Couldn't do it without him.

Alright, well, I gotta
go check on the boys.

Alright.

We got a couple issues
on the barge still.

Call me with the ounce count.
Get some gold!

See you later.

I do all the cleanouts,
and once I get it cleaned out,

And it's gold,
I'm accountable for it.

Now I'll melt that [bleep]

My brother brought me in
so I can be successful,

So I can have a future.

If I can help him succeed,
that's part of my success also.

Okay, gentlemen.

There's one ounce.

Two.

Three.

We gotta pour this
onto something.

Man: 25.64.

I wish it was more.

Narrator: 25.6 ounces
is worth over $33,000.

A great haul for
an 8-inch suction dredge,

But well short of the

Of the largest excavator
barge in nome's history.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Ken: hello?

Hey.

Better be
some damn good news.

Yeah.

You get 26 ounces of gold,

You're not gonna make any money.

Kind of a little disappointed.

We just need to get to work.

Narrator: across town...

Emily: I think we're in
for a fun cleanup.

Narrator: ...at emily riedel's
cleanup shack...

I'm thinking 15.7.

...after a busted air actuator

Ended her first dive
shift of the day,

A repair at sea
allowed emily to stay

On the water for
another five hours.

I'm gonna say 17.

Oh, you're higher
than daryl and me.

But with a new
diver on the books,

She needs at least 15
ounces to cover costs.

No, rick is right!

Worth over $22,000.

Is really great,

But we could have
definitely had more hours,

And thus more ounces.

Narrator: enough to cover her
increased operating costs

And reaffirm the captain's
strategy to mine deep.

We're in good shape here.

One mile north
at the pomrenke compound.

Shawn: it's time to start
cleaning some havilahgold.

Narrator: mr. Gold,
shawn pomrenke,

Is about to find out

If his battle at the bluff
was worth the effort...

...and if the crowded grounds
are going to yield enough

Of the precious metal
to further his goal

Of starting construction on
the mega dredge this season.

We'll clean gold and get
ready for another run.

Narrator: here on dry land,
mr. Gold goes by another name.

-Hi, luke.
-Ooh!

Shawn: you come to help dad
clean gold?

Narrator:
dad. To 7-year-old son luke.

Need some water.

Shawn:
luke wants to be a gold miner.

Reason I work so hard
is for my family.

You shake it, and you do
this, and then you go...

Okay.

At lease he's got a little
bit of the gold fever,

That's kind of nice to see.

It'd be nice to pass the
pomrenke legacy on to my kids.

We'll see how we did.

That's it.

Damn near 52 ounces.

Narrator: 52 ounces
is worth over $67,000,

An impressive bounty.

Now it's time to
go get some more.

And a reassuring sign
that the crowded bluff

Still hides undiscovered gold.

Guarantee you,
it's a hell of a lot more

Than the [bleep]
kellys got.

[ Laughing ]

As the competition
on the bering sea

Ratchets up, captain ken kerr
and the mighty myrtle irene

Breach the board.

Kris:
we're making a lot more gold.

We're starting to get
followed around more.

He's working like three
[bleep] feet from me.

You're right
on top of 'em.

Be careful 'cause everyone's
stealing from you.

-Hey.
-Get off my marker.

Shawn: those idiots that think
that it's the wild west,

Pisses you off.

I'm gonna [bleep]
run 'em over.

Might be a little
wet under the ears,

But I'm not a rookie anymore.

It's time to find my gold.

-There's gold everywhere.
-Hell yeah, dude.

-[Bleep] you.
-[ Laughing ]

-[ Laughs ]
-i see gold.
