- I knew that I could
be the role of Sam
'cause she is just this
brave, strong girl.
And she's basically
lost everything,
especially her father,
who basically taught
her how to survive.
The hardest part is
trying to be the character
and feel what Sam is feeling
'cause she has so many
different emotions.
When she looks out on
everything that is gone
and how much she has lost,
she just realized, I
can't hold it in for long.
And that's when she breaks down
and just can't hold it in
and her heart just drops.

A quiet character. Does

So the character is
basically just like me.
- One day, she comes along
this boy named James.
She's like, what? There's

To actually see somebody,

have creative differences
and that's when things don't
go as smoothly as they should
or when me and him
bicker about this or that
or it should be shot this way
or we don't have enough
time to do it that way.
It's like when me and
Justin are fighting,
it's like when Mom
and Dad are fighting.
One instance in particular
where I got really heated,
and I'm really bad at
keeping my emotions in check,
basically we had this shot
where it was a walk and talk
and Justin wanted a shot,
and I wanted the shot too.
I would've loved for
this shot to work.
And I was like, "Justin, we
don't have time for this.
I think we should just
nail a single on him
and a single on him."
He's like, "I'm the director
and this is my movie."
- We both have egos.
- And I'm like,
"All right, well,
I'm the DP and I'm
supposed to be doing this."
He's like, "Yeah, but
I'm the director."
And I'm like, "Okay,
well, I'ma dip then."
So I literally just
walked off set.
- I anticipated it
happening at some point.
- If he's not gonna
let me do my job,
then there's no reason
I should be there.
That's how I felt
in that moment.
- I'm not gonna beg him to stay.
- I sat with Kelly and Ray
and they're like, "Oh, hey."
And I was upset. I was like
hot, and they could tell.
They were like,
"What's going on?"
And I'm like, "Oh,
just Justin is being,"

I stormed off super dramatically
and I made it seem
like I was leaving,
but obviously I couldn't leave.
- I think it was just a
heat of the moment thing.

heart is in it.

the two singles
that I suggested
in the first place.

realize that my dad was gone.

- And we had kept a lookout

- [Eli] Bye, Mikyla.
- So you're probably wondering
why I'm sitting on a desk.
That's because there's
not a chair in here.
There's a desk,
but I guess people don't
need to sit or something.
Well, I need to sit.
It's been a long day.
We went to the hospital
to unload gear.
So my car and Brandin's car,
we need to get rid of
those vehicles, basically.
Group shows up. Kayden and
Kelly and Craig, they show up.
Craig's our shuttle driver.
So he shuttles everybody to
the site and then goes back
so there's no vehicles outside,
so we don't get caught.
Craig's shuttling
us to the hospital
and he's like, "Look
at that backpack."
It's a black backpack
just on the ground.
He was like, "Is that yours?"
I was like, "I don't think so."
But then I looked out
and I see the hard
drive with all of our,
all the footage on
this hard drive.
And I'm like, that is our
backpack, Brandin's backpack.
So I jump out and there's
our precious hard drive,
just in the middle of the
road, cables everywhere,
Brandin's $3,500 laptop
in the middle of the road.
Apparently his backpack
was in the truck
and it wasn't secured and it
just slipped out the back.
You've got really
expensive equipment.
You've got
irreplaceable footage.
How is that just gonna slip
out of the back of a truck?
Everything should be secured,
but that has the
entire film on it,
like the past two
months of work.
How is that not
gonna be secured?
Like that's the most
precious thing we have.
Yeah, that was nuts. That
was actually really nuts.
Just, yeah. I mean...
I mean, it takes
like two seconds
to make sure things are secure.
Kayden and Kelly were there
and so I just had to
pretend it didn't bother me.
But yeah, that was...
I always back
everything up twice.
So the footage was backed
up on other hard drives
and that is why you
always have two backups.
That right there. Anyways, yeah.

Yeah.
- [Brandin] And then when
you go to infinity, it just-
- [Mikyla] It just resets.
- Don't you love when
rental gear doesn't work?
- Yeah, and let's
mark them if we can.

I have a new level of respect

intricate details

respect for parents
and who really have
a desire to uplift
and encourage their children
to pursue their dreams.
Having those skills later on
in life does help their growth
in any area that they decide
to go on in their career.
I don't wanna take anything
away from the director
or the back, you know, the
tech team and the actors,
but I'm like, oh, I feel
like it's my project too.
- I mean, I'm sad that we
won't be able to see each other
like every day on the weekend,
but it's not like we're never
gonna see each other again
because we're gonna be friends
and we could possibly
get another role
for one of your movies.
So we're still gonna be able
to see each other again.
If you have a dream, go for it.
I started out not
knowing anybody here
to knowing everybody.
I started off for
having no friends here
to a bunch of friends here.
So basically everything's
changed. Basically everything.
- I'm like incredibly
proud of my daughter
and of this production,
but I'm like so sad
for this experience
for her and for me to be over.
It's been like the
greatest experience,
especially with everything
going on in the world
and seeing my daughter just
like come out of her shell more
as an actor.
Justin's ability to help
her grow has been amazing.
Every single moment...
Sorry. I'm the emotional mom.
It's definitely
been quite a ride
for Kayden's first feature film
and I wouldn't have
it any other way.
Wouldn't have changed
anything about the experience.
Justin's amazing.
His drive, his skill, his
passion is just unbelievable
and second to none.
So definitely life-changing
for her and for me as her mom.

We've been through
so much together
