A prison has been established on a freezing cold planet where the prisoners are forced to work in a large mine.

01x06 - Episode 6

Post by bunniefuu »

Doctor!

[alarm beeps]

[computer] This is a code red
emergency evacuation.

We will be immediately withdrawing
from Coldfoot.

- [gasps]
- Final shuttle launch will be at midnight.

Due to shortage of shuttles,
not everyone will be able to evacuate.

End of voice message.

- The time is 9:30 p.m.
- [static crackles]

What is happening?

It's an evacuation notice
about the shuttle.

There isn't enough room for everyone.

Great, so now we have a capacity limit
on top of our time limit. f*ck!

[Jim] Marnie. How's the doctor doing?

She's breathing, so that's good.
But I can't get her to respond.

I should have gone back.

I knew she was hurt. [sighs]

The doctor who was helping
to guide us passed out.

Is there a chance
any of you have been here before?

Well, I'm from here.
But this is the first time

I've had a reason to come out
to the reserve base.

[Jim] I see.

I try to avoid coming to this planet,

because dealing with the quarantine
protocol back on Central isn't worth it.

Not that I'm missing out.

It's not really suitable
for human habitation.

- [Rachel] Professor!
- [William] What? What'd I say?

Hey! Where'd he get that? That's not fair!
Why is his mask better than mine?

[Jim] This is a labyrinth. Without a map,
it'll take forever to find our way back.

We're lost. And I didn't find any Sig.

[Marnie] Maybe I can figure it out.

Marnie?

Mom worked at the cafeteria here
until last year, so I've been here before.

I've only been to the kitchen, but maybe
I can find it on the doctor's tablet.

[Jim] Okay, I'm counting on you, Marnie.

Gimme a second.
Gotta figure out how to use this.

Marnie's going to help.
It's time to move out.

[Walter] Marnie knows this place?

Sort of. Her mom used to work here.

- [Walter] Nice. If she doesn't overdo it.
- [Jim] Agreed.

- So let's get this done fast.
- [Walter] Right.

[Jim panting softly]

[faint radio chatter]

[Robert] How long was I unconscious?
What's going on?

Why do you have that?
Where's the doc...

- [loudly] Huh? Doctor!
- What is it?

[Marnie] Mr. Howard's awake.

That's great!

I bet he knows his way around.
Can you put him on?

Might have a new navigator.
Mr. Howard is awake.

[Marnie] Mr. Howard, Jim,
the guy I was with on the ship over here...

[breaking up] Well, he's...
trying to figure out a way...

[clearly] ...to carry you and Dr. Hadson
out of here.

He wants to talk to you.

[Robert] Uh, okay...

Mr. Howard?

Yeah, it's me.
What's going on out there?

The Swarm have made their way
into the base.

Our only escape will be
on one of the shuttles.

We're on our way. I couldn't carry you
both on my own. I needed to get Casper.

[Robert] Escape? Swarm?

Uh, that's what they call them.
The monster that attacked you.

- You understand?
- Wait! This is serious!

It didn't leave while I was passed out?

The cruiser? It's still here, right?

Hang on. Calm down.
The shuttles haven't launched yet.

Dr. Hadson was helping to navigate,
but she passed out from the morphine.

- I need you to take her place.
- [Robert] Huh? Why?

[Jim] We need Sig to operate
Casper. But we don't know the layout.

Once we find it, we'll come to the medical
bay and get on the shuttles together.

But we need to hurry. Time is running out!

[Robert] What do you mean,
time's running out?

Will they leave without us?
What if I'm too late?

- I have to get out of here.
- No! Wait!

[Robert] Ah! Why are you yelling at me
like that? You scared me.

Sorry. Look...

The doctor made a deal.

She was in pain, but she still helped me
so you could both escape.

She looked out for you.

I never asked her to do that!

With or without me, the doctor's fine.

Look. You don't have to do it alone.
I can help out too.

If we work together, we can make sure
they get back here sooner.

What do you say, huh?

I... can't help you.
I'll just be in the way.

You don't need me.
You can do this yourself.

Ah! Wait!

- Mr. Howard?
- [Marnie gasps]

- He walked out.
- [sighs]

- [Walter] What's going on?
- [Jim] He's not gonna help. He just left.

What? The hell's wrong with him?

And after all the doctor did for him.

Some people are just garbage.

Mmm...

Marnie, you okay?

Yeah, just getting this thing going.
Can you see this?

- [William] Ah, the weather data.
- [Jim] Huh?

Will it affect takeoff?

Uh... no. She's trying to
pull up a map to the kitchen.

Maps aren't connected to weather data!

- She's trying. Give her a break.
- Hmm.

This is a pretty basic model.

You need to activate the map application
in stereoscopic mode,

then turn on screen mirroring.

- The terminal is THP0056-874.
- Uh...

[Marnie] Uh, hang on, I heard that.

- Give me a second...
- [Jim gasps]

I got it! Thank you!

- Let's go get that Sig!
- [William] Hmph.

[Rachel] Mmm!

[Jim grunts]

[gasps]

- [William] Those fools.
- Uh...

So quick to k*ll
what they can't understand.

They'll wipe out an entire species

before even attempting to learn
a single thing about them.

But none of them will
listen to a word I say.

You idiots!
I'm the foremost authority on the Swarm!

Who knows what we could learn from this
long dormant species?

Think of the data! The wisdom!

This is what happens when
you prioritize profit over knowledge,

ignoring the bigger picture.

How can they be so blind?

[Rachel] Not so loud, Professor.
They'll lock you up again.

You think I don't know?

I'm powerless to overturn
Central's decision,

no matter how entirely foolish it may be.

Uh... please, don't get the wrong idea.

When we first discovered them.
we thought they were fossils.

We had no idea they were alive.

We never imagined they'd wake up
after tens of thousands of years.

They would have known, if they'd listened
to me. Why doesn't anyone understand me?

It's right in front of them.

It's clear as day
that Swarm's trying to communicate.

But they refuse to listen! Idiots!
Content to stay ignorant forever!

[wails]

What a waste of samples! [yells]

No! They're being blown to pieces!

The least you could do is cut them!
[sobbing]

- [Walter sighs]
- [William wails] No!

Cut them?

Oh... the Swarm are resistant
to all types of penetrating forces.

But we've found that they are weak
to direct pressure and laceration.

Of course!
That's why I could cut into its tentacle.

And why its insides came out
when we ran it over in the truck.

What? Have you had
a lot of experience with them?

I only just learned about them today.

Do you know any way to keep them back
that doesn't involve a storm of b*ll*ts?

- [William] No!
- [Walter] Come on.

They're incredible life forms! Why?

Oh, yeah, they're real incredible
when they're eating us. Now let's go.

[Jim] Hang tight, Marnie.
We'll be there soon.

[squelching sounds]

[Jim panting]

- [clattering]
- [gasps]

[glass smashing]

- [crashing]
- [Walter] Mmm.

- [crackling]
- [glass rattling]

[Jim] There's one in the kitchen.

[Walter] Probably the same one
that ate all this.

Man, don't these things ever get full?

Look at this.

These infantry suits
are way better than mine.

And now we just need Sig.

[Walter] If there was any Sig here,
that thing ate it all.

You want Sig, you're gonna
have to get it out of its stomach.

- [crackling]
- [Marnie gasps]

- [groaning]
- What's wrong? Are you okay?

[Marnie gasping]

Sorry. I'm okay. I shouldn't have...

[groans and gasps]

Don't strain yourself.
We'll be there soon.

[Marnie] But what about the map?

- [Jim] Take it easy, Marnie.
- She okay?

Yeah. She just needs to rest.
We'll have to manage without her.

[Walter] Right.
But now we're flying blind.

We need Casper to get us back.

But Casper needs Sig to operate,
and we need a map to find the Sig.

We're running out of time.

[Walter] Hey!
Where do you think you're going?

It's so close! One of the Swarm.

I... I have to see it.
Get myself a sample of it!

He's dedicated, I'll give him that.
Doesn't he know it's gonna attack him?

If I promise you'll get your sample,
will you help us?

You've got yourself a deal!

No chance!

To think I was beginning to believe
you were a reasonable person!

Under no circumstance
will I use my knowledge to k*ll the Swarm!

- I could make him do it, if you want.
- No, no.

Look, we're not gonna k*ll it.

We just need to keep it immobilized long
enough to gather Sig from the kitchen.

- Hmm.
- [Jim] Can you please help us do that?

That's not how it sounded before.

I'm sorry.
We only need to incapacitate it.

Otherwise, it won't let us
gather the Sig we need.

- [William] You swear you won't k*ll it?
- Yes.

And if you help us,
you can get your sample.

He makes a good case.

Swarms' weakness is pressure.

The slightest amount of pressure
to the side of their body

will cause their digestive organs
to be expelled.

Once they are,
these organs can be easily severed.

There's so much we don't know.

We can safely assume that the Swarms'
natural ecosystem

was free of the threat of severing.

But Coldfoot is a harsh environment,

and the threat of falling icicles
is present in those caves.

Hence they need the hard outer shell.

This shell also keeps in the concentration
of gas within the Swarm's body.

It's formed when
the Sig ore they eat is digested,

breaking down
into a thus far unclassfied gas.

I'll need a sample of that as well.

[Walter] You remembered all that
from one glance? Impressive.

And even your small minds must have
realized the Swarm survives by eating SIg,

using their sense of smell to track it.

[Jim] Yeah, it kind of has
a freezer burn smell, right?

[William] Correct! The chemical
in oxidized fatty acids and Sig ore

are extremely similar.

We've yet to confirm any visual organs.

That very well could be another discovery!
[laughing]

I need samples!
- Finished!

[William guffawing]

Oh!

[Jim] First, Walter and I will head
to the freezer and grab meat.

Professor, you and Miss Wise will wait
outside the freezer and keep watch.

Let us know if the Swarm starts to move.

[grunts]

The Swarm will smell the frozen meat
and get lured in, thinking it's Sig.

[crashing]

The kid's crazy.
But he certainly isn't foolish.

It smells, though!

Be quiet!

Okay, we're set. Let's move out. Stay low.

Now!

- [Swarm screeching]
- My sample...

[Jim grunting]

[yells]

Sample!

- [Swarm screeching]
- [William gasps]

[sobbing] Sample! Sample! Sample!

[grunting and yelling]

[groans]

[Walter] I met plenty of guys
like that in the joint.

[giggling]

[Rachel gasps]

Its system's gone into shock.
There's no way to know when it will wake.

Now's your chance.

[groaning]

- [static crackles]
- [Marnie] Jim!

Marnie. We're in the kitchen now.

We need to find the Sig,
then we'll head back.

[Marnie gasps]
Check the... third rack of the oven.

[whimpers] Also the refrigerator.

[gasps] And the fryers.

Thank you.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hey, don't say that!

I'm sorry you're alone.
It won't be long now.

Anyone ever tell you
you two make a cute couple?

Huh? We're just friends!

There's Sig in the fryer. There should
be more in the oven and the fridge.

Miss Wise, can you check it out?
We'll look around for more.

Sure.

Rise and shine, Casper!
Everyone's waiting for you!

[chimes]

[dynamic music]

[both in unison] Yes!

[William] Ha-ha! This is incredible!

I'm as quick as a gazelle!

I can see why you guys like
these exosuits so much!

- [laughs]
- Glad you're enjoying yourself.

But try not to forget
that suit you're running around in

makes you living bait for the Swarm.

We're heading to the south building!

Marnie and the doctor are waiting for us.

Casper, can you connect
to the command room?

[Jim] Can't catch a break.

Is it Marnie?

No. I was hoping to share what
we've learned with the deputy director.

He helped me get you out,
so I thought I'd return the favor.

[Walter] I see.

[Jim] Casper, let's try this up ahead.

What do you think you're doing?

They have to know slicing them
is the only thing that's effective.

Why did you do that?

I told you,
I won't let them be slaughtered!

I... I get what you're saying,

but those things are gonna take this
whole place down before we get out.

You're just like the rest of them.

Before we got here,
this place was originally their home.

Every proposal I made, they...

they ignored them all.

To make things worse, they had the nerve
to arrest me, and try to silence me!

- Professor, please...
- What? They arrested you too!

We don't owe these people anything.

They stole our research.

Look at them now! Just look where their
lust for money and power has led them!

And now,
the Swarm will consume all they built!

Let their destruction prove my hypothesis!

How can you be that blind?

All you seem to care about
is your revenge.

Uh... Rachel...

Well, this planet is my home!
I won't celebrate its end.

Look, I don't have any great love
for this place either.

My only debt is to him.

I feel like I'm with you all for
a reason that is bigger than all of us.

So that we can do something
to help everyone.

Right?

[sighs]

[Casper walks over]

[ringing tone]

I added everything I know as well.

[Jim] Thank you.

[man] Command here. Who's this?

James Mirror. I have an urgent message
for the Vice Warden. Hurry!

[Jim] Walter. Professor.
Look for anything that might be useful.

Casper, get me some drones
in the air for surveillance.

Miss Wise, I need you with Marnie.

[Rachel] Okay!

- Jim?
- [gasps]

- [sighs]
- [Jim] Doctor! You're awake!

You really came back for the rest of us.

I brought Casper to carry you.
Sorry it took so long.

[chuckles]

- [Walter] What do we need that for?
- [Dr. Hadson] You picked up some strays.

It's a real pleasure to meet you, Marnie.
I'm Rachel Wise.

Wait, where's Howard?

- [Jim] Uh... he ran off.
- Huh?

After you passed out, I asked him to help
us and take your place. But he said no.

[groans] What an idiot.

Well, it's not your fault.

Are you feeling any better?

Well, the pain is still there.

[groans] What time is it?
Tell me everything that's going on.

[Jim] There's a ready supply of fuel.

They started launching the first shuttles.

The front line is doing their best
to hold the Swarm at bay.

But, uh... they sent out an alert that
the last shuttles will launch at midnight,

whether or not we're on board yet.

I can probably pull it up for you.

Midnight? No! That's 30 minutes away!

- Right. So we need to hurry.
- [door opens]

- [Walter] Hey.
- [Robert] Ah!

- Huh?
- [Walter] Caught him lurking outside.

- [Dr. Hadson] Howard!
- [gasping]

[Walter] The hell
are you still doing here?

Uh, well, I...

[Walter] What, you forget something?

You know, other than taking Marnie and
the doc with you when you abandoned us?

- [whimpers]
- [Walter] Speak up!

Please don't hurt me.
I thought I could make it on the cruiser!

Cruiser? Don't you mean the shuttle?

[Robert] Doctor,
you have a platinum ticket, don't you?

- You have to take me with you!
- [Dr. Hadson] Howard!

[yelps]

[panting] See! Look!
It'll leave us behind.

You can save us!

[Walter] Hey!

- James Mirror.
- [static buzzing]

[Robert] Hm?

[gasps]

- [yelps]
- Hello? Can you hear me? Are you there?

Thanks to your intel, the search
and destroy operations are going well.

But the swarm is closing in.
All shuttles are launching now.

- Huh?
- Huh?

[all gasp]

What? What'd he say? Gimme!

- Let go!
- [whimpers] Don't leave me! Hang on!

[both yelling]

[gasps]

You b*stard!

[gasps] This isn't my fault.

It was Dr. Hadson's plan.
She thought up the whole thing.

She's the one who was using you
for her own gain!

- What are you saying?
- I can show you.

- She had this the whole time.
- [bleeping]

[Robert wails]

[Jim] Doctor? What the hell is this?

Oh no! Even on a shuttle, there was
no guarantee of making it on the tanker.

Gah! We would have been saved
if we'd made it on the cruiser!

Now a shuttle's our last hope.

Wait. There was a cruiser
for the high officials?

[Robert] This is the reality.
Those at the bottom wait for scraps,

while everyone at the top
gets first-class treatment.

Dr. Hadson had a spot on that cruiser.

She just needed you
to get her there. [wails]

- [Marnie] Doctor?
- [Jim] Is it true?

[Robert] You've seen it
with your own eyes.

[Jim] But, doctor...

I don't get it.

You... even protected Marnie.

So why?

It's all true.

[gasps]

And now you know.

There's no equality here.
It's every man for himself.

And what's so wrong about that?
You gotta take care of yourself.

[Jim] No. Everyone here worked together.

If you stop and think about it,
she's the only one who really helped out.

But that's not true.

Marnie and... Walter...

Doctor... Miss Wise...

Professor Boyd... We couldn't have made it
this far without everyone's help.

Everyone's help? Is that right?

By caring about everyone equally,
you ended up saving no one.

You can't save everyone, Jim.

[gasps]

This is the end of the road, Jim.

You really think there'll be
a spot for you on the shuttle?

[trembles]

[Bark] You'll have plenty of time
to think about it now.
