It's great. It feels
good to be back down here.
I can't remember,
been down here last.
For the very first time,
I am up against
northern boats and
also southern boats.
We're gonna take
shifts at the wheel.
It's gonna take us about
five hours to get out there.
My crew this year on the
dot-com is gonna be of course,
sandro and unfortunately
geordie cannot fish
in the wintertime.
So I'm gonna do what
I think is best and
the original dot-com is
gonna be back together.

The three of us have worked
together for years and paul
was a big reason we won that
first season up in gloucester.
Having paul on the boat
here will be a great asset.

I'm excited, we're
gonna make some money.
Dave: Hey, nobody
really knows we're here.
Nick: Daylight's
cracking here.
Good time to be in the ocean.
You remember what
you're doing?
Cliff: I seen it done once.
Nick: We're setting
the greenstick out.

We're too stupid to
do anything else.
I'm nick gowitzka and I'm the
captain of the little shell.
When I won three
years in a row,
I was a mate for greg mayer
on his boat, fishin' frenzy.
But I went out on my own.
I risked everything.
I became a captain and
I've done well since then,
but I have not won.
First trip of the season.
Everything's out.
We just need a bite now.
Somebody's gotta be first.
Both: Might as well be us.
Cliff: That's right.
Nick: Somebody's got
to be last too though.
Cliff: It could be us.
Nick: This season, the
government has allowed us a
quota of 49 metric tons and
we can only catch one fish
in a 24-hour period.
With the crew I have,
I'm not worried
about catching them,
but the tricky part is
gonna be finding the bluefin.
The fish are sparse.
There ain't very many.
It's early season, it's
kind of a trickle of fish.
We don't know where
they're feeding on bait.
It's kind of like finding
a rock in a sand dune.
Brandan: Ain't no way we're
gonna catch a fish today.
Nick: Why?
Brandan:
Because it ain't rough.
Nick: Frenzy went way up
the road about 15 miles
north of us and no
one's heard from him,
so he's probably hooked
a triple or something.
Typical fashion for him.
Dirty: Breakfast time.
Greg: We got chef
dirty down there.
We gotta eat.
He likes to cook.

I've been the top boat in
the wicked tuna outer banks
four different seasons.
That's the way

And I don't plan on
changing this year.
Somewhere up here there's
gonna be some fish.
That first fish is gonna
be worth some money.
Fishing in the outer banks
in the wintertime,
the weather is always
the biggest factor.
We're 50 miles out to ocean.
We get a lot of fronts
that will come through
without much notice.
It's no place for
anybody who really does not
have their head in the game.

And I'm really confident
with our ability to compete
with the rest of these guys.
Everyone's still in the
hunt for the first fish
of the season and there
ain't anything happening.

year to catch a fish and it'd
be really nice to start
it off again this year

on the outer banks.
We slept in like
shifts last night.
So, we're all tired.

So, that ain't that long.
We ain't been trolling
an hour and a half.
I feel confident I can

a bluefin and that's exactly
what we're gonna do today.
I'd prefer to
fish a lot calmer,
but what we need to do
is just be here every day
we can make it.
The only chance we got to win
is to catch one every day.
Billon: It's disappointing.
You know, you want to come
out here and catch what you're
looking for and go
home and get paid.
But it is what it is.

you know, just to
show we belong here.

I care about is being the
top boat down here.

We're fishing against

I feel really
confident this season
that I have what it takes
to outfish the locals.
I'm the best fisherman.
And I know that
the tuna gods don't
just hand it to you,
they make you work for it.

Dave: The biggest challenge
for my boat is the
outer banks bar.
It is by far the
most dangerous inlet
on the east coast.
No fish is worth anybody's
life on this boat.
I know every time my
boat leaves the dock,
there's a calculated risk.
This is all about
being that top boat.
Nick: Being a local is
definitely gonna help me to win.
I know what's going on.
Not only out there in
tuna fishing, but the inlet,
the tide, the bar,
where's the shallow spots.
I mean, everybody that's local
is giving me information and
that equals tuna in the end.
Tj: People have counted
the hot tuna out for so long,
but we won in
gloucester this year,
so there's no reason why we
can't get it done down
in the outer banks as well.
Zack: We might be young,
but fishing is our survival.
Woo!
It's gonna be pretty
incredible when we wind up the
top boat in this fleet.
Nick: This year I'm
gonna win as a captain.
Tyler: No one can outfish me.
Greg: I want to win.
