02x11 - Awaken!

Post by bunniefuu »

[thwack]

[whoosh]

[rain pelting]

[dramatic music playing]

Did Gawain... really do that?

- [gasps]
- [whoosh]

- [shrieks]
- Watch out!

[splat]

[sobs]

It's my fault.

And he... was trying to shield me.

Gawain's dead.

Stop your blubbering
and get a hold of yourself, all right?

Calm down.

- Crying isn't gonna help anything.
- [Percival] He's dead. It's all my fault.

[Charles] He's not dead!

- [sobbing]
- He's just got a head injury.

We... We need to stop the bleeding.

Before that, maybe we should
go get somebody to come and help.

- [Percival] I'm so sorry, Gawain.
- Yeah, that's what we gotta do.

- Get somebody to help us. Who's closest?
- [crying] I'm sorry! So sorry!

- Huh?
- Huh?

[Gawain] What's going on?
Why are you guys making such a racket?

And what the heck was I doing
lying out here in the middle of the woods?

[both gasp]

[Charles] Are... are you okay, Gawain?

- [Gawain] Yeah, I'm good. Why?
- [Percival giggles] Oh, I'm so glad!

- [Gawain] About what?
- 'Cause...

'Cause you got that head injury
because of me.

Head what?

Nah, if I hurt my head,
I think I'd be feeling it, and...

I have a head injury!

Aah! Aah! Somebody call an ambulance!

[whimpering]

[groaning]

Actually, it doesn't hurt.

[Charles and Percival groan]

[descending squeak]

RISING IMPACT

[rain pattering]

Dude, do you really feel okay?

EPISODE 23: AWAKEN!

Yeah.

I think you really oughta
let a doctor check you out.

It's all right.
I slowed us down enough already.

We need to get back into the game.

The whole thing's my fault.

Huh?

That's not true at all.

It would've been worse if it was you,
'cause I've got a hard head.

It happened... because I got jealous of you.

I was wishing I could play the game
the way you do, Gawain.

The way you approach golf
is so uncomplicated and straightforward.

You don't get rattled,

even when your score
or the whole game is on the line.

[chuckles] I get the joke.

Because line straight is the only way
I can ever hit the ball, right?

You know that's not what I meant
by on the line. Don't you ever get scared?

No way.

If I flub a shot, I figure
I'll just make it up on the next one.

How am I supposed to out-drive everybody

if I start worrying
about every little mistake I make?

I'll smack it straighter than anyone else,
and farther than anyone too.

And that's exactly
how I'm gonna win the game.

[Percival] That doesn't sound
very realistic.

[Gawain] Aw!

But... all that worrying
about my score and playing it safe

doesn't seem to be helping my game.

You're doing a lot better than me.

It's not too late
to start trying it my way.

Huh?

If you think you've been
worrying too much about stuff,

maybe try to relax and just hit the ball.

- [Charles] Good advice.
- Uh...

And I've got your ball
all ready for you here.

Just had to wipe off the blood.

All set, but don't get used to it,

and don't penalize me
for moving your ball. [chuckles]

- That was creepy.
- [Charles groans]

- Thanks just the same.
- [bright music plays]

Jeez. You try to help out. [scoffs]

[laughing] Hey, nice try!

- You shut up, shrimpo!
- [laughs]

- [Charles] Nobody asked for your opinion!
- Hey, Gawain! Guess what.

I'm gonna start playing wild
and foolish like you.

Wah!

[Percival] After all, it is my goal
to eventually be number one in the world.

[upbeat music plays]

[Charles] Gawain, are you sure
your ball went this far?

I know you can hit it long, but come on!

Uh. Yeah, there it is!

- [sputters]
- That's wild!

It flew nearly 400 yards,
even through this rain!

- [splash]
- [both] Huh?

- [Charles] Whoa!
- [Percival] Gawain!

[Gawain groaning]

Ugh. Whoa.
I guess I must've slipped in the mud.

Don't scare us like that.

Are... are you all right?

[Gawain, dazedly]
Oh, that's my ball over there, huh?

[footsteps plodding]

Does he seem a little messed up to you?

Definitely.

Maybe he lost a little too much blood
from that head wound.

[Percival] You think so?

[Gawain] It's weird.

My head feels kind of funny,
like it's spinning.

My body too.

I feel kinda dizzy or something...

[softly]...like I want to take a nap.

Yo, Gawain!

Maybe you oughta call it quits.
You're not lookin' so good, man.

- [muffled chatter]
- [Gawain] Weird.

It sounds like somebody's talking,
but they're really far away.

Oh well. I wonder...
what iron should I use from here?

[muffled chatter]

[feebly] Let's see. It looks like
about 200 yards to the green.

So... the 5-iron?

No. No, that's not right. [grunts softly]

- Hey! Are you listening to me?
- I got it.

[surreal whomp]

[flatly] It's 216 yards.
That means a 6-iron.

[Percival] Huh?

Now he's mumbling to himself
about something.

[somber ambient music plays]

There's something wrong.

- [Percival gasps]
- [gasps] No way!

I've never seen Gawain
take a practice swing before.

[Gawain, flatly] Two hundred fifty yards.

Two hundred thirty yards.

These swings don't look at all
like his usual swing either.

They seem much more flexible and focused.

[Gawain] Two hundred sixteen.

- [resonant clang]
- [rousing music plays]

[clang]

How... how did he do that?

[thunder crashing]

[Charles groans]

Did he... cause the lightning?

[Gawain] My body is doing these things
all by itself.

And it's suddenly...
gotten super quiet inside my head.

What is happening to me?

[splash]

[thunder crashes]

[sputters]

He just made eagle
without any effort at all.

- [thunder crashes]
- [music swells, fades out]

That was pretty impressive
back there, dude.

You brought your score
back to even par again.

I got to admit,
I really didn't think you could do it.

[raindrops pattering gently]

Hey, it looks like
the rain is finally stopping.

That storm kinda came outta nowhere.

I feel bad. This was all my fault.

And now it seems like
Gawain's turned into a different person.

[Charles] I wouldn't worry about it.

I thought he was hurt pretty bad,
but he seems back to normal now.

[Gawain] My right hand
isn't working right.

Maybe all that cold rain
dulled the nerves or something.

Just concentrate on your own game,
and don't worry so much...

- Huh?
- Huh?

[Charles grunts]

- [gagging]
- [Percival murmurs anxiously]

[bark clatters]

There.

[Percival] Still think
he's back to normal?

[Charles] I see your point.

[upbeat rock music playing]

THE 12TH HOLE
"CAMELOT FALLS"

[Charles] Whoa-h*-h*!
That's one heck of a waterfall!

- [Percival] The holes keep getting harder!
- The sign says 340 yards, par four.

The green doesn't look
that far away though, if you ask me.

[Percival] That's just an optical illusion
because of the height difference.

I need to make sure and hit it shorter
to compensate for the downhill.

So the actual distance
is probably more like 300 yards.

I wanna go with the fairway wood,
but... if I hit that hard green directly,

my ball's going to skip off
and end up at the bottom of the falls.

I wonder what club Gawain's going to use.

Oh, he's thinking the same thing.

Fairway wood, huh?

But isn't that going to be a little
too much club for a hole like this?

I'm afraid if I use that club,
I'll go right into the waterfall.

We've gotta wait
for a little while anyway.

Kate's group is just getting
onto the green now.

[Gawain] It's 343 yards to the pin.

Factoring in the downhill, it's 308 yards.

But the wind
coming off the waterfall is strong.

It'll k*ll the momentum of the ball.

I'm going to adjust the distance
to 350 yards.

[Charles] Hey! What are you doin'? Stop!
They're still on the green down there!

You'll hit right into them!

- It won't hit them.
- [grunts]

[waterfall roaring]

Nice. And don't worry.

You're right behind him.
You can still catch Tristan.

[suspenseful music plays]

There's still time.

[music intensifies]

[crash]

That's way too much!
You're gonna hit it right into the falls!

[both gasp]

Fore!

Look out below!

[clanging]

[Kate gasps]

Gah! Am I seein' things,
or did that go straight into the cup?

He just about shot a hole-in-one!

And he's practically a lock
to get another eagle!

Wow. Amazing.

I thought Tristan was the only one

who could pull off
miracle shots like that one.

[Gawain] Still feels strange.
But I'm getting used to it.

[Percival] Could he be
even better than Tristan?

[Tristan] He seems to have no manners.

I'm sorry about him!

Inexcusable.

We hadn't signaled
that we were clear of the green.

I... I know that, but...
Gawain isn't quite himself right now.

[Lancelot] What's happened to you... Gawain?

[Tristan] He does seem different

from the person I saw yesterday.

Can you just let it go this time?
It's not his fault.

- [Gawain, flatly] Go to the next hole now.
- [both gasp]

I need to get to the next hole
and tee off right away.

You're all just slowing me down.

Gawain, stop talking like that!

Mind your manners.
You happened to get lucky.

That shot was not luck.

- [dramatic sting]
- [Tristan grunts]

THE 13TH HOLE
"GIANT PACE"

[tense music plays]

[Charles] Whoa! Check out Tristan's lie!

He's in the pot bunker.
That's big trouble.

[snickers]

Serves you right, bub.

That's what you get
for showing up Lancelot.

How the heck
is he gonna hit it outta there?

The wall of that bunker
is taller than he is.

I don't know, but I'll bet that he does.

[clang]

Damn. Straight in.

That's Tristan's strength.

Not just his almost supernatural
chipping ability.

He has the mental toughness
of a battle tank.

He never stops and never looks back.
He just goes relentlessly forward.

Kind of like
Gawain is doing right now too.

[thwack]

[Riser snickers]

I'm a shoo-in for next year's Camelot Cup.

- Well, I'm not there yet.
- Huh?

This still isn't even close
to Camelot Cup skill level.

- Riser, quit standing around.
- [Riser grumbles]

[Kuromine] To gauge the distance
of a bunker shot,

you either have to
have a natural talent for it...

or else, you have to
practice it thousands of times

until you can just do it in your sleep.

Keep practicing
if you want to go to the UK next year.

Practice until your body
is pushed to the limit

and your hands are bloody and raw!

[Riser shrieks in horror]

[murmurs]

Beware.

The bunkers in England
aren't simple and easy

like the ones you're used to here.

[Riser] Huh?

[chuckles] Really? Whoa.

But that Gawain kid
was even worse at bunkers than me,

so I wonder how he's doing.

[Charles] Sucks to be you, dude.

That's the same spot
in the same bunker Tristan landed in.

Yeah, but Tristan chipped his
into the cup from there.

Gawain's ball is dug in too deep
to even try that.

He'll have to hit out to the side
and then go for the green from there.

Huh? Where's he going?

[Gawain] The distance
is 13 and a half yards.

The sand has gotten heavier
because of the rain earlier.

But I'll be fine.

I can feel the distance in my body now.

With this wet sand, I need to aim
for ten centimeters in front of the ball,

with the power of a 100-yard shot.

I missed it.

[Tristan] Hmm?

[grunts]

Are all of his other shots
as good as his drives now?

This change has come over Gawain
so suddenly

that I didn't notice it before,

but look how naturally he hits.

This boy with the long drives,
and nothing else,

has become a complete, all-around player.

Now I see it.

It was the wind.

THE 14TH HOLE
"PRISON"

[clang]

Yay! That's it! That's just what I wanted!

Take that, you evil creep.
I know what you're doing.

You're intentionally missing the green

just so you can chip it in
and impress everyone!

Well, good luck, Lancelot.

It looks like your head wound
is still bleeding, Gawain.

Are you sure you feel okay?

Don't you think you ought to
at least take a little break?

- No?
- [flatly] No.

- [Kate] Hey! That's the 3-iron!
- Huh?

This is a 150-yard par three!

[Lancelot] Okay.

[Kate] Okay, concentrate.

Try to remember how well
you were hitting the ball yesterday.

Okay, good shot.

Um, you topped the ball,
but at least it went 100 yards.

[Gawain] You aren't focusing on the ball.
Your eyes are shifting around.

And the reason you topped it was
because you were trying to scoop it up.

What's going on?

You're not yourself, Lancelot.

I'm, uh...

[Gawain] What's your score now?

Hey! That's none of your business!

- [glumly] I'm one under.
- Hey. You don't have to tell him.

One under par? Whoa.

So then, what happened?

He was already six under
after the front nine.

Sounds like he's going backwards!

The Lancelot I know would never
let a slide like that go on so long.

Don't just stand there.
Say something, Lancelot.

[Kate] Leave him alone!
Who do you think you are anyway?

You don't know what you're talking about
or what he's dealing with!

- Easy now, Kate.
- [Kate] It's not his fault!

Every player loses his confidence
once in a while!

You don't know! It all started
when he missed that putt earlier!

[sobs] You see

what just one miss would mean
to a guy with such amazing putting skills?

And then he fell apart,

because of all the pressure
that a certain someone put on him!

[sobbing, sniffling]

[blubbers] And now here you start.

Hey, Kate, that's enough.

[crying] If you're really his friend,
short stuff... [sniffles]

...then you should at least
try to understand

and say something nice to him.

[Lancelot sighs]

[Gawain] Well, I don't know
what happened exactly...

[Kate sobs]

...but it doesn't matter,
because you came here

to win this game, didn't you?

Stop! You stop it!

You're sick if that's your idea
of saying something nice!

Do you remember the first time
you and I played as teammates?

- [whimpers]
- That first game?

- [Kate grunts]
- Come on, Kate. It's all right.

Do you remember
what you said to me that day

when it was obvious
that I couldn't putt to save my life?

[soft poignant music plays]

[Lancelot gasps]

Until you appreciate
the importance of each stroke,

you'll never be a pro.

[rousing music plays]

If you're my rival,
then don't let me down.

You and I both crave the competition.

[music crescendoes]

[music fades out]

I hope they'll be okay.

Who does that little shrimp
think he is anyway?

How the heck does he have the nerve
to lecture you about being professional?

Don't you agree?

Why didn't you let him have it
when he said that?

If you don't know
the importance of each stroke...

I'd forgotten... I'd said those words.

[bright nostalgic music plays]

All that time,

I thought you were just a kid

following along behind me.

[rousing music plays]

That was... foolish of me.

How did I not see it until now?

You could have been walking
right in front of me all this time

and I still wouldn't have seen it.

Should've known better.

This whole time,
I've been getting schooled by you.

I should have realized that any game
I knew I could win was worthless,

of no value at all.

Time to turn it around, Lancelot.

Forget about your cheap pride
that can be crushed by one or two losses.

I was craving strong competition,

and I came here to win.

And... the game is not over yet!

[music crescendoes, fades out]
