oh, hello.

Hi. Would you like

something to drink?

Yes. Um...

a double espresso

with no milk or sugar, please.

- Okay.

- Thank you.

I wonder if he's single.

Mom.

What? You can't blame me

for trying to play matchmaker.

I don't remember the last time

I had coffee with a girlfriend,

let alone had time for a date.

You give so much

to everyone else.

What about giving something

to yourself?

If not romance,

how about

we talk about a vacation?

I know exactly

where you should go...

the Camino de Santiago.

The Camino?

Mom, that's...

that's more of a pilgrimage

than a vacation.

Do you really think walking

hundreds of miles in Spain

is a good way to get

the rest and relaxation I need?

I know it sounds strange,

but it will heal you in ways

you can't even begin to imagine.

You know, um...

your dad and I...

we were both at a crossroads

when we first met on the Camino,

searching for something more.

And who knows?

Maybe you find love there too...

taking some time to relax.

I am relaxed.

Your double espresso.

[Monica] Thank you.

Don't give me that look.

I'll think about it.

"Think" about it.

[Olivia chuckles]

Go ahead.

No, no.

It's not like that.

This...

has to show up, up there.

See it?

Now it gets all messed up.

Okay, look...

Mom?

I'm in.

I'll go on the Camino.

[in Spanish]

Buen Camino!

[chuckles awkwardly]

[phone rings]

[man] Look at it.

That is incredible.

- I don't know what that is.

- Hi, Mom!

Oh, you're finally

on the Camino!

Well, almost, anyway.

This village is stunning.

Ah, it's like stepping

back in time, isn't it?

Soak it all in, honey.

Must feel good

to be traveling again.

Remember, back in college,

when you dreamt

of seeing the world?

Did I remember to tell Alex

about the post-op schedule?

Honey. They'll be fine.

Well, so I've been told.

Did you bring the devotional?

Oh! I did. Thanks, Mom.

Now, I know

a daily mindfulness journal

isn't your usual thing,

but your dad picked it out

before he passed...

for a time when you'd need it.

This seems like it.

"Monica,

you don't have to be certain

to take a leap.

In fact, it's better not to be.

The opposite of faith

isn't doubt...

"it's certainty."

He loved that saying.

I remember.

But, in my mind,

he always seemed so certain.

Well, certainty and, uh...

and trust can seem

like similar things,

but they're not.

Your dad always

trusted the journey,

even when he didn't know

where God was leading,

and that's what he wanted

for you, too, Monica...

to know

that who you are right now

is enough to start.

I'll try to remember that.

Oh, I better get going.

I'm meeting Consuelo

at 9:30.

Oh! Oh! Don't forget

your, uh, Pilgrim Passport, huh?

Oh, right. Thanks.

Love you!

Bye, love.

Morning.

Morning!

First time?

Is it that obvious?

[chuckles] No,

but I've worked here

a long time, and there's a...

there's a different kind of look

in the eyes of

those who haven't walked before.

Is it a look of delusion?

[chuckles]

More of

a nervous uncertainty, I'd say.

Yeah, that tracks as well.

Does it?

Don't worry.

I can tell you're going to have

a beautiful Camino...

Camino hermoso...

you'll see.

So, important...

this is your...

Pilgrim Passport, okay?

Every time

you arrive to a new town,

make sure to get it stamped.

At the end, you will present it

at the Pilgrim's

Reception Office

in Santiago de Compostela

to receive your official

Compostela certificate.

This has been a tradition

for over 1,000 years.

- Wow!

- Mm-hmm!

- [chuckles]

- Thank you.

You're welcome.

Buen Camino!

Gracias.

De nada.

- Bye.

- Bye.

Oof! Don't wanna be late.

[couple speaking Spanish]

Um, Consuelo?

No. No, no soy Consuelo.

Lo siento.

Te puedo ayudar con algo?

Uh, sorry.

Do you speak English?

English, French,

German, Spanish...

whatever you'd like.

[chuckles]

Wow. I really should've

paid more attention

in high-school Spanish.

Um, I'm looking

for my tour guide

and the rest of my group.

I... I think

they might be running late.

Being punctual is rarely

possible on the Camino.

Give them some time.

If it gets too late,

you can always

head to your accommodation

and wait for them there.

They'll assume

you decided to go ahead.

Oh... okay.

Thank you.

[chuckles] Bye.

[reading to self]

"Set your heart"

to wait with trust,

and not with

a lack of confidence

in His ability or willingness

"to move on your behalf."

Okay...

message received, God.

"Would you consider yourself

a patient person?

Why or why not?"

Well...

30 minutes.

I'd say I was more than patient.

[zips bag]

All right...

Let's see...

[GPS navigator]

Starting walking route.

Estimated time two hours.

In 9 metres, turn right.

Turn right,

and continue straight

for 4.8 kilometres.

No. You gotta be kidding me.

Continue straight.

C... [sighs]

[huffs]

Uh, can...

can I help you?

Oh, I'm... I'm fine, thanks.

Did you get lost on your way in?

- By the way, I'm...

- "Lost"?

I know...

I know exactly where I am.

Why would you assume I'm lost?

Just a hunch.

Oh...

There is our lost pilgrim!

- Consuelo?

- Yes!

- Oh.

- Monica!

Aww...

You look even more beautiful

than the picture

Olivia sent of you.

Thank you for finding her, Luis.

Oh, uh...

Yeah. Yeah.

I-I wasn't actually lost.

My GPS just kind of rerouted me.

GPS can be clever,

but you've heard about

the Yellow Brick Road?

Here, we follow

the yellow arrows.

If you see those,

or the scallop shell symbol,

you know

you're on the right path.

Okay?

Okay.

Good.

For the record...

"rerouting" is just a fancy way

of saying "lost".

You're really enjoying this,

aren't you?

Monica, you've already met Luis.

Let me introduce you

to the rest of your compaeros.

This is Ernesto...

Luis's father.

- Encantado.

- Nice to meet you.

And this is Mateo, Luis's son,

and our youngest pilgrim.

- Hi.

- Hi.

We're glad

you finally made it, Monica.

Oh, uh...

actually, I was here on time.

I waited about 30 minutes,

and then I headed out on my own.

Didn't go as planned, but I...

It's okay, querida.

We didn't mind waiting for you.

N-No. I-I was here at 9:30.

[Ernesto] Really?

If you started without us,

how did you end up back here?

Uh...

Oh, uh,

her GPS rerouted her, Dad.

Oh, GPS. I see.

Yeah, I heard there were

some... trail closures?

- Hmm.

- Yeah.

This is what happens

when pilgrims

keep their eyes on a screen.

Isn't that right, Mateo?

Not sure if this even

qualifies as a screen, Abuelo.

It was a compromise, Dad.

Okay? I didn't let him

bring his smartphone.

[Mateo]

Yeah, so I got Dad's old relic.

It barely does anything.

[scoffs] Don't act like

you're not enjoying

playing "Snake" on that thing.

Snake? I mean, what are you...

{[Ernesto] I don't really care

what kind of phone it is.

What's the point of a pilgrimage

if you're not disconnecting?

- Your abuelo has a point...

- It's okay. It's okay.

Boys.

That's enough for today.

Let's go.

Those three have been bickering

since we left France.

Don't worry.

You'll get used to it.

Mm.

And you'll also get used

to the Camino

having a path of its own.

You can plan all you want,

but, sometimes, it just has...

other ideas.

Right.

Of course.

But... you know what?

If it's okay,

I would love to try

to stick to my itinerary...

you know, make the most

of the Camino.

Qu inocente!

- Um...

- What?

In that case,

we better get going! Yeah?

Vamonos! Prego.

Vamonos!

Your mother told me

you work in an emergency room.

That must be

a very fast-paced job.

Very. It's part of

what I like about it.

This must be quite

the change of pace for you then.

Yes.

I'm not used

to going this... slowly.

Mm. The Camino has

its own rhythm,

and it's not always going to be

the rhythm we expect... or want.

Well, as long as

I don't miss anything important.

Do you think we'll still make it

to the village by sunset?

I heard

it has a spectacular view.

We'll arrive after dark.

The sunset may be gone,

but the moon always shows up

with its own kind of beauty.

Perhaps...

view this journey

as a challenge for yourself.

The Camino

is not meant to be easy.

That's it... I'm not

challenging myself enough.

Yeah.

Yeah! Do you mind

if I walk ahead of the group?

If I pick up the pace,

I think

I can get there by sunset.

[words catch]

Yes, of course. Yeah.

We wouldn't want you

to miss anything important.

Thank you. Okay.

Why let her rush off like that?

The Camino

is not a... an obstacle course.

Every pilgrim

has their own walk...

and perhaps

you would get more

out of your own walk

if you shifted

a bit of your focus

from others to yourself.

[giggles]

[yelps]

[grunts]

- Re-routing again?

- I got it.

[Monica groans]

[chuckling]

Heads up!

Here.

Oh, thank you.

You guys caught up quickly.

[Luis] Well, you hadn't

gotten that far yet.

Um, thank you.

Oh, it's okay. I got it.

Hey, just let me help.

Oh, there you go.

Thank you.

Sure.

You're, uh... [laughs]

You're not really good

at accepting help, huh?

Uh...

I don't usually need

this much of it in my real life.

How much easier

would life be, though,

if you had someone to help you

put your shoes on every day?

[laughs]

Now that you mention it,

I don't know how

I've gone this long without it.

[chuckling]

Shall we?

Yeah.

Rushing through the Camino...

this is, you know, like...

like rushing to church.

It's meant to be slow.

It allows you the space

to-to breathe.

These days,

everyone is in a rush.

Everyone!

They...

They distract themselves

with-with everything,

in order to not to sit

with their own thoughts.

Believe it or not...

I agree with you.

Yeah! I believe.

I could have reminded Monica

that the Camino

is not meant to be rushed...

- Of course.

- but I find

wisdom often finds pilgrims

best on its own.

Yeah, well, you say so.

Consuelo?

Mm-hmm?

Seems like

the Camino doesn't want me

to go ahead on my own, huh?

Ah, ha-ha!

The less you fight its rhythm,

the quicker you will learn

to dance with it.

[Monica chuckles]

[Luis exhales contentedly]

Thank you, again,

for your help back there.

Walking the Camino with one shoe

is a challenge,

even for me.

[chuckling]

Hey, I'm just glad

we got your shoe back.

I lost my day pack

a couple days back

and, uh, before

I even had a chance

to, like, try and grab it,

the river just took it.

Oh! What was in it?

Nothing important.

Little notebook, some snacks...

a Divorce for Dummies book.

[snickering]

Oh, you're being serious?

Oh, I'm... I'm sorry.

It's okay.

I've read more than

my fair share on the subject.

It's just the "how to not

mess up your kid" chapter

that I'm re-reading

for the hundredth time.

[chuckles]

It was amicable,

but I just worry about

how it's all affecting Matty.

Well, I'm sure

watching you two

walk through it with love

is helping him a lot.

Thanks.

Definitely sounds a lot better

than my current inner monologue.

So...

where's home for you?

Boston.

No.

Me too.

What?

Yeah!

That is

such a crazy coincidence.

Ah...

the longer I'm on this Camino,

the less I believe

in coincidences.

Mm. Or it-it could be

that my mom and your family

used the same travel agency

to find Consuelo.

No, my dad met Consuelo

through a mutual friend

here in Spain.

Couple more days on the Camino

and, uh, you might start

to think differently.

Thank you.

How long

have you guys been walking?

Seven days.

Hmm.

And what's something

you've seen differently so far?

Well, I think my initial reasons

for coming on the Camino

are nothing more than, like,

a superficial,

surface-level interpretation

of the actual reasons

why we're here.

There's a lot more to unpack

on this journey

than you might think.

"A lot more to unpack."

Spoken like a true intellectual.

- [laughs]

- And...

I'm gonna guess...

a therapist?

Psychologist, actually.

Oh!

And what brings you here,

"Dr. Luis"?

Well, ten days ago,

I would've told you it was

to spend more time with family.

And today?

I don't think

I have an answer for you,

but I definitely know

it's a lot more

than, you know,

three generations

of Albuerne men

on some sort of homecoming trip.

You said homecoming?

Are you from here?

Yeah. I, uh,

I grew up here.

Well, till I was

about eight, anyway.

We'll actually be passing

right through my village soon.

That is so cool.

I cannot wait to see it!

Yeah, same.

It's been a while.

Hmm.

You know, when we left,

my dad wanted a fresh start,

but he never really

let go of Spain.

He talked about it constantly.

Always, uh, wanted us three

to take this family-bonding trip

together.

And how's the bonding

going so far?

Let's just say it's not

exactly the way I envisioned.

Matty is in search of Wi-Fi

instead of wisdom,

and my dad has other ideas.

Where does that leave you?

Somewhere in the middle.

Trying to meet

their expectations,

while simultaneously

trying to figure out my own.

[Luis chuckles dryly]

Sounds like

there's a lot to unpack there.

[laughs]

Hola! Bienvenidos!

Perfect timing!

Gracias.

Gracias molta.

Dinner's almost ready.

- Oh, good!

- Who's hungry?

Consuelo,

were the inns along the Camino

always made for the pilgrims?

Many of them, yes,

including this one...

but inns are not

the only accommodations.

Many families choose

to open their homes to pilgrims.

Claro.

We used to host pilgrims

all the time

at the... at our house,

before we moved to the U.S.

I read that judges

used to sentence prisoners

to walk the Camino

as a form of penance.

I can relate.

Matty, my mom did not exactly

give me much of an option

about coming

on the Camino either.

Okay, how about we play a game?

Who's up for some Verdad o Reto?

- Oh, yeah.

- [chuckling]

"Truth or Dare."

Oh, that sounds

much less intimidating

when you say it in English.

[chuckling]

Okay, I'll go first.

Monica, truth or dare?

Well, it was less intimidating

for a minute.

- [laughter]

- Um...

truth, I guess?

So, Monica...

who are you?

I am

a nurse practitioner

at an emergency room.

My hospital's just outside

Boston, Massachusetts.

No, no, no, no, no.

Not what are you...

but who actually are you,

Monica Miller?

Who... am I?

As you can see,

we don't really do small talk

on the Camino.

We get deep very quickly.

Okay, why don't we just

do something a little simpler?

All right, what is something

you enjoy doing outside of work?

Well, I don't get

outside of work much these days.

Um...

I actually can't remember

the last time

I did something

just for the fun of it.

Um, in the past,

did you have any hobbies

or things

that you really enjoyed doing?

Mm-mm.

Actually...

I did take a pottery class

in college,

on a whim, and I loved it.

- Ooh!

- Oh...

[Monica] The hours would

fly by like minutes.

An artist a!

- How wonderful!

- I-I don't...

Why did you stop?

If I'm honest, it always felt

slightly self-indulgent.

I felt like I should've been

doing something more productive.

[Ernesto] When will

your generation learn

that one of the most productive

things you can do in life

is slow down.

The only hustle

you should be familiar with

is the dance.

Mm.

Ava!

Sube la msica!

Vale.

[turns music up]

I used to love that dance!

[chuckling]

Remember, Ernesto?

- Oh...

- I dare you to join me!

[chuckling]

Yeah.

Oh...

[Consuelo] Have you never

been in a hostel before?

I guess not.

Oh! Well... [chuckles]

in that case,

here you go.

Uh...

- Yeah.

- Thank you.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, yeah, you're gonna

need those earplugs, trust me.

[Luis chuckles]

Goodnight, Monica.

Goodnight.

Hey...

just heard the Sox

went to extra innings.

Won by a run.

That's so cool, Dad.

I thought you'd like that.

Mm-hmm.

Nice work.

Goodnight, kid.

[smooch]

[loud snoring]

[snoring loudly]

[sighing darkly]

Mmph!

[exhaling irately]

[snoring persists]

[Monica] "List a few things

you're thankful for today."

I didn't sleep great,

but I'm definitely grateful

that Consuelo gave me earplugs.

Without them,

I wouldn't have slept at all.

"Do you prefer to feel

capable or dependent?

What situations

bring this out the most?"

Why do I feel like

this question was made for me?

Capable. Always capable.

Depending on someone

feels like admitting defeat.

Although, I am very grateful

that Luis saved my shoe

from the ravine.

Thought I might

find you out here!

Oh. Good morning!

Morning.

I'm not interrupting, am I?

No. No, no, no.

I was almost done.

I'm trying

to do a devotional every day,

to be more mindful.

Funny.

I also have a list of intentions

that I go through every morning.

Look at us, trying to get

the most out of our Camino.

At this point,

I'd settle for Matty thinking

I'm not the least-cool dad

on the planet.

What?

You brought him to Spain

for a month

for a backpacking trip.

That is pretty cool!

Yeah, by "backpacking trip,"

you mean

"spiritual pilgrimage

with Grandpa and Dad."

Okay, yep, see what you mean.

Uh, by the way, coffee's ready.

You wanna head back?

Yes. Yeah!

Oh! Thank you.

Of course.

This reminds me of being a kid.

It does!

Oh... thank you.

Boom!

[laughing]

Oh, this is beautiful.

Oh...

Oh ! Buenos das, campaeros!

Good morning!

Buenos das.

How did those earplugs

work out, Monica?

Good.

Dad, you really need to start

using those nasal strips

that I got you.

[Ernesto]

Why would I need to do that?

Your mother never once said

that I snored.

'Cause that woman was a saint.

Yeah.

You were putting on

an entire symphony last night.

No! No, no, no, no.

You're-You're...

You-You're wrong.

It-It was, at most,

two beautiful chords.

Hey, let's-let's say a prayer

before we go, okay?

Claro, Pap.

Another one?

[sighs]

Look, I'm sorry, just...

I don't know

if I really believe in all that.

More of a reason to pray, then.

If... If you are uncertain,

the last thing you should do

is close off

your conversation with God,

especially considering

how helpful

divine intervention could be

with this teenage attitude

of yours.

Okay, okay...

why don't we all just have

a nice little quiet moment

of reflection?

Reflection is not

the same thing as prayer.

Yeah.

Ernesto?

Um...

my dad always used to say...

it's in stillness

that we're open

to that communication with God.

[softly]

Yeah. Yeah, that's it.

Do you mind if I join you?

No, of course not.

Sure, yeah.

Me too.

Oh, yes.

[exhaling deeply]

We take this moment

to reflect

and to give thanks to God

for all our blessings.

[Consuelo] Thank you, Ernesto.

Shall we go?

- Yes.

- Claro.

Dad, this old iPod thing

is so lame.

I don't know any of these bands.

What's N-S-Y-N-C?

- Oh...

- Oh, NSYNC?

You're a big NSYNC fan, huh?

I have no idea

how that got on there.

Why did you let him bring that?

He-He should be listening

to the sounds of nature,

and-and not drowning it all

with music.

Dad, he's a teenager.

I think it's okay

if he listens to some music.

Yeah, if you consider

"Ani DiFranco's feminist poetry"

as music.

[sighs] It was a weird time.

I was going through a breakup.

Mm-hmm.

[sighs tensely]

Hey, I'm sorry you feel

caught in the middle,

but I think you're handling it

better than you realize.

Thank you.

[chuckles]

Oh, I'm trying my best.

Ahh, you know, I used to think

I had it all together...

it was career...

parenthood, marriage.

Mm.

Then, after the divorce...

it just feels like

I've been chasing

this idea of

what life's supposed to be,

and failing miserably.

Who tricked us into thinking

there is one specific way

life had to be?

Our parents.

Society.

Mm-hmm. '90s rom-come.

[laughs]

I mean...

Meg, Julia, Sandra...

Uh-huh?

they all had me convinced

that I would be

married with kids,

running an ad agency

by the time I was 29.

Why was it always an ad agency?

Yeah!

Or editor of a magazine.

- Right.

- Neither of which spoke to me.

Did you always know

you wanted to be

in the medical field?

Ever since I was young.

And then, when I got there,

it became my whole life...

until I was passed over

for a promotion

I thought I was gonna get,

and then I started

to question everything.

You know, I thought

I knew my purpose,

and then, suddenly...

I didn't.

Well, I think

that's 'cause we're told

that life follows this,

like, linear path. Right?

You get the job,

meet the person,

have the kid, buy the house.

Doesn't work that way.

You can "have it all"

one moment,

the next...

I'm not even sure I know what

"having it all" means anymore.

Me neither.

I think I was always so focused

on the next great thing...

I missed all the great stuff

in front of me.

Hmm!

I think in the midst

of trying to figure it all out,

I've done the same.

But I don't wanna live life

like that anymore, you know?

I don't really wanna miss out

on all the great things

that are happening

right in front of me,

ever again.

This is beautiful.

[Monica] Stunning.

[Consuelo]

I think a break is in order.

Who's up for

a peaceful rest by the river?

[Monica] Oh, me! Hang on.

[all chuckling]

Uh, you guys good on water?

Well, I'm running low,

but I don't think

we can drink that.

Oh, you can drink that,

as long as you've got

one of these...

tch-tch, water filter!

I could use some water.

All right. Yes, sir.

Oh, yes, please.

I'd love some,

if you don't mind.

Absolutely.

Oh, this is perfect.

Not bad.

[sighs deeply]

That's really good!

Oh, it's nothing.

I'm just bored.

Oh.

So, why'd your mom force you

to go on the Camino?

Want the honest answer?

I won't tell anybody.

I think she's afraid

that if she doesn't get me

away from work

and out of the house...

in this case,

out of the country...

[laughs]

that I'll end up

sad and alone,

and dwelling on a promotion

I didn't get.

What about you?

Kinda the same thing, honestly,

but a little bit more in

the loner/teenager type of way...

- [laughs]

- if you get what I mean.

I do get what you mean.

Guess we're just

a couple of loners,

forced to exist

outside of our comfort zones.

[chuckling]

You're putting too much pressure

on Luis and Mateo.

They are not walking the path

the exact way you want them to,

but that doesn't mean

they're lost.

The way I was raised...

it was so different

from these younger generations.

You know?

Traditions mattered.

Faith mattered...

and respect mattered!

It sounds like

what you're upset about

is this morning with Mateo.

No, no, no! No, it-it's...

it's not only Mateo,

it's Luis, too.

'Cause he...

he should have shown Mateo

how important

faith and family are.

[deep breath]

He brought Mateo here...

and took a month

off from his life

to spend it with his father

and son,

didn't he?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh, great.

You okay?

Yeah, yeah. I'm good.

I got it.

No. Here, let me...

Oh, no, I'm all right.

I can help carry some of that.

You know I like a challenge.

Challenge yourself to accept

a little help, then, huh?

You don't always have to carry

everything on your own.

Okay. Thank you.

You know,

I could carry something, too.

You sure?

Oh, yeah, look at this kid...

he is in great shape.

He'll be on the football team

next year.

Still have to make

the team, Dad.

It's not gonna be

a problem, buddy.

Is this an espresso maker?

Yeah.

That is for everybody,

'cause nobody wants to see me

without coffee.

[chuckling]

Hey, thank you both.

I guess I did pack

a little too much luggage.

Mi nia, that's not luggage...

that's baggage.

[Luis chuckling]

- [Monica gasps]

- Yeah.

Her and her one-liners!

I know.

She's quite the comedian.

Thank you.

- Yeah!

- That's better.

Much better, right?

Yeah.

Come on, kid.

"When we feel

exhausted and overworked..."

Tell me about it.

"If you experience

emotional exhaustion,

do you notice a difference

when you take a step back

emotionally

and ask God to take

the weight off your shoulders?"

[chuckles]

To be honest...

trusting doesn't come naturally

to me.

But I'm learning...

it's not

about carrying less,

it's...

it's about

not carrying it alone.

"List a few things

you're thankful for today."

The kindness of strangers.

The beauty of slowing down...

and remembering

parts of myself I'd forgotten.

Wow.

[sniffling]

Mom and Dad...

You were right here!

[Consuelo]

This inn has private rooms.

Oh!

Private rooms?

So, there'll be

no snoring tonight.

Just in Ernesto's room!

- [all laughing]

- Okay, okay, okay.

Wha-What...

What's the bad news?

It's not necessarily bad.

So far,

all the inns we've stayed at

have provided meals,

but this one does not.

Is there a restaurant nearby?

Actually,

it's the custom at this inn

that pilgrims cook together,

and cooking together can be

as much a part of the journey

as the walking!

Ah!

Oh...

Okay, um...

so, the only thing is,

I barely know how to boil water.

Yeah, yeah.

And my cooking is, uh...

microwaving pizzas.

Somehow, he even burns those.

[chuckles]

I'm really

the only one who cooks here?

No, no, no.

I might be able to help.

Oh?

Yeah! What the...?

It seems we have, uh...

Dnde estn los gambas?

The gambas are in the fridge?

Okay. There they are!

Ha-ha! I think we have

everything we need for paella.

Wait, wait.

Sabes cmo cocinar

paella, pap?

Yes.

How could I not pick up

a thing or two...

watching your mother

all those years, hmm?

Come on. Vamonos.

Corta estas zanahorias.

- Okay.

- I can... I can wash something.

Mm!

Dad...

how is this the first time

I'm ever tasting your cooking?

It really

is incredible, Ernesto.

Five stars!

- Yeah.

- Thank you.

It's clear

you have a natural gift.

When I was younger, uh...

cooking was-wasn't seen,

you know,

as a... as a "man's thing",

especially in my father's eyes,

but I secretly...

always loved it.

I, um, I get it.

Sometimes, the things

that we, um, care about

aren't the things

that we feel like

we're supposed to care about.

Theoretically, I mean!

Um...

Abuelo, you should open

your own restaurant.

Hmm!

You are too kind, Mateo,

but, uh...

well, I-I'm grateful to...

to have the chance

to explore it here

on the Camino.

Better late than never.

Mm-hmm!

If there is ever a time

to explore something

you've been hesitant about,

it's definitely on the Camino.

[Monica] I'm starting

to see why people love this...

the walking,

the slowing down.

I have to admit...

this trip has

definitely softened the blow

of the promotion.

I mean, I don't know

if I would say

it was for the best

that I didn't get it,

but maybe

it's not the worst thing.

Well, considering

you might not have

come on the Camino otherwise,

in my professional opinion,

of course, um...

I definitely think

it was for the best.

Everyone...

today would be a good day

to start looking for your stone

for the Cruz de Ferro.

The... "the Cruz de Ferro"?

Mm-hmm.

Oh, yeah. It's, um...

it's this place where

many pilgrims

leave their burdens...

you know, things

that no longer serve them.

Regrets, fears...

anything weighing you down.

[Consuelo] Yeah,

it's a very powerful tradition.

Everyone who walks the Camino

has something

they need to release.

It's a...

it's a way of starting fresh.

So you just pick up any stone?

How do you know

if it's the right one?

Does it have to be a stone?

Not necessarily.

It just has to be something

that can represent

what you are letting go.

When you find the right one,

or the right thing...

you will know.

Yes? Okay, let's go!

No...

[exhaling anxiously]

Look what I found...

a tiny little...

espresso... what...

whoa, everything okay?

No. I can't find my devotional.

I think I left it

in the last inn.

[sighing]

It's...

It's really important to me,

because it's the last thing

my dad gave me

before he passed.

Oh, I'm sorry.

Well, hey, let's...

let's go back and get it.

Well...

we can't walk back all that way.

We can't backtrack that far.

Leave me to it.

Uber for Monica?

Wha...?

You know, just because

you're my dad

does not mean you get to make

so many dad jokes.

We can't help it, Mateo.

Once you become a dad...

the dad jokes

comes with the job.

Yeah, he's right, you know.

[chuckles]

So, okay, I think we, uh...

we'll head back to the inn,

we'll grab the devotional,

and, uh, we should be back

right after sunset.

Buena suerte.

Yeah!

See you guys.

All right!

Buen Camino!

Oh, when the night's

getting cold

I'll be the one...

This was definitely unexpected.

It's a nice change

from all that walking, huh?

Chasing the light...

Chasing the light

I found my way

back to the sun again

Whoa, oh

Whoa, oh...

Gracias.

- You good?

- Yeah!

Gracias.

- Gracias.

- It's like we were just here.

[chuckling]

Oh...

Yeah, it doesn't look good.

Here you go.

Oh, gracias!

- Ah, you are welcome.

- Oh!

- Buen Camino!

- Oh, gracias!

[Mateo] You guys okay?

Yeah, no, we're good.

- We're just, uh...

- [thunder crashing]

hiding out at the inn.

When do you guys think

you'll be back?

Actually, that's why

I'm calling.

Um, it's...

storm's a little too intense

to try to get back tonight,

so it looks like we're gonna

have to stay here tonight.

They're gonna stay at the inn.

They're gonna

wait out the storm.

- Huh.

- It's for the best.

All right, Dad.

We all think it's a good idea.

Oh, also, where are

the extra ear buds?

They're up in my pack.

Um... I think the outer zipper.

All right. Thanks, Dad.

I'll, uh, see you

bright and early.

All right. Bye.

[sighs]

[thunder rumbling]

"Intentions for the Camino."

"Connect on a deeper level

with Mateo.

Bond with my family

and help

the three of us connect.

Become the best man

and father that I can be."
  • Hey, uh, Mateo?

    Did you find those earplugs?

    Yeah, yeah.

G-Give me a pair of those,

    because, you know...

    between you and me,

    I think my snoring

is even waking me up this time.

    Thank you.

    Ah...

    Whoa.

    Okay, were, uh, were you,

    like, in a checker league,

    or something?

    Second-grade champion, actually.

    Wow. How is that not

    what you lead with

    when you first meet someone?

    Well, I don't like

    to intimidate people

before they get to know me.

    Trust me, the moment

    somebody meets you,

    they're already intimidated.

    Me, intimidating?

I find that hard to imagine.

    Well, if anyone here

    is intimidating, it's you...

    Mr. Handsome-Prince-Charming,

who rides up on a horse

    to save the day.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa.

    "Handsome Prince Charming,"

    you say?

    [laughs]

    It's not every day

    you're picked up on horseback.

    I know it's definitely

    a first for me.

Well, I hope it's not the last.

    [thunder crashing]

Ugh, I am glad we're not

    riding home in that weather.

    Yeah, it's definitely

    not worth the risk.

    It's funny how risks

    seemed so much easier

    when we were younger.

    Well, it's 'cause

    we didn't overthink things.

    You know,

    we just kinda jumped in...

    trusted that

    it'd all work out, somehow.

I used to be so brave.

    Life just flowed so easily.

    What changed?

    My dad passing away.

    He was my best friend...

    and when he was gone...

    everything seemed

    out of control,

    so I dove into work

    to distract myself.

    I'm-I'm truly sorry, Monica.

    Thank you.

    Um...

I do think it's really sweet

    that you guys were

    so close, though.

    What was his name?

    Jack Miller.

    Mm? Good name.

    Oh, yeah, it's...

he was the kind of guy

    that reminded people

    not just to live life,

but to really, truly enjoy it.

    I miss him every day...

    [chuckles]

so thank you so much for

    helping me find the devotional.

    Oh, of course.

    You know, for the record,

    I think

    you're still pretty brave.

    You're out here,

    walking the Camino

    all on your own.

Well, it's hardly on my own.

    Your dad's snoring

    won't let me forget that.

    [laughing]

    Yeah, but... thank you.

    Ahem.

I am trying to be brave...

    but I'm realizing

    that takes trust,

    and that's not something

    I'm very good at anymore.

    I get it.

    I mean...

    surrendering to something

    greater than yourself

    when your life

    is out of control...

    it's incredibly challenging.

    Really?

    You always seem

to go with the flow so easily.

    [laughs] No, not at all.

    You kidding me?

    I micro-manage my family

    like it's a full-time job.

    You're being

    too hard on yourself.

You're doing the best you can.

    That's all you can do.

    Thanks.

    Nothing like the Camino

    to, uh, highlight

    all your flaws, huh?

    If we're putting

it all out on the table...

    I think you're pretty great...

    flaws and all.

    I think

    you're pretty great, too.

    [thunder crashing]

    [crackle]

    [innkeeper] Sorry about that!

    The storm

    is quite passionate tonight.

    [chuckling]

    Here, take this candle

    with you to your room.

    Muchas gracias,

    but, um, it's separate rooms.

    Okay.

    [Luis] Muchas gracias.

    I have to...

    Uh...

    [both chuckling awkwardly]

    - Yeah.

    - Um, we should...

    probably get some sleep.

I'll walk you to your room.

    Do you... wanna go first?

I'm letting go of the need

    to control everything.

    I'm choosing to trust

    and surrender.

    I spent my life trying

    to guide my son...

    and grandson...

    believing that I always knew

the right way to do it.

    Well, now, today...

    I'm letting go

    of my judgments...

    trusting

    the paths they choose.

    I'm leaving behind my phone.

If that's okay with you, Dad,

    since it's technically yours?

    It's fine with me.

    Are you sure?

    Yeah, I'm-I'm sure.

I want to be present and, um...

    and connect with you guys.

    [clack]

    I come here often,

    and, most times,

    I leave behind

    the same things...

    small worries, old doubts...

    the weight of trying

    to have everything figured out...

    but, today,

    I leave behind

    a fear

    I didn't even realize I had...

    of letting someone

    back into my heart.

    Yeah.

    I...

    am letting go of...

    this guilt that I've carried

    for far too long,

    of not being enough...

    as a father,

    as a son...

    but...

    I'm also choosing to trust

    and surrender.

    Well...

    it's all downhill from here.

    Hiking-wise, I mean!

    [laughter]

    We've got a bit of a trek

back down to the main path.

    Let's go.

    [Luis]

    Matty, welcome to our hometown.

    [Ernesto]

Oh, it's so good to be back!

    Mi primo Ernesto?

    [laughing] Mara!

Mara, mi prima favor it a!

    This cannot be...?

    Yeah!

    Little Luis...

    he-he's all grown-up,

and-and he has a son, Mateo.

    Oh!

    [smooching]

I remember you as a boy...

    running around in the dirt...

    - Yeah.

    - playing football.

    Dreaming of being

    American football player!

    [laughing]

    That's right.

    Tienes una buena memoria, Mara.

    Me alegro de verte.

    You don't forget family...

no matter how many years pass.

    Bienvenidos todos!

    [laughing]

    Come.

    There's some kids

    over there playing football,

if you want to join them.

    Thanks.

    Okay, Mara.

    Qu tal?

    You don't really

    like sports, do you?

    You want the real answer?

    Yeah, I won't tell anyone.

    Not at all.

But I can't tell it to my dad.

    See how often he tries

to talk to me about it?

    Well, I think maybe

    he's just trying

    to connect with you,

    however he can.

    Then why doesn't

he ask me what I like?

    What I'm passionate about?

    Well, that is

    a very good question.

    Give him a chance.

    He might surprise you.

Can you believe I grew up here?

    Yeah. It's so different

    from Boston, but...

    I kinda love it.

    Yeah, well, maybe

    you'll spend some more time

    here some day, huh?

    My school actually has

    a summer immersion program

    in Spain.

    - Oh! Really?

    - Yeah.

    Well, hey, look, as long

    as it doesn't conflict

    with football practice,

    maybe we sign you up

    for that, huh?

    Hold on, what...

    what's going on?

    It's just...

    I don't wanna play football

    anymore, Dad.

    We've been talking about this

    since, like,

    middle school, Matty.

I know, but it's only because

    you've always brought it up.

    [sighs] The truth is,

    I don't like sports.

    I never have.

    It's always been your thing.

    Wow.

    Okay. Um...

I am sorry if I put that on you.

    Okay?

    I-I just...

    I guess I just thought

    that if we had

    something in common,

    then it'd be

    a little easier for us.

    Yeah, I get that.

    Abuelo kinda tries

    to do the same thing.

    He does, doesn't he?

    [chuckling]

    Yeah, I guess, uh,

    we Albuerne men...

    we have a habit of...

    trying to pass down

    what we know,

    instead of actually

listening to what our sons want.

    Hmm.

    But you know what?

    That stops here.

    What are you passionate about?

    Okay. Um...

    Art.

    I've been drawing

and painting for a while now.

    Ar-Art?

    That's... That's incredible!

    Do you mean it?

    Absolutely!

    I want you to know

    that I love you... okay?

    For exactly who you are.

    Whatever it is you love...

    I-I-I love you.

    Okay?

    - Okay.

    - Okay.

    [Mateo sobs softly]

    Thanks for having the courage

    to share that with me.

Yeah, well, I had a little help.

    There's so much to see.

    What is everyone thinking?

I'd like to find a gift

    for my mom.

    Mm.

    Oh, would you, uh, like

    a translator for the mercado?

    I'd love that.

    Matty, you wanna join us?

    Actually, I think

    I'm gonna go check out

    the, um, artist area.

    We can take you there.

    All right, thanks.

    I'm looking forward

    to seeing you

    for dinner tonight.

    Hasta luego, Mara.

    A qu hora nos volvemos

    en la casa?

    A las 18:00.

    Vale.

    - "18"?

    - Yeah, 6:00 p.m.

    What's the plan?

    Oh, we're meeting back

at the house at, like, 8:00.

    Oh.

    This could work.

    Yeah. It's very cute.

    Yes.

    Oh, wow.

'Kay, this is not right for her,

    but this is stunning.

    Oh, you should totally

    try that on.

    Oh... heh!

    I don't know.

    I'd feel silly

    trying it on by myself.

    I can help with that.

    Yeah?

    - Yeah!

    - Okay.

    Come on.

    [chuckling]

    This is crazy. I've...

    I've never seen

    anything like it.

    I didn't realize

    you like art, Mateo.

    You know,

my mother was an artist. Yeah.

    She came here

    all the time for inspiration.

    [Consuelo] Who knows?

    Maybe you'll find

    some inspiration here, too.

    Of course.

    Oh, wow!

    Um, you look...

    I-I have no words.

    Thank you.

    Well, you look

    very handsome yourself.

    Oh, thanks.

    Uh, you should...

    you should get that.

    Oh, I-I love it,

    but it's not practical.

    You never know when

you might need a fancy dress.

    Oh.

    Yeah, you never know

    when an elegant dress

    is gonna come in handy

    on the Camino.

    - Fair point.

    - [Monica laughs]

    So, just thinking about

    what to get my mom.

Do you have any other ideas...

    - [whispering indistinctly]

    - of places, or...?

Uh, yeah, you know, I think

I might know just the place!

    Gracias!

    Okay, so, for something

    truly unique for your mom,

    I was thinking...

    this might be the place.

    A pottery studio.

    Huh?

    You remembered!

    Of course I did.

    You gonna join me?

    Yeah!

I mean, as long as, you know,

    my, uh, skills

    don't intimidate you.

    Oh-h*-h*, we will see!

    Uh-huh.

    Okay, so... [laughing]

    This is a little harder

    than it looks!

    [chuckles]

    Don't worry, you'll get it.

Like, at this point, do you...

    do you know exactly

    what you're making, or...?

    Honestly, no.

I know, it is hard to believe

    I don't have a plan,

but I just kind of get started

and see where it takes me.

    Uh-oh. Okay...

    [Luis] I think

    I'm doing something wrong.

    - [Monica] Let me help you.

    - [Luis] Okay.

    Okay, wait, wait.

No, no, slow down, slow... okay!

    The symbol of the Camino.

    [stammers]

    Well, okay, that's impressive.

    Thank you!

    Um, I gotta admit...

    I-I kinda envisioned

    a coffee cup

    from the beginning...

    look, it seemed approachable.

    It has character.

    Do you wanna grab

    some tapas before dinner?

    I'd love to.

As long as you don't mind

    me covered in clay.

    [unzips bag]

    Might have a...

    - [gasping]

    - solution.

    [exhales]

I can't believe you bought it.

    Yeah. Just thought

    you deserved a gift, too.

I guess it is more practical

    than I thought.

You have a lovely family home,

    Ernesto.

    Gracias. Gracias.

    See, but, you know,

    I've-I've been

    wondering something.

    Well, when you mentioned

    letting someone

    back into your heart,

    by chance...

    were you referring to me?

    [snickers]

    [laughs] You!

    You drive me absolutely crazy...

    [laughs]

    but, yes,

    I was referring to you.

    Ah!

    You drive me

    absolutely crazy, too,

    but yet, each morning,

    when I go outside

    to begin the walk,

    I feel...

    I feel full of hope,

    and-and-and...

and my heart skips a beat

    when I see you.

    Oh...

    well, maybe it's the start

    of something new.

    [chuckles]

    [hums a bar of music]

    Salud.

    [clink]

    Mm! It's nice.

    Today was fun.

Your scallop shell was so good.

Well, I wanted to do it

not just 'cause of the Camino,

but since my parents met here,

    it feels like

    a symbol of their love.

    That's beautiful.

    Your mom's gonna love it.

    My dad always said

    that them meeting here

    felt like

    part of a greater plan.

He always had such strong faith.

    Yeah, your dad sounds

    like such a great guy.

    I wish I could've met him.

    He would have loved you.

    What about you?

What do you think of me?

    [laughing]

    Are we playing

    Truth or Dare again?

    Or, um... Verdad o Reto?

    Ooh! Muy bien.

    Gracias.

    Yeah, actually...

    um...

I dare you to dance with me.

    - Hmm?

    - But no one else is dancing!

    And if everyone

    thought that way,

    no one ever would.

    Somebody has

    to get this started, right?

    - True.

    - Come on.

    I'll get that for you.

    - Thank you.

    - Of course.

    Oh!

    [chuckling]

    Uh, hey, Abuelo?

    Mm!

    I'm sorry.

    No, no, no,

    y-you don't need to apologize.

I was wondering where Dad was.

    He's almost an hour late.

    He-He'll be here soon.

I think I might go look for him

    while you guys eat.

    He'll be fine.

    I just wanna make sure

    he's okay.

    Okay, okay. Go, go, go.

    Thank you.

    Someone told me once,

    "Love...

    is to enter

    into another's chaos,

and to let them into your own."

No wonder it feels so risky.

    The thing is, Monica...

    you make the risk

    feel worth it.

    I am so...

    thankful...

    that God brought you

    into my life.

    Really?

    Yeah.

    Meeting you on this Camino

has been one of the highlights

    of my life.

    [Mateo] Dad!

    What are you doing?

    Uh, Mateo...

    Seriously?

    This is why you're late?

    What, no, late...

it was supposed to be 8:00.

    It was 6.

    I thought this trip

was supposed to be about us.

    Matty, we didn't know that,

    about the time.

    No offense, Monica,

    but this is between

    me and my dad.

    Okay, let's talk.

    All right?

    I'll be right back.

    Okay.

    Meeting Monica was one of

    the highlights of your life?

    I know how

    that must have sounded,

    but, Matty, you are

the most important thing to me.

    Really? 'Cause it seems like

    when someone else

    just comes into your life,

    you just leave me behind.

    No. No, buddy,

    that is not true.

    You are my first priority.

    - That will never, ever change.

    - Nah, she'll get it.

Are you and Monica a thing?

    I don't know...

    [scoffs bitterly]

    but that doesn't matter.

    Right now, okay...

    you are the only thing

    that matters right now.

    Nothing else does.

I'll meet you back at the house.

    - I need to think.

    - Matty.

    [scoffs]

    Matty!

    I really messed this up...

    with Matty...

    with you.

    No. Matty will come around,

    he loves you.

    And as for us...

    he's right.

    This trip was supposed

to be about you and your family,

    and I became a distraction.

    No, Monica,

    you are not a distraction.

    This Camino has been more

    than I ever expected,

    and that's because of you.

I can... I can fix this.

    There is a way

    to make everybody happy.

I don't wanna be another person

    you need to make happy.

    I would give...

    anything for another day

    with my dad.

    [voice breaks] Anything...

    and I don't wanna take...

    I don't wanna take that

    from Matty, so...

    I think I should, um...

    I think I should

finish the Camino on my own.

    Monica...

    It's the right thing.

    Buen Camino.

    Monica.

    I saw your note.

    Yeah.

    Um, thank you for everything,

    but I...

I realize I need to finish

this last leg of the Santiago

    by myself,

then get a plane ticket home,

and go back to normal life.

    I've done

what I came here to do.

    Have you?

    I'm not quitting.

I'm just finishing on my own.

    Quite a few pilgrims

    choose to finish alone.

    It can be rewarding,

if it's done out of freedom,

    not fear.

What makes you think I'm afraid?

You've let go of so much here,

    but what about the things

    you're afraid to hold onto?

That's part of the Camino, too.

    It's for the best.

    My presence here wasn't helping.

    Yeah.

    You must follow

    your conscience, querida.

    But may I offer

    one last piece of advice...

    as your guide?

    For some pilgrims,

    Santiago isn't the end...

    many continue to Finisterre.

    What's that?

    It's where

    the Camino meets the ocean...

the final step on the journey.

    If your Camino isn't done...

    you will know.

    Thank you for everything.

    Ah!

    Buen Camino, Monica.

    Buen Camino, Consuelo.

    [smooch]

    Dad?

    Can we talk?

    Yeah.

    Yeah, sure, buddy.

    What is it?

    I've been thinking

    about you and Monica.

    The past few weeks,

    I've seen you happier than...

    I've seen you

    in a very long time.

    I have been.

    It's been great

    to be around my family.

I just wanna say, I get it...

    I get

    that Monica made you happy.

    She's cool.

I understand why you like her.

    I guess

what I'm trying to say is,

    I trust you, Dad.

    Wow. Matty. Come here.

    Oh...

    Thank you.

That means more than you know.

    [smooch]

    But I guess

it just wasn't meant to be.

    Breakfast will be ready

    in five minutes.

    Gracias.

    What's this?

    Oh...

    [chuckles]

    You remember... I told you,

    we would host

    some pilgrims here?

    My family always tried

to take photos of our guests

    to remember them by.

    So...

    I'm pretty sure

    that, in this box...

    there are some photos

    of your father.

    There, you see, on top?

    What?

    I-I... I think

    that's Monica's parents.

    What?

    Jack... Olivia and...

    That's me.

    I made it.

    [exhales deeply]

    The Santiago Cathedral.

    I still don't know

if I really understand all this,

    you know...

    the prayers.

    [Ernesto]

    You don't need to, Mateo.

You know, the opposite of faith

    is not doubt,

    it's certainty.

You know, Dad always says that.

    Oh yeah? Does he?

    I guess he's passed on

    more lessons than we thought.

    [chuckles]

Do you mind if I join you?

    In a... prayer?

    Of course you can.

    Lord...

    we thank you

    for getting us safely here,

    and we thank you

    for my son, Luis...

    and the wisdom

    he taught his son,

    that I cannot...

    maybe understand the right way.

    That's her!

    Smoke clouds all around

    Couldn't see your face

    Darkness...

    Dad, do you love her?

Yeah, Matty, I think I do.

    You think, or you know?

    I know.

So I'll stay in the fight

    And look to the One

    who says

    What now?

    Hold on

    just a little bit longer

I know it's gonna be okay

    These days are gonna

    make you stronger...

    "Who is the most courageous

    person you know?"

    "You are, Monica."

    I couldn't help

    but answer this one myself.

    "Love, Dad."

    Deep down

    there's a well of faith

    Let hope arise

as you're liftin' up my name

    And just hold on

    Just hold on

    Hold on

    You promise...

Then we have to find her.

    She's probably on her way

    to the airport by now.

    Perhaps, but I don't think

    that's where she's going.

    What do you mean?

    My guess is,

    she hasn't finished walking yet.

    You think

she's on her way to Finisterre?

    Mm-hmm.

    That's where I gotta go.

So I'll stay in the fight

    And look to the One

    who said

    Hold on

    just a little bit longer

I know it's gonna be okay

    These days are gonna

    make you stronger

    You'll find purpose

    in the pain

    Hold on

    just a little bit longer

    Deep down

    there's a well of faith

    Let hope arise

as you're liftin' up my name

    And just hold on...

    Hold on, hold on

    Just wait till you see

what's at the end of the road

    A new life

    is ready to unfold

    Hold on

    just a little bit longer

I know it's gonna be okay

    These days are gonna

    make you stronger

    You'll find purpose

    in the pain

    Hold on

    just a little bit longer

    Deep down

    there's a well of faith

    Let hope arise

as you're liftin' up my name

    And just hold on...

    Hold on

    hold on...

    Just hold on

    Just hold on

    God...

I've spent so much of my life

    trying to control everything...

    and, out here,

    you taught me

    the grace of letting go.

    I see you

    in the kindness of strangers,

    and...

    the beauty of nature...

    [chuckles]

    and even in

    the pain of the climb.

    You were here all along,

just waiting for me to notice.

    I don't have the answers...

    but I trust now

    that I don't need to.

I just need to keep walking,

    step by step...

    knowing I'll never be alone.

    [Luis] Monica!

    What...

    what are you doing here?

    I had a hunch

    you might've rerouted here.

    [chuckles]

    You still think us meeting

    was a coincidence?

    But how...?

That baby right there is me.

    Your parents...

    they stayed at our house...

    during their pilgrimage.

    [gasps]

    [sobs]

So you did meet my dad.

It looks like we got along.

    I don't know that I believe

    in coincidences anymore.

Oh, I stopped believing in those

    the moment I met you.

    Walking this last part

    of the path alone

proved to myself I could do it,

    and I did...

    but the entire time,

I thought how much better it is

    with you by my side.

    Then let's

    keep walking together...

    you and me.

    I wanna make you happy.

    Not because I have to...

    because I want to.

    You didn't think

    that we'd actually let you

finish this without us, did you?

    Huh!

    [laughs]

    It only makes sense

    that we end it together...

    as a family.

    Couldn't agree more.

    I remember your parents, Monica.

    You do?

    Yeah. They were the ones

    who first told me

    about Boston...

    and eight years later,

    we moved there.

    [exhales]

    [chuckles]

    What did I tell you?

    The Camino gives

    each person what they need.

I think it gave each of us

    exactly

    what we were looking for.
