especially if you're
an elite player.

Yeah, it kind of makes me mad.

the reason for this attention is simple.

There is no sport that is
as personal and passionate.

And just gut-wrenchingly

Our life was completely changed.

It's been hard, but all
I ever know is to play.

And that's why in a game that
is designed to make you lose,

the wins feel that much greater.

You know, I wanna try to compete

And I would say from a
attention standpoint,

had as much attention on it.

much disruption, so many news bombs

dropping out of nowhere that
changed the landscape of the sport.

So now golf fans are
just constantly on edge.

What a movie to make our debut.

It was pretty easy for me. I get to act
as a big Happy Gilmore fan, which I am,

so it's been a blast.

completely different experience for me

compared to what I normally do,

but I can't believe
I'm a part of it.

[Bryson] It's pretty surreal. It's
like I'm in another alternate universe.

My dad obviously
wanted me to play golf,

so what better way
other than to watch

the original classic golf movies,
one of them being Happy Gilmore?

But there's an interesting
dynamic on the course,

where they're all
chasing one guy.

Scottie Scheffler.

Come on, sh**ter. We all miss
a putt every now and then.

[Rory] Scottie is undoubtedly the
best player in the world right now.

Every time he shows up
to a golf tournament,

it seems like he's
the guy to beat.

been playing well this year,

maybe a heater or hot
stretch, whatever it is.

I'm just doing my best just
to try and keep it going.

If Scottie keeps playing like
this, he could be unstoppable.

So the question going into
the first major of the year,

which is the Masters,

is who can challenge
world number one?

[machine whirring]

[man] We actually just got this
machine about two weeks ago, maybe.

And it is one of my favorite
purchases, actually.

I wouldn't call myself
a coffee snob, though.

That's a bit too far. [chuckles]

I don't like it when it's weak.

Sometimes, you can look down in the cup
and see the bottom through the coffee.

That's like, "No. Can't
do that." [chuckles]

Not to step on any toes, but
that's just my opinion. [laughs]

My name is very European,

but I've heard it butchered
in a Southern accent.

I've heard… I've heard all
sorts of different words.

[man] And for the record,
how is it pronounced?

Uh, Ludvig Åberg.

[Wilson] Ludvig Åberg looks like he
was built in a Swedish chemistry lab.

Between his build, his
face, and his golf swing,

he looks like he was
crafted by the golf gods.

[Rapaport] Ludvig is 24 years old. He's
never played in a major championship,

but his résumé is
already stacked.

He was the first college player

to get direct access from
college to the PGA TOUR.

He won a DP World Tour event. He won
a PGA TOUR event in his 11th start.

He was picked to represent
Europe at the Ryder Cup,

and he put on a show that
week that no one saw coming.

And I think walking away from

The Masters is definitely
the one tournament

I'm looking forward to the most.

The history of it. I love history. I think
it's the coolest thing about the game.

It's the one major you
come back to every year.

There's all these iconic
moments and iconic shots,

and for me to kind of, like,

understand that I'll be a part of that
in some way would… would be amazing.

And if I can go there and… and
have a great week and have fun,

I think that's
all I can ask for.

[Scottie] Every golfer dreams
of playing in the Masters

and just playing the course.

Augusta for a golfer is like going to
the Vatican for a Catholic basically.

I'd say it's
something like that.

I'll always remember the first
time I ever got to Augusta,

It was a special moment for me.

I think that's the same
for a lot of people.

[indistinct chatter]

[Tony] It's pretty eye-opening,
the first time on that property

where the best players ever win.

[Colin] Don't wanna

means to you to mentor younger players?

[Tiger] I love watching them
succeed. That's part of the game.

We pass on the knowledge. And we…
we don't keep it, especially here.

This is one of the events
we get a chance to do that

just because we're playing on the
same venue each and every year.

The Masters does an incredible
job of bringing together

the past and future
of the game of golf.

When I first came out, a lot of older
guys gave me really good advice,

and I'm trying to kind of, you know, pay
it forward to the next group of guys.

And I still feel like
the young guy here.

I'm trending more towards the
older end of the spectrum now,

which is a bit weird.

[Rapaport] You're the highest-ranked
debutant behind only Wyndham Clark.

Most guys, their first Masters,
they're trying to take everything in,

trying to soak in
the experience,

but you're in a unique position
where you believe you can win this.

How are you balancing
those two things this week?

I guess all I'm trying
to do is just embrace

all the nerves and all the
excitement that I feel, um,

and at the same time, know my
capabilities and know my qualities

and know that, you know,
that's good enough to compete.

But I'll definitely make sure that, coming
Thursday, I'll be prepared as I can.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Wilson] The Masters
tournament is the signal

that the golf season
is officially starting.

Majors season is here.

It's nice. It's nice being back.

[Wilson] The course is so hard.
The tournament is so hard.

So there's this added layer
of pressure and excitement.

The fans can feel that.

[cheering and applause]

[Rapaport] This is just the best time
of the year. You get the best players

from both tours coming together,
competing at the highest level.

We're gonna see stars shine. We're
gonna see stars rise and fall.

And if we're lucky, we might
even see a new star or two.

[Balionis] Neal Shipley
is one of those players

when you see him walking
around the course,

you're like, "Who is that guy?"

- [man] Am I allowed to swear on this?
- [woman] Go for it.

My grandparents are gonna watch
this, so I gotta be careful.

I'm a fifth-year senior at
the Ohio State University.

So this is the
not-so-clean room.

I wouldn't really focus
over there. [chuckles]

This is all clean clothes. I
just haven't folded them yet.

I did them all yesterday.

I live in a college apartment
with five of my teammates.

Well, we've destroyed a
wall with the dartboard.

We're not getting the security
deposit back for that.

You know, we play a lot of Xbox
when we're not on the golf course.

We bought two cases of beer,
and it's sitting on top of that.

I'm pretty proud of that
engineering, honestly.

I think that's a great way to
use the education. [laughs]

I get joked about all
the time on the team.

They've given me a lot of crap.

My teammates started
just writing stuff.

"Big sexy."

"Fabio." "First Team All
Fridge" for my eating habits.

A long-term quote is that, you
know, "My body is by Waffle House."

"Body by Waffle House." I think
I need to get that on a T-shirt.

Are you gonna wear those
things on Magnolia Lane?

This is, like,
redneck Gucci, dude.

I'm just an average Joe

who happens to play golf a little
bit better than the average guy.

I was six years old when I first watched
Tiger Woods play at the U.S. Open in 2007.

My dad was carrying
me on his shoulders,

and I was like… from me to the camera,
that's the distance between me and Tiger.

I'm a little kid and put my hand
out to try and give him a high five,

and he was so focused that
he just zooms right by me.

He was the guy, you know? He was
the person I always rooted on

and, you know, really inspired me to,
you know, go out there and compete.

[Dethier] Amateur golf has always
been a celebrated part of the Masters.

They invite a number
of amateur champions

from around the world
every year to compete,

and there's always a fierce
competition for low amateur honors.

There's five ways to qualify
for the Masters as an amateur.

I got my invite by finishing
second in the U.S. Amateur.

[commentator] Good-looking
shot. Absolutely right at it.

[Neal] There was a shot that spun back,
you know, 25, 30 feet to about a foot.

[commentator] Tap in! Birdie.

[indistinct yelling]

- Gimme some!
- [commentator 2] The shot of his life.

[woman] Ooh, yeah, go

on my computer during class.

And to be there just a few years
after I was that high school kid,

it's pretty unbelievable.

history of Bobby Jones

and everything that he's
done in amateur golf,

there's a weight to being an amateur
there when you're at Augusta.

that I belong out there.

gonna be my first major,

and I think it's gonna feel a little bit

be okay with that.

to, like, push it away.

you know, fight that.

Obviously, it's Masters. It's
gonna be bigger, gonna be…

trying to be okay with that.

Our tee shot almost went

and everything right
up one fairway.

And then we punched it out
to the left greenside bunker,

hit it to about six feet, drained a putt,
and made par in our first hole at Augusta.

second. It's a little right.

[Ludvig] You're not gonna scroll
around Augusta National when it's windy

and just make a bunch of birdies.
So you can't really force it.

I think, at Augusta, you're
never gonna win it the first day,

but you can lose
it the first day.

So you have to focus on
the shot in front of you

because Augusta is so demanding,

especially when it's playing like
this, that you can't lose your focus.

Yeah. What's going on in the
inside is very different.

train and practice for.

and just saw me pop up there

and they're like, "What in the
hell is he doing there?" [chuckles]

I really didn't feel nervous
Wednesday until the Par 3 Contest,

like, actually in a

I was just trying to pick up the
tees properly out of the bucket,

but I was pretty nervous.

There's not that many guys
who've been low amateur,

so it's a real honor
to have locked that up.

On Friday, halfway
through the afternoon,

realizing that I was
gonna be the only amateur

to make the cut was a…
honestly, a big sigh of relief

because I've already won the low
amateur, but there's a lot of pressure.

There's a lot of people watching
you. It's a new environment.

It's a whole different animal
than college golf, really.

I mean, I've obviously played
college tournaments with Ludvig,

but, uh, you know, with
those legends like Tiger,

I don't think I've been, uh…
been around those guys a lot.

So this is cool. Hopefully, we can,
uh, beat some of them this weekend.

It'd be pretty fun. I actually
have an assignment due Sunday.

Do you think I can get
an extension on that?

One of my teachers didn't
know what the Masters was.

[laughing] Your teachers didn't
know what the Masters was?

[Carter] Maybe we can

It's springtime in Augusta, and what

and I managed to score well

up the leaderboard.

what I can control.

And I think knowing I've already
pulled it off once before

Um, yeah, I think about it all the time.
And I'm okay with thinking about that.

I, uh… Obviously, I'm a competitor,
and I wanna win tournaments,

and, uh, obviously I feel very
fortunate to be in this position,

to be here playing golf and, uh…

But yes, I don't think you should shy
away from it or try to push it away.

I try to embrace it, and I try to be okay
with all that comes with it, I guess.

Do you remember when you were a kid and

Yeah, and he was laser focused.

We followed him that
whole practice round.

Things have a crazy
way of working out.

Yeah, 'cause I, like, shot 80, and
now I'm playing with Tiger Woods.

And that's probably the best
double bogey of my career.

Yeah, yeah, I did. I did get those Tiger
Woods irons when they came out. Oh.

Oh, I played for three years with them
in college. I did okay. I did just fine.

I am incredibly proud. But I've
always been incredibly proud of you.

This is icing on the cake, but
even when you're playing juniors,

and I was proud
then, too, you know.

different scale for sure,

Tiger just said, "Hey, nice shot." Like,
that… that's really cool. [chuckles]

You know you may not win,

but you may have an opportunity

The odds of me playing with him again

Scottie's amazing. If he

I can do to affect that.

just gonna still look back tonight

and be like, "Okay, I
gave it everything."

of in front of the crowd.

Anytime you're in the final group,
there's definitely gonna be pressure,

and that's kind of the fun part.

I think that's the right shot.

with that turning over

that it would start playing
off the right, playing that?

I think so. I mean, that's… that's
the way I've been hitting the shots.

and take a little extra risk.
