something on the ridge above me.

foot to be an intelligent creature.

I believe it's going to be
in the high ground.

that's where you want to be.

the camera most interested in.

I had tied it to that log.

Something grabbed it?

[Mireya]
I can't assume it was thrown.

But Chimps in the field

are known to mess with cameras.

Why don't we try
sending it to Bryce

and see if he can
extract anything from it?

to talk to a preacher.

He was hearing some crazy
sounds out of his backyard.

I'm really excited to get this
out to the team in the field.

And hopefully they can play it
over the loud speaker system

and get a response back.

something up there

one of these big trees.

[narrator] In a remote corner
of Southeastern Kentucky,

Primatologist Dr. Mireya Mayor

and researcher Ronny LeBlanc,

our hearing what they believe to
be the movements of large animals

from three distinct locations.

[Ronny] What is that?

It's over here now, I think.

[narrator]
On a cliff 400 feet above them

is survivalist Russell Acord,

who has also heard multiple sounds
coming from different locations.

That was
a really incredible sound.

I think one of them,
came from this direction.

[Mireya]
Let's keep moving this way.

[narrator]
Ronny and Mireya decide to

cautiously move
towards the sound

that they believe is closest.

[Mireya] There are certainly many more
powerful animals out here than we are.

We have to take
very slow, deliberate steps

beacuase we don't kno what's behind
the tree, just a couple of feet away.

[Ronny whispering]

[Mireya whispering]

[Mireya] Ronny, why did you run?

That was so dangerous.

[Ronny] It sounded like it was
right in front of me.

I had to chase it.

Wait, I recognize this.

[bleep]
I think we got turned around.

What?

[Ronny] We're back to
where we started.

I don't understand
how we ended up here.

It's crazy.

This is really a first for me.

I don't get lost easily.

I have drunk jungles
all over the world,

and I just... I don't get lost.

So many people talk about
getting twisted up,

knowing the terrain or the area,

and then they get lost,
they can't find their way back.

[Mireya] I don't know
what was out there.

I know that there was one,
in... From this direction.

One down there, one over there.

- Yeah.
- [Mireya] And suddenly

it was disorienting,
like we were surrounded,

and suddenly here we are.

I feel like they start
just driving us,

making sounds so that we would
come this way, then go around.

They just pushed us
right back in a circle.

It's like they can mess
with your head.

They're here.

They wanted us out.

And they did a great job of pushing
us right back to that starting point.

I think the sounds have
completely stopped.

I think it would be great

if we could have you
play another sound

to see just if we get a response

if we're any closer to it.

[Mireya whispers]
I'm not hearing anything.

[dramatic music playing]

[Russell] It's been over
an hour and a half

since we've heard
our last vocalization.

It's gone completely silent.

We deployed the speaker system
with Bryce's recording

of a new alleged Bigfoot howl.

The hell that we played tonight,

had we not played that,

very ulikely we would've
heard a random howl.

It was responding
to our initial activity.

It was loud in volume, heavy,

and it lasted longer than

oour lcould have put out
that volume of the sound.

In all my years of research,
I have never heard anything

that sounded anything like that.

Turned off the recorder.

[narrator] While the team hasn't
located what was making the calls,

they are walking away with
valuable evidence from tonight's hunt.

Russell's parabolic microphone,

designed to amplify
even the faintest of sounds,

was recording the entire time.

[Russell]
I think one of those sounds

is coming from the ridge
right across from us.

I feel like I have a very, very
good pinpoint of where it came from.

That is my next target.

I hope that
I get the vocalization

as cleean as we heard it,
'cause that was impressive.

I'm gonna send this to Bryce
to see what's on it.

There's a lot of info
we can discover from what

what could be
a genuine sound like this,

from IDing the animal
to tracking its distance.

And who knows what other
findings we get from this recording.

What was that stunt
you pulled last night, man?

[Ronny wispering]

[Mireya] You think there's a big
foot there... [Ronny] Mmm-hmm.

I mean seriously, what...
What was that about?

Here's my reasoning.

This has been a passion
my whole life.

I've been looking for
this thing since I was a kid,

and at that moment I felt like
it was right over that ridge.

And I wanted to have that
face to face encounter.

So it was one of those moments
where I was just impulsive,

and just charged forward.

Yeah, but this is not like
an intuition... passion hunt.

This is a scientific expedition.

Tell me the story of when someone
has charged at a Sasquatch.

No one. That's why
I want to try new things.

I want to do different things.

I want that face to face
visual confirmation.

I understand.
But that is something that

if there had been
a really large animal, there

It could've not just injured
you, it could've injured me.

And that's where
I take an issue.

[Ronny] Okay.
I can get that, I get that.

Like we can't just
do it like that man.

If you had been on one of my
expeditions, you've have been gone.

I'm really sympathetic
to the fact that

Ronny has been waiting for
this moment his entire life.

But on a scientific expedition,

you cannot let your emotions
overrun you to the point

where you risk making
a scientific discovery.

It was just a stupid move.

We all want evidence out here,
but what I'm looking for

and I think
what you're looking for too

is objective evidence.

Something that we can take
to the scientific community

and really prove
that this exists.

- [Mireya] That's irrefutable.
- Right. You're right.

[Ronny] Mireya is
leading this expedition

from a scientific standpoint
and I'm learning from her.

But when it comes to big foot
and it comes to sasquatch,

there's things that I do
that are unorthodox.

I want to have
a class A sightiing,

something that I can show
to absolutely prove that

they are real.

Apologies, I'm sorry.

I get it, dude.
You were excited.

Wanted to see it.

[Bryce] So Russell just sent me the
sounds that he recorded last night.

I'm going to have
those analyzed,

but first, we're pretty
excited to check the SD card

to see if we can find out

what exactly moved
this trail cam.

[narrator] Two days ago,
Ronny and Mireya discovered

that a trail camera
they had placed

near a water source
had been tampered with.

Bryce has picked up the camera,

and will be getting his
first look at the images

to try and determine if they
reveal how the camera was moved.

You know, these things
are able to withstand

rainstorms
and harsh environments.

That should be fine.

All right, here we go.

Obviously, this is when
they set it up

and, uh, it's triggered
during the daytime.

It's staring right at the pond.

Let's see if
there's anything on here

that shows us how this camera
ended up in the water.

These spikes just look like
hair to me.

I mean, this just looks
like an animal

with either hair or fur

that was extremely close
to the camera.

What the hell?

All right, here we go.

[narrator] In a remote cabin deep in
the heart of Southeastern Kentucky,

researcher Bryce Johnson
is about to get his first look

at what caused a trail a camera
to fall in to a water source.

Obviously,
this is when they set it up,

and, uh, it's triggered
during the daytime.

It's staring right at the
pond, which is water source.

So it's a perfect place to
catch something getting a drink.

But then we go to night time...

Wow, it looks like something
is obstructing the lens,

and and I want to say
it looks like hair.

Whatever animal this is

it triggered this infrared light

and snapped a photo of something

very close to the camera.

And these spikes
looks like hair to me.

Now, looking at this next photo,

I mean,
I could see movement here.

Something's moved the camera,

which is why this seems to be
bleeding and obscured

Boom, now we're inside the pond.

This is s hot of the rocks
at the bottom of the pond.

It's the strangest thing

to see our surveillance
devices relocated by something.

I guess it could have been
a bear toying with this

and then moving with it
over to the pond.

But why would a bear
tear a camera from a log?

There does seem to be a story.

You have to imagine that

the camera's gonna be
triggered and captured

whatever or whoever
the culprit is.

But it's not the first time

we've come across something
that confounds us,

and leaves us with more
questions than when we started.

Hey, Bryce.

[Bryce] Hey. So I was able
to pull those images

of the trail camera that
you guys found in the pond.

Whatever moved this trail camera
tells a story of this thing being

possibly toyed with, or maybe
even thrown into the pond.

While I can't be certain,
it looks like it has hair.

[Mireya]
Wow Bryce, that's crazy.

As a scientist, I naturally
adhere to Occams's razor.

It's the principle that the simplest
answer is usually the correct one.

I assume the log merely
slipped into the water

to hear that
that is not the case...

is really perplexing to me.

Well, that was in the same area

where something
sprinted right past me.

Holy [bleep].

Just heard something
really big running past me.

You guys are obviously very
close to what we're looking for.

So just stay on track and,
uh, keep your eyes peeled.

[Ronny] I dismiss that this was

any other animal, but a Bigfoot.

What else aside from
a human being,

is going to be throwing
a trail camp in the water?

Well, that's wild.

- [Ronny] That is crazy.
- Yeah.

[Mireya sighs]

[Russell] I just need to get to
the top of the next ridge line.

Last night's audio was amazing.

We got different sounds
throughout the Valley

and from different areas.

One actually stood out
in my mind.

There was no echo
involved in it.

It sounded like a sound
directed towards me.

I feel like
I have a very, very good

pinpoint of where it came from.

And that's the ridge
directly opposite of me.

That is my next target.

[narrator] Russell's plan
is to ascend the mountain,

where he believes the possible

Bigfoot vocalization originated.

But the trek
will not be an easy one.

[Russell] There's really no
easy way up this ridge

without taking valuable time
away from this expedition.

The only way to get to that point is
a straight up the side of this ridge.

You do have the dangers,
but at the same time

we're going to go
where the evidence takes us.

[Mireya] All right, let's
head back down this trail.

[Ronny] Okay.

So the call blast that we
had sent out last night

was a real sasquatch call
from the very close to this area.

And we got a response.

Sounded like
there was possibly up to

to three different animals
that were around us.

There was a ton of activity,

but we had
no visibility last night.

So the idea this morning,
the game plan is to go out,

scour this whole area
and see if we can find

any type of tracks
hair, tree breaks,

any indication that will
confirm that they were here.

And I firmly believe that we were
visited last night by several of them.

[Mireya]
This is about where we were.

Vocalization here.

We had a... Sounds, what souded
like footsteps and tree breaks up in here.

- And then some more down hrere.
- [Mireya] Yup.

There's so much
area here to cover,

I feel like I wanna go this way.

- Okay. I'll go this way.
- All right.

[Ronny] Okay.

[Mireya] Even though it was
so dark last night,

I specifically remember
walking down,

uh, this riverbed
that has dried up,

so I know that I'm looking
in the right area.

If there were, in fact,
three big creatures

surrounding us last night,
and it is a primate.

Most of the time these animals

live in highly social groups.

And group living animals
use communication as a way

of letting each other know
whether there's a predator.

But in the cas of Chimpanzees...

Chimpanzees are
the only primate species

that will have organized,
coordinated hunts.

If we were dealing with
three individuals out here,

it's impossible to say

what they were trying
to communicate to each other.

[Ronny] I'm looking for
something that's above ground.

That's eye sight.

That would be
kind of like road signs

for other sasquatch.

Something that just
looks like it's interwoven

and something had to have
kind of put it together.

I'm looking for
those type of structures.

So this is still rooted in.

It just fell down.

If this was pulled out and
broken off and placed here,

I'd look at this a little bit
more closely, but...

same with this.

You can see all the rot.

I'm having no luck up here.

You find anything?

The only thing I found
on there were out prints.

This is all I've found so far.

But other than that, I'm
not coming up with anything.

It's really frustrating,

given all the activity
we heard out here last night.

There's no physical evidence.

But last night, when we were
hearing the holler in the low lands,

Russell was set up up top
on the ridge line.

And so he was recording

all the sounds
that we were hearing.

Hopefully, he got
a good enough recording,

that he consent that to Bryce,

and we'll be able
to analyze that.

[Russell] Let's do it.
Let's just get up there.

[narrator] Half way to the top
of he ridge line,

Russell is encountering
treacherous terrain,

which is starting to
slow his ascent.

[Russell] Can you make it up on
that rock and on that stump right there?

[Russell] Okay.

[Russell] Yeah.

[Russell] Okay.

[Russell] Ready for it?

[Russell] This is a steep one.

Are you good to do this climb?

[Russell] All right.

The incline is
particularly steep.

It looks treacherous, but
this is where we have to go.

[Cameraman groans]

[Russell] Hang on. Hang on.

[Camerama] Oh, God.

[Cameraman groans]

[Cameraman] Oh, God.

[Russell] Hang on, hang on.
We just lost cameraman Zack.

Oh, [bleep].

[Cameramn panting]

[Russell] I think we need to
get you assessed

before we go
too much further here.

[groans]

He took a pretty bad hit
on these rocks.

He can't put any weight
on his left leg right now.

[Russell] All right, hold on.

We're going to help
get you out of here.

[Russell] He's going to help
get the camera guy out of here.

That's one badass cameraman
hit the ground.

That's heartbreaking
right there.

Sadly, he messed up his thumb,
and shoulder, his, uh, knee.

[grunts in pain]

Going to get some
medical attention.

I'm sure they'll want to x-ray
it or MRI and it turns alright.

[man] This terrain is no joke.
People get hurt.

[Mireya] Check it out.
It looks like an old road.

There's all these gas lines
all around here.

This must be
an active mining area.

But the great thing is that
it creates these inroads

that the animals
can likely use as game trails.

[narrator] Below the hollow, where
the team heard the mysterious sounds,

they've discovered a mining road

that runs east to west
through their target zone.

[Mireya] This road runs right
below where we heard those sounds

and the animals
use these roads as well.

So it's a great opportunity
for us

as we trek, trying to find
that next holler

to see what is in and
around this area.

[Ronny] This could be a great
place for us to try to get some tracks.

There's some here.

- Uh, what you got?
- There we go.

You've got some
deer tracks there.

And then, over here...

There's a bobcat print there.

The surface area is much closer
to the toes than with the coyotes.

So you've got bobcat there
and deer prints right there.

[Ronny] Deer is a
big food source for sasquatch

so that's a great thing to see.

This is the kind of thing
we should be looking for.

Follow the animals, like which
way are the animals headed.

- All right.
- Yeah, let's keep looking.

So I'm on my way to talk to a lady
who grew up in this area her entire life.

And she came across footprints
just last year,

and she managed to take
some photos of them.

But she was a little hesitant
to talk about over the phone.

So I'm gonna go talk with her,
see what she has to say

and see how it could
help our investigation.

- Hey.

- You want to take a seat?
- Yeah, I would love to.

So, Jenny, you told me you experienced
some strange things in this area.

Would you be willing to
tell me a little bit about that?

What are you feeling?

A little hesitation.

Um, a flood of emotion,
bringing back things.

My best friend, growing up, used to
live right up on the edge of the mountain.

And we had some pretty
interesting experiences as kids

that really throws for a loop
growing up.

We got chased out of
the woods once.

So you said you got chased out
of the woods by something?

We had decided to go on
a little hike up the woods

and her older sisters were
in front of us.

So there was four of you?

- Exactly.
- Okay.

I'll never forget it
for the rest of my life.

I look over and her sister
has this look on her face.

Just frozen with fear.

And there's something
tall and black

standing just off from a tree.

Could it have been a bear?

No.

How tall was this thing?

Tall. I had to look up
to look at it.

And it was big.

It was at least seven feet.

I remember the sound of it
coming after us.

It's because it actually turned and
looked at us and opened it's mouth.

The teeth on that thing
was unreal.

That's the point where we just ran
for our lives as that thing came after us.

[Ronny] So it chased you?

It chased us out of the mountain

and waited to stop until
we were inside the house.

What about the face?

- You said you could see teeth?
- I could see teeth but that was it.

There was a silhouette,
and it was dark and black-ish.

I don't even like to
really talk about it,

because the terror that we
felt that day is stuck with us.

[Bryce] The amount of emotion
it brought back in her,

having her think about that
thing that she encountered

when she was just a little girl.

You know, there's sort of
a lot of anomalous experiences

that people have been
telling me about,

and perhaps
this leads to a story of

something stranger
going on in these woods.

What do you think
is going on up there?

You think it's more
primate in nature or?

I think it's a type of ape.

You know, once or twice a
year, me and my boyfriend,

we try to go up and
inspect some trails

- to make sure they're still passable.
- Mmm.

Two and a half miles
into the trek,

There's a print.
Plain as day in the mud.

And I said, "Tony, come here."

"Are you seeing
what I'm seeing?"

Oh wow,

Two and a half miles
into the trek,

there's a print,
plain as day in the mud.

And I said, "Tony, come here."

"Are you seeing
what I'm seeing?"

- Yeah.
- So, that's my foot.

And it keeps going forward.

And this isn't a human.

This is an animal,
and I'm like, "This is huge."

- In the end...
- This one to me is the big toe

and I mean something
made an impression there.

And the stride on this,

whatever this was,
was pretty big.

- It extends 5 feet out from the other one.
- Wow.

And when we really got to
look at it.

It looked like there was another
footprint inside of that footprint.

- A smaller footprint inside one of the bigger one?
- Yes.

And if you look really close
right through here,

maybe there was something
stepping in the side of the tracks.

Yeah.

You ever notice, deer, the
fawns stay really close to Mom?

And I was like, "Could this be
baby that is following their mother?"

I think we often misinterpret that there's
only one of these creatures in the woods.

But you know, a lot of the times
people report them as family units,

and that means younger ones.

You know, our team recently encountered
multiple howls from different locations.

Is it possible we're tracking
a family unit out there?

It makes you wonder,
with all the caves

and outcroppings,
who knows what's in here?

You really have to wonder if,
with all this land that's undeveloped,

there could be species of ape
around here easily.

- That could thrive.
- Mmm.

And probably never be seen.

I brought a map. Do you think you
might be able to point out near the area

- where you had some of these experiences?
- Sure.

You're probably gonna want to
look in this area right through here.

It's a little alcove
down in here.

I think all evidence is leading to
this area around Pine Mountain,

NARRATOR: which surrounds
about half of our target zone.

And after hearing Jenny's stories
about the things that she experienced,

I'd love to go up there
and check out the area myself.

I want to know if I can
get more information

as to what
she was talking about.

Let me ask you this,
do you think that creature

that you saw when you were
young is still in these woods today?

Yeah.

My camera guy, Zach,
took a pretty good spill

on this rock here behind me.

He was trying to
climb up this rock.

He's got a camera in his hands
trying to stay with what I'm doing.

He got hurt pretty good,
messed up his knee.

So we got him some medical
attention and see what happens with him.

He actually got on top,
lost his footing, slid,

and he fell all the way down
this rock.

That's a long ways down.

Not a good place to fall.

I have to be a lot more careful.

[narrator] Without a camera man,

Russell will film himself as he climbs
the nearly three thousand foot peak

to where he believes
he heard the howl originate.

[Russell] Uh, period,
the terrain isn't easy.

It's steep.

The rocks are slick.

I've lost my camera guy, so I'm
gonna have to proceed with caution.

Move a lot slower...

[rustling]

The heck is that?

Something big on that ridge
just above me.

So I just heard what sounded like a
bull, running down the hill towards me.

It was, um, I don't know,

maybe three hundred feet
above me.

[whispering] I'm going to get
up inside and see what I can find.

I've got some kind of
treacherous stuff to get through.

I better shut off the camera for
a second. Talk to you over there.

No sense in taking a chance.

I'm right up in that area
where I heard that sound.

I'm not seeing anything,
but it was close.

It can't be that far away.
I'm going to keep going.

Oh, wow.

Check out this cave.

I've always suspected caves
as being the habitat for Bigfoot,

and it's in the direction
I heard the sound coming from.

I'm gonna take a look.

Let's see what we've got.

It is possible
this could be a bear den.

Either way, I have to be
extremely careful.

It's never safe to
corner an animal.

Well, there's nothing in there.

That opening does look
small and shallow,

but a large animal
could have got inside there.

Other small entrances in the area
have actually led to a giant caverns.

But whatever that sound was,
it's gone now.

It's getting late.

So if I don't get a tent up, I might
be trying to put it up in the dark.

Gonna go ahead and
get away from this cave here

and find a better spot to camp.

Bryce is near the top of Pine
Mountain Ridge at the location

given to him by
a local eyewitness.

[Bryce] So I'm up here,

righ where the spot that
Jenny pointed to on the map.

The same place where she told me

she had that horrifying
encounter when she was a little girl.

I'm near the place
where she found those tracks.

So creepy.

There's a fence here.

There's kind of
an opening up here too.

Wow...

I wonder why this is
fenced in like that.

What is this?

Looks like a really old
grave marker.

It's weird because I'm literally
in the middle of nowhere.

And, uh, I'm not
one hundred percent positive

that's what this is, but it
certainly sort of looks that way.

This could be so old.

There are some people
who believe Bigfoot

shows up around graveyards
and places with a dark past.

It reminds me of last year when
Ronny and Mireya came across

that hidden cemetery deep
within the forest of Oregon.

[Mireya] Cemetery?

[Ronny] Cemetery in
the middle of nowhere.

[Mireya] What the hell
happened out here?

All I know is I don't want to
spend too much more time here

walking over these graves, if
that's what they are, so let's go.

[narrator] This place is
just teeming with bugs

and life and old abandoned
mine roads.

[Bryce] That really sounded
like a woman screaming.

[Bryce] All I know is I don't want

edge of their target zone,

Bryce is investigating
the area where

a local witness encountered,
what she believes was a Bigfoot.

[Bryce] I mean,
this place is just teeming

with bugs and life
and old abandoned mine roads.

[faint screaming]

It sounded like a woman
screaming but almost animalistic.

That could be anything, right?

But, this is right around
where it should be.

As scary as this is, I just...

I want to see what made
that screaming sound,

- so I'm just trying...
- [twig snaps]

That was close.

A big branch broke about
fifty feet that way.

- [clicking]
- My light just went out.

Holy [bleep]. Hold on.

My tactical light
just completely went out.

I don't know.

It didn't dim out or anything.

It just completely died.

Uh, I don't have
any explanation for it,

but I'm out of a light
right now,

in the complete dark.

So I'm gonna have to use my
handy cam as sort of the only light.

I'm just gonna have to
hopefully use this camera

as a light source,
which is not much.

[Mireya] There's
a load of tracks over here.

-[Ronny] Yeah -[Mireya] Deer.

So there's definitely animals
using these highways.

[narrator] Ronny and Mireya
are investigating

the mining roads that lead
east from the location

they heard mysterious howls.

[Ronny] Oh, look at this.

Cat tails.

I mean, I know that.

So many Bigfoot sightings seemed
to take place close to swampy areas.

Who has has been
sightings of them,

like looking under rocks
for different food sources.

So frogs, tadpoles.

So, what is it
about the cattails?

They're reported to eat those?

Yeah, so they seem to be
another food source

that the people have
seen them chewing on

or found evidence that they
were eating them or taking them.

[Mireya] Generally, when I've been
in the field and looking for an animal

that eats bamboo, they'll
start eating the stock,

- and then they cast aside what they don't finish.
- Yeah.

Why don't we check out this
area and see if we can find

any evidence that
it has been eaten recently?

- Sure. Yeah.
- Or that something has gone in here to eat it.

initially, I thought

it might have been made
by one of our shoes.

But look at how smooth this is.

or anything.

defined arch

and a hell indentation.

Whatever it is, something large
has been coming through here.

a massive footprint.

So Mireya just spotted
this Interesting...

Looks like a track. Looks like
a heel. You want to point it out?

And then what looked like
five indentations here.

[Ronny] Right.

[Mireya] And some sort
of an art shape here.

[Ronny] She was thinking
initially it's a boot.

But we don't see any tread.

- All smooth here.
- Yeah.

And guess
what's right over here.

Right near where this track
was found

was a huge amount of cattails,

which we know is a potential
food source for Sasquatch.

Definitely looks like
the Earth is dried here.

Any way we can tell
how old the print is?

[Mireya] It hasn't rained
in the last few days.

- I suspect this area would be washed away with the rain.
- [Ronny] Right.

[Mireya] So I would say
it's relatively fresh trucks.

There's been a truck through
here, so if there was a second track,

it's incredibly likely that
it got run over by the tire.

[Ronny] It's still a great find.

[Mireya] We'll collect
dirt from this area

on the right side of the print.

One of the things that we
can do to rule out what it isn't

is to take a dirt sample
and conduct an eDNA study.

If anything that stepped through
this area, it's environmental DNA.

[narrator] Environmental DNA
is the genetic information,

an organism naturally expels.

Analyzing this trace evidence
is a revolutionary new technique

which allows researchers to
sequence the DNA of a species

long after its departure
from the site.

Right now, this is the best piece of
evidence we have while we're out here.

So we need to investigate it
as thoroughly as possible.

I want to look at almost a screen
shot of what is coming through here,

whether that's bear,
deer or anything else.

Right now, I see toe prints.

Uh, to find arch
and a heel indentation.

But without properly
casting this, I cannot say

that it's out of the realm
of human possibility.

This will tell us exactly
what made this footprint.

We are going to cover up the
print in case it rains overnight

so that we can come back
tomorrow morning and scan it.

We're getting a step closer to getting
the answers to what we're looking for.
