The lives of three women with great personal and economic problems intersect by chance when they meet Eligio, a customer who transports valuable merchandise.

01x01 - Episode 1

Post by bunniefuu »

Borders are strange places.

An imaginary line that
divides two bits of land.

This particular one, dividing
Galicia and Portugal,

has its own name: A Raia.

Ourense is on one side, land of
thermal springs and vineyards

that the Romans enjoyed
over 2,000 years ago.

On the other side, Montalegre,

a town that appears to be watching
the other side of the border.

But let's not go off topic,

because our story, besides
historical information,

begins here: in an isolated
petrol station on the border.

A place only frequented
by two types of people:

those searching for something
or fleeing from something.

And all of them have
their own backstory,

one that can't always be told.
Like him: Eligio Montero.

A laid-back,
friendly-looking guy.

He likes chewing gum, whisky,
and Humphrey Bogart films.

But don't be fooled
by his appearance.

Eligio is the typical
local hit man.

He can rob, beat you
up, move ill*gal goods,

or kidnap your worst enemy.
Anything for a handful of euros.

His clients include the
very worst lowlifes.

Like him: Marcelo Mendoza.

Nephew of old Severo Mendoza,

the top drug lord on
this side of the border.

Or Ferrán, in charge of
laundering the family's money

via his vintage car dealership.

An increasingly tough task.

Two old enemies
forced to shake hands.

Although Marcelo fantasises
about getting rid of Ferrán,

showing his uncle he's
a worthy successor.

And that time might be close.

It appears that Eligio has
decided to follow his own plan.

Who knows if it will work?

He's no Humphrey Bogart and
this isn't really his story.

But we do know it will change
the lives of our main characters,

who don't even know each other.

We'll come to that later, though.
Let's start at the beginning.

He said his mum's
coming to live with us.

Has he gone mad?

Don't touch that,
it costs a fortune.

Are you listening?

Lucía?

Yes, I'm listening. But he's
been saying that for a year.

Don't be such a drama
queen. What time is it?

- Eight.
- sh*t, running late again.

- You said a bad word.
- Really?

Can I have a euro?

There you go.

So, tell me what you think.
Does Mummy look pretty?

- Yes.
- Yes?

Can I go with you?

Not today, sweetie.
It's going to be packed.

Mum is a fab singer, one day you'll
come see me in a big theatre.

You have to stay
with Sandra, okay?

And don't touch my lipstick.

Tomorrow we'll go the cinema.

Before you spend the holidays
with Dad. What do you say?

And can we have ice-cream?

- And how about if we do both?
- Yay!

Be a good girl.

Beers are in the fridge.

Thanks.

I'm running late again...

Thanks.

Have fun!

How's it goin'?

How's it goin'?

As you can see, I'm so-so

I'm in a terrible state.

Thank you, friends. Remember,
ten o'clock is happy hour.

We'll take a 15-minute
break and be back.

How's it going, gorgeous?

How about you hitch it up?
We're not here for the songs.

Hands off, idiot.

Sorry, can't help it.

You're turning me on, babe.

Really?

Like my legs?

You can't imagine
where they begin.

- Wanna touch?
- Sure, cowgirl.

I could climb on top.

Don't even think
about it, prick.

Touch me and I'll
cut off your ba*ls!

What are you doing here?

Can't I have a beer?

Cut the crap, you
know what I mean.

I heard about your "work".

I tried calling, but
you never pick up.

So, I came to see you in action.

Alicia isn't here, is she?

What the hell do you
care about my work?

Do I hassle you at yours?

Of course I didn't bring
Alicia, I'm not that stupid.

Check it out.

Your boyfriend is getting
jealous. He's not your kind.

You're right, maybe
he does get jealous.

Today is your lucky day.
Don't overdo it, d*ck.

Twenty... sixty-five.

- Lucía.
- Why are you here?

I phoned about a thousand times.

- Where is Alicia?
- Raúl took her away.

What do you mean?

He turned up without warning,
threatened to call the police.

- The b*stard...
- Your phone was switched off.

Then they changed the lock.

I took everything I
could. I'm so sorry, Lu.

Let's go and look for Alicia.
- Lets' go!

Open the bloody door!
What a b*stard...

- What's your game?
- Why are you here?

It's not your turn.

- Come back when you're calmer.
- Yeah? Let me in, f*ck it!

Go in.

- Hi, Lucia. What is it?
- Where's Alicia?

In her room.

- Ali! We're leaving.
- Let's talk.

I've nothing to say to you.

I don't think it's a good
idea if she hears us rowing.

Darling, go and see how
she is. We need to talk.

Sure.

- She isn't going anywhere with you.
- Why?

- What's your problem?
- You're a bad influence.

- Who the hell are you to say that?
- Her father.

Besides, I have her
for the holidays.

Have you seen yourself?

Is it right for her to see
you dressed like a sl*t?

Is it the bar? Jealous again?
- How much do you charge?

- Give her back to me or...
- What? What?

I'll report you to the police
for that scam of yours.

All right, all right.

I'll fetch her.

I'm going to ask
for sole custody.

You can't, I'm her mum.

And when the judge finds
out you're homeless?

That you spend your days
dressed like a wh*re?

That you came here to attack me?

What are you on about?

It could all be different.
I still miss you.

- It could be like it was before.
- Take it easy.

I can't stand seeing
you with others.

We're a family, Lucía, a family.

Please, Alicia is upstairs.

All right.

I'll let you take her
because I still love you.

But I want her back tomorrow.

And if you call the police,

you'll regret it for
the rest of your life.

Understood?

Understood?

Are we going on a trip, Mummy?

Yes, sweetheart, on a trip.

Jesus!

What the hell?

Any rooms available?

That's all I have.

I need one.

Fifty euros for the two of you.

This is all I have.

I've heard that one
too often before.

Please, do it for
my little girl.

"a delay in payment
of your mortgage..."

Here again!

Who's the lucky girl today?

They're getting
younger and younger.

Cut the crap and give me a room.

If it weren't for me, this
business would go to hell.

Whatever you say, champ.

Let's go.

RAÚL - 12 MISSED CALLS

1 VOICE MAIL

Lucía, please pick up.

I want to apologise
for yesterday.

You know I'm not like that.

Go on, call me.

"Certain divinities of mythology

who select those who
will die in battle."

VALKYRIES

I knew that one.

What's wrong with my account?
No more beer if I don't pay?

What about my pension account?

What does my pension have
to do with the mortgage?

Come by this evening and you
can explain it to me calmly.

We'll do that, then.

Bye. Say hello to
your mother for me.

Morning.

Hi.

Thanks for yesterday.

You have to vacate the
room before twelve.

Could we stay a
couple of days more?

You've got it wrong, sweetie.

Call me Lucía.

Nice to meet you, but
this isn't a charity.

And you, honey.

What's your name?

Alicia.

Hungry?

Wait in the bar.

I need a word with your mum.

Run along, sweetheart.

Are the police looking for you?

No.

I don't know what you're
running away from,

and I don't care,

as long as you don't
cause me trouble.

But if you stay here,
you work. Understood?

Yes.

See to your daughter.

I think there's some
milk left in the fridge.

Thanks.

God, give me patience.

I know she never
treated you well,

- but she's my mum.
- And she always will be.

You can't keep on
living this way.

She's no longer with
us. Look at her.

We should put her
out of her misery.

How?

By throwing her in the river.

What? That wasn't in
the script. Sergio!

Cut!

- What's going on?
- Wait a sec.

He said throw me in the
river. That isn't my scene.

Didn't you speak to your agent?

Why would he want to talk to me?

This is hard for me to say,

but we're getting rid
of your character.

Who gave that order?

- Things change...
- No, tell the writers

to make the mother walk again...

That's impossible.

Why?

The channel wants familiar faces.
- "Familiar faces"?

People who are more popular
on social media, more active.

These kids are more
popular than Eva Santana?

That's not the point.

You should talk to your agent.

You can be sure I won't be back.

Sorry for being late.

- Did you bring it?
- Yes.

There you go.

Is this all?

It's what you were due.

Are you sorry about
the soap opera, too?

How long have you known?

Two weeks.

I'm not going back.
They don't deserve it.

I know, I know.

If you don't k*ll off the
character, you'll be in trouble

for breach of contract.

Why not call them and apologise?

Apologise?

I'm a professional,
not an idiot.

I'll go back and do my job.

They're kidding themselves if
they think it'll work without me.

That kid...

doesn't have the
experience or talent.

You know channels now. They
don't just want actors,

- but influencers, social media...
- What are you on about?

I have thousands of
followers, and her?

Five million.

She's still a terrible actress.

Did you talk to the
Sampaio film people?

Don't worry, I'll
deal with everything.

Will you now?

That's not enough.

I don't work, you
don't get paid.

It wasn't easy.

- You were off the radar...
- Listen.

If it weren't for
me, you'd be nobody.

I'm Eva Santana, that should be
more than enough to get the role.

Do your job properly.

I'll sort it all out.

Meanwhile, turn up on
set tomorrow, okay?

Sorry, it won't
take long. Hello?

Thank you.

"See you later."

Thank you.

sh*t!

Listen up, you twat.

Your time isn't worth
sh*t, but mine is precious.

My uncle will be
here in two days...

The lorry is almost here.

It simply took a safer route.

I don't like you, Ferrán,
but this is business.

I want to see that lorry
as soon as it's here.

- Hello.
- Hello.

I'm not buying anything.

I wanted a room.

Oh, okay.

That's an expensive suit
for our type of guests.

If you have company,
it'll be twice the price.

I'm here alone.

I'd like room number four.

It has to be four?

It's my number.
I'm superstitious.

Well, that room is
our bridal suite.

It costs 150 euros a night.

Is something funny?
It's our best room.

Fine.

You need to fill
out your details.

Ah, while you're here.

This is a petition to stop
them building a casino.

- But I like casinos.
- Well I don't.

Either sign it or look
for somewhere else.

Okay, okay, no
need to get upset.

Just one little thing.

Dogs aren't allowed
in the motel.

Someone abandoned
the little guy.

People have no scruples.

But I'm allergic to mutts.

So it can't stay.

The dog stays.

All right?

All right... the dog can stay.

- But in the storeroom.
- Fine.

Understood? Excuse me.

Here you are.

Hiya.

Hiya, how are you?

Hiya...

PRIVATE NUMBER - RUNNING LATE.
WAIT FOR ME IN MOTEL ROOM.

That's it, Telmo! More!

More!

God!

Do it harder, harder!

Yes, one adult and a child.

Of course I'll wait.

Yes, I'm still here.

Economy class, yes.

200 euros each? But
it's a bloody train!

I'll think about it. Thank you.

Let me see.

Here's a coin.

Come here.

Look at the state of you.

Finish brushing your teeth
and off to bed, it's late.

What are you doing?

Drop it!

Don't you dare! Are you mad?

You can't do that to me.
I'll call the police!

- Lower your voice!
- No!

- You can't do this to me!
- I don't care!

Go on then, call the police. Like
that's gonna make a difference.

Why are you doing this to me?
I don't have any more money.

- Get it.
- I can't!

You know people.

Ask for a loan.

Or I swear I'll
publish those photos.

Give them to me or I'll
k*ll you! I swear I will!

Was that your plan?

To stab me with a tiny knife?

You have five days. Five!

Or I'll publish them.

- I don't feel sorry for you.
- I'm begging you.

I don't want them to see
me like that. Please...

NOTICE OF EVICTION FROM PROPERTY

- What are you doing?
- Nothing.

Waiting for you.

And the kid?

Asleep.

She'll be fine. Thanks
for the toothbrush.

What type of bar do
you think this is?

I couldn't pick
up a lot clothes.

Have you worked in a bar?

Sure.

Get to it, then. You
know where it is.

Hang on.

There's a guy in a suit.

Serve him some free drinks.

But something cheap, okay?

You get rid of it by
soaking it in bicarbonate.

Sorry?

Your shirt stain.

The stain...

Berto's sandwiches,
the best around here.

He has a good slogan.

"At Berto's, eat until
your buttons pop!"

So next time, I'll
just have to use a bib!

That's a smart suit
for a place like this.

What do you do?

I lead a very boring
life: I'm a lorry driver.

This is on the house.

- Absolutely not.
- Boss's orders.

I insist.

Or you keep it as a tip.

I can't accept this.

She'd k*ll me.

Just remembering it...

I thought your dad would have
a fit seeing you with me.

Yes, and he held it
against me for 20 years.

He was a good man.

Now your mother...
she had some temper.

- But I was fond of them both.
- They were fond of you too.

My mother says you
should go visit her.

I'll go some day, I promise.

Years have gone by, Carolina.

- Stop looking for her...
- I'll never stop.

She's your age now.

She might never turn up.

You don't know that.

Sort out your problems,
you can't go on like this.

- You could sell the motel...
- Never.

The bank will make
you if you don't pay.

If I sell, Micaela won't
have a place to come back to.

If you don't pay
you'll lose it anyway.

I wish I could do
something, but...

If you don't deposit 150,000
euros, they'll carry out the order.

Then a court order
will have you evicted

in just a few days.

Do you have savings?

I wish I could help you.

I'm more likely to get rich from
the lottery than working in a bank.

I know.

Okay, I have to go.

If you change your
mind or need something,

just call me.

Regards to your mother.

Hang on a sec, João.

Sign this before you go.

Still fighting the casino?

Of course.

Now that yokel of a mayor

wants to turn this into
Las Vegas. Is that normal?

A casino, just what we needed.

More sinners? No. Add your name.

I'll bombard them
with signatures

and they'll remember my
name: Carolina Caneiro!

- Take care, bye.
- You too, bye.

Seriously?

Hi, Mum. It's me.

Just to say I love
you and miss you.

I had a horrible day today.

I'll call later.

Night, Mum.

Love you.

"I was born when she kissed me.

I died when she left me.

I lived a few weeks
while she loved me."

That's really nice.

- From the film In a Lonely Place.
- Is it?

Dixon Steele is one of my
favourite Bogart characters.

They don't make films
like that anymore.

- No.
- No.

They don't make
anything like before.

The world has lost
all its poetry.

True.

Shall we carry on talking
about classic cinema?

No.

You seem out of place
in a village like this.

- Meaning?
- I don't know.

With what you earn, you
must be very important.

- Well, I have my own "business".
- See?

I've always found
dangerous guys sexy.

All I can tell you is
that after tomorrow

I'll be so rich I won't have
to do a stroke of work again.

But for now, I'm off to bed.

Keep the change, gorgeous.

- Goodnight.
- Goodnight.

RAÚL - 9 MISSED CALLS

Good evening.

Take it easy,
mate, take it easy.

Don't be like that.

Everything is going well.

Now I'm the one who
makes the rules.

Think I'm going to risk
my neck for that money?

I want five million.

That's nothing if you
have twenty million.

Don't worry,

it's well hidden.

Nobody will find it.

When I get my money, I'll
tell you where it is.

I'll call you back.

Can I come in or do I have
to spend the night alone?

Of course. Come in, come in.

You must think I'm mad,

but you've no idea how interesting
I find dangerous guys like you.

That's not a good vice.

Maybe I'm not enough for you.

- If you want, I can go.
- Stay.

Know what would be
a turn on, Elogio?

Eligio.

If you told me about that dangerous
business you're mixed up in.

It would put your life at risk.

I couldn't stand it if you were
just a simple lorry driver.

A boaster.

All right.

But swear you won't say a thing.

Don't worry.

It'll be our secret.

So tell me absolutely
everything.

I just k*lled a man.

I came here because I have
something valuable in my possession.

What?

I'm only joking!

I'm just a lorry driver.

You're funny!

I'm going to powder my nose.

- What the hell?
- Get him out of here.

- He's a dangerous man.
- Why?

PRIVATE NUMBER FIRST
WARNING. YOU HAVE 5 DAYS.

Jesus!

Get him out, whatever it takes.

Okay, okay.

It's a beautiful night.

Maybe we could take a walk.

A walk?

It's cold, darling.

No.

Do you think I'm stupid, sl*t?

Where the hell is the briefcase?

Where is the briefcase?

Let her go!

What the hell is going on?

Get out of here right now
or I'll call the police.

Take it easy.

I'll leave if you
give me the briefcase.

b*stard!

You m*therf*cker...

Don't move!

Stop or I'll sh**t!

Don't move!

Don't move.

I'll k*ll you all, you wh*res!

sh*t, I'm out of here.

No one is leaving here!
